Some places have mastered the art of culinary destruction and Kin Dee is a prime example of that. Unfortunately, it's not alone in a sea of mediocrity. Kin Dee has garnered the hype thanks to the freeloading Instagram influencers who overhype the place in exchange for free food and drinks. Service was good without being overbearing. Live music also added a nice touch. Place has cozy ambiance. Now let's get to the food. Drunken noodles: whatever this was, it wasn't Pad Kee Mao. This was a bad joke on an otherwise amazing dish. It was a complete miss. It seemed to be missing key ingredients and looked more like Pad See Ew than Drunken Noodles. This dish had no soul. To anyone thinking of ordering drunken noodles at Kin Dee - Don't! Panang Curry: just looks wrong. To anyone thinking of ordering this or any other curry at Kin Dee - Don't! Drinks: look at the visually appealing pictures of the drinks on the menu and that should be it. Or stick to beers. If you like Thai food - you'll do yourself justice by not coming to Kin Dee. Go to either Street Food Thai Market or to Rim Tanon for far superior food. Or just get some frozen food from Trader Joe's or Costco and you'll still get better flavors. If you want to just enjoy the atmosphere, then perhaps you can waste your $$$ and time at Kin Dee. read more

Kin Dee - Drunken Noodles (the worst ever), Panang Curry (or is it?), drinks (that look good in pictures) - Thai Near Me - Houston, Texas

The ambiance and decor was 5/5. The food was beautiful but the taste was just ok. The flower dumplings and money bags we just had to try because the pictures looked so good but I would not order again. The flower dumplings were sweet which is not what I expected and a tiny portion. The money bags were pretty dry inside and tasted bland. The glass noodle salad was ok but not memorable. My friend had some sort of chicken and rice dish which was also not memorable. The place is definitely Instagramable but if I want tasty Thai food, I will go elsewhere. read more

4 stars for the drinks and the shrimp Tom yum noodle soup Atmosphere/service: great service, their patio is dog friendly so brought my pup! Also, a plus is that they have a parking lot included for the plaza they are a part of so this isn't a issue Food/drinks: a bit pricey but they have an amazing cocktail selection with interesting and unique flavors (~$12-14). My favorite was the spicy Tom yum (pictured), if you want it extra spicy just snap the pepper but be careful! Also tried the nan Jan which was very strong for me. Preferred the Tom yum My bf and I shared the red bbq pork noodle. Personally, the pork slices were very dry and there wasn't much flavor to the dish. We asked for seasoning and were provided with fish sauce with peppers (yum) and some chili oil. Added both and elevated the dish to our taste buds. The shrimp Tom yum noodle soup is delicious. The chef's recommendation is glass noodles but we opted for egg noodles and was not disappointed. The soup is warm, and has a nice tang that Tom yum has. Would recommend this! You can also ask for more noodles if you have broth leftover for an extra price. We also shared the Thai dumplings, so beautiful and colorful! Filled with peanuts and veggies (VERY PEANUT) which I liked. Comes with 5, nice to try but probably wouldn't order again. My friend had the mango sticky rice as well, comes with ice cream which hardens the rice. Not the best but not the worst. Overall, would come back for cocktails and the soup. Be prepared to drop a pretty penny if you have multiple drinks and an entree. read more

Environment: It was a friday night DJ was playing light dance music very enjoyable . Tables with banquettes are a bit too close. Nice lighting, nothing overwhelming. Service: Near excellent service - only change is i felt a little rushed. Food: Perfect. In every way. The taste and the look. We ordered so many dishes; thai basil chicken, dumpling flower, money bags, tom yum soup all perfection. Drinks: very few beers. They need any equal parts as an ipa. or a few more choices, there are many beer drinkers in houston that are very discerning. We ordered an old fashion and the 4 drink flight. They were absolutely perfect. Especially the Spicey Passion with its very unique smoky taste Five Stars and well deserved read more

