Such a cute spot!! The decor all around was great. The chips and salsa were tasty, but not the best. The queso came out sizzling and looked fantastic. The taste was not so fantastic, but it was still a good queso. The flautas had a lovely presentation and were yummy. The birria tacos had great flavor to them and the consommé was good as well. The rice and beans were a disappointment. Our service wasn't the best and it took a while to get most things. They weren't the friendliest or most helpful.

My family and I came here for lunch. Our server was a bit slow. The atmosphere was nice. The food tasted average.

The weekday lunch special is a good deal and comes with a salad and a churro--although I never received the churro. I ordered the birria tacos and they were good. My husband had the fajitas and said they were pretty good and came out sizzling hot. Service was the biggest issue. Our server never checked back to refill water or see if we needed anything, and I had to flag her down just to get the check. The restaurant wasn't busy at all (only about four tables), so the lack of service was frustrating. On the plus side, the decor is cute and great for photos, there's plenty of parking, and the bathrooms were clean with a baby changing table by the door. Overall, decent food and atmosphere, but the poor service took away from the experience.

Birria quesadilla

Stopped by for lunch with the hubby and got to try the lunch specials. Prices were fair and the portions were amazing. I got the birria quesadilla and it was huuuuge. Hubby really liked the fresh chips and salsas. Will be back to try the other menu options! They were pretty busy on a weekday lunch, so that should tell ya something ;)

Nice decor- Insta worthy !!! We were in that area so thought of checking it out... We went for lunch ordered Big Dipper & Catch of the day from the menu along with couple of drinks . While waiting for our order chips & salsa was provided which was good. Both the dishes were good to taste but nothing much to write about. Drinks were ok too. Place is nicely decorated & huge outdoor & indoor seating. Maybe Friday evening/night vibe will be better.

Catch of the day - Mahi Mahi - very colorful and pleasing to the eye!

We had a very good lunch here. The drinks - the Mezcalita and the Ole Smokey, both were strong and smoked very well . The chips served along with with 2 salsas were freshly fried and that made all the difference . The salsas too were made from quality and fresh ingredients. We ordered the the Big Dipper and the Catch of the day - Mahi Mahi and both were made well and from fresh ingredients. What caught our attention was the sauce with Mahi Mahi which was made from mango puree and made the dish outstanding! Service was very nice by Ashlay. The place is completely done up for a fiesta eve . Unfortunately we went in for an early noon lunch, so we missed the vibes and spirit . We plan To come next time for a Friday evening with friends !

Margarita flight

After getting into town for a business meeting, some of us decided to go grab dinner before getting started. We needed something walkable from the hotel and found the Neon Cactus. It is a bit more limited menu than I was expecting, but still was able to find something thay looked good. Started with a margarita flight. While ot was fine, I don't think I'd go for it again. It was 4 small servings and I didn't really care for any of them. I'd just get a different drink I know I'd like. I also saw esquietes on the menu and can never turn down corn. This dish was fantastic. My tablemates also enjoyed a d used it more like a dip for their chips. I got a quesadilla tray, which was half of 2 flavors. I chose chicken and birria. This was so much food. It also came with rice and beans. I ended up taking half back for lunch the next day. I enjoyed the birria with consomme, so flavorful. Maybe needless to say, we didn't have room for dessert. Service was fantastic. Would recommend the Neon Cactus!

