My boyfriend and I went to Sushi by the Heights for our Valentines dinner last night, and it was such a great experience. The ambience is really cool -- stylish decor, great lighting, and a fun but relaxed vibe. We loved the atmosphere. The sushi was very good, and there were several dishes we truly enjoyed. It was honestly hard to narrow it down to just one favorite. To top it off, we tried the fried Japanese donuts and the crème brûlée cheesecake and wow, the cheesecake was absolutely amazing. Between the quality of the food, the beautiful space, and the overall experience, we'll definitely be back. Highly recommend for a date night or a nice evening out.

I have been here a few times and typically all the food is timely and tasty. I tend to go for happy hour, I love the variety of option on theirs. Their maki and sashimi are so tasty and my husband loves the gyoza. The robata are a good grilled option as well. I recently tried the oysters, but for some reason there was a major holdup on getting them, so likely will not be getting those again. Our servers have been great and its a nice place without too loud of music (a dislike of mine since I am often out for quality time with friends and family). There is a lot of parking around the side and additional lot.

Yakuza roll - crispy spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber topped salmon, spicy mayo, tempura flakes

I've often passed by this restaurant going home from work or ate at nearby restaurants, but one night, my friend and I decided to try it for happy hour. The restaurant was empty, so we were seated right away. The ambiance is dark and intimate, and the decor from the artwork and brick wall is lovely but also adds to the dark space. We ordered a few things from the happy hour menu and outside of that. Asparagus - Grilled; simple, straightforward Pork belly - Nicely grilled with the marks. Full of flavor and tender Ribeye - This was cut in strips, so it tasted a little more tough. If it was a whole piece, and we were asked how we wanted it prepared, it would've been better. Seaweed salad - Fresh, traditional flavor Fried rice - It was ok. They packed a lot in the bowl due to the sticky rice texture. Too peppery and overpowered the whole bowl. Vegetable tempura - I liked the variety of veggies and light, crispy batter. Always a fan of veggie tempura. Soft shell crab - Actually never had this before. I don't eat a lot of variety when it comes to seafood, but I do like crab. This crab was breaded nicely and had great flavor. Pleasantly surprised. The Ritz - The salmon and avocado are placed on a Ritz cracker. Interesting take. A little too fishy for me despite the avocado. Maybe if they drizzled some eel sauce or something. Felt like it was missing something. Only comes in 4 pieces. Yakuza roll - Part of the special maki menu. It has crispy spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber topped salmon, spicy mayo, tempura flakes. I tried a couple pieces. Not bad but the flakes get everywhere. Restrooms are clean and even come with some toiletry items and mouthwash. Pretty unique. There's ample parking in the lot nearby. Great place for happy hour or dinner with friends or a date night. Check them out!

My boyfriend and I came for HRW and we absolutely loved it. We definitely want to come back to try their regular menu. The crowd on a Friday night was very mixed in terms of vibes, but all very lively! There were some people more casual, some more on lively celebratory vibe, others on a date night, which I loved that there was a mix of. Our server was amazing and she gave great drink recommendations and was super sweet. Food and drinks were super good- they do not hold back on the drinks! The lychee martini was our favorite. There is a parking lot right next to the building which is convenient! Definitely will be coming back to try more things!

    GYOZA (5)

Went during happy hour and sat on patio , very nice and waitress was super attentive Deconstructed Osaka was delicious and I would return for it alone However the vinegar or sour sauce in the gyoza was wayyyy too overpowering for the subtle taste of the dumpling

    Crème brûlée dessert- good!