I had the pleasure to dine here for dinner less than 2 weeks ago. Kin Dee is located in a new retail complex on Shepherd at W. 16th street. Parking space was adequate but I had to park at the opposite end of the complex and it was a short walk to the restaurant entrance. Inside the restaurant was bright and airy and they were following Covid 19 protocols. During the dinner, I sampled the Thai Flower Dumpling and the Golden Basket appetizers. Both were very good in taste and beautiful to look at especially the dumplings. Either would satisfy your appetizer needs. For the entree I chose the Drunken Noodles with shrimp and was given three levels of spice mild, medium and hot to choose from. I went with the medium level because my experience is that usually the mild level usually is too mild. When it arrived, I dug into it and immediately with the first bite went Wow! That's some spicy drunken noodles! As my mouth began to burn and sweat accumulated on my forehead I thought " Why didn't I go mild?" I'm not sure if I was accidentally given the hot level or not. All I can say is that I would "pity the fool" that tried it hot. Fortunately, I had also ordered a glass of the Butterfly Pea Flower Tea that helped put the fire out. What a pretty drink it is that changes color when the lime juice is added. While it was a little sweet, I enjoyed every drop. If you like tea, you will like this drink. Table service during the meal was professional and attentive. I thought that the meal would have been good taste wise but without that much heat. It's only for that reason that I give this meal a 3 rather than a 4. read more

Good quality Thai food and flavours! I love that they have some unexpected appetizers. Moneybags and pea flower dumplings are a must. Def want to try the street food green wrapper things next time! Love that they have thai chili's available- used that for my heat instead of standard chili sauce/oil that can sometimes change the flavour profile! Idk if the pea flower tea is standardly that sweet or if it was an off make- but could only taste sweetness. Just stick with the Thai tea! read more

We came in as soon as they opened for dinner (5ish?) and the service was amazing! Our server was training someone new and they both showed enthusiasm and we're so helpful in explaining the menu, drinks, concept and just everything related to the restaurant. It was our first time and I loved how we were treated so we are definitely coming back! The flower dumplings are also so much more than just an Instagram worthy pic, they are also so delicious and so worth it. Definitely a must try! *Also, the details in this restaurant from the silverware, China and wall decor was beautiful! read more

Our group of 15 decided to dine at this place for our friends celebration. Parking: There is a lot of parking space right outside the store. Ambience: I loved the ambience. Its a beautiful ambience with a modern touch. Food: We ordered a lot a food on our table and everything tasted so good be it veg or non veg. I rarely liked tofu but this place has one of the best tofu dishes. Their medium spicy is a good spicy. So be careful when opt for spicy. Drinks were great in taste. Service: The service was fast and the staff is polite and super professional. Loved them. Price: The place is a bit pricey as compared to the portion and order similar places in Houston but worth it. Overall: we had a great time at this place and this place is my to go place now. Highly recommended. read more

Ok. So I was really hoping this place would be amazing. Great reviews. Amazing pictures. Looked like it had potential. Service was great. Ambiance was great. I could imagine it being better without COVID. Live singer. Color schemes and theme was great. I was like "okaayyyy okaayyyy" Sat down. Ordered the all in one appetizer. Padthai and drunk noodles. Presentation was beautiful. Padthai came wrapped like a fricken omelette where you had to open up like a Japanese style omelette. Loved it. So fun. The dumplings were made so beautifully. It was so fun to look at. And so much fun to eat. Anddd.......... I was let down. It was just so...... Bland. The chicken skewers and the beef skewers were the most flavorful appetizers. But it wasn't enough. Not enough flavor. The sauces were weak and lacking in flavor. Added barely any depth to anything I dipped. The drunk noodles didn't have enough flavor. Bland. The pad thai was bland but was also had weird sour pockets of bites. I was confused. It didn't have that nice balance with the sweetness like pad thai usually does you know? You can tell they worked hard on the menu, presentation, theme and etc. But the food was so bland. I just don't see how the food was worth how much I spent. Sorry. I wanted to love you. read more

Ordered food from here last night on Uber eats, and for the hefty price I expected quality.. I ordered pad Thai, pad see ew, panang curry and mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream. While my toddler and I were eating the pad Thai, I started to notice black specks dispersed all throughout the food. I initially thought it was just char, but upon closer inspection it actually appears to be TEFLON that has peeled off from a non-stick pan. That is not safe to ingest, I am horrified my toddler ate it and I am also pregnant! I am disgusted and will never eat here again. Please check your non-stick pots and pans or invest in some high quality nontoxic stainless steel cookware!!!!! Took a photo for proof. That's not even all of it! read more

