I love a matcha shop!!! Super packed but quick service. Saw some people doing work and some chatting with friends. There appears to be outlets and free WiFi. They have classic matcha lattes and great fruity flavor combinations and seems very authentic!
Went in with high expectations, but it was just alright. The staff was friendly and made our drinks pretty quick. The interior was cute, perfect for working or catching up with a friend. The azuki matcha was a dud. It was missing the earthiness and sweetness of the azuki bean. Instead, it just tasted like chunky matcha. The black sesame latte was sweeter than expected. It was still pretty good, but I just feel like I would've gotten sick had I finished the whole thing. I would probably just try the strawberry matcha latte next time.
Friend recommended this place! I ordered the strawberry matcha, bc staff said that was a must try/ most popular, and friend ordered the hojicha latte. I haven't had enough strawberry matchas in my life, but this was indeed a very delicious strawberry matcha. The matcha flavor is there and the strawberry jam is sweet and not overly thick. I think the drink itself was rlly good, but ive def had stronger matchas. I took a sip of the hojicha and it was also rlly good and refreshing. You can def taste the hojicha flavor! The store is quite small and can get super packed and busy, but there are some seats to sit at! Staff were super friendly!! If it's within vicinity of wherever im at, id def stop to get a drink again.
RATING: 4.5/5 | Came on a Saturday late afternoon and it was busy! The line moves, thankfully. It's relatively spacious for a cafe, but there's minimal seating. There is some counter space, but mainly for standing purposes. I ordered a standard Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk ($7.35) and my friend got her usual Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8). Docking 1/2 point bc the matcha is pre-made. I'm a fan of the whisking process bc I do believe there's a craft to matcha overall. Surprisingly, my drink tasted fine and my bev was a good color, so I was pleasantly happy. We waited less than 10 min for a table to open up, but you have to be there at the right time, otherwise you prob just grab your drink + go. Overall, glad I tried Kijitora. It's not my first matcha choice, but it was decent for a standard matcha latte. Their specialty matcha drinks look to have mixed reviews, but I'm personally not a fan of sweet drinks.
I came here today to experience local matcha from Kijitora, a local matcha place that was all about cats! Everything was cat They had a lot of merchandise dedicated to cats! The tote bags were so cute but they were kind of pricey in my opinion. A standard beige Kijitora bag was priced for $30 each! They had several designs for sale. I was just busy checking out the cool cat merchandise while I was waiting in the long line to purchase the matcha drinks. The line was exceptionally long! It was worth the hype though! When I was my turn, I got an iced strawberry matcha latte and an iced mango matcha latte. It was so pretty when I got them. The mango and strawberry paste were sitting at the bottom of the matcha latte. I had to stir and mix the fruits with the whole drink. Surprisingly it was not sweet at all and was just right! They made it in a way that wanted you to crave more of it. It was very addicting. I did not get onigiris this time but will be sure to get some next time I'm here. They were just $4 each for miso salmon, tuna mayo, mentaiko cod roe, sukiyaki beef, and chashu pork. What a decent price for one onigiri! I would definitely be sure to get the miso salmon next time I'm here. The place was very cute with nice little tables for individuals. The place was very cozy with lots of sunlight coming in. Very modern with plants all around. It was so loud with people talking over each other. There were too many people on a Sunday afternoon so I had to walk around or cut through people to get my way. It was that crowded. I also didn't expect this place to be on the second floor and the stairs to be that steep. It was hectic carrying my stroller upstairs. Luckily someone helped me get down! The stairs are very narrow so I had to hold onto the rail. It was not ergonomically friendly at all.
Very yummy matcha. Store is super small though. And it's kind of disorganized in there when you wait for your order. Wish they would just call out the numbers on the receipt they give you. Matcha was pretty good but was not amazing.
