A super convenient location with lots of free parking and the food is pretty good. More often I am hearing people say they don't want to be in Chinatown. So when Kevin's popped up outside of Chinatown, I was excited to try it with fellow Elite Yelper Li Y. She ordered the lobster special, shoyu chicken, and a crispy noodle dish. All items were tasty, thank you Li :) After that first experience with yummy food and great customer service, I went back to dine in and brought the entire family. We are grateful for the large table that could seat all 10 of us! As you can see from the pictures, our family dinner was incredible. I met my No CA Canto boys on O'ahu, and they craved Chinese food. Kevin's was highly recommended, and offered many Canto items they are familiar with. We had shrimp, salt & pepper pork chops, pork belly, beef claypot, mapo tofu and ong choi (not all items pictured). All of the food came out quickly and tasted good. None of my friends complained. Our waiter was cool and accommodated 6 of us, despite a couple of table rounds taking up most of his time. The ambiance is nothing special, but they do offer fresh seafood. However, the prices were too high for us (i.e., Dungeness crab $96). I'd definitely return to Kevin's. Its not in the heart of Chinatown, so parking is adjacent. (Side note- the restroom is nearby outside to the left, get the key from the staff before you head out.) Their roast duck is fabulous - the highlight of the dinner, for sure. Located in the same parking lot across of Beretania Times supermarket and the same side as Graces Drive inn. Lots of parking The clams with black bean sauce were very good and fresh and tasty. The dried beef chow fun was okay we had better tasting dried beef chow fun at other restaurants. The cold Ginger chicken was good and the tasty and ginger sauce was great, we had to ask for more to finish off the rest of the chicken. The pot stickers also was tasty and flavorful, it came with a red vinegar sauce, on the sweeter side, which I didn't care for the sauce and use the mustard instead, but the pot stickers was really good. I was excited to try this new restaurant. Tried numerous times when they first opened but it was too busy. Tried to call for take out once but they were closed that day (it was a Tuesday evening). Finally was able to pick up for Sunday lunch. Was very surprised to see the restaurant only had 3 tables of customers at 1pm and the roast meats were still full. We ordered 6 dishes. Im sad that they all, except the noodles, came in small take out containers. Portion sizes are getting so small now. Fish filet with sweet and sour sauce $18.95 - I liked it! Good size fish pieces. I love sweet and sour sauce. Actually not too saucy. Could use more bell peppers because there was only a few pieces. Baked pork chop with salt and pepper $16.95 - very different when it's baked. Doesn't have the same crisp to it. Needed more seasoning too. Guess healthier. Beef chow fun $11.95 - good deal. But the noodles were thin and plain. Other places add more ingredients like sprouts, beef, and green onions. I love noodles so glad there was so much, but I like fresh noodles. These did not have the fresh chew. Beef with ginger and green onion $15.95 - would not order this again Char siu $16 or $17/lb - it had a different flavor to it. Not fatty. But different than what im used to. Slight sweetness. But ok. Roast pork $16 or $17/lb - also not fatty. Crispy. But not juicy. No wow factor. Like it was just brined in salt water. But ok to eat. Initial employee was friendly when we entered. I'm beginning to settle into my favorite dishes here after multiple visits for take out and dine in. And have bought multiple shoyu chicken to share with others. It's embarrassing, James and Kevin (brothers and co-owners) now recognize me as a "regular". I have directed them to start calling me "Aunty" lol. It's an all in the family business as Father can regularly be found behind the chopping board busy cutting up roast meats for dine in AND heavy takeout traffic. And "Aunty Li" (mother to Kevin and James) pulls relief chopping, cashiering, serving, all around assistant duties. What I love at Kevin's Kitchen: roast duck and shoyu chicken from the bbq station, Singapore and traditional chow maifun, beef chow fun, lobster (or oyster) ginger onion... and as I try more dishes am sure the list will continue to grow. Also appreciate the always stellar service from the Lee family and associates. The restaurant is not very big. Always noisy (though a few hanging potted plants should help to absorb some of the sound); what you would expect from a vibrant and successful neighborhood Chinese restaurant. If you don't like the busy environment... can do takeout which is easy as parking is plentiful and easy. Sharing parking with Times Market, Epi-ya, and Grace's Drive Inn... there is always someone pulling out of a space... and more empty spaces on the side and back lot. Kevin's Kitchen, is 3rd or 4th business to take over this spot but my opinion, I am happy for this! Heard they are the owners of the Harbor Village in Hawaii Kai and who is Kevin, ? I wonder this while enjoying our lunch, so I asked one of the staff, Kevin is the cook & owner! The restaurant is nice, clean and bright! Roasted meats are located in the back of restaurant if you like to check it out for take out. I am glad that I made a spontaneous decision to dine here instead of my previous