This was a fantastic find we stumbled on. Didn't realize another restaurant had moved into this space after Wild Salsa left. Will certainly be back. The restaurant is bright, welcoming, and on theme. They also have a large outdoor seating area for when it cools off. We started with a Texas two step and an amethyst fizz margarita. Both were tasty, but my fav was the amethyst; the champagne cut the sweetness from the raspberry and was a delightful treat. Now onto the food: The salsa had great flavor and wasn't spicy at all, so it could be enjoyed by most. The avocado crema had great flavor and paired well with the other salsa or could top any dish. We skipped apps and ordered entrees, but due to the kids' orders, our food was delayed. To compensate for us waiting, we received an order of queso blanco. The queso is absolutely delicious and I'm not usually a fan of ordering queso at restaurants. It had a ton of flavor despite not having any meat and came in a scorching molcajete, so the queso never solidified or cooled down. The Mexican cajeta French toast was to divine! Absolutely fabulous in every way. The French toast was so crunchy, yet pillowy on the inside. It's not for the sugar averse, but the flavor was out of this world and was perfectly portioned. We ordered the texicali breakfast burrito with skirt steak. It was quite large and had everything you'd want a burrito to have. Though we did wish it had a tad more scrambled egg, but we still enjoyed it. The camarone tacos were flavorful and the chipotle aioli added that extra kick. Overall, everything from the drinks to the food we ordered looked great, tasted even better, and we've now added another place to visit from time to time. The service was great as well, only adding to how positive the experience already was.

First off the vibes were great here and the interior is so nice! The chips were super fresh and the salsa you get was good but that green sauce was super good. On top of that, we got the queso and holy moly this was awesome. Had a little kick to it too which I loved and the stone bowl was a nice touch in keeping it hot. For food I ended up getting the Cheek-y tacos which were super good but wished I got one more taco. This super tender and good. I tried some of my friends Big Dipper which is their take on a birria type quesadilla with consume and ngl it was good as well. Had a little sweetness to it probably from the sauce but I thought it was solid. Overall the vibes were great, the service was great but wish the portion size for some of the dishes were a little bigger for the price. Despite the prices the food was still super good and I would definitely come back again.

Churro dessert

My first time visiting a week ago with a few girlfriends for dinner and visiting. We expressed our desire to casually enjoy appetizers, meal, and dessert while visiting to ensure (and be mindful of others) they were ok with an extended table. We ordered 3 appetizers, 3 entrees (2 ladies split one), and both desserts. When the appetizers arrived, we received the shrimp cocktail which we did not order and didn't receive the guacamole appetizer. They quickly remedied and gave the shrimp cocktail for free. Our meals were good, not excellent, but good. The desserts were probably my least favorite. The churros are not sticks and the dips are in very small round containers so it was difficult to eat with. We cut them into small bite size pieces but still a bit awkward. The churros were a bit overdone but not horribly. The flan was ok. All in all, service was good. Food was ok. Nothing to complain about but probably a tad pricey for the quality. I wouldn't order desserts again unless they bring something else to the menu. The atmosphere was chill. Seems much smaller inside than expected due to the extended bar area. However, plenty of space to eat and enjoy your meal. My friends utilized the restrooms and unfortunately, stated they were very dirty. So I can't give 5 stars for that reason and because the food is good, but not exceptional. If you're looking for a casual place to eat with decent food choices, this will do. Also, one thing I did NOT like at all was the bench. You sank very low. Super low and it felt like a little kid sitting at an adult table. It was rather uncomfortable.

Queso

I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed my experience. Our waitress was really sweet and on top of things. The queso here is fan. It comes out piping hot and still boiling. The flautas here are really tasty as well. The taco salad was really good but my shell came out burnt: our waitress was able to get that corrected asap. The salad was really fresh. It came with crispy turkey bacon and peptitas. I'll definitely be back when I'm on this side of town. The ambiance is nice and they were playing really good music.

Queso Blanco served in extremely hot rock -- impressive & delicious!

This was our first visit to Neon Cactus, and let's just say--they know how to make a great first impression! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was lively, the decor was unique, and deliciousness filled the air. Rave reviews about their Queso Blanco peeked our interest. It arrived like it's your birthday .. in a hot pot made of rock, lol, steamy, creamy, flavorful, and the kind of thing you contemplate ordering a second round of even when you know food is on it's way. Yes, it's that delicious! Everything else we ordered matches the rave reviews you are already reading. It's worth mentioning our waiter, Demitrius. This man didn't just bring us food; he delivered an experience! Friendly, attentive, and somehow always there at the perfect moment -- he made sure our meal was top-notch. And just when we thought we couldn't love this place more, Demitrius hit us with the first-time visitor special -- churros on the house! Not just any churros, but warm, crispy cinnamon sugar bites of heaven served with a rich chocolate sauce and a secret caramel sauce so good it probably has its own fan club. We may never know the secret, but we do know we'll be back for more! Overall, Neon Cactus gave us the kind of first visit that guarantees there will be a second, third, and probably many more. If you're looking for great food, a fun atmosphere, and a waiter who deserves a raise (Demitrius!), this is the spot.

