I prefer a stronger and fragrant matcha, so unfortunately Kijitora wasn't it for me. I ordered an iced matcha Latte but the drink was more milky so it washed out the matcha. There's a decent amount of seating if you're looking to sit and take a break, and a nice selection of trinkets and Kijitora-themed merch to browse while you're there.
SERVICE - located on 14th st and ave b - very quaint interior with limited seating - only two baristas who are also taking orders so service can be slower - ambiance good for casual meet up or for working MENU - coffee and matcha with seasonal specials - plant based milk alternatives available for extra charge - average price FOOD - kinako mochi matcha latte (7/10): hot matcha latte with roasted soy powder and Japanese black sugar topped with mini mochi. This was the seasonal drink for the winter. I got it hot with soy milk. The kinako adds a comforting nutty flavor that almost makes it feel like a porridge but as a drink. Even though it had black sugar it tasted more like caramel with a slight note of bitterness from the matcha. The addition of the mochi on the top was cute and fun. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! They have more fun drinks that still embrace East Asian flavors.
Small shop with not a lot of seating. The line might look long but it moves quickly. I only drank the hojicha so that's what this rating will be on. The hojicha latte costs 75 cents more if you get iced so that was nice. The hojicha itself wasn't very nutty and deep but rather a little lackluster and grainy. For an $8 drink, I just need more to it. Not to mention, it'll stay on ur lips for the longest time and stain them.

Super tasty matcha with the perfect level of sweetness. I really enjoyed both the Strawberry Matcha and the Mango Matcha Latte. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for a matcha fix!
I found this matcha to be very bland and milky. I paid $8 for an almond milk iced matcha with 50% sweetener. You're charged for ice and alternative milk but otherwise it's $6. I didn't end up finishing it. I do think this place has potential. I'm not sure if it's the ratio of matcha to milk or the quality of the matcha that they're using but it wasn't great. The matcha is also prepared in batches.
The mango matcha was to die for. It was pretty thick because of the mango puree but I was scared that it would be too sweet and it wasn't. The shop itself its pretty small and has very limited seating but on a Monday morning there was no wait and lots of seating available. Service was speedy the drinks were out in a minute. I would love to go back and try the strawberry matcha.
On the quest for the best matcha in NY and my friend recommended this place (and saw this on Tik Tok, so I HAD to stop by). Went on a Friday around 9AM, and there was a little line, nothing too crazy. The servers were very nice and the inside is cute (definitely no frills). Got the iced strawberry matcha latte with oat milk - it was very sweet. The strawberry syrup tasted fresh but definitely drank on the sweeter side, that's alright! Anytime you add some fun fruit into matcha, what else would you expect :) If you want more of a sweet treat, definitely get this.

I've been to one of the locations in Brooklyn and it was pretty good so I was excited to see this pop up so close to me in the city. I'm sad I didn't get the regular cat cup - they must've ran out and it was just regular cups. I got the mango matcha iced latte and something about the temperature was just off. The mango purée is on the bottom and after you work hard to mix it up, the whole drink becomes a smoothie. ($9) The tuna mayo rice ball was decently sized - pretty much rice with canned tuna and mayonnaise. ($4). No cat grilled cheese here - I think I'll come back to try it one more time and I hate to say it but nothing is really setting this location apart from matcha places in the city.

It was a lot of red bean which made the drink quite thick and hard to drink. Not sure i tasted a lot of matcha but i like red bean so wasnt too mad lol
Matcha latte was great, probably one of my favorites in the city. However, inside there was basically no seating, maybe like 6 seats total. Definitely more of a grab and go place. They do have Wifi: KIJITORA_guest, Password: kuromame. Service was pretty quick.
Great matcha shop, although this location is tiny with just a couple small tables. I ordered the Iced Hojicha ($5.75), which was superb. I loved how strong the flavor of hojicha is --much better than any other spot I've had it. They also have many adorable cat merchandise from totes to stickers as well. read more
As very highly recommended by so many people, I had to give it a try! We went on a Saturday morning, and it was about a 15 minute wait. Line was just right outside the door. We tried the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk and regular matcha latte with whole milk. They were really good, and the matcha flavor was strong in both! I definitely liked the strawberry matcha latte better though for a couple reasons: 1) the strawberry syrup added the perfect hint of sweetness to the matcha, 2) I like the taste of oat milk a lot more than whole milk with matcha, and 3) I just love a goood strawberry matcha. I want to come back to try the mango and red bean matcha lattes! read more
My first time at Kijitora was at the Brooklyn location, so I was excited to see they opened up in the LES. Sadly, the matcha here is a sad husk of what I experienced at the Brooklyn Kijitora. The strawberry syrup felt a little watered down and wasn't very sweet at all, I would recommend asking for extra sweetener next time. Keep in mind that the syrups here are not strained so you get a lot of seeds at any point while sipping. I will say that their syrup definitely tastes like the actual fruit so that's a bonus here! Make sure to stir and shake the drink aggressively before sipping to ensure the syrup gets evenly distributed throughout your drink. The mango matcha was the better drink here. There was a good amount of mango seed fibers in every other sip, but the sweetness level was better in this drink compared to the strawberry. The service was 5/5 though all the staff seemed very sweet and on top of the incoming orders on a busy afternoon. Not sure of the bathroom situation but I don't think I saw one inside... could be wrong though. read more