plans, lunch on a Thursday in July after 1 pm and they were still busy at this time, it took awhile for the wait staff to come get our order and get us our requested items but all good, they are short staffed and busy! I am glad to see that they have lunch special options available from 9-2pm daily. We ended up with a few items from the lunch menu. For our party of 4, we ordered: Thai-style tossed meat rice- $13.95 Singapore style rice noodle- $11.95 Roast duck lunch bento- $13.00 Half shoyu chicken -$9.00 Seafood noodles, sub for cake noodle - $18.95 +$1.50 & one lb roast pork for take out, but ate few pieces while dining in . I was seriously craving roast duck and shoyu chicken today. My usual go-to spot in the area is Sandy's, but I decided to give Kevin's Kitchen another shot. I had been there once before for dinner -- it was okay, but I was pretty disappointed last time because they were out of duck. This time, I played it safe and called ahead to place an order for half duck, half chicken plate. When I arrived (about 10 minutes early), I went up to the counter to check on the order. They got to work on it right away -- scooping the rice and having one of the staff cut the meats. The timing worked out perfectly because I was starving, and I always eat lunch around the same time on weekdays, so I appreciated the quick turnaround. Now, let's talk food. Presentation? Meh. As you can see, it's not winning any beauty contests. But honestly, sometimes the messy-looking stuff tastes the best -- and that was definitely the case here. The rice wasn't my favorite -- kind of dry and a bit rough. They gave a lot of rice as well, couldn't finish it all. I also wish I got better cuts of the duck; I ended up with a few not-so-great pieces, which is a little disappointing. That said, the flavor was on point. The duck was really tasty, and the chicken was soft, tender, and flavorful. They pour the sauce on top (so don't expect it on the side), and it works. You also get three pieces of choy sum, which is a nice touch. For the price, it's hard to complain. ($15 for bento of two choices) I'd come back again -- it's pretty solid. Have visited twice now and the location is great because there's a decent sized parking lot in the back. So far I've tried the roast duck, char siu, bbq pork fried rice, mapo tofu, and spicy garlic eggplant. The char siu alone is worth coming to try this place out. Has a really nice crunch and slightly sweet glaze on top which I haven't ever had before. I think the mapo tofu is a different style than I'm used to because it wasn't spicy at all. I think I would've really loved it if it had been spicy because the other flavors were good. The duck was also pretty good but would've been nice if there was a little more meat in the duck. Definitely worth coming to try this place out and the family working there was all very friendly. My only critique is that if you dine in just be aware that one style of table has this issue where the bar under the edge of the table is quite low and there's not a lot of space for your legs between the underside of the table and the chair seat. My husband's legs were pretty squished and couldn't really move them. Mine just barely fit but I had no room to cross my legs which made it a bit uncomfortable to dine in. I'm a big fan of this spot--had it for the first time to-go and we had to go back and have it fresh! Char siu: This is the best--extremely flavorful and the cuts are just right; not too lean and not too fatty. It's really hard to find such a perfect balance of flavor and quality in char siu, but Kevin's Kitchen makes it right. Crispy skin roast pork: Tender, flavorful, and oh-so-savory with that perfectly crispy skin. Another stellar dish that is made to classic perfection. Roast duck: I had this when it was a bit cold already, but like all their other roasted specialties, this was also full of flavor and very tender to eat. I'm pretty sure that if I had this fresh, the skin would still be slightly crisp. Beef chow fun: I've had beef chow fun with more wok hei, but this can still hold its own and I can see my dad enjoying this (beef chow fun is his fave dish). The chunks of beef are tender and each noodle has been imbued with flavor. Singapore noodle: This is my husband's favorite dish, and it did not disappoint. The ratio of toppings to noodles was perfect, the curry taste was light yet present, and it was the perfect accompaniment to all of our other dishes. My dad has mentioned Kevin's Kitchen to me for quite some time but I've been extremely busy so I didn't have a chance to take him there. His friends have been talking about this new restaurant so he's been patiently waiting. Thankfully some Yeep friends have been there and were able to provide me honest thoughts about the restaurant. Thanks Paul C, Craig T and Fran C! Kevin's Kitchen is located in the same lot as Times on Beretania St. next to Epi-Ya Bakery. Word on the street is that the owner has affiliation with Harbor Village Cuisine at Koko Marina Center. When you enter, you'll notice a clean dining room. It is a lot more functional than when it was Eat on Time. The place was half full with lots of Chinese people and there was a lot of parties waiting for take out. Prices are very customer friendly with their special lunch plates. Based on what other Yeeps told me, I came with lower expectations and knew what to order. We ordered their Roast Duck, Shoyu Chicken, Char Siu and