We had a wedding to attend and it was going to be hours before we had a chance to eat. Decided to hit up a sushi spot we had yet to visit. There were only a couple tables present so most of the restaurant was empty. It's small and gives you the feel of a independently owned restaurant that they've taken great pride to keep up. Waiter was pretty young and definitely inexperienced, not negative but be patient. Food was good and place was clean. Our only complaint was that it was really hot, I had to take my suit coat off and was still sweating. Honestly, we couldn't wait to get back in the car to cool down. Outstanding Quality! It is possible that my bar has been set low because of the ubiquity of grocery store sushi and overrated restaurant reviews that too frequently disappoint. As a result, I was blown away by how delicious the sushi and sashimi bento box from Kenzo was given Kenzo's humble placement in a strip mall. My mother had the shrimp tempura bento box, and she was similarly impressed. Everything in the bento box was a delight and surpassed my expectations. The sashimi was so fresh and just the right temperature. The nigiri were beautifully presented and adorned with simple but flavorful garnishes that made them uniquely tasty. There was a full complement of side dishes (miso soup, ginger dressing salad, maki, gyoza, and tempura), and they were of equal quality to the main entrees and provided the variety of tastes and textures that have earned the bento box its popularity and acclaim. Kenzo is a little gem tucked inside the quite town of Murphy/Wylie neighborhood. From the inside, it is quiet unassuming and with very little fuss. The food and the service they provide, however, are what set it apart from other restaurants in town. A few of our favorite includes spicy miso ramen, Gyoza ramen and shoyu ramen. All are uniquely flavorful with very rich broth and tender noodles. A few notable entrees include the donburri and pork or chicken katsu. Their different types of sushi are all a must try. Favorite of ours is the kenzo roll. The whole thing is a meal in itself. I also feel like I should at least mention the wonderful service that the owner provides. He is the epitome of customer service. He goes above and beyond for all his customers. We have not gone there once where he did not give us something "extra". Today alone, he provided us with free fried gyoza, ice cream and extra sushi. We've been here in the past where he would give my children free drinks, treats or desserts. His friendly nature and wonderful customer service are truly what make this place so unique and inviting, and what makes us come here over and over again. read more

I'm glad that I found a nice place not far from my home that serves good ramen. I ordered the basic miso ramen and I spiced it up myself with the spicy sauces they presented to me. This is my second time ordering this and it was good. If I had something negative to say, it would be that the chicken was a little tough. This is my favorite go to restaurant! The staff is so nice and polite. The decor is a lot but it is really entertaining for my kids. They love seeing the new drawings they post on their walls too. This place is a little hole in the wall gem that is one of the best kept restaurant secrets in the Murphy/Wylie area. It is almost hidden in a little shopping strip on 544 completely in the shadow of Boomerjacks, which anchors the end of the strip. We eat here often and really love the small authentic and casual atmosphere and the great quality. Truth be told, I can eat my weight in sushi, and it is not uncommon for my wife and I to drop a couple hundred at other sushi restaurants. The prices at Kenzo are not bad at all and many of the rolls are enormous. So on our most recent visit last night, our tab was $65 and that included a few beers and two appetizers in addition to our main meal and we were stuffed. If you eat sushi pretty frequently, then you know that isn't bad at all. The avocado bomb appetizer and the gyoza dumplings are excellent. In the past we have also had the ramen and many of the other dishes and all have been really wonderful. I highly recommend it if you like a quiet little local joint that serves a couple of Japanese beers and some quality food and service. I really wanted to like this place but the restaurant is not complying with covid restrictions. I recently had a baby (3months) and this was our first outing to a restaurant. We sat in the corner booth and to my surprise the booth next to us as well as the tiny table to my right were occupied with one of the guest's back as close as 2 feet from me, within 20 minutes of us being there. As soon as the 2nd table sat down, my husband looked at me and saw I was not happy. He asked or our check and a to-go box since we hadn't finished our remaining 3 rolls and we're waiting for our 5th roll (Volcano) to arrive (nor was it packed up to-go). My husband paid the bill ($72) not knowing we were still charged for the roll and tried to drink the rest of his Sapporo. The rolls we had were really good; Alaskan, Boston, PInk Pink, Kenzo salmon tower. I ate the remaining when we got home. I would return to the restaurant if I knew the tables next to us were 6ft distance but doesn't seem like that will happen here. If I end up with covid within the next couple weeks, I know where I got it. read more

We didn't want to come here but our daughter did so we agreed. I'm not sure if they were short staffed or what but we weren't greeted when we walked in, we sat ourselves. When we finally were waited on (about 15 min later) the waiter seemed extremely annoyed with us. The food took forever to come out and food was wrong (ordered kids udon noodles but they brought out adult size. I also ordered miso soup which never came). The bill was incorrect but we could Never get the waiters attention to get it corrected. The location is very small but the waiter still ignored our many many attempts to get his attention. We felt like a nuisance and that they were annoyed we were there. The food wasn't great but not awful but we will never be back. I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant before. Instant ramen alert! So, I've now learned to ignore all ramen/ramyun reviews from people in Murphy (no offense guys and gals). Not only was my bowl of ramen clearly made with instant ramen noodles, I am sure I've purchased the exact one from H Mart. There was no beef, pork, chicken, or seafood flavor in the spicy ramen. The bowl also contained an overcooked hardboiled egg instead of a perfect "ajitsuke tomago" (marinated ramen egg), no meat, and some shredded veggies as a garnish. Look, I love me some instant ramen, just not at a restaurant. It's literally the easiest thing to make. The California Roll on the other hand was quite good. The sushi chef did a good job with the crab salad mixture, I could've popped those things all day. The salad was also fresh and the dressing was clearly homemade. Maybe it's just their ramen that sucks? The owner was also waiting tables. This man was strange, to say the least. He didn't say a word the entire time, I'm not joking about that. His service was good though, and he even gave me a free ice cream bar for dessert. This restaurant gets a low rating from me for the ramen alone. Everything else I could deal with, and may even go back for, but I can assure you that no dignified Japanese chef would serve that ramen. 1 star for the ramen, 4 stars for everything else.
