The inside is small but very quaint, the baristas are nice and super helpful on the preferences you may have. But the star of the show is definitely the matcha drinks themselves. The chocolate strawberry matcha was super good. The dark chocolate with the sweet strawberry was so good. And you can taste the matcha here!
((4.5 stars)) Matcha House is serene spot for matcha drinks and eats on a fairly quiet East Village block. the calm clean interior exuding a modern minimalist aesthetic gets a good amount of sunlight throughout the day. there's a fair amount of seating: a communal table and a couple of other smaller tables...space is limited as the matcha counter where the drinks are made is the star of the show. stopped by here for an iced matcha Americano (matcha + water + ice) recently on a warm day. nothing is pre-batched so you can watch your drink being made from start to finish which is sorta calming in its own way. the wait for drinks isn't too bad and imo it's worth it. really enjoyed the iced matcha here--deep bright green matcha, very clean light sweetness, and a nice richness with not too many bitter notes. to me, it's like tasting a cool Spring day in the country. staff are chill and fairly friendly. took my drink to go -- but this place would be a great place to catch your breath and enjoy some smooth green caffeine if a seat is available.
SERVICE - located in east village on a mostly residential street - small interior with one large table for seating - decor is modern and slightly industrial - good for takeaway - baristas are kind and make drinks quickly MENU - limited menu focused on variations of a matcha latte - plant based milks available - average price FOOD - matcha cortado with macadamia milk (8/10): similar to a coffee based cortado, this has the same amount of matcha as a latte but less milk which males the matcha flavor shine through more. If you like the bitterness of matcha but want a touch of creaminess, I would order this. The matcha layer is rich with a generous amount of matcha powder that has a vibrant green color and a strong earthy flavor. The macadamia milk does not add any unique flavor compared to almond milk but may be worth trying if you are curious. WOULD I GO BACK?
I went on a Saturday afternoon and the wait wasn't that long. It was very warm inside though, which wasn't too pleasant on a hot day. I ordered a matcha latte, but didn't enjoy it that much. The milk to matcha ratio wasn't great as I mainly tasted milk. To be honest, I enjoyed the mango mochi more.
My favorite matcha spot in the city - and that's a tall order given the many options out there. Their matcha cortado is fantastic - the perfect ratio of milk to matcha. I always get it slightly sweetened and it's perfect. My favorite speciality drink (bring it back please!!!) was their pina colada matcha. "Not too sweet" is really perfected here.

The shop itself is cute and there's a decent amount of seating. I think this place was on the pricier side for a drink that didn't 100% hit the spot for me.
We passed by after dinner one night so decided to stop by the next day since there were so many positive reviews on Yelp. I decided to order their strawberry matcha latte since I didn't just want matcha. The drink was refreshing but average at best, and I couldn't justify paying almost $10 for a mediocre drink. I believe it took them less than a few minutes to make. I understand the hype of matcha but at least try to make the drink more reasonably sized if they are going to charge that much.

I finally found a matcha house that serves matcha with the perfect tea-to-milk ratio. They serve matcha in three styles: Latte, Cortado, and Americano. If you usually find matcha lattes too milky like I do, go for the Cortado! They are currently using single origin matcha from Uji, which is actually my favorite one from their matcha tasting event earlier. Most importantly, Michelle and her team have poured so much thought and love into creating this community space, from the handmade matcha bowls to the decorating plants. ＊Matcha Cortado $6.5 ＊Matcha Latte $7 I personally really liked the cortado, which was apparently much stronger in matcha flavor as you can tell from the vibrant deep green. I could feel my heart race lol. You can choose from whole, oat, soy, almond, and lactose-free milk. We tried oat and lactose-free: the oat (they use Oatly Barista Edition) is creamier, while the lactose-free option (Fairlife) is highly recommended by the team as a great milk substitute. ＊Strawberry Cold Foam Matcha Latte $8.5 The strawberry foam blended with the matcha well so that it didn't overshadow the matcha. I could taste both elements in one sip. It was also subtly sweet, with a fresh strawberry flavor that shines through. ＊Strawberry Mochi (by Pavlo Mochi) $5.5 ＊Miso Pistachio Pound Cake (by Patisserie Fouet) $6.5 The light bites menu is small but thoughtfully curated. The mochi was super soft and squishy, while the miso and pistachio flavor combo was an unexpected surprise.

Semisweet cocoa flavor compliments well with the nutty profile of matcha then you get sweetness and tanginess of strawberry to bright out the refreshing note of matcha. Whoever craft this drink is a genius and can't wait to be back.
Matcha House is a small café with 2 small tables and one large table for seating. Menu is limited and focuses on variations of matcha lattes. I like how they incorporate some desserts from other shops. We ordered the: Dark chocolate strawberry matcha latte with uji matcha ($9.50) - matcha is prominent, but there is little strawberry and dark chocolate flavor. Elevated matcha at its finest. This place is a vibe and we happened to just walk by it and my feet walked me right in. I ordered this seasonal drink with coconut and a matcha foam top. It wasn't matcha matcha but it was for sure a really cool drink. Perfect for summer! Love how they make it in front of you and it's a whole experience. Taking the time to sit and relax is what makes this matcha experience THEEE experience in itself. Next time I go I'll for sure get a more matcha forward drink to enjoy. read more