What a happy surprise of a spot! We arrived around 8pm and there was live music and the place was so lively! Two people celebrating their birthdays, people just hanging at the bar, all of inside was full! We sat outside where the fam kept us cool and the music from inside played just at the right volume to not be invasive. The food was increeeedible, the flavor explosion from the flower dumplings was through the roof. The garlic with cilantro and tiny bit of red pepper really made for a whole experience. The pad Thai was soooo delicious yet had a great kick to it. Recommendation: put the nuts, pepper and lime over it before mixing and eating for the best experience possible. GET THE THAI TEA IF YOURE GETTING ANYTHING SPICY - You're welcome. 10/10 read more

Went on a weeknight around 8pm and it was really busy but lively ambiance and comfortable. The live music was an enjoyable addition. The service was great, and she made really thorough recommendations of the menu. I loved the presentation of everything, and the plates used for each dish were really nice. The food is a 3.5 star for me. My two favorite dishes were the flower dumplings and the pork skewers. The dumplings had cilantro on the side which was recommended to eat together - very complimentary! The pork skewer was tender and had great flavor as well. My only thing was the rice served with the skewers was very sticky and not my favorite. The drunken noodles itself lacked flavor and it was doughy/soggy, even though I do typically enjoy saucey noodles. I thought the vegetables and the Thai basil made up for it. The papaya salad was less citrusy than I was expecting and seemed to be a little overwhelming with the fish sauce. The cabbage was also really big and touch to cut so that was pretty much wasted. The fried rice missed the mark for me but the vegetables and fish sauce offered some depth. read more

Kim Dee was fantastic!! The service was quick and courteous! Great wines by the glass!

Visited Kin Dee this past Saturday for my birthday! We made a reservation online, and had to change it last minute. They were very nice and accommodating on that. When we came in, they had a little HBD sign on the table that was a nice touch and in fact the person i spoke to about my reservation (i think he was the manager) made a point to come over and say happy birthday and make sure we liked the table change. Very nice. The decor in here was one reason I wanted to visit, and the space is really cute and visually appealing (see pic). Totally made for the 'gram and tik tok. Our waitress was a sweetheart, verrrry chatty and had a lot of recs which I appreciate. She even had a great mocktail rec for our pregnant friend. I got this purple tea with vodka drink (Purple Rain, see pic) which was pretty and tasted good but not extraordinary by any means. My friend got The Saneh Jan with a thai chili frozen in the ice cube and it was phenomenal! Presentation great again on both drinks. For food- we got the thai flower dumplings of course. The presentation was amazing (see pic) and they did taste great. You get five which are on the smaller size though. I think the $15 price tag is a little steep for that but i understand the labor behind it and I would order again. For meals, we got the green curry (great), the spicky pork soup (the egg noodles were amazing, see pic) and the pad thai which is wrapped in an omlette. Everything was delicious and aesthetically pleasing. For dessert, we had to get the mango sticky rice and it. was. superb. 10/10 (see pic). DEFINITELY order it!! One drawback: The space is beautiful, and they have these big round cool ball lights which were on when we got there. You can see them in the pic. However, around 7, they all turned off. I think it was because it signals like a nighttime ambience (no one was surprised but us when they abruptly went off) but i feel like it took away from the ambience and it was rather jarring. Like there was no dimming effect they just shut off. Would definitely go back! read more