Strawberry swirl frozen margarita

On a Saturday afternoon, I grabbed a friend and we went out for lunch and drinks. We arrived around 4pm and the restaurant wasn't super busy but the patio was mostly filled. We opted for the patio and sat next to the fire-pit! The restaurant is nicely decorated and does have lots of photo ops props for those interested in getting great photos! Our server was very attentive and came over to our table quickly to take our drink orders. We both ordered margaritas and chips and salsa were brought to our table as well. You receive a red salsa and a green salsa. I did not try the green salsa because mayo was in it- I am not a fan of mayo. The red salsa was yummy and my friend raved over the green salsa. For my main meal, I ordered the 3 taco plate. The big dipper taco was fantastic! The other two tacos were ok, but I would not order them again. After we finished our meals, our server brought out churros with two dipping sauces (chocolate and a salted caramel). The churros were yummy...I was not a fan of the dipping sauces but I didn't think the churros needed them!

I've been trying to find out on Sundays at 11am, is only their brunch menu available or lunch too? When I call, no one answers. I've sent a message through their website and Open Table and no reply. Anyone know the answer or how to reach someone?

Most restaurants have only the brunch menu available until after a set time; usually 2 or 3 pm. Hope this helps

Our intentions were to build a professional relationship with them and hire them for future events since my wife is the event planning chair for our HOA community. She left SEVERAL voice mail messages before she was finally able to contact Jessica by phone. She told her about the event for our community and explained the extreme importance of her promptly providing her with an invoice, Certificate of Insurance, and W9 as required by our HOA management company. She quoted her a price for the event and said that she would forward the documents to her soon. After a few weeks and still having not received the documents she agreed to send her, she began calling and texting her as well as emailing, but never received an answer on the phone, or a response to her texts, or emails. We later saw Jessica at the McKinney Marketplace and introduced ourselves. She apologized and said she hadn't responded because she recently suffered a death in her family. She said she would definitely contact my wife with the needed information later that week. Based on the alleged circumstances, we accepted her explanation and waited for her to respond as promised. That was six weeks ago and she STILL has not responded, although the event is on October 1st. I cannot understand, or believe that any reputable business owner would ignore a paying client who is going to pay in advance of the event. It is extremely discourteous, irresponsible, and unprofessional to put a potential client through months of uncertainty while stringing them along with excuses and no explanation, instead of just telling them upfront that she did not want to provide her services for the event. Fortunately, my wife was able to locate a RELIABLE and responsive alternate to cater our event.

The floors are dirty. Ugh. Crumbs all over the floor and it's sticky. I think most folks use Uber Eats. That's why they don't have a standard inside. Usually, kids, and I mean kids 16 and younger are running the counter and kitchen. The bottles are never wiped down. Caked on food on ketchup, green sauce, and red sauce bottles. Thus far I've not gotten sick. They don't speak English, but then I don't speak Spanish. So it's a wash! I'll probably go back. And pray every time I don't get sick. Thus far I've dodged the bullet! I'd like to support a small business. However, the prices are stupid crazy! Salsa and chips are $5.50. Refills are $1 each time for salsa. Pay up front too. Then they serve you. Don't expect refills either you have to pay first. ( I still leave a tip, but probably shouldn't). Food is always decent! Just know when eating in, it's not up to expectations as a consumer. Make your own judgments. Sticking to Uber eats may be your best bet! That way you don't see what really goes on inside this establishment. June-September 2024
