Saturday Friendsgiving outing. We made a reservation for 8, got to the restaurant and the manager said "his computer" showed it was only for 4. We had the page pulled up where you could see our reservation was in fact, for 8. He wasn't nice about THEIR mistake and seemed put out that he had to find room for 8 of us (even though there were plenty of tables available). Next our service was slow. When our food final arrived, 7 of the 8 dishes were cool or slightly warm. Drinks were meh (ordered the frozen margarita flight). Only giving the 2 stars because the decor is fun. This place has a cool vibe to it. When you are walking up, it is beautifully landscaped and once you walk in it is tastefully decored in a way that is modern and crisp, yet pays homage to the past. We chose the patio - but would not do that again - not enough fans operating to created a breeze for the temperatures. Also, felt like we were forgotten because we were seated on the patio. The drinks were mediocre. The deviled eggs were delicious as was the queso. The deconstructed flautas were good, as were the quesadillas, the prickly cactus tacos were mediocre. Very disappointing visit this past Saturday night. My last 2 experiences at this place could not have been more opposite. Drinks on point. Appetizer flavorful with right consistency. Main meal delicious. I don't know what happened. It was a completely different experience. So much so that I would hesitate to return. The drinks were weak. The chorizo queso was watery and I guess overcooked. I can't really explain it. The entree was meh. At $85.00 plus later, it should have been better. Very disappointing. What these restaurants owners don't get is that consistency is key. There are too many good, no great restaurants in town to settle for less than; especially at that price. Do better. The food was amazing! Tacos were great, but our favorite was the tamales, by far. Service was excellent, and their cucumber margaritas were delicious. They are kid-friendly with kid menus, as well. The decor was very cute, and I enjoyed the outdoor seating (even in February!). Would definitely recommend this place. read more

My large table ordered lots of food and drinks and we tried many options. The decor and vibe are fun. The patio is rockin'. The cooks area is open and inviting. The chips are fine but the salsa, friends- three options including a spicy salsa if you let them know you a spicy gal. There is a superb cocktail menu. I had a smoky mezcali and oh lord it was delicious and the presentation was delightful in a glass box with floral arrangement. We had apps and mains all fun takes on fusion concepts. Had an excellent experience at Neon Cactus this evening! Ashley took care of us and was so quick in finding what she could do to make our day better. The food was mediocre and overpriced: $20 for 3 different tacos which were ok at best. It says it comes with rice and beans which is true but the portions are tiny - think of a small sauce bowl. The only dish I call out as tasty is the green sauce that comes together with a complimentary tortilla chips. Server was nice and friendly but when I needed more water, I had to call someone to bring it. Usually there is a person who would refill water all the time. In terms of ambience, the place looks nice and stylish. However, we sat on the sofa which was too low compared to the table so it was a bit uncomfortable to eat. I'm a big believer they should be stored upside down to keep random debris from accumulating in them while and the upright position and infilled. The Menu seems to be a slight fusion between classic Tex-Mex food with a Korean flair. Really overall it wasn't impressive and as a comparative analysis, I've had better table service at the McDonald's in Allen off 75. Our wait person also did not seem to know all the ins and outs of the Menu. Unless it was their first day, it's inexcusable. I'm not saying, don't go, but at least you should go informed. I've been here three times in the last two months. Every time has been consistent with food and service. These photos were from my first visit. All three times I came for lunch, and honestly I'm nervous to come for dinner for service alone. This place is super eclectic decor wise and I love it! Definitely an instagramable place with all the cute photo ops. The service was not terrible but not great. So let me explain, all three times we had great servers, in the beginning.... Always friendly, seemed on top of things but after we placed our food orders the service went downhill, I did get a check in after the food arrived but after that couldn't find our server. And all three times it wasn't busy. Trying to get your check is torture, the last time I went I had to flag down the manager. And we weren't the only tables trying to get our checks. So if you're in a rush, you're gonna be late. So I'm interested to see what dinner would be like. The menu is different, but a good different. Definitely a fusion. The deviled eggs are okay, 6/10. Wasn't super impressed with the combo of flavors. The guacamole was delicious,10/10. The queso was good too, great presentation, 10/10. The flautas are okay, the sauce isn't my favorite and I'd give it a 6/10. The esquites is very lackluster. 4/10 on that one, I love Mexican street corn, but they were trying to hard with this. The hot Cheetos dust was not impressive and flavor was just lacking. I got the taco platter with an extra taco to make a total of four. I got the prickly cactus, which was gross. I love nopales tacos but whatever they did to this was not good and it was really sour. I also got the carne-vor, it was ok. Didn't like the sauce. The waitress recommended the el Mandarin, again another fusion bust. The chicken would've been okay solo as an entree but as the taco it was ehhh. The best taco was the Big Dipper, basically a birria taco. Definitely should've gotten 4 of those. The Chile Relleno, 10/10! So good, will get this again if I come back. The abuelas quesadillas was pretty tasty too, 9/10. Basically a huge birria taco. There salsa is really good too. Went with hubby to have an adult beverage and a snack. This is where the old Wild Salsa was and there are lots of similarities. One that I didn't sit right with me that they incorporated neon pink on the walls inside and out. The snack that we chose was the Barbacoa Deviled eggs which were delicious. Food was decent. The service was ok. But the temperature was VERY cold inside here on May 10th. This was one of the first things I mentioned to the young woman who was our server. She said "oh, we don't set the temperature for you all, we set it for employees, since we are walking around a lot." I laughed-- honestly, out of shock. I don't often complain about a restaurant temperature, but whenever I have I always get some kind of sympathetic response, even if they are unable to make a change. I've certainly never had a waiter tell me they are adjusting the entire restaurant cold for the guests so that the waiters would be a bit more comfortable. Seems like an HVAC issue to look into, and likely a training/communication piece to figure out with this water as well. read more

We sat at the bar where we started off with some margaritas. They hit hard to say the least. Then we got some appetizers . The barbacoa deviled eggs were exquisite . (If that's your thing) And the white queso was steaming and hit the spot . Put bartender was very knowledgeable about the menu and made awesome recommendations . Service was 10/10. We went here with family from Europe, and it was hands down the best choice for Tex-Mex food. Our family wasn't accustomed to Midwest air-conditioning. We asked the staff if there was anything we could do to make them comfortable, and they were happy to accommodate! Immediately, they made a point to turn down the air conditioning as we sat down. Our server, Moises, was extremely polite and helpful. He always made sure to take care of everything at the table, even when the restaurant was extremely busy. The decorations were amazing! Very unique with a ton of character. Really made the restaurant pop that much more! Throughout our entire dinner, the service was amazing.
