Went in with high expectations, but it was just alright. The staff was friendly and made our drinks pretty quick. The interior was cute, perfect for working or catching up with a friend. The azuki matcha was a dud. It was missing the earthiness and sweetness of the azuki bean. Instead, it just tasted like chunky matcha. The black sesame latte was sweeter than expected. It was still pretty good, but I just feel like I would've gotten sick had I finished the whole thing. I would probably just try the strawberry matcha latte next time.
Friend recommended this place! I ordered the strawberry matcha, bc staff said that was a must try/ most popular, and friend ordered the hojicha latte. I haven't had enough strawberry matchas in my life, but this was indeed a very delicious strawberry matcha. The matcha flavor is there and the strawberry jam is sweet and not overly thick. I think the drink itself was rlly good, but ive def had stronger matchas. I took a sip of the hojicha and it was also rlly good and refreshing. You can def taste the hojicha flavor! The store is quite small and can get super packed and busy, but there are some seats to sit at! Staff were super friendly!! If it's within vicinity of wherever im at, id def stop to get a drink again.
RATING: 4.5/5 | Came on a Saturday late afternoon and it was busy! The line moves, thankfully. It's relatively spacious for a cafe, but there's minimal seating. There is some counter space, but mainly for standing purposes. I ordered a standard Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk ($7.35) and my friend got her usual Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8). Docking 1/2 point bc the matcha is pre-made. I'm a fan of the whisking process bc I do believe there's a craft to matcha overall. Surprisingly, my drink tasted fine and my bev was a good color, so I was pleasantly happy. We waited less than 10 min for a table to open up, but you have to be there at the right time, otherwise you prob just grab your drink + go. Overall, glad I tried Kijitora. It's not my first matcha choice, but it was decent for a standard matcha latte. Their specialty matcha drinks look to have mixed reviews, but I'm personally not a fan of sweet drinks.
I came here today to experience local matcha from Kijitora, a local matcha place that was all about cats! Everything was cat They had a lot of merchandise dedicated to cats! The tote bags were so cute but they were kind of pricey in my opinion. A standard beige Kijitora bag was priced for $30 each! They had several designs for sale. I was just busy checking out the cool cat merchandise while I was waiting in the long line to purchase the matcha drinks. The line was exceptionally long! It was worth the hype though! When I was my turn, I got an iced strawberry matcha latte and an iced mango matcha latte. It was so pretty when I got them. The mango and strawberry paste were sitting at the bottom of the matcha latte. I had to stir and mix the fruits with the whole drink. Surprisingly it was not sweet at all and was just right! They made it in a way that wanted you to crave more of it. It was very addicting. I did not get onigiris this time but will be sure to get some next time I'm here. They were just $4 each for miso salmon, tuna mayo, mentaiko cod roe, sukiyaki beef, and chashu pork. What a decent price for one onigiri! I would definitely be sure to get the miso salmon next time I'm here. The place was very cute with nice little tables for individuals. The place was very cozy with lots of sunlight coming in. Very modern with plants all around. It was so loud with people talking over each other. There were too many people on a Sunday afternoon so I had to walk around or cut through people to get my way. It was that crowded. I also didn't expect this place to be on the second floor and the stairs to be that steep. It was hectic carrying my stroller upstairs. Luckily someone helped me get down! The stairs are very narrow so I had to hold onto the rail. It was not ergonomically friendly at all.