Singapore Style Rice Noodles to share. Normally I never order Singapore Rice Noodles but Paul C said it was the best dish he had when he dined there with Yeeps so I wanted to give it a try. I heard a lot about the customer service but we experienced excellent customer service while dining in. Maybe because I spoke Chinese to them? Not sure as it seemed like all the tables received good customer service. It was busy so it did take a minute to get seated but they took our order quickly and we received our tea shortly after we ordered. The BBQ meats came out first but it took awhile before we got our Singapore Rice Noodles. It was busy so the kitchen was probably slammed and they were working as quickly as they could. The Roast Duck offers more meat than most other places offering this menu item. Granted the flavor isn't as profound but you can add sauce to Roast Duck but you can't add more meat. Their Shoyu Chicken was velvety and flavorful. Some parts offered very little meat but for the most part, it was good. The Char Siu was good but not the best I had. I was never a huge fan of Singapore Style Rice Noodles so it was about average for me. Also, it only had like 4-5 very small shrimp in the entire dish. Such a nice homey cantonese style family restaurant. Most of the tables here are for four or more. I went on a weekday lunch time where all the tables were filled and most were lrge parties that looked like families. Because there were only 2 of us we only ordered 2 dishes but there were so many thongs on the menu we wished we could try. To be safe we went off the lunch menu. We had the roasted duck charsiu combo and wonton noodle soup. I really enjoyed the meat choices here. Its flavorful and enjoyable. The meat with the sauce they put over it is insane! We were getting shopping in Times and saw that Kevin's Kevin was packed. We went back another day and saw the restaurant was still packed and wanted to try it out on another day. We went after during off lunch hours. The restaurant is still open between 2-4pm. The dinner menu is available all day and the lunch specials are only available in the morning until 2pm. Salt and pepper pork chops: The pork chops were cut in half. The quantity looks quite little but for a party of 2 or 3 people I think it is enough. The pork chops were thick and soft. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The flavor is pretty good. I wished there were more of the garlic, green onions, pepper on top. The toppings were pretty scarce. Half order roast duck: The roast duck was good. The duck was meaty and juicy. The flavor was good and they already poured the duck sauce over it. Specialty broth 1LB lobster with noodles: The lobster was what you expect for 1 LB. It was small but it was enough for 1-2 people. We requested for noodles with the lobster which is an additional charge. When this dish was brought out, there was a very generous amount of noodles. The specialty sauce was very good. It wasn't salty and it was rich. There was a good amount to cover all the lobster and noodles. I love how the noodles absorbed the sauce. Very flavorful. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. Service was very friendly. Our server was helpful and gives good recommendations. During lunch it seems less busy. Dinner time they are packed from what we seen so far. The only thing I do hope they improve is the ventilation. It was a little warm in there and the after-smell of the cooking was pretty strong when we walked in. We came in the late afternoon to beat the rush. Definitely family operated. The place is clean and he people are very nice. The man who waited on us was attentive and took great care of us. The food was good. I came here specifically for the Peking Duck. A process that is labor intensive and takes time. Which is why restaurants can charge more than a typical Cantonese roasted duck. Some may k ow that Peking Duck uses air to separate the skin from the meat allowing it to be more crispy. The focus is on crispy skin. The duck came out on a single plate with the skin removed and place in each bun. The buns were soft and tasty. They had already swabbed the bun with their sauce. None on the side. And we're a little light on the onion portion. My preference is to add my own sauce and have sufficient spring onions. Neither was the case for this dish. The duck was not hot. The meat was a little tough. Altogether I have had better. Of course this isn't San Francisco or a New York City china town. My wife had the kung Pao chicken. A solid choice when in doubt. Being a state holiday today and some of us yelpers were off we decided to check out this new Chinese restaurant take out by epi ya bakery and times Supermarket beretania area. This place was opened about a month now so we all said we're gamed let check them out. The inside was renovated brighter new paint job and seems like more staff were available. Hostess to sit you down a guy came took orders and another lady were bringing the water, tea, etc. Taking away the Dirty dishes away. The food was OK and I guess the service did improve from the last time of their grand opening where people were yelping or posting about certain things. Not your typical kitchen... After seeing the various food pics tonight I was on my own for dinner and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to see what's cooking at Kevin's which is located right in the heart of S.Beretania besides Time's