Stumbled onto this café while walking around the neighborhood with my wife. At 3 in the afternoon, on a Saturday- it was packed. The line is what drew our curiosity. It was rather warm today, so an Iced anything sounded great. The café is tucked away in the middle of the block. The line moves fast and the staff is efficient pumping our orders without having the cafe get overly crowded. I got the iced strawberry match latte. The strawberry was a nice sweetener to the match. It blended well with the earthyness of the match. The latter was overall a nice refreshing drink. Dont expect to sit. Go in, know what you want, and keep it moving. On the day like today, with the crowd, you can't expect to peruse though the little café. They had some cute cat merch. As I glanced quickly while people piled up behind me before I made my order.
10/10 best match i had in NYC! There was so much strawberry and it was sweet and fresh, i loved it!
Really cute cafe! The baristas were super sweet and quick to make the drinks. I ordered an iced strawberry matcha with soy milk (i believe they have almond, oat, and soy as alt. milks), and 2 black pour over coffees. The matcha was so flavorful and not overly sweet. So creamy and such a nice fresh strawberry purée was used at the bottom of the cup. The pour over coffee had such a robust flavor without being too bitter. Definitely one of my favorite roasts i've tried. I'll be back to try the Kuwacha Latte.
Are you serious this store is sooo freaking cute. Their matcha drinks are sooo good I really love the red bean with matcha ( it was so rich and yummy whoever thought of this is a genius) get a drink here and walk around the cute neighborhood
Store was packed when I arrived, it was on a Saturday around 3:30pm-ish. There were a bench and couple of tables and chairs. I ordered iced azuki red bean matcha latte with oat milk. The top of the drink was pretty cute! Honestly, I couldn't really taste the matcha because the taste was over powered by the red bean. Overall the drink is not bad if you like red bean! We were hoping to sit down a bit to enjoy the drink for a while but all the seats were already occupied. We were almost finished with our drinks by the time we got seats. Right now they have a hello kitty collab, they also sell stickers, mini blind boxes figures and other merch.
Very small but very cute coffee and matcha shop, tucked away in a spot that's easy to walk past if you're not looking for it. What I loved right away was that they sell fun merchandise like stickers and also feature work from local artists. It makes the place feel more community-driven, and you get the sense that it's about more than just drinks. I went on a gloomy morning and ordered an iced matcha latte with vanilla and whole milk, while my friend ordered an iced strawberry matcha latte with oat milk. Both drinks looked beautiful -- the colors were vibrant and layered, and visually they definitely gave the impression of high-quality matcha. Unfortunately, taste-wise, we were both underwhelmed. My drink tasted mostly like vanilla milk with no noticeable matcha flavor coming through. My friend's drink was the same situation -- it was basically strawberry milk. Now, in the bigger picture, that's not a bad flavor to drink, but when you're specifically ordering matcha lattes, you expect the matcha to be the star. It's possible other drinks on the menu might deliver better balance, but at least for these two, it missed the mark. Even so, I do like that this shop is small, local, and creative with their café space. Supporting local businesses -- especially ones that support artists -- is always a plus in my book. I'd come back to browse their merchandise or maybe try a different drink, but I wouldn't get another matcha here.
Really good quality matcha! There was quite a line when we arrived at Kijitora on the weekend, but it moved rather quickly. The matcha here is amazing and top tier quality. I ordered a Matcha Latte with oatmilk, unsweetened. I definitely should've opted for a sweetener because that's my personal preference, but even without it, the matcha was really good. If I could go back, I'd probably order the Strawberry Matcha Latte instead. I also tried the Dirty Black Sesame Latte with white chocolate which was fantastic! And I tried the Miso Mocha which was not so great. In theory, this drink sounded so good. Unfortunately, the drink was not balanced and the miso was so strong that the drink tasted way too savory. If the balance was better and the drink had more mocha and sweetness (and much less miso), I think this could've been way more enjoyable. My friend described it as drinking cold miso soup. Two hits and one miss! Overall, really good matcha.

