This was one of the first places that my fiance and I tried when we moved to the Allen area not long ago, and it was a great spot for a tasty and filling lunch. I opted for the Hakata ramen, and my fiance chose the spicy mazemen since it was quite hot outside for soup noodles (according to him). The Hakata ramen was hearty without being too rich, and the spicy mazemen turned out to be a favorite for both of us! I've been going around trying various Japanese restaurants and this place has been the best, most authentic I've had. My 2+ years in Japan had me eating A LOT of ramen. The egg was perfect and flavorful, noodles chewy, and the broth was pretty good. Though I wish the broth was a little bit richer, it was still above average. The only thing I didn't quite like was the spicy paste they added, I wish it was incorporated into the broth instead of just added on top. It really overwhelmed the tonkotsu flavor when it melted, and I think this was gochujang paste(?) However, this won't be a problem for the standard tonkotsu ramen, so I would recommend that one instead (N1). The service was awesome, the waitress was kind, friendly, and everything came out fast and piping hot! Ambiance is like a modern Japanese style, and it is neat and clean. We started with the spicy Japanese fries, which were crispy and flavorful! The sauces def turned some regular fries into an elevated app. The chashu buns were tasty and had plenty of flavor in each bite. However, the pork could have been more tender. One entree was the spicy garlic hakata ramen. It was super garlicky, which means it was perfect! The shredded garlic was delightful. The spice was the perfect amount, just enough to give you that kick, without causing serious brow sweat. The other entree was the miso ramen. It was creamy and jam picked with flavor. Spicy Chicken Karaage: 8/10. Nice kick of spice so you a crunchy outside and juicy inside. Cabbage on the side tastes bad. Maybe it was old cabbage? It was pale, not the typical green. Chashu Bun: 5/10. Flavor is good, but for the price of $9.00, not worth it. There is only one very very thin slice of pork inside. Mazemen: 4/10. Very generous portions of chashu and cucumber. Egg was nicely cooked. However, the chashu sauce was really sweet. I had to dump a bunch of ramen pepper and Japanese pepper into it to counter the sweetness. Overall, the chashu made the Mazemen very sweet and a little salty. Maybe some people like sweet Mazemen, but it was definitely not my cup of tea. Service: 0/10. Service was non-existent. We came on Friday around 7pm. The server girl who took our order seemed really annoyed when asking for our drink and food order. She didn't check up on us at all during the whole time we were eating. Not even to give us water refill or ask how everything was. I would not come back here again because I don't think your money would be well spent here. The food was mediocre at best and the service was non-existent. I know this is a ramen restaurant and not fine dining, but if servers expect to be tipped, they should at least try to put some effort in. Ordered some ramen and rice dishes from here today. I don't know what happened, but when my dad went to pick up our food, he didn't get any noodles at all. That was kind of disappointing but I won't dock too many stars because my dad has a history of incorrectly picking up food orders. The rices dishes were really yummy--we got the tonkatsu curry and pork rice and both were well-made and delicious! I was so hungry I forgot to take pics oops Update: I ordered again today and requested the noodles that we never got yesterday. They also threw in 2 free dried noodles for good measure! I heated up the ramen soup bases from yesterday and added the noodles we received today. The ramen was pretty good! I wish there were more toppings, but it might be more noticeable because I assembled it myself. Katsu bun--5/5 the flavor profile of this dish was complete with the crunch of the katsu and sweetness of the sauce. Okonomiyaki--4/5 there was a nice crunch on the cabbage pancake and a good amount of squid and bonito flakes. We would rather get this over the takoyaki because they tasted similar anyways. Chashu bun--3.5/5 The ratio of the chasu vs. the bun was not great. You might as well get the katsu bun. The chashu wasn't juicy either. Chicken karaage--2.5/5 Get the spicy or soy sauce flavored one because the original doesn't come with any side of sauce. Plus, the batter was not the best. Takoyaki--2/5 The octopus piece was lackluster...just a tiny one. Lots of batter. You should get this if you like the mushy taste of the batter.