Stumbled onto this café while walking around the neighborhood with my wife. At 3 in the afternoon, on a Saturday- it was packed. The line is what drew our curiosity. It was rather warm today, so an Iced anything sounded great. The café is tucked away in the middle of the block. The line moves fast and the staff is efficient pumping our orders without having the cafe get overly crowded. I got the iced strawberry match latte. The strawberry was a nice sweetener to the match. It blended well with the earthyness of the match. The latter was overall a nice refreshing drink. Dont expect to sit. Go in, know what you want, and keep it moving. On the day like today, with the crowd, you can't expect to peruse though the little café. They had some cute cat merch. As I glanced quickly while people piled up behind me before I made my order.
Really cute cafe! The baristas were super sweet and quick to make the drinks. I ordered an iced strawberry matcha with soy milk (i believe they have almond, oat, and soy as alt. milks), and 2 black pour over coffees. The matcha was so flavorful and not overly sweet. So creamy and such a nice fresh strawberry purée was used at the bottom of the cup. The pour over coffee had such a robust flavor without being too bitter. Definitely one of my favorite roasts i've tried. I'll be back to try the Kuwacha Latte.
Store was packed when I arrived, it was on a Saturday around 3:30pm-ish. There were a bench and couple of tables and chairs. I ordered iced azuki red bean matcha latte with oat milk. The top of the drink was pretty cute! Honestly, I couldn't really taste the matcha because the taste was over powered by the red bean. Overall the drink is not bad if you like red bean! We were hoping to sit down a bit to enjoy the drink for a while but all the seats were already occupied. We were almost finished with our drinks by the time we got seats. Right now they have a hello kitty collab, they also sell stickers, mini blind boxes figures and other merch.
Very small but very cute coffee and matcha shop, tucked away in a spot that's easy to walk past if you're not looking for it. What I loved right away was that they sell fun merchandise like stickers and also feature work from local artists. It makes the place feel more community-driven, and you get the sense that it's about more than just drinks. I went on a gloomy morning and ordered an iced matcha latte with vanilla and whole milk, while my friend ordered an iced strawberry matcha latte with oat milk. Both drinks looked beautiful -- the colors were vibrant and layered, and visually they definitely gave the impression of high-quality matcha. Unfortunately, taste-wise, we were both underwhelmed. My drink tasted mostly like vanilla milk with no noticeable matcha flavor coming through. My friend's drink was the same situation -- it was basically strawberry milk. Now, in the bigger picture, that's not a bad flavor to drink, but when you're specifically ordering matcha lattes, you expect the matcha to be the star. It's possible other drinks on the menu might deliver better balance, but at least for these two, it missed the mark. Even so, I do like that this shop is small, local, and creative with their café space. Supporting local businesses -- especially ones that support artists -- is always a plus in my book. I'd come back to browse their merchandise or maybe try a different drink, but I wouldn't get another matcha here.
Really good quality matcha! There was quite a line when we arrived at Kijitora on the weekend, but it moved rather quickly. The matcha here is amazing and top tier quality. I ordered a Matcha Latte with oatmilk, unsweetened. I definitely should've opted for a sweetener because that's my personal preference, but even without it, the matcha was really good. If I could go back, I'd probably order the Strawberry Matcha Latte instead. I also tried the Dirty Black Sesame Latte with white chocolate which was fantastic! And I tried the Miso Mocha which was not so great. In theory, this drink sounded so good. Unfortunately, the drink was not balanced and the miso was so strong that the drink tasted way too savory. If the balance was better and the drink had more mocha and sweetness (and much less miso), I think this could've been way more enjoyable. My friend described it as drinking cold miso soup. Two hits and one miss! Overall, really good matcha.
amazing! i tried kijitora for the first time on my recent NYC trip, and came back every day. the black sesame latte specifically was my absolute favorite. service was friendly, such a cute little cat-themed place, and they have adorable merch! i will absolutely be back on my next trip. i will be thinking about the black sesame latte every day until i return, it was THAT good! read more