I don't know how this place is not packed with people. The best matcha I ever had in NYC. Freshly made onigiri. Super friendly staff, and nice ambiance, I will be back. I thought onigiri will be taken from the fridge ... oy I was wrong, it is freshly made. Wish I could eat there every day. Anyone giving less than 5 stars is a mean competitor. read more
Long queue, but so worth the wait! It does go by fast. The drinks were delicious, but the latte is a bit too creamy for my taste. I do prefer the sparkling matcha beverage (seasonal drink). The shop is small, but they do have a cute section along the wall where you can also purchase cute merch from japan. Def coming back next time to try other items from their menu. read more

Expect the line here on a weekend to be WILD but honestly, the drinks are worth it! They're known for their strawberry matcha, but when I saw the toasted black sesame latte, I knew it had to be mine. Note that they do change their menu every so often - we were bummed when the menu we saw online didn't match the one we saw in person. Their toasted black sesame latte deserves all the praise in the world - creamy, nutty, delicious and unlike anything I've had before. Great for black sesame fans! I feel like they could really maximize their store space - it's a bit messy and full of merch in various states of unboxing, and the workspace behind the counter where they prep food and drink was really messy - it gave things a bit of an unprofessional and unclean vibe. read more
I came on a weekend knowing that they specialize in asian flavors such as hojicha, matcha and sesame. Before I came here, I knew that I would get the strawberry matcha latte and seeing that many people before and after were ordering the same thing, it confirmed my choice. It's quite popular here - for good reason. It's really solid. The strawberry puree on the bottom adds to the sweetness. The matcha they used is really bright in color and from Japan, so you know it's the good stuff. I did really enjoy the taste a lot. The only disappointing factor is that I personally agree that it's a bit overpriced. I know that they use quality matcha and personally make their strawberry base, but $7.75 + tax seemed like a hefty price tag that I'm not sure if I could honestly recommend it for that price or go to order it again... read more

Tried the original iced matcha latte (half sweetness) and it was perfection! The matcha quality is so good- and it wasn't too sweet. I've been told the strawberry matcha latte is incredible, so that's next on my list! Service is friendly but expect a line/wait. The inside has some cute Japanese and cat decor and merch, but no seating. Some benches outside though! read more

Ordered: Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte (~$8): with oat milk (+75¢) Aya's take: Okay, I understand the Kijitora hype now. The Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte is the perfect summer drink but who am I kidding, I would order this any day of the year. The matcha is earthy and mild while the strawberry is sweet and creamy. It's a nice symphony of flavors that keeps you going back for another sip. It's a bit steep at almost $9 for a single drink. I like the quality and the flavor but not so much the value/cost. Great try; would come back if I'm in the area! read more

Wherever you are in NYC, Kijitora is worth the trek to visit! I was staying in Harlem but I knew I had to visit after seeing all its hype. So glad I made it because the matcha lattes here are some of the best I've had! We got a iced strawberry matcha latte and a regular iced matcha latte. They were both SO GOOD. The strawberry puree had just the right amount of sweetness and did not taste artificial at all. It blended really well with the matcha. It was so good that I finished my drink in no time - I almost went back to get another one! Aside from matchas, they also had fun drinks such as miso mocha, sesame latte, and tiramisu latte. I can't wait to be back and try other drinks! read more

Wow. I love this coffee spot! Their lavender milk tea is not overly strong and has a very subtle lavender taste to it which was perfect! Their tiramisu latte is not bad as well (better hot than cold) it's not too sweet and the tiramisu is pretty subtle! I am IN LOVE with their strawberry macha latte. It makes me feel like I've never had good macha latte before because this was just so good! The latte was so smooth and the strawberry and macha were perfectly portioned! Highly recommended! I wished I was able to try all their lattes!!! read more

