It was not too strong or sweet but still fruity tasting. Instead of a garnish, there was a picture of a Nick clothe pinned to the side. We weren't too hungry, so we ordered a couple of small plates: the tuna tartare and the feta 2.0. This place is actually perfect for snacking / light meals since their menu is a modern take on "Meze," or small shareable plates (think tapas). The tuna tartare was incredible. The fish, cucumbers and tomatoes tasted very fresh, but the star of the show was definitely the sauce which I think was a mixture of ponzu, togarashi, and cilantro tzatziki. It was spicy, but slightly creamy, but very herby and light. I loved that the pita chips were crispy; they paired well with the dish and they brought out a good ratio of chips to tartare. The feta cheese was also good. It was wrapped in crispy phyllo and topped with honey and sesame seeds. The honey provided a slight sweetness but not enough to overpower the salty and sharp taste of the fresh feta. This plate does not come with anything which was kind of odd so we asked for pita on the side. I wish we had asked for warm pita, or baked pita because it was a little dry. I was impressed with the flavors and quality of each dish as well as the attention of the servers and staff. There's a relaxed vibe as the lights are dim and interior design is classy.

The best part of the meal for me was the bread they serve at the start, which, as I found out later when I called to ask if I could just buy the bread as a takeout option, isn't baked in-house - they get it from Gary's Pizza in the South End. It was perfectly toasted and crispy and I could've just eaten that for my meal. We tried some of the pastas: 1) the gnocchi with lobster - not bad and actually a decent amount of lobster in the dish but extremely heavy and not something I could eat a whole portion of; 2) the tagliatelle - very hearty, yet nothing I could say that elevates it from other plates of tagliatelle; and 3) the polpo - which was the most disappointing, the octopus was overcooked and the bottom cous cous had no taste. For well over $100 for three pasta dishes, nothing was spectacular. What was spectacular was the massive basket of fries they give as a side. They do give your money's worth with the fries. We ordered some drinks and a salad appetizer, as well as a limone dessert (that was actually worth it, just get that and the bread), and for two people, the total was around $350. I'm glad I got the lemon vinaigrette on the side because it was tasty but a little too lemony for me. I forgot to take a picture but it was delicious. The half salad was perfect. The portions here are good. My waiter was efficient. He wasn't especially friendly but he wasn't unfriendly either...just an efficient dude trying to make a living. Drinks...I had a Dry September and enjoyed it. Now I'm having a Mildly Damp October. As a result I'm trying mocktails. My own best mocktail was created perfectly here: club soda and cranberry with a lime. They got the juice to soda ratio perfect! Great dinner and I'll return the next time I'm in Boston.

I am happy to say we were seated on time at a beautiful table for 4. The decor and atmosphere were really beautiful. It had a strong neighborhood feel that is remarkably unique. Our server introduced herself and took our drink order. My wife had a tropical Negroni, and I ordered a Vieux Carré. The drinks were generously sized and well made. We ordered our meals. We started with Burrata Toast and Oysters Rockefeller. The oysters were placed on a covered plate to contain the smoke. The presentation was only eclipsed by the oysters' flavor. The burrata toast was large enough to share between the four of us. The presentation was also beautiful, and the flavors were superb. Our entrees included: herb-crusted halibut, steak frites, the signature 1928 burger, and a gorgeous short rib with some fabulous crispy Brussels sprouts. We shared a single Sticky coffee pudding for dessert. All I can say is that the food and libations were superb, and the service was superb. It is not inexpensive, but no more so than any upscale restaurant in Boston. I would take the few recent negative reviews with a grain of salt. I have spent more and received less at a couple of spots in Boston. We will certainly return to 1928. I would love to try eating at the bar on our next visit.

Our 2 entrees were good, but not great for the price. I had a 12oz NY Sirloin, and the steak did have plenty of quality and flavor. My wife had seafood dish she said was decent. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the server, who's name escapes me, was so great. She even got us a free delicious Apple Fritter style dessert that was the highlight. One thing to note is that the soft drinks/soda are served in small bottles with a glass of ice and it's in the downtown area so parking might be a struggle. This isn't an overly fancy restaurant. We were expecting decidance. There are still plenty of people with t-shirt hoodies and white sneakers around. Try it for yourself, but it's not a spot my wife and I will return to when we are in the area.