Came to Kijitora on a Saturday afternoon and there was a long line. I waited about 15-20 minutes before getting to order. The shop is tiny, so once you're inside, you place your order and then sort of awkwardly stand off to the side while waiting for your drink. It gets a bit cramped, especially if it's busy. I tried three drinks, all with oat milk: Strawberry Matcha - Really balanced. The strawberry wasn't too sweet or overpowering, and the matcha still came through nicely. Tiramisu Latte - My favorite! Light, creamy, and just the right pick me up. Sesame Latte - Good, but the sesame was a little thick for my taste. Still tasty, just not my personal favorite. The drinks came out in about 5-10 minutes, and the staff were super friendly. The store sells sell nicknacks, bag, and blind boxes near the that are worth checking out if you're into fun collectibles. Overall, the drinks are great and the vibes are cute--but I'd only come back if the line isn't too crazy. read more

Great quality matcha! I got the iced strawberry matcha latte, and I enjoyed how it wasn't overly sweet. They used a strawberry puree, and I liked how it didn't taste artificial; it tasted like real strawberries (what a rarity these days). I'm usually a slow drinker, but it was so good that I drank it speedily. I can't wait to come back here again! read more

Matcha latte is probably the best I've had in NYC as of now! Make sure to drink it before the ice melts though because it really waters down the drink. It's also $6 which is more on the affordable side in NYC (extra if you change the milk which I did). Space is cute with plants and is cute to hang and chat with others. Person who took my order wasn't the nicest and felt disinterested, but it is what it is. read more

I had heard stellar reviews about this place so I decided to check it out, they had some seasonal matchas such as Chestnut and Strawberry, but I opted for something unique like adzuki red bean matcha latte. Service was on point and its a very cute cafe, I also got a mochi brownie that was AMAZING in every way- for those who know mochi brownies are very hard to get right in texture and taste. Kijitora is a very popular matcha place, I've seen it all over Instagram and TikTok. So of course, being the matcha fiend that I am, I had to go and check out what the hype was all about. I went in April and got their iced strawberry matcha latte with oat milk. I took a sip and I was confused as to why so many people like their matcha. It was too sweet, I felt like the strawberry jam overpowered the matcha, and there was barely any matcha flavor. The matcha is definitely on the weaker side here. I'm not sure if I just got a bad drink that day but I want to give them a second chance, however, I'm also not sure if I will. read more

Kijitora in Williamsburg absolutely lives up to the buzz. I got their hot tiramisu latte and my partner ordered the strawberry matcha latte, both were delicious and well balanced, not overly sweet. I officially understand the hype. The inside is super cute and cozy, making it a great spot to stop, sip, and recharge. If you're in the area and in need of a caffeine boost, this place is a must-stop. Consider this your sign. read more
My absolute favorite strawberry matcha latte in the city - it's sweet and creamy, while not being overpowered by the strawberry, like a lot of other strawberry matcha lattes I've had. I'll keep this review short & sweet, but my friends and I's final verdict for our matcha crawl was that Kijitora had the best matcha latte! You can pick which milk (oat) and sweetener (agave); initially, I was worried the drink would be too sweet with how much syrup they put in. However, after properly mixing the agave, we agreed there was a prominent matcha taste and had a creamy texture. There was no astringent aftertaste, common in cheaper matcha powder, and it had such a bright green color! To illustrate Kijitora's hype, as I strolled along the streets of Brooklyn, I saw at least two people passing by every few minutes with a Kijitora matcha drink in their hand. Additionally, imagine this drink getting passed around four girls -- fighting to get in as many sips as possible. Kijitora deserves the hype it gets, and I look forward to ordering a cup for myself and not having shared custody over a drink the next time I visit! read more

We ordered the mango matcha and the red bean matcha lattes. I loved the mango, the red bean was grainy which is expected but it was over powering the matcha flavor. I'd give the red bean a 2/5 I didnt finish it but the mango matcha was so good. I would go back and try their other matchas. This place isnt busy as the other Kijitoras. read more

The cafe is so cute on the inside, but there aren't many places to sit. I love the cat theme. This was one of the best mango matchas Ive ever had. The mango puree was so sweet and fresh. The matcha was also great quality. This is one of my fave places and it deserves the hype. read more
(Black Sesame Latte: B) - I have been raving about Kijitora's black sesame latte for the last year now, so I had to come back and was surprised to find that they had two locations! I love the balance between the sweetness of the white chocolate, bitterness of the espresso, and the earthiness coming from the black sesame that makes this drink super exciting. Unlike the first time I had this, I felt like the flavors a bit diluted by the milk, so I feel like an extra shot of espresso with slightly more sugar and sesame to balance this out would be to die for. They also have picture perfect strawberry matcha lattes that I am quite eager to try! Nevertheless, I feel like their other location is slightly better as there is seating space as well. When looking for matcha spots in NYC, every single recommendation, TikTok, and (nearly all) locals pointed me to Kijitora in Brooklyn. Their gorgeous menu features tons of Asian inspired flavors like black seasame, azuki, shiso, miso, and more! They also carry cute cat trinkets and gifts from local artists (I scored the most adorable little cat pin). Originally, I had my sights set on their Mango Matcha Latte, but was told that it was a seasonal drink. Instead, I opted for their Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte with Wholy Milk. Wholy Milk is a plant-based milk made from cashews, dates, coconut, and hemp. So far, they're only in select NYC cafes, but they need to make it more acessible! It's too good to be gatekeeped! Onto the actually latte, it was so yummers! Definitely has my stamp of approval. The matcha was fragrant, strong, smooth, and oh-so-bright-green. The strawberry puree at the bottom was super fresh and made of real strawberries! Complimented the matcha quite well. And the MILK. So creamy. So good. Just slightly sweet. Just yes. We came early in the morning on the weekend and the store was not busy. It is a really small store front with only enough standing space for a few people and no seating. The service is quick and we all got the strawberry matcha. The matcha was premixed into a bottle and then the worker pours it into a container and remixes it. I think their matcha is good, but not the best matcha I've had, and not necessarily worth the price if they're not even making it on the spot. read more

