Kin Dee - Tom Yum - Thai Near Me - Houston, Texas

I've been to this place 3 separate times now. I really want to love it--the place is pretty, owned by a woman, and local. However, I do have to agree with the other reviewers that overall, this place is just ok. I've had the appetizer sampler (some items yummy, others meh) but it's the poor sauce textures and amount that got me. Peanut sauce should be slightly thick, not runny like water. The taste was off too--not powerful but watered down. I'd love to have the sweet sauce thicker too. Again, watery she almost like fish sauce. The pad Thai is ok. I've had better, I've had worse. Crab fried rice is pretty good but it's nothing fancy. Overall, it's the high price point for just OK flavors/food that don't have me frequenting it more. read more

We ordered takeout during lunch on a weekday. There are a number of Thai spots around the city, but many are quite westernized in their execution which I never cared for. I was however, thoroughly surprised by Kin Dee. We ordered the: papaya salad, chicken wings, moo ping, spicy pork noodle soup, tom yum, and sticky rice. I will say everything tasted authentic, but I prefer my Papaya salad to be stronger in flavor. Some places do it more Lao style, but this is a lighter version (nothing wrong with that!) Their Tom yum is one of the best versions in Houston I've had. My boyfriend has never had authentic Tom yum so he never understood why I always wanted to order it. This place singlehandedly made him understand! The chicken wings are done well and are paired with a tamarind sauce I believe. We will definitely be back and this is 100% a go to spot in Houston for quality, authentic, Thai food. read more

One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to in a while! The Panang and green curries are really good and so is the pad Thai! Portions are fairly small for the price point, but it's kind of nice because you don't eat too much. read more

One of my favorites for Thai food in town. My favorite dish is actually their desert. Their mango sticky rice is unique!

Here is my verdict. The food is great. The Dumpling is beautiful, you can tell it take skills to make them. Time was put into getting them to look elegant as they are. I enjoyed trying them. The shrimp in a blanket was indeed crispy and similar to biting into a eggroll. Shrimp was still moist and not over cooked inside. The Boat noodles had the authentic taste to what I feel like boat noodle would taste like, had added chili flakes for added kick. Lastly the coconut ice cream, very refreshing, I ate it with all topping except the corn. I like corn, but not with my ice cream. So overall a 5 star restaurant for sure. They also have a bar area for those that need some help with smoothing out the day. Met the owner and staff there at kin dee houston, all nice and professional individuals. Will be back with family and friends. read more

What can I say??? Amazing! The staff and the food very good! I tried the glass noodles and it's going to be hard to not order this dish every time!! I tried the signature (purple) tea, for my liking it was too sweet maybe more lime juice would have made it perfect for me.... The food here is definitely a good experience. read more

The first time I went was for my birthday back in September. My husband made a reservation and we had the best time, attention, service, live music and the food was delicious. The manager, can't remember her name, went above and beyond. Now, we went last month (November) and I feel like the management has changed. Didn't get the same service, they weren't as attentive and the singer that day was absolutely loud, off-key, and rude. We still love it but I just wish the customer service was always 100! Side note, the purple dumplings and their Thai iced tea are amazing! read more

The atmosphere is amazing super cute perfect for a girls brunch, brunch with your significant other or even if you just want to go by yourself and just enjoy the scenery. Food is also outstanding unfortunately I'm not able to drink currently however, I did see drinks that were being made and they looked super delicious and good can't wait to be able to go back and have a drink. read more

I've wanted to try Kin Dee since their much anticipated opening. I've been reading and watching all of the national media attention this little gem is receiving. I ordered take out, but after seeing how cool this place is, I'll definitely be dining in next time. I got chicken basil and chicken pad Thai. The thing that stood out immediately is just how fresh everything tasted. The spices smelled and tasted like I've never experienced in Houston. It felt like a gourmet culinary experience from an exotic land. I'd say there is much more fresh spice, unbridled flavor and refined texture than other Thai restaurants. Kin Dee will put Houston on the Thai cuisine culinary map! But, I really can't compare this place to anything else in Houston. Prices are very competitive with other Thai restaurants, but Kin Dee is an unmatched culinary delight, served in a really aesthetically pleasing dining space. As I was leaving, I understood they will be having a DJ, which can only add to the cool hipness of this place. Next time I'll definitely be dining in and getting the sticky rice!! read more

Maybe I ordered the wrong things on the menu... Papaya Salad- lacking flavor-3 Grilled pork belly skewers- not soft enough 3.5 Tum yum- need more flavor, had to ask for fish sauce for some flavor -3 Premium Tiger cry- ok 3.5 Glass noodle salad- ok 3. Nice place, clean, classy Good services If you're looking for an authentic Thai flavored food. This is not the place to go. But it's a good start for people that wants to try Thai Food. Cause authentic Thai food = bold flavor and spicy. read more

