Met up with a friend for dinner and generally enjoyed my ramen. I got the number 2, which seemed closest to a typical Tonkotsu, and for the most part it was slightly above average! My one criticism is that the chashu was thin, lacked a bit of char, and was in small pieces, so I didn't feel like I got much. But the broth was pretty good and the service was kind. I found the price for a bowl just a tad steep, but nothing crazy. My friend mentioned that he liked the curry tonkotsu that he got but that his chashu tasted too much like bacon for him. I did want to mention also that I noted an extended vegan ramen menu while browsing for what I was getting. There was at least 6-8 flavors of vegan ramen. Hands down my favorite ramen spot in DFW. Nishiki Ramen never disappoints, they're always consistent. The broth is rich, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly flavorful on its own -- but the Death Sauce, it takes the ramen to another level. I've tried Nishiki Ramen twice now and as much as I want to love it, the food is honestly just mediocre... On our first visit, I had the Nishiki ramen and my fiance had the smoke bomb black ramen. Both of us felt that the broth was lacking in depth and flavor compared to other spots we have tried before. Then a few months later, we decided to give Nishiki a second go and this time we tried the chicken karaage, curry pork ramen, and pork chashu rice bowl (which came with an egg and cabbage salad). The chicken karaage had good flavor but some parts of the chicken seemed to be undercooked... Cute little spot. The server was attentive. My daughter loves the kids ramen meal. Husband liked the spicy chicken ramen and said it was a perfect level of heat. I'm a little sensitive to fish sauce flavor, so the chicken ramen had a little too much in the broth for me. The meat is also a little strange in it. We tried the Russian roulette takoyaki with wasabi in one of the takoyaki balls but you won't know which one... The ramen itself is very good with super flavorful broths. I got the Nishiki which is regular tonkotsu which for me sets the standard for everything else. The GGG was also really nice and fresh and unique. The only thing that keeps this place from earning 5 stars for me is their chashu. It tastes good but the way they prepare it lacks the crispiness and grilled flavor that takes your ramen over the edge. That's just a preference thing. Overall great service and food. read more

For some reason, Nishiki Ramen chose to grace DFW with its presence from San Diego, and we're all the better for it. \\ Chicken Karaage - i typically look for a crispy exterior and juicy interior, so i don't think i'll order again - theirs was more crunchy and less delicate but still--fried chicken will always be yum \\ Nishiki Ramen (Tonkotsu ramen) - i had to try the noodles that bore the restaurant name, even if the menu said it was the second-most popular (my fiancé had the most popular one, with black garlic oil, so i got to sample its smoky umami broth, too) - soup so creamy it's almost sweet and not too salty so you can have spoonfuls without chugging water later - i was surprised that the pickled ginger actually tastes like ginger instead of candy - the freshly made noodles were beautifully springy without any of the curliness that packaged noodle remembers - comes with an entire soft-boiled egg that had a perfect jelly yolk that gushed out with each bite I love that there's a full vegan menu, too! Gone are the days when I felt bad that my vegetarian and vegan friends couldn't try ramen. They would have so many options here! At $16-18 per bowl, it makes me miss the days of $8 ramen in LA, but the ingredients and flavors are truly of outstanding quality. Would love to come back from time to time and recommend to others! Good amount of parking at this relatively new plaza, but with all the awesome restaurants, spots were still hard to find on a Saturday evening. TLDR; food didn't live up to the hype for us. Excellent service, especially if dining with a little one though! We were really excited to try this place out, but our expectations fell short once we got our food. I really appreciated that they were accommodating with our baby and made sure we had everything we needed. It's always nice to be able to sit at a table for three and not feel cramped. But the ramen was ok. I actually felt bad because the service was so good but it's not the server's fault that the broth was mediocre. The restaurant was clean and had a nice quiet and warm ambiance. The service was impecable. I think because it was very slow the waitresses were very attentive and the food came out very quick. The chicken karaage was good, the breading was really crispy and flaky, but the chicken inside was a little spongy and chewy. The ramen was fantastic. The spicy had a good kick and the noodles were cooked perfectly al dente. The only reason I give 4 stars is because there wasn't really a wow factor. They sell pretty basic ramen and this whole meal cost about $35. The variety of flavors (for the ramen) is wonderful, there is something for everyone on the menu. We got black garlic ramen and Asuko ramen. Due to the Anime Food fest occuring nearby, we decided to give this ramen place a chance. The atmosphere was brilliant, the workers were friendly and service was great. I had no idea the Nishiki fries were huge! They were delicious and I would order it again. My boyfriend and I ordered their ~$30 Wagyu beef ramen and Nishiki ramen. No complaints on their Nishiki ramen. Broth and noodles were amazing, and I would put this spot in my top 5 places to go around the DFW area for real, authentic noodles. However, my one gripe about the food (which is unfortunate) was the Wagyu beef itself. I don't know if it's because we came early within their first hour of opening, or maybe it was cooked incorrectly etc, but that ramen was not worth $30. It was my boyfriend's first time trying Wagyu beef and actual Wagyu beef is supposed to tender and melt when you eat it. He wasn't able to chew and ended up wasting one slice by puking it out, so he and I traded bowls. I was able to chew one slice, but it was the chewiest meat I've ever had, similar to trying to break bubblegum. I ended up drinking some water to swallow the whole thing because I couldn't for the life of me, chew it to smaller pieces. While I could've requested a remake or a trade, I was already halfway done with the noodles, so I took it to-go. I'm willing to give this place another chance, but I'll definitely be ordering something else. read more

We were so surprised to find a San Diego based ramen shop in Plano! Second night in Plano and we happened to find this place on Yelp. Little did we know we were only a few minutes from all the Asian restaurants and stores in Plano! Hubs and I ordered the No. 1 and the No. 5. Him being the garlic lover and me loving the soft egg. We were craving some ramen so went to the soft opening for Nishiki Ramen. Inside of Nishiki Ramen has really nice aesthetics. It was probably a cool 67-70 degrees which is perfect to avoid this Texas 100+ weather. James was our server, and he was real cool. The owner's son in law came out and was helping out too. He has good aesthetics. We got the Nishiki, Akuma, and Smoke Bomb Black ramens with Chicken karagaage and Russian Roulette Takoyaki. The Akuma ramen has a very nice spicy kick to it. Prepare to drink some extra water because it pops with spice, but it was perfect for me. The smoke bomb black has a really unique flavor to it, but it was delicious. All of the ramen came out nice and fresh. The chicken karaage was nice and hot. The Russian Roulette Takoyaki was very good. James warned us about the wasabi that was in it, but you can get it without it which he suggested. Appreciate you James. It's part of a plaza with other restaurants. The building is very nice!