So glad I was able to try this place in the East Village! I loved the aesthetics of the mini-shelf displayed in their shop and the diversity of their menu including coffee and matcha drinks. My friend and i eventually settled on their Mango Matcha Latte and Strawberry Matcha Latte, which we didn't have to wait too long in line for on a weekend morning. Our drinks were aesthetic and colorful, with the orange/yellow mango and red strawberry colors popping out! My Strawberry Matcha Latte tasted fresh, and I appreciate the even blend of flavors of both strawberry and matcha. The texture of the strawberry puree was a bit rough, but the matcha part was smooth. I'd love to try their other non-matcha drinks and visit their Brooklyn location in the future! read more

Simply put, Kijitora serves some of the best matcha in NYC. This eclectic cafe offers light bites, coffee, and great matcha, all wrapped in a fun cat-themed concept. If you're visiting specifically for matcha, the strawberry or mango matcha latte are must-orders. You can't go wrong with either as the fruit puree pairs beautifully with the matchas depth and balance. The mango matcha latte did seem slightly thicker in texture, but both drinks remained exceptional. I was very tempted to purchase their matcha to recreate the drinks at home, though that will have to wait until my next visit. The matcha was so good I visited this second location closer to the city! If you're looking for a cute cafe that truly excels at matcha, Kijitora is well worth visiting! read more

Cute cafe in the east village! Fast service and some seating inside. Got the seasonal sakura matcha latte with oat milk and coconut condensed milk and it was a perfectly subtle floral flavor. The matcha flavor wasn't super strong but the drink itself is still good. Would come again! read more

Had Kijitora (Brooklyn location) bookmarked for a while so I was so happy to hear they opened one in Manhanttan! Loved the variety of their coffee and matcha drinks and ultimately decided to try their original matcha latte, red bean matcha latte, and dirty black sesame latte. The matcha latte was smooth and well mixed; it struck a nice balance between being too creamy or too watery. Matcha flavors were good but wish they were a little more prominent (compared to other matcha places around town). You have the option to sweeten your drink. The base of the red bean matcha reminded me of the Cantonese red bean ice drink 红豆冰 - blended red bean with milk. They add matcha to it, which nicely complimented the sweet red bean flavors!! Be sure to give it a good mix to get the best ratio of ingredients tho!! The dirty black sesame was probably my favorite out of the three! Their black sesame paste is so refined that it mixes and suspends nicely in the coffee. It has a very fragrant nutty flavor from the grind up sesame. The salmon onigiri featured tender and well seasoned fish. The beef had nice sukiyaki flavors but I still preferred the salmon. Appreciated how they heated it up for us. The store has a decent amount of seating as well as a bench outside. The cat and matcha merch are super cute. Shoutout to their sustainable straws! I look forward to coming back to check out their other drinks and snacks! read more

(cafe hopping while I was in nyc for a week) I walked a longgg way to get here, had to cross it off my list since I saw good reviews/recommendations & can say it was worth trying! ordered an iced mango matcha latte and miso salmon onigiri. latte was definitely on the sweeter side, but I liked the mango syrup a lot. the matcha itself was yum, nothing bad about it but also not outstanding in flavor. onigiri immediately fell apart on me but was still of great value & a solid option when in need of a small bite. a very small, cozy space, I was lucky to grab an empty table to briefly recharge. worker who took my order was very kind. read more

My friends wanted to try Kijitora for their matcha on our last day. We went to their newest location in east village early to start off our day. We were expecting a long wait but there was no line at all. I got a regular matcha latte with agave as my sweetener and my friend both got a strawberry matcha latte. The color of the matcha looked pretty promising, it was a pretty dark green color. However, we all thought our drinks were just ok. The matcha is a little weak and it tastes more on the milky side. They also used these paper like straws and the lid bent it over time so the flow was also restricted when I took a sip. We were all disappointed and didn't think it was worth it read more

Kijitora is finally in Manhattan! The quality is just as good as in Brooklyn's locations. The strawberry matcha latte is still my favorite, but I also tried the mango matcha latte and enjoyed it. Mix well, and you will get a creamy matcha flavor perfectly blended with the sweet fruit flavor. There is very little seating inside. The staff are friendly. read more

So excited to see that Kijitora opened up in the East Village! I've had their Brooklyn locations bookmarked for the longest time but timing never worked out. I ordered their iced strawberry matcha latte with soy milk and it was a tasty and refreshing drink for a hot summer day. The strawberry puree was fresh and paired well with the matcha. Make sure you mix it well, otherwise you'll likely be sipping on the strawberry puree and won't be tasting the matcha itself. There's also wifi and some seating available. Can't wait to come back to try out their other drinks. read more
This is a very highly recommended Matcha place claiming to have the best strawberry Matcha latte. There are a couple locations but the newest and closest location if you're saying in central New York is this location. It is very small inside. This location has very limited seating, so if you're trying to get work done or need space I feel like this wouldn't be the place to go. They do have a pretty wide variety of menu offerings and I had even seen some seasonal offerings. Prices are definitely higher than the average you're looking about paying $9 for a regular standard Matcha. One thing I will give them is that the quality is super good. You can tell the Matcha used is good and what stood out to me was the strawberry purée. It was fresh tasting and naturally made. You can even see the seeds from the strawberry at the bottom of the drink and there's no artificial pink color to it. this wouldn't be my go to Macha place considering the price but for a good quality sweet pick me up. The store is cute with cat themed things here and there. The service was very easy and the drink came out super quick. The matcha is pretty good and the strawberry blended very well with it. I like my matchas sweetened so it was a nice touch. They also hv a small bar with extra sugar and syrup for people to adjust their drinks and they have seating which isn't very common in cafes in ny read more

Great matcha! It's just the same as the Brooklyn location on Driggs. Staff were super friendly and wonderful, especially given the busy soft opening. They have a Matcha Peach Fizz right special that's very refreshing! read more