Really great matcha taste. Would come back. Took them three tries to make the salted caramel matcha drink in our order so it took a second. Seems like they get very good business on weekends and they are a small store so it felt a little cramped but really enjoyed the taste of the matcha. Very friendly staff read more
This spot is easily my new go-to matcha spot in east village! The matcha I had was so creamy, subtly sweet, and not powdery. I got the matcha cold foam matcha latte, and the cold foam was so worth it! The cup was pretty large, and they do not skimp on the cold foam! The staff were so friendly and willing to help out. I loved the clean interior and the seating. There is one large table, and several smaller tables on the side. It was pretty crowded when I went on a Saturday afternoon. read more
This was only my second visit to Matcha House, but both times have been excellent. The first time I had the Matcha Latte (Single Origin) and today I tried the Matcha Cold Foam Matcha Latte both were smooth, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You can really taste the quality of the matcha. The shop itself is small but very clean and well-kept, with a calm, chill vibe. The staff are friendly and make the experience even better. Even with just two visits, I can already tell this is a spot I'll be coming back to whenever I'm in the area. Highly recommend if you're a matcha fan or just curious to try something refreshing and well made. read more

This place is so good! You can tell they use high quality matcha and the mochi is amazing. Better than most mochi i've had in japan tbh - telling you, nyc water is magic, its why we have good pizza and bagels. The matcha isn't sweet at all which i don't mind cause you can add sweetener at the counter to your liking read more
tried the matchadamia latte, I couldn't tell if the nuttiness was mainly from the macadamia milk or the matcha. it was good, the matcha is more light and naturally sweet vs. an earthy, umami flavor, so depends on your personal preference read more
I went yesterday, but found myself back around Matcha House again today... and I have no regrets! Matcha House is the new matcha spot in East Village. With a minimalistic interior and streamlined menu, they focus on what they do best --matcha. Yesterday, I got their daily special: the matcha cold foam matcha latte, which was surprisingly smooth, creamy, while not being too bitter or sweet! Today, I tried their daily special, which was the earl grey cold foam matcha latte, which was such a good combo! The earl grey didn't overpower or drown out the matcha at all, and the two flavors complimented each other well. There's agave on the counter for those who like their matcha sweeter, but they've nailed their sweetness ratio in my opinion. Another thing to keep in mind is that there's a good amount of seating, which is laptop friendly, but I don't think there's a bathroom. I'll definitely be back! I'm curious to see what other daily specials they have to offer in the future. I'm just happy that there's another solid matcha spot I can go to, that's a small business too! read more

Stumbled upon this place in the East Village during their soft opening. They were only serving one drink (I think their signature one?), an iced Earl Grey matcha latte, as well as a small selection of mochi. I ordered just the drink, and it was fantastic. I'm used to Early Grey lattes tasting mostly just like milk, but this one had a really nice strong Earl Grey flavor and worked well with the matcha. It was the right level of sweetness, and although the barista did offer to make it sweeter, I think it was perfect as is. They whisk the matcha right in front of you as you're waiting for the drink and obviously put care into the order. The inside was small but very nicely decorated with tons of plants and nice ceramic matcha bowls. Great addition to the neighborhood and looking forward to returning when they have their expanded menu! I'll definitely be getting the Earl Grey again too. read more

A friend recommended this spot as a great place to get matcha, and I can totally see why. The space inside is small, but it's nicely decorated and there's a long table where you can sit and enjoy your drink. I got an iced matcha latte (single origin yame) with oat milk to go, and it was sooo good. I don't love sweetness in my matcha drinks because I prefer the creamy original flavor, and this one was awesome. I definitely felt the caffeine with this too. The servers were really nice and it was fun seeing them prepare the drinks! read more

A nice and peaceful little cafe to spend some time enjoying a good matcha latte. It's not a huge space (I wanna say about 12-14 seats) but my partner and I managed to get spots at the big communal table on a Saturday evening about half an hour before they closed. I got the matchadamia latte which had a unique and enjoyable flavor. This was a nice way to enjoy a break in our day and kill time before dinner. read more

I'm impressed with their matcha drinks and think that they are top 3 for me in NYC?! They offer different types of matcha with different types of milk, as well as some specialty/seasonal drinks. Started off with the Matcha Cold Foam Matcha Latte which was very tasty! Their matcha flavors were strong and mixed very well with the milk. Their cold foam wasn't too matcha-y but did have a subtle sweetness and fluffy creaminess that went well with the drink. The Matchadamia features macadamia milk which gave the drink a special nuttiness and creaminess that you don't get with your typical oat, soy, or almond milk. For both drinks, I like how they use a little bit if sweetner just to balance out the bitterness of the matcha, but not too much and super appropriate! Staff were nice and patient. Lines formed quickly but also moved fast. There is some seating around their big wooden tables. Laptops were welcomed over the weekend but not sure if they have wifi. Definitely want to come back to try other matcha!!!! read more
I came here after seeing a video online and Matcha House wasn't it for me. I had the Matcha Cortado and I felt like I was being scammed in broad daylight. I was hoping that for a smaller pup cup size that it would be a higher level of intensity for the matcha. The matcha flavor wasn't potent enough and the milk was not helping. For the price, size, and taste, I would not come back. It's a cute shop but I'm there for the drinks. read more

very solid matcha. london fog matcha latte - earl grey cold foam was decent, but wish the earl grey flavor was a little stronger. not too sweet or heavy so i rly liked it matcha cold foam matcha latte - their take on a double matcha. the matcha taste in this one was def stronger than the earl gray one. not the strongest i've tasted but very solid for sure interior is cute but pretty small read more
One of the best matches I've had in the city! You can really taste the earthiness and bitterness of the matcha. My drink was not overly sweet which I appreciated. They make each drink to order and you get a front row seat on how each drink is prepared and how the matcha is sifted, whisked with hot water, and poured into each cup. They also have matcha bowls and machines for sale too. It is a tight space with a few tables but it can get pretty crowded fast so I would recommend getting your drink to go. Service was super nice and friendly. Be patient and then be rewarded with an amazing beverage! read more