I've been hearing Kijitora's name a lot recently, and finally made it out to Williamsburg to check them out. I thought I would go in for their famous strawberry matcha latte, but their seasonal menu really caught me by surprise-- roasted kabocha cardamom latte?? Chestnut matcha latte?? Ginger apple cider?? How many stomachs do I need because they all sound spectacular. I ended up settling on the chestnut matcha latte ($7), and it was the perfect touch of winter as the chestnut paste was not too sweet but added another layer of creaminess and smoothness to the matcha. Although the space was rather small, it was decked out with tons of miniatures of cats and the staff members are so incredibly nice. I'd definitely love to come back and try the rest of what they have to offer! read more

I got their seasonal chestnut latte (with espresso shot and almond milk). My sister and cousin got matcha one for the same chestnut latte but my goodness, this is probably the best matcha Ive ever had in NYC Not too sweet and the matcha flavor is really deep. Just as I like it. The only negative is that they do not have seating so you have to be mindful of that, if you want to chit chat with your friend :) but ill go back for their matcha latte read more
it's a cute little shop with lots of cat decor inside. there's a wide variety of drinks from matcha to coffee. i tried the strawberry matcha with whole milk (which is what they're known for) and it was good, not too sweet. i could tell that the matcha was very high quality from how green it was, so it definitely is on the pricier side. read more

Would not recommend for matcha. Influencers on Instagram and Tiktok have hyped this place up so much so I decided to give it a try, but the matcha was as watery/diluted as other chains. Paying $7+ for a matcha latte that tastes similar to Starbucks is laughable in this economy. I had high hopes considering the baristas are Japanese too, but everyday I come closer to giving up on finding good matcha in the US. Drink: 1/5 Service: 5/5, fast despite long line Atmosphere: 2/5, very cramped space with only one outdoor bench. Might as well function as a coffee stand. read more

It seems like Kijitora took over social media overnight and everyone started coming here for one of the best matcha lattes in NY ... and I can see why. The place is small, quaint, and super cute. They have an area for customers to browse and purchase small cat-themed trinkets and other stationary items. This makes waiting in line go by so much faster. The menu is also very unique offering specialty coffees and teas. If you're feeling a little adventurous, try something from their seasonal menu too. I love the variety and the details that goes into the creation. Not that they need another raving review, but their matcha lattes are solid - strong matcha flavor, with only a hint of bitterness, and mixed to a very nutty and creamy consistency. If you get a chance, highly recommend trying the Mango Matcha Latte--elevated with a sweet, fruity twist. The price is bit steep, but this is a good "treat myself" treat. read more
I've heard such great things about Kijitora and it did not disappoint! I usually get an iced matcha latte but this time I tried their peach tonic matcha and it was super tasty. It was perfectly balanced. Not too sweet but not bitter either. There was a line when I went but it moved quickly. The cafe is also super close to a bunch of cute stores so it's a perfect place to pick up your matcha then walk around and shop for an afternoon. read more

I am not sure if they make a matcha concentrate and use that for their drinks, but I did notice they had some in a bottle. The matcha was not as strong as I expected and was more on the milky side. On a Saturday night, this location wasn't very busy. My friend and I got our orders immediately. It looked like the staff was busy restocking or organizing. It was very much a take out location, but it was cozy with decor and the merchandise being sold lined against the wall. When I got my Chestnut Matcha, I was concerned with the small splash of matcha until I mixed the drink and saw the bright green of the matcha latte. My friend took a sip of the matcha and thought it tasted a lot like chestnut. I personally liked the unique Chestnut Matcha flavor. I tried a sip of the Strawberry Matcha and loved it. You can easily miss this small hole in the wall spot when walking by. Very cute vibe inside. I got the strawberry matcha which is what they are known for and it was incredible. The best matcha I've had honestly. Only downside is an oat milk strawberry matcha with run you over $9 before tip... please stop charging us extra for oat milk read more