Purchased a $150 gift card online to be sent as a birthday gift. Never received. They don't answer their phone and they don't return emails. Buyer beware! We all have our favorite restaurants for a variety of reasons, great food, amazing cocktails, wonderful staff or just a vibrant atmosphere. I found Kin Dee on Instagram and was attracted by the creative colorful food but Thai restaurants are not my favorite but I decided to try them out. Wow! All four of my reasons to go to a restaurant were covered. I now go weekly which is a huge compliment when we have so many amazing restaurants in Houston. Kudos to the two owners for building a winning combination. read more

You are going to have to get better to survive in Houston. Four of us arrived for an early dinner at 5:30. Only 1 large table occupied. We were told that without reservations could not be seated. Why? We asked to be seated outside as even with road noise we could visit better than with noise inside from very loud TV. We were disappointed that they did not have several of featured appetizers. The skewers and other appetizers that we got came in groups of 3. Most places serve in groups of 2 or 4 so that you can share. To us this was an obvious effort to make one order more. All of the food was very ordinary- as was the service. We eat out a lot- won't be back here to many great places in Houston. read more

This is my favorite Thai place in Houston. I went in and told myself to take pictures of all the food, but I realized after I was mostly done that I forgot to take pictures. It was the most authentic tasting I've had since visiting Thailand! We got the money bells, northern curry, pad Thai, fried rice and the sticky rice. They were all so delicious. Sunny was very attentive and eager to please. 10/10 would recommend to everyone! read more

This place is so great! I love it so much the desserts are the best especially the mango sticky rice with ice cream the rice is warm and the ice cream is really cold so it is a really nice tempature difference! Especially whenever you eat it with the mango it's sometimes citrusy or really sweet!! read more

Came here with friends for HRW menu to try out boat noodle and crab fried rice. To our disappointment, the crab fried rice was not available today. The boat noodle soup has a very good authentic broth taste. However, I was disappointed with the service. The server gave us the wrong type of noodle for the boat noodle. Instead of requesting to change it, I told the manager to pack as to go and separate the soup and the noodle. I did not realized that the server totally did not separate the noodle and soup but boxed up 2 containers. My to go boat noodle turned out to be very soggy. The sticky mango rice was the best dessert! It has the right texture and flavor. Overall- food is 3.5 star but service is 2 star. read more

What really makes Kin Dee is the ambiance and service! They clearly put a lot of thoughtfulness and effort into presentation, decor, and theme, including all of the tiny details like how napkins are folded, cutlery, and dishware. Our server, Ebenezer, was also the bartender and is SO GOOD at his job! His balance of humor and attention was never overbearing. A manager stopped at our table and she was friendly and easy to feel connected to. Again, her presence never felt unwelcome! There was also a live singer who just put it all over the top! Their drink menu is FANTASTIC and full of so many unique flavors and ideas! We tried the Mango Sticky Rice and Mango Mai Thai and both were excellent. Food presentation is beautiful. While not the best Thai food I've ever had, it was still delicious and portions were plentiful. We had the mango sticky rice for dessert, and again, not the best ever, but still fantastic, and absolutely stunning presentation! Also, they were definitely following Covid safety protocols! read more

Was very excited to try out a new Thai place especially after reading the reviews. We ordered delivery, Kin Dee Dumpling Soup, Grilled Pork Skewers, and Panang Curry Chicken. Everything was bland and overpriced for the portions and quality. Plus they did not accommodate our request for spicy and to add green beans as ordered. Chain restaurants like Thai Spice have much better tasting food (though they are far from my favorite Thai restaurant). So disappointed. :-( read more

Finally took the time to stop by and try out this restaurant, super happy that we did! I'm always searching for places that serve delicious pad Thai and honestly- Kin Dee did not disappoint.....not only was my Pad Thai delicious, but the portion size was wonderful and it came out oh so fresh! I ordered the chicken and shrimp combo for my Pad Thai and my favorite part had to be the egg that it was wrapped in, what can I say- I'm obsessed with protein! My boyfriend enjoyed the Panang Curry with chicken and shrimp for himself! For the appetizer we had the Money Bags, never had these anywhere else- will be coming back for these again, AND we tried the Moo Ping which are Thai Street style grilled pork belly skewers- I will also be ordering this the next time I visit- IT WAS DELISH! The drinks were great and we did catch happy hour specials on a Friday-BONUS! The live music also started around 8pm and that only made this nice experience even better! Ambiance is wonderful, plates, decor, utensils all seem chosen with great care, VERY nice spot for catching up with friends or visit on a date , service was impeccable, parking lot availability was easy for us....and it's a WOMEN owned business- I AM SO PROUD OF THESE LADIES! I look forward to returning to Kin Dee, check it out y'all! read more