Came on cold night for a friend's birthday dinner. She made reservations, which she reported to be a weird experience. Will have to follow up with her later on that. She apparently made reservations to be seated at a high top area? We ended up being seated inside at a regular table... The place looked pretty busy and clean. Just not sure how they were following social distancing rules because that night seem packed. We were seated right away and a server came immediately to take our drinks. Theres a QR scanner to view the menu through your phone. (The norm these days). All the drinks seem to be so unique in both name and flavors. I asked the served for his recommendation and he suggester the Tom Yum and the Purple rain. Tom Yum? Isn't that like a soup flavor? Lol, Okay I'll give it a try! Turns out the Tom Yum drink was yummy! It was almost like a hard limeade, and I had no complaints. Came with a Thai chili pepper, but I didn't break it up because I was too scare it would be too spicy. I also had the Purple rain which kinda had me going a little. Pretty strong for a pretty little drink lol. Definitely recommended. Food arrived at a decent time frame. I felt like all of the dishes were just okay. Honestly, nothing really had me wowed. We had the Thai Flower Dumplings, which was fairly interesting I must say... It had nuts, possibly fried onions, shallots, and sesame seeds? It was like a desert almost which was a bit confusing. Very unique, just not what you actually would order as an appetizer. 3/5 Golden Basket was just okay. I can't remember exactly what dish it mimicked, but I know I've had it before. Minced meat with veggies and fish sauce... So simple but this was made fancy I suppose. 3/5 Thai Krispy shrimp in blanket. Nothing amazing. Just as it sounds and tastes lol. 2/5 Kin Dee chicken wings, dipped in a sweet dark sauce. Again nothing spectacular. 3/5 Then moving on the the main course, We had the Thai Omelet with Crab Meat. This was the worst one of all. It was just super bland fried egg flavor... Would not recommend. 1/5 Thai basil chicken was just your ordinary minced chicken and basil dish over rice. Again, it was just okay... 3/5 Drunken noodles was decent, however medium was actually pretty spicy. 4/5 Overall the service was great and I had no complaints with the waiter. The food could use some work for the price we are paying... I probably would only come back for the drinks honestly. lol read more

I love Thai food. When I saw that we had a Thai place on HRW, I could not help but immediately make reservations. Kin Dee is located in the heights on shepherd. Upon arrival you could smell all the familiar fragrant spices that awaken your inner Thai senses. We were greeted by the manager as we were entering and he took us to our table where one of the fellow diners had already been seated. The inside is acutely Thai paying special hommage to elephants and all things Thai when you think about the space inside. The way the serving of each course works for HRW is that they bring out the first two courses together, then come out to take your order for the main entree, and finally when you are done come to take your order for dessert which is the fourth course. Our server's name was Earth and he was well informed about each dish and answered all of our questions. If he was unsure about something he would go back to the kitchen and get clarifications before providing any other details. To start off the evening, I went with a sababi which is super delicious and I will highly recommend it. My first course was the golden basket which is a dish of crispy shells filled with chicken and veggies. If I had to rank the things I tasted this would be my least favorite not because it was bad but because everything else was so good that I can't even come up with a fair rating scale. Next came the chicken satay which probably tasted the best in all of the various chicken satay I have had in Houston. My favorite part was the two sauces it came with to dip into. One was a tamarind based sauce which had a nice consistency and the other was fish sauce based finely cut vegetables. If I could I would have licked the dipping sauce dishes clean with my tongue. Main course was the khao soi which I think I could have gotten a HOT instead of a medium heat curry. It is the northern style curry which comes with noodles and chicken cut of your choice. I opted to go with the dark meat. As I was midway through my third course, everyone else was ordering more drinks and I wanted to try something different so I went with the butterfly pea flower tea. I have never had this before and it was my favorite iced tea drink that I have ever had. Usually I like hot drinks. This was iced, colorful, and super delicious. They sweeten it for you beforehand. Normally I would not recommend something that is pre-sweetened but this was not overly sweet! They know the ratios of things and the best part about this tea is that it changes colors from blue to purple if you add lime to it!!! I was in love. But that was all about to change because I got the mango sticky rice. It is such a great dish because normally when you get this from other restaurants the rice can be either too sweet or not sweet enough. Not at Kin Dee. My experience from the very beginning to the very last bite was absolutely fantastic. I am so glad there is another Thai restaurant in the area that finally stands out for flavor, unique takes on dishes, and ambience! read more