Supermarket so finding parking is easy...easier than making the decision of what to have. Walking in to this cozy spot I see they've tried to fit as much large tables so it just felt really cramped and didn't really feel that comfortable amongst so many diners so close together which is a good thing that I was ordering a take out and before I could even pick up a menu a staff walked over to greet me and told him that I'd like to order take out and was ready to take my order writing it on his hand lol! It had to be their Beef Chow Fun with Black Bean Sauce though after paying and putting the order in he later informed me that they just sold their last order and was sold out...sob! He was very apologetic and suggested their Shanghai Style Fried Noodle which I know comes standard with shrimp and told him that it's an allergy issue and says that they can replace it with meat which is nice since I rarely get to enjoy it since it comes with shrimp and it had just the right amount of curry along with bean sprouts, onion and try-colored peppers all cooked tender and not raw made it so easy to enjoy it all and I sure did as it did have a kick of spice so it didn't need any other hot sauce. Though it did have a chili icon it didn't say shrimp for those who don't know did concern me which I always have to ask questions but did enjoy it all and the staff was nice and friendly who took great care of me. Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii... Lunch Specials at Kevin's Kitchen are really a great deal. The challenge is the service. On my first visit, I motioned to the receptionist that it's just me (party of one). She signaled to sit anywhere (because the place was semi-empty) and then set the table for 4 people... LOL! I told her that I wanted a wonton min. Then, I waited. Other staff came, gave me a pot of tea, and removed two of the place settings. Other customers arrived and ordered. When they got their meals, I asked about mine. Gosh... I think I sat for about half an hour and they didn't wonder about my order? At least i knew my wonton min was fresh when it arrived about15 minutes later! There wasn't a whole shrimp in each dumpling... the shrimp was chopped up and mixed into the pork. The noodles were the thick type... not the thin Hong Kong style. Meh. I wanted to make sure that they noodles weren't a mistake, so I went back a couple of days later with my dentist - to get a second opinion. Yes - she agreed that the food is good - especially the Lunch Specials! We got the roast duck plate - yummy! And - she agreed that the service could improve. She had to ask three times for a pot of tea! We don't know if it's a communication issue? Maybe because English is the second language? Or is it a lack of training to remember customer requests? My second visit here brings more familiar tastes. Kevin's Kitchen is still only a little more than two weeks old, and the food was more better than their first day. I feel this place has become suddenly very popular than what they imagined as they've been getting a lot of big party reservations, and the restaurant has revised its hours with Tuesday closed and from 2-4pm, only the roast meat counter is open while the kitchen is closed for preparations. We came on a Sunday evening, and it was a full house the entire time I was there with 3 big parties. We had to wait about 20 minutes, which wasn't that bad at all. Everyone working there was super busy, but the food came out at a very good pace, and the servers were still being attentive and accommodating, and providing excellent service with a friendly demeanor. Started with the Seafood and Fish Maw Soup. This was packed with fish maw. The soup was tasty and had a very nice consistency. Add red vinegar and white pepper for a better experience! The Honey Roasted Pork was very good! The meat was tender, tasty, and flavorful. Very spot on! The Fried Stuffed Tofu with Minced Shrimp was one of our favorites from Harbor Village Cuisine, and it's still as good now--perhaps even better. Tofu was nicely seasoned, battered, and fried to a nice crisp with a good amount of minced shrimp. The accompanying sauce was very good. Savory, salty with a little spice. The Chinese Broccoli was excellent. Well prepared with solid garlic flavor. Beef Brisket and Bean Curd Hotpot was very good. Really good flavor with tender and tasty brisket and tendon. It looked a little bit low in the pot, but it had a very good amount of meat. Maybe need more Chinese Cabbage at the bottom? The Chicken with Wine and Garlic hotpot was really good. Tender and flavorful chopped chicken with just scorched onions and bell peppers that were still crunchy. Very spot on! Lastly, the Beef Chow Funn with Vegetables was good. Light, skinny, tender chow funn noodles (Lam's Kitchen-like) that had a good amount of sauce and a generous number of toppings with tender beef, straw mushrooms, choy sum, carrots, and etc. Overall, solid experience. The food was very good, very well-prepared. The tastes and flavors were spot on with nothing overly salty or light. Even with the restaurant super busy, all the servers were still attentive and friendly. I was excited to try this new Cantonese restaurant next to Times and Epi-ya bakery on Beretania because the family had gone the night before and wanted to go again the next day for lunch. There are special dishes that must be ordered a day ahead so they couldn't get them the previous night. The place was