Prik Pow basil veggies w/ shrimp option

In a nice shopping plaza along Shiloh Road, south of PGBT190 tollway. (At corner of Campbell Rd & Shiloh Rd, close to KROGER. Plenty of parking here, in a nice quiet neighborhood. Though 4 businesses have been here in past 6 years, I think that "Thai Garland" will be the winner of the bunch. 38 seats here, mostly tables for 4. Wait staff will seat you, and take drink orders. For now, table setting is modest plastic utensils & paper plates to lower costs. *No alcohol. The menu has a big variety of Thai dishes, with photos & word descriptions. Thai Fried Rice is good choice for those unfamiliar with the traditional dish names. Prik Pow is considered spicy, so I ordered level 3 of 5, but it was not spicy. It was very savory sauce, I would love a bowl of broth. The dish has basil a few basil leaves, with mushrooms, onions, and bell peppers as the base. I chose Pork & Shrimp as my proteins, cooked perfectly. On top of the dish is a layer of steamed brocoli & carrot slices, also cooked perfectly. I love to eat, and could barely finish this deep bowl of deliciousness! A generous serving of Jasmine rice, I managed to eat 80%, then "Nomás! Nomás!" I was Full! Great cook, nice staff, humble clean location, Excellent quality & flavor... and a nice price!

Love love love. The owner,cook,workers...it's like you are hanging out with family for a great meal. Eat in or take home the consistency of greatness remains. Best Thai in North Garland.

Stumbled upon this place for lunch today; and man, my husband and I are so we did. We are so uncomfortably full and will be making the trip back to Garland for this gem. First off the restaurant seems like it's a take out spot; but there are a nice amount of tables inside. It's family owned and the owner/chef is so very friendly and genuinely happy to hear what you think of his food. Pretty much all of their food is handmade in house. Super fresh, and the quality is great. So because they are new everything is served in take out ware. Don't let that bother you; the food is great. The service is pretty good considering there's one chef and everything is prepared to order. My husband and I ordered the Thai Tea. Which was super rich and creamy, my husband swears is the best he's ever had and wishes it was an Ice Cream. We ordered the eggrolls which had glass noodles inside which I love. Cooked to the perfect crispiness. We also got the chicken satay, which I must say has been the best I've had since moving to Texas. The chicken was so juicy and moist, came off the stick fairly easy and the cucumbers and peanut sauce were a 10/10. Definitely house made. I ordered the Kra Pow, Thai Hot. In my opinion of spice (because I love spicy food) it was a 3/5. But he did come and ask about the spice level; I told him it had amazing flavor, which it did, but I prefer it much hotter. So when he heard that he told me he would bring me his special peppers. The peppers he brought were amazing! I added two to my dish and it was the perfect super spicy heat level I was looking for! My husband ordered the pineapple fried rice and gave it a 5/5. Then we ordered the Thai custard and the mango and sticky rice. Oh my goodness; if you don't go there for anything else, go for these desserts. He uses a purple rice and the sauce is amazing! The Thai custard is the perfect silky texture and the flavor is amazing. We totally overate but it was worth it! Best Thai food we've had in quite sometime. This restaurant originally was in Rockwall and due to rent increases he moved to Garland. I really wish him all the success because he cares about his cooking and it shows in the food. Definitely give this place a try!

Ordered the fried squid and the regular portion of chicken Pad Thai level 2 spice, which came with an egg roll. If you're going to come here for lunch, and don't like eating left over, I recommend getting the lunch portion of chicken pad Thai. The lunch portion comes with a small cute salad, egg roll, and a good portion of chicken pad Thai with the bean sprouts on the side. The fried squid we got was very soggy which was a little disappointing. Then it got more disappointing when whad more fried onions and carrots compared to the amount of fried squid on the serving plate. The chicken pad Thai was ok in my opinion. Not sure what everyone's raving about because my noodles were all over cooked so it was a little difficult to enjoy. I may need to come back here one more time to see if anything changed and to bump up my rating or to see if the food usually like this.

Stopped by The Blue Rat in downtown Garland after the initial place we were trying to eat dinner at…read morehad a 2.5+ hour wait on a Friday night. This was recommended by some locals in the park when we were trying to figure out what our next move would be, and we thought -- why not? My husband and I got the soft spring rolls with shrimp and the corn fritters to start, and then we split two entrees: the khao man gai (Thailand's version of Hainanese chicken rice) and the khao soi (yellow curry noodles) with tofu. The fritters were pretty dry/mostly batter, mostly just a vehicle for the sauce they came with. The spring rolls were very loosely packed, so every bite we lost some of the filling to the plate and had to sop it up with our hands. The peanut sauce that came with it was also pretty tasty, though! The khao soi was quite delicious and definitely packed a lot of flavor and heat (we requested level 2 spicy), but it was honestly pretty small portion-wise for an entree, and there weren't a lot of noodles. The tofu was excellent, however. And the chicken breast on top of the khao man gai was super dry and disappointing (I would've vasty preferred dark meat chicken with skin still attached), but the bed of aromatic and flavorful rice is probably one of the best I've ever had. They have the khao man gai rice available as a side and I'd recommend that to anyone who comes here, because it was incredible. The flavorful khao man gai sauce was the only reason we were able to finish the super dry protein on top of the dish. The friend we were with got the pork pad see ew and found the protein there to be pretty tough and dry as well, though the noodles were good. This place is pretty far away from us so we would not go out of our way to return, but if you find yourself in the area and craving Thai, definitely give the khao man gai rice a try.

I particularly loved my pad Thai with chicken and tofu, it had a really great flavor! I asked for medium spice but I didn't find it spicy. Massaman curry was also really good and chock full of veggies! They also had many appetizers and drinks on Happy Hour which I believe went until 7 pm. Appetizers seemed to be $2 off, I didn't look closely at the drinks but it was basic cocktails. They did have an extensive cocktail list that looked very good! I will happily return here!

The meat-to-noodle ratio was solid, the veggies were plentiful, and the flavor was balanced and satisfying. The dining area felt clean and welcoming, and the server was attentive without hovering. Food came out quickly, which I appreciated. The crab rangoons were another highlight -- thick, flavorful, and genuinely delicious. The Pad Thai stood out, too. So many places drown it in that ketchup-y sweetness, but here the flavor was subtle, clean, and layered. Simple but still complex in a really good way.

Came here with some girlfriend for the Thai tea and what an experience it was!…read more When we got seated they started off with some water and brought out the menu as well as the tier of goodies. Everything was described to us and we jumped right in. We started with a green tea and usually that's NOT my jam, however it ended up being my favorite. The bottom tier of items (savory) was also my favorite especially the pad Thai croissant (I could have gone home with a few of them). The middle tier had the coconut tapioca item and I seriously could have had more. The citrus tea was fragrant but not over powering. The scone was my least favorite as it felt like it was undercooked and still doughy. The last tier (desserts) - the macaroons were okay, the chocolate was a little too much for my liking, I did like the lemon and the tea (vanilla chai) wasn't what I expected but I also asked for some milk to go with it. The mango dessert was a little much so I ended up taking it home. We had plenty of tea, the service was wonderful and I would do it again as the menu is seasonal and changes.