So glad i finally got to try kijitora!! Such good matcha!! It has a delicate balance of sweetness too. Highly recommend the strawberry matcha with oat milk read more
Got here on a Sunday afternoon with some friends and waited around 30 mins in line. We originally came because of the strawberry matcha hype but to be honest I think that was our least favorite drink that we tried. We got the strawberry matcha, hoji latte, and dirty black sesame. The strawberry in the matcha was a bit too strong so I would probably go with a normal matcha latte next time. The hoji latte and dirty black sesame had the perfect amount of sweetness and tea to milk ratio. It wasn't too watered down and was also super creamy. I highly recommend those ones and I definitely want to go back to try some of their other specialty drinks. Note that this place is to go only and there will most likely be a pretty long line. I do think it's worth trying at least once but I do think their drinks are pretty pricey with alternative milks costing $0.75 AND iced drinks costing an additional $0.75. read more

My favourite spot for speciality drinks in Williamsburg! The black sesame and hojicha latte are both so delicious and perfectly nutty. Cheaper than others that I have tried but way better. Line can get a little long but the staff are quick and efficient with orders. Store is quite small with no space to sit inside but there are a few seats outdoors to enjoy your drinks :) read more

Best matcha spot in New York. Quality of the tea is crazy good. Texture was smooth. Strawberry wasn't too sweet or artificial tasting either. Will come back when I visit NY again!! read more
Absolutely 5 stars all around. Authentic Japanese matcha and coffee here. They have a great tiramisu latte, Sakura matcha latte, and fizzy drinks. They also have a signature black sesame latte that I'm excited to try the next time I'm around. This cafe is next to Coat of Arms clothing shop so it may be easy to miss. 100% fan! read more
This matcha is so good! This place has been getting a lot of buzz for their strawberry matcha, and I agree that it really is all that. I feel like they have the perfect ratio for their strawberry matcha latte -- it's just enough sweet and also there's enough matcha flavor to come through. My one thing is that it is pretty pricey (~$8.50 for a matcha, and some more if you get alternative milk). I don't think this is the kind of matcha that I would intentionally go out of the way for. But if I were ever in the Williamsburg area, I definitely would make a stop here. I suggest you give it try if you're close! read more