packed and while the help was friendly, there wasn't enough. Good thing we had reservations and they sat 10 of us at a big round table. They had other tables for smaller parties. Service was slow so we decided to stand up several times to help get our teapots refilled and request for water again. The most disappointing part was that the braised duck we ordered a day in advance was not ready. I guess they are still working out their flow. Despite these opening foibles, we did enjoy the food. Soup, seafood cake noodle ( crispy on the outside), and eggplant were all good. The star was the Li Yuan House Special, a delicious stir fry of unidentifiable chive like greens, salted shrimp, and squid legs. Love trying new dishes! Short and sweet, the food is very tasty! Service is pretty good. Ask and they bring it to you in a timely manner. Restaurant tends to get very crowded, so make sure you have a reservation. Reasonably priced, We enjoy Kevin's and Will be back for more meals. read more

I've only done takeout. Char Siu is good! Nice balance between fat and meat. They will put sauce on it unless you tell them otherwise. Roast pork: I like it because it is less salty. It does have more fat than I'm used to. First time, skin was not super crispy. Second time, skin was crispy but not so hard that it is difficult to bite through like many of the others. If you ask for 1 pound, you get 1 pound, not 1.1 pounds. I would actually prefer if I paid by weight, so that I get the ends of the meat also, especially the char siu. Parking was easy and free. Living kitchen is really good for take out Chinese specialties. Eat in suffers from all the same problems that many other Chinese restaurants have. The food ranges from really good to puzzling. Shrimp is always delicious, well cooked and never tough. Meanwhile the roast duck came cold. Everyone is busy and working very hard but that causes mistakes like forgotten orders each time. One server even loaded the tea pot with his bare hand because he couldn't find the scooper. Plenty free parking. Still recommend take out though. read more

This is new Chinese restaurant and open a few months in Honolulu and the name is Kevin's kitchen . Someone said the roasted duck and roasted pork is good, so I go to buy something to try. . The roasted duck is $42 each and $21 half. The roasted pork is $18.50 LB and char siu is $17.5 LB. I bought a half roasted duck, one pound roasted pork and one pound char siu, The waitress put the box with the roasted pork and char siu together on the weight, do you know that these boxes is cost around $2 each by the food prices. They should remove the boxes before weighting in. When I got home, I opened the box and saw that a lot of the char siu was charred. Those charred black parts were simply inedible. Why the person who cut the char siu didn't cut off those black parts Those food tastes were fine, but I drank a lot of water after I ate them. We came here from a recommendation. This is a legit canto food place. We for the bbq pork (char siu) and roast duck lunch special. It was yummy yum yum. The beef chow fun is food not greasy and has the pan fried taste. That was 11.95 on the lunch special. Also the chicken and salted fried rice was fried perfectly not greasy and enough flavor of the salted fish. We Willl come back here for sure! The service was excellent too! read more

The Chinese food is alright. The portion is ok, just enough to feed 2-3 people per dish but not enough for left overs. The location is convenient since it's next to Times with a lot of parking. A new must try Hong Kong style restaurant in town! We came around 8pm on a Monday and it was packed. My mom recommended this spot for their spicy eggplant, which didn't disappoint. We haveee to come back to order that eggplant again, it had a sweet & sour flavor, and the perfect texture. We also ordered the egg flower mushroom soup, which was good & came out so quick! Their cold ginger chicken was great as well-- very tender & juicy chicken. The ginger sauce was packed with flavor & paired perfectly with the chicken. I've had some dry ginger chicken before and this was definitely not the case. Prices are pretty average, and our server was so sweet! I believe this place has only been open for about a month & they're still working out the kinks. We'll definitely be back, and I look forward to seeing what's in store! read more

Writing this review because the crazy crowds are no longer there. Lunch specials (beef chow fun, Singapore rice noodles) are great deals at $11.99. It's hard to get this quantity and quantity for this price.. yeah not perfect could get more curry flavor for noodles, etc still great value. Other more authentic Chinese dishes are inconsistent. Roast pork wish the skin was more crispy but flavor is good. Char siu doesn't have the nice burnt ends but very tender. Like the lunch specials it's a great value for between $15 to $20. Parking is super convenient and would highly recommend if don't want to deal with this in Chinatown. Chinese service not friendly but efficient. They will help you answer any questions so don't fell you need a Cantonese speaking buddy to come. read more

Tried some other items this time. Tried the Gau gee and won ton soup/no noodles. The flavor was delicious but the size was not a lot. The won ton are the size of small cotton balls. 2 pcs of char siu and won bok. If you are hungry, then I would definitely get something else.