Me and my plus one popped in Sushi by the Heights last evening ( Saturday night) around 5:30 for my first time in. Right off the top this place was dimly lit and very inviting. We sat at the bar and immediately reached for the happy hour menu as I'd heard that their happy hour options were extensive. Started with the sushi sampler , and while I didn't expect to have any "premium " pieces of sushi included, I was still hoping that the quality wouldn't suffer. Well, this was not the case because the nigiri was not as fresh as it could have been nor was the rice . Got the uni shooters next , along with some shishito peppers. Well the uni shooter had a good pickling liquid , but couldn't taste much uni at all , and the shishito peppers were probably my least favorite order outside of the sushi itself. We moved on to an order of pork belly and tuna tartare which were both nice size portions , but lacked flavor( both were under seasoned)..., Lastly , but what turned out to be the highlight of the meal, were the firecracker shrimp and the ribeye robata, Shrimp were a very flavorful bite that were crispy juiciness with a nice spicy kick and the ribeye strips though tiny were a good medium rare and quite tender. We finished off with the crème brûlée dessert that was also pretty good. Service was also pleasant so I gave an overall 3 stars...

My husband and I had frequented the Studewood Cantine and found out it closed! It was fate because late Friday night we were on our usual mission to figure out where to go have dinner and drinks after 10:00 PM with at least a 30-45 minute drive from where we live! We found this amazing sushi place with reverse Happy Hour on Friday's from 11:00 PM until 2:00 AM next door to the old Studewood Cantine. We happened to get there right at 11:00, chilled and laid back atmosphere with a DJ playing a good mix of music. The music was perfect where you could vibe and still have a conversation. Mike the bartender was great! We had excellent service throughout the night at the bar. The sushi was great quality and presentation. It's so hard to find good sushi bars that have flavorful spicy tuna or spicy salmon without drowning it in spicy mayo, which I'm not a fan of. The spice was definitely a different heat not spicy mayo. The spice was the perfect level of heat maybe spicy sesame oil, which i added Sriracha for extra heat because I love extra spicy. The reverse HH prices were extremely reasonable and well worth it. We got to meet the GM, Jacob who was checking on us. He was super chill and nice and we chatted with him for awhile telling him we'll be back this Friday! If you're looking for a great late night sushi place with reverse Happy Hour this is the place! See you guys on Friday!

    SEX ON THE MOON ROLL

Located in the heights, this restaurant is at the first floor of a multipurpose building. I was afraid that parking would be difficult but they have their own private lot right across the street. They have both indoor and outdoor patio seating available, and it was packed inside. I ordered the by the heights, sex on the moon, green dragon, and the dirty young girl rolls. I also ordered the tuna tartare and got their crispy calamari for free since they had an offer of a free app if you are following them on Instagram. The chef also came out and explained every dish we got to us. For many of the rolls, they place half the rolls in kimchee dressing and the other half in sesame oil. The Kimchee dressing makes the rolls taste more fresher but I liked the sesame oil more, as it provided more pop in the flavor with some aroma in it. My favorite roll was the dirty young girl roll but specifically the half with baked crab and masago. Just think of baked green mussels but in crab form, on top of a sushi roll. The other half with the chopped tuna was ok, the tuna had a nice texture but it was bland. My next favorite roll was their signature by the heights roll. The sex on the moon roll kind of had a little too much going on for me. As for the apps, the tuna tartare was similar to the roll where the tuna was a little bland. I liked how it came with seaweed salad and avocado though. The crispy calamari was solid as well, but it could've been crispier. Overall, service was pretty good but I did wait awhile to get my bill. I saw someone order the tsunami roll which came with a whole lobster tail tempura so I would like to try both that and their soft shell crab next time. The bathroom was really nice with amenities like mouth wash, lotion, and floss. They even had a secret room where they also do omakase.

SPIDER ROLL (6) & RED DRAGON ROLL (8)

Always drove by, but never stopped in... until recently. This spot is more of your trendy, not sushi restaurant feel inside (compared to your typical sushi restaurant), but that was okay with me! We were greeted and sat promptly. Unfortunately it was a quick dinner so no drinks, but the staff was always quick to refill our drinks. Had a small side salad, miso soup, and 2 sushi rolls. It all came out quickly and was super delicious. While there were only a handful of table sat when we were in, several staff members checked on us. Which tells me while it's slow, they aren't just sitting around but really helping each other out. I can't wait to go back when I have more time to enjoy a bottle of wine and just relax and enjoy my sushi and evening.