Adorable little cafe with Japanese-inspired flavors and a cute cat theme all around. The space is small with only a few table outdoors, so it's best as a place to grab and go. I tried the miso mocha and while it was delicious, it was also very, very rich like a thick hot chocolate. Luckily I was sharing the drink, but otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to finish it alone. Great for hot cocoa lovers though! The other drink options look amazing, so I'll have to come back to try more. I also noticed one of their alternative milks is sesame milk. I tried it with my mocha and it was great. Never seen that on cafe menus before. read more
As someone who makes matcha at home (with matcha straight from Japan) I hate paying for matcha at cafes because they always disappoint BUT kijitora's matcha really is superior. SO SO GOOD. Strawberry matcha is good if you like something sweet but if you just want some semi sweet matcha get their original matcha. Con: expect a line. I had no idea it was this popular but the line will be long so don't come if you're in a rush read more
I firmly believe that the matcha scene in NYC is a miss, but Kijitora did it just right. I came in on a late Saturday afternoon with a friend, and it was packed! The space itself is tight and only allows for standing room, with just the ordering counter and a wall of cat-themed merchandise you can buy. Despite there being a lot of people, we were able to place our order within 5-10 minutes of entering and similarly received our drinks within 5-10 minutes, so the service was quite fast. I ordered an Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk. It wasn't the best matcha I've had, but it was good matcha nonetheless! Whenever I've gotten matcha in NYC in the past, whether at a local coffee shop or a dedicated tea house have disappointed me with either a powdery texture, grassy taste, or too much milk, but the matcha I had here checked the right boxes for me. I plan on stopping back for their specialty drinks! read more
I've had some really good matchas and many, many very disappointing matchas. What it has taught me is that you really have to go to a place known for matcha to not get $5 pale green milk handed to you. At Kijitora, they nail it. I got a specialty matcha (with strawberry) so mine was $7.50 but I think the quality of the drink was worth it. It was truly delicious. Service was friendly even though they were very busy. There was a bit of a wait when I got here but it didn't take too long to order or to receive the order, plus they give you a number on your receipt to keep track. It was a bit cramped waiting inside though so I waited outside for a bit before going back inside. read more
Super cute, Japanese-inspired cafe near the first Brooklyn stop on the L train. My friend and I found Kijitora by coincidence since had an hour to kill. The interior is well decorated with cute cartoon cats with lots of small gifts (stickers and tote bags, for example) and trinkets you can buy along with pastries and coffee/tea drinks. There are only has a few small tables inside and some outside. DIRTY BLACK SESAME LATTE - 7.50 +0.75 for oat milk Beautiful presentation, the cup of coffee (with latte art and black sesame seeds aesthetically sprinkled on one half) comes in a wooden tray with a little cat figurine in the corner. The latte was smooth (thanks to the oat milk), and the black sesame flavor was roasty, nutty and strong. It's expensive, but a solid drink, nonetheless. There are lots of local coffee shops with its own unique personality in Brooklyn, and Kijitora is one I'd recommend. read more
The shop is pretty small, barely any room to wait around for your drink after ordering. I got the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk for $9.25, and I got to say it's not worth the hype that it is getting! I've had better strawberry matcha elsewhere with bigger serving and better matcha flavor. Save yourself the travel and the money, because you can do better yourself at home or get one from plentiful of other coffee/tea shops read more
I came here 3 times on my nyc trip and every drink was delicious! I got the strawberry matcha latte, which has really good quality matcha. The tiramisu latte was amazing, I ordered it hot and it was still sweet and had a great flavor. My brother got the black sesame latte which had a nice nutty flavor, very unique. Service was great, the store is super cute. Loved the little Knick knacks they sold. Will be back! read more

Tiny shop located in Brooklyn. They are clearly doing pretty well based on the line they have at all times. It moves quickly though! I got the strawberry matcha which was pretty good. You can tell they use high quality matcha. Only docking a point because paying almost $9 for a matcha is insane to me!! I'm from LA and I cannot say I've ever paid as much for a matcha in my life. read more
A really delicious cup of matcha! The matcha was sweet with a mild umami and I got brown sugar syrup which was delicious and not too sweeet. It's so cozy in here and they're adjacent to a designer for some eye candy after your matcha latte. My first matcha latte in my nyc trip made a goood impression and it took me everything in me not to buy all the cat merch. read more
Kijitora is very popular (I think by Tik Tok not sure what kids are up to these days) but it is quite good. There is typically a line here but it does move quickly. I got the strawberry matcha latte (super basic, I know) but it was very good. The strawberry was sweet but didn't overpower the matcha taste. The only reason I gave this place four stars instead of five is because I think it's overpriced, but nonetheless worth a visit. read more
Came here on a Sunday morning to catch up with a friend. Got the black sesame latte with oat milk. It was REALLY sweet. I think I should've gotten it dirty. I think an espresso shot would've really mellowed things out. The spot itself is really small and I don't think there's WiFi (could be wrong). There are a couple chairs you can sit inside, but most of them are outside. Even then seating is fairly limited so I'd recommend just grabbing your drink and going somewhere else (McCarren park isn't too far away). Barista/service was fine albeit definitely took their time/care with the drink. It's only a two person operation though so I definitely wouldn't expect super fast service. Drink was about $6.50. I think it's a fine coffee/drink spot in the Williamsburg area. I don't think it's something I'd go out of my way to go to, but wouldn't complain going to again. read more

not going to lie, i used to not be the biggest fan. It's one of those places that was viral on social media, and the quality wasn't the best. but i feel like they really worked on the quality of their matchas and now it's one of my go-to spots -- especially for the strawberry matcha. warning in the summers they usually have a long line! read more