So to start off, I am a little sad giving a 3/5 for Kin Dee. The hype and the reviews are very strong and I waited a while before trying it out. I eat out at a lot of Thai restaurants all across Houston so there are a lot of good reference points among thai owned thai food places. Kin Dee is located on Shepherd next to the new Flower Child that opened recently. There are plenty of parking spaces! We got the wings (4/5, well cooked, comes with a sweet dipping sauce), pork belly skewers (3/5, pretty average taste, should've had more char and marinating longer?), and the purple dumplings (5/5, these are amazing and the best thing we had here). We got 2 coconuts for drinks ($7 each, yikes). Main entrees, we shared the pad thai (3/5, disappointing taste, but the presentation is awesome. The noodles are wrapped in an egg crepe. The taste just isn't good for my palate. I've never had thai food in Thailand, but I highly prefer pad thai flavors are a few other spots). We got the green curry with chicken (3/5, again, the sauce was a little watery and would've preferred it to be richer for me). We also shared the duck and noodle dish (4/5). The egg noodles were fantastic and the duck was well cooked. Overall, I felt like the hype was not justified for me. The prices here are very high compared to almost any other thai spot in the Heights and I wouldn't say the dishes here taste the best. Maybe it is the thai restaurant in the nicest location with the nicest and newest interior but for me, I prefer bang for the buck and flavor. Food (3.5/5) Bang for the buck (2/5 for thai street food and double the cost) Location (4/5) Service (5/5) read more

We ordered to-go on a Friday night. As of this week (week of 8/9/20) they officially "stopped" to-go orders on Friday and Saturday nights as they have way more reservations than they could handle. This is understandable, but they did make an exception for us since the kitchen wasn't busy at the moment. I definitely appreciated this! However, I still wouldn't bank on this to continue to happen, since we all know COVID times is pretty unpredictable. They were also nice enough to call us and let us know that the food was ready. The location was easy to find in the heights. They have a parking lot with tons of space, which is a huge plus in Houston. We ordered Papaya Salad, Shrimp Tom Yum Noodles Soup, Pad Thai, and Mango Sticky Rice. Overall, I would have to say 3/5 for all dishes. It's very different from authentic Thai food, and the flavors aren't quite there. The presentation is nice and I do appreciate that. If you're expecting authentic Thai food, I wouldn't come here for that. read more

The server was attentive and courteous. The food was mediocre. The problem was the cleanliness. When we sat down all the glasses on the table were filthy - not just one, which can be a fluke, but all of them. There were dry and wet food particles inside and outside of the glass. Those were replaced by the server. One of our cloth napkins had red and brown food crust all over it - hard to believe it had been laundered at all. The final straw was one of our cocktails had a black, coarse, curly hair in it. They were gracious about it and removed it from the bill, but we definitely have no desire to return.... or dine out anywhere for a while...... read more

Came across this Thai restaurant while I was searching for a place to eat in the Heights! Amazing food with authentic Thai flavors. I got their famous Thai flower dumpling! Super nutty flavor with a sweet and savory filling. You eat it with a bit of chili pepper to get a little kick to it. Next we got the All in One appetizer which includes small portions of all their popular appetizers. I loved the pork skewers the most and you eat it with their homemade peanut sauce. I got the shrimp tom yum as my entree with medium spice. You get to choose which type of noodles you want with it and I got glass noodles to absorb all the sweet and sour flavor from the soup. All dishes are a little on the pricier side but it's understandable being in the heights and having such high quality ingredients and aesthetics. There is a huge parking lot in the back! Amazing find on my work trip! Easy to find, very clean, great service, great food! I really wanted a steak and wine tonight yet couldn't help being drawn to Kin Dee's almost five star overall review, yummy food photos and options. So here I am. It's during COVID and they seem to be taking all the proper precautions. Every other table is closed and they have a scannable, digital menu. If you haven't used a digital menu before, you literally just point your camera at it and the menu pops up. Super easy! For the appetizer, I ordered the pork kabobs ($10 ish) The flavor was phenomenal! It comes with a good portion of pork belly so if you like the fatty parts, it's there! I kinda ate around a lot of the fat yet there was plenty of lean meat as well. Super yum!! I went with the traditional pad Thai because I've never had Pad Thai served with the Thai omelette. To The food is absolutely incredible. We went in during HRW, and we made a reservation, which I would definitely recommend. It was a Thursday evening, and they were super busy. We started off our meal with Grilled Pork Skewers which were delicious! I would go back just for those. Next, I had drunken noodles, which had really good flavor but were very spicy even for my liking. Lastly, we finished off with crème brûlée which was a little overcooked but still very good, and mango sticky rice, which was perfect! The downside to this restaurant is the live music. This is not a date night conversation place. Even without the singer performing the music is always blaring from the speakers. It felt like we were in a club while trying to enjoy our meal. Overpriced and not super authentic in my opinion. Feels like a gentrified restaurant made to fit into the Heights area. The Penang curry had no depth and wasn't that flavorful. While the money bags were good they were ridiculously overpriced. I will say the crab fried rice was pretty good though but idk if we'd come back just for that. This place is not it if you're looking for authentic Thai cuisine. I come to restaurants to EAT and if the food isn't good I see no point in returning. Both the ambiance and service at this restaurant are very nice and quaint but that's where the good ends. Unfortunately, the food and drinks were extremely disappointing. The cocktails were hard to finish. It tasted like they were trying to mask cheap liquor with the flavors of the beverage. Not enjoyable at all. As for appetizers, the pork belly skewers were dry. The Thai flower dumplings were beautifully made and had a very unique and satisfying flavor. This is the only dish I enjoyed. As for entrées, I ordered the pad krapow (Thai basil chicken) and my boyfriend ordered the kin dee fried rice. Pad krapow is a dish I'm very familiar with since it's one of my boyfriends staple dishes. I will say that I didn't even finish my plate and that's rare especially at an expensive restaurant like this. The comforting umami flavor that usually comes in a pad krapow dish = nonexistent. It was overly salty from soy sauce and barely any heat. Real Thai food always has a kick. It completely missed ALL the marks and did not taste like an Asian dish which I found so strange. No complexity of flavors whatsoever. Same issue with the fried rice. It was bland and not impressive. I don't know if it was a fluke but do not trust the raving reviews y'all. People just come here for the aesthetics, not the food. I hate leaving bad reviews but it was painful signing that check and leaving completely disappointed. Sadly, won't return. read more