The food was FIRE. Def recommend the dragon roll. Also, Madori was so sweet and attentive.

as a newbie to the restaurant parking was kind of confusing. but once i found it out the restaurant was charming and quaint ambiance. service was normal during a restaurant. the presentation of the food was more elevated than most sushi restaurants. this was a nice change of pace compared to other sushi restaurants.

Even this time the GPS took us to an entrance that had us going the wrong way down a one-way, but we eventually figured it out I will say that the parking isn't all that great, but we were able to find a spot. If the parking lot is full you should be able to find street parking nearby Kanpai Club is a sister location to Handos. They share a kitchen and you can walk through an inside door access either. You can find the same cocktails and bites from Handos on the Kanpai menu, but there's also additional drinks and bites The bar feels like a Japanese Izakaya. It's a narrow space resembling a Japanese outdoor bar. It's intimately lit and well decorated. We did have to wait for two spots to open up, but that didn't take too long The bartenders were friendly, professional, and efficient. We went on a Friday night (fairly late), and they had two dedicated bartenders The cocktails were fun and were beautifully crafted. Most were served in novelty glassware. You can order classic cocktails, but both Kanpai and Hando offer a variety of signature cocktails. Most having some sort of Japanese or Asian fusion. They have beer, wine, and extensive sake list, as well as green tea and other nonalcoholic options The cocktails were tasty. The only one I was iffy on was their Espresso martini. It was poured from a machine and I guess there were having issues with it. The presentation was phenomenal. There was a roasted marshmallow garnish. The drink itself was far too Smokey in flavor than I like, or at least in terms of my espresso martinis The Yuzu Kosho fries were incredible. The flavors really hit the spot. The Okinawa Potato salad was both questionable to looks and and to eat lol. This purple mound of potato's had an interesting taste, look, and consistency. It wasn't bad, just... interesting and new Some tips: If you can't find this spot from the street, look for Handos. It's part of this restaurant Ask the bartender about the happy hour menu. Midtown with their questionable parking makes me not want to go. Upon entering, the place is a nice, intimate setting, with a handful of seating areas along with bar and outside seating. Recommend bringing a light jacket as it was a bit cold. The menu had a variety of offerings, and noted that all drinks are $12. They are card only, so bring your card or tap to pay and also your ID. Because they are 3 feet from a school and are considered a private club, they comply with TABC regulations to ensure safety and efficiency in their business. From the variety of the drinks, I opted for my signature drink, an Old Fashioned, it definitely had a bite to it. I slowly sipped on it while I lounged in one of the seating areas. My sister tried the Starduster Ranch Water, and she didn't like it, I had a sip of it and it tasted like only way I can describe is like soap. Saw that they also have Mocktails and THC Beverages, I didn't try any of them. We headed out as we were trying to grab dinner and Starduster doesn't currently offer food. I did get to speak with Dylan again outside and he clued me in on a couple of things they are planning to do such as having food trucks and also open the upstairs for additional space. Overall, I know being new (had just opened last week) there are many things being worked on and do hope that things improve here and they add additional seating, it got busy for a bit and seating was standing only. Thankfully I was there early enough and got a nice cozy seating area. I removed a star because both my drink and my sister weren't really anything special, it tasted like they were premade and poured from a tap, I missed seeing each one be made. I did like that there aren't TV's inside, it helps maintain the personal interactions natural and focused. Outside they do have TV's which makes sense for bigger groups. Though the seating is limited inside, likely to maintain it as a cozy and intimate space, outside has a lot of seating AND they are PET FRIENDLY! In cold weather without heating lamps, don't think anyone would really sit out there. Once spring and summer arrive, it will be nice. On their menu they indicate "Weekly Specials" Spaghetti Western Sundays Monday Night Steak Night (not sure why it wasn't happening the day I was there, would've enjoyed some steak) Tarot Tuesdays Whiskey Wednesday