First time I came here, we ordered to-go. The food was okay.. most of it was flavorless and really disappointing. Despite of last times experience, I came for a birthday for a second time and it was better than the first for sure. Ambiance was casual, there was a singer there so we were kind of yelling over each other for our party. Most of the food was great and some were just okay to me. --Thai Tea (3.5/5) Usually most Thai teas kind of taste the same. It tasted watered down and when asked about it she said she would switch it to todays batch they made which tasted way better. --Thai Flower Dumpling (4/5) Dumping tasted peanut-y, texture and flavor was great though. This was a veggie appetizer. --Golden Basket (5/5) Light appetizer with chicken and corn in a little fried cup. Flavor and sauce was awesome I wanted seconds! --Money Bag (2/5) Minced up chicken and shrimp wrapped. I didn't taste the shrimp in it, reminded me of an egg roll. Very basic, nothing appealing for me to order again --Grilled Pork Belly Skewers (4/5) Pork belly was juicy and tender. First time having it had more flavor in the meat, this time wasn't as flavorful but it was still good. Comes with sticky rice on the side as well. --Panang Curry (2/5) Flavorless. --Thai Basil Chicken (5/5) One of the best dishes we tried, first and second time seem to be consistent. Definitely can't go wrong with this one. Little bit of heat and basil with chicken, egg, and rice. --Pad See Ew (5/5) it's a must order every Thai place I go. Flavor was great this time around. Noodles were cooked to perfection, this savory dish --Drunken Noodles (3/5) More on the tangy side which is different. And a hint of basil compared to the pad see ew. --Kin Dee Fried Rice (5/5) Great flavor, every bite was better and better! The chicken and shrimp toget --Mango Sticky Rice (5/5) Mango was on the warm side but sweet. Everyone loved the sticky rice which I'm not a fan of in general. The coconut milk was almost like an ice cream which I loved! Mango and coconut milk ice cream yum! --Pandan Cake (3/5) I thought the pandan cake was very basic but if you're craving for it then get it! It's not as potent as other pandan cakes I've had nor was the color really there. --Thai Tea Cream Brûlée (4/5) Creme brûlée is my favorite dessert! I didn't taste the Thai tea but it was still pretty good. Food seems to be inconsistent, but I'm glad I got to give them another chance to redeem themselves. Service was great, food came out quick. It's worth a try! read more

This was my second visit to Kin Dee, and the food was, again, excellent. I was blown away with how attentive and kind the staff were. I've only visited when it isn't busy, but every time I've been it's been really easy to hold conversations without having to shout. I really like Kin Dee's atmosphere, and one of my top recommendations for Thai food in the Heights area. The only downside is the parking lot can get really tight, and street parking in the area can be tricky, but overall, def recommend. read more
