Jim and Deg left me with homework. Take photos of my new electric box under sink and mail to Lindsay at scheduling. (WOW!). The plumber will come tomorrow and bring the right equipment to upgrade the water system for my new 2 drawer dishwasher. (WOW! WOW!). . That kind of cooperation and teamwork is outstanding! So while Costco could not communicate with me about the install appointment, the delay has given me time to get the infrastructure updated. In 2008 Jim was on the team who updated my electric panel from twist knobs to breakers. He remembers connecting the copper wires and hammering two grounding poles into my back yard. On this visit Jim also pulled out my old dishwasher which was still bolted to the water valve. He didn't say, "I'm not a plumber, I can't do that. No, he got the right tool and pulled it out. I've used Kelleher for all my plumbing, electrical and hvac needs since 1996. Today was excellent as always. From Cindy setting the appointment and calling on the day of service to let me know the service tech is on the way to the plumbing service provided by Stephen. Stephen was polite and professional. He reinstalled my garbage disposal when it came loose and detached from the sink. He explained to me how to check and make sure it is locked and thoroughly tested it. Very efficient. I have used this company for more than 20 years -- for bath and kitchen remodels and for total HVAC replacement two years ago. I recently used them for a faucet replacement for a faucet they originally installed in 2008. We had a bit of a disagreement about some charges, but Kelleher went above and beyond to resolve them to my satisfaction. We have used Kelleher since moving to Richmond in 1991. Our first encounter was when we required a consult for a new house we were purchasing and one of the Kelleher's came out and provided consult free of charge. Since then we have used them innumerable times for heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical We've used them from small to large jobs and are very competent. They have always backed up their work and provided great service and gone out of their way to be helpful. If we had any concerns or questions they were promptly addressed . We are very loyal customers and respect their professionalism from top to bottom. We've recommended them to all our friends. We came to know many of the plumbers especially because they worked for Kelleher over many years. The newer employees have been just as knowledgeable and courteous as the previous ones. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before hiring this company. They sent two guys to fix one kitchen sink leak, they doubled the price for the faucet they bought at Lowe's, and the two guys had to return later that day because they cold water faucet was not working. I work in procurement and understand that business' need to add charges to cover their costs, but $400 to change out one kitchen faucet is outrageous. They only charge I questioned was the one for the faucet since I knew the store's price. Instead of trying to negotiate with me, the first guy I spoke to said there was nothing he could do. A few days later, another guy called to tell me I was wrong about the cost at Lowe's, but when I told him I had a printout from Lowe's he just talked over me and accused me of trying to sabotage his business. I'm just reporting my experience. I would not hire this place ever again. read more

Our central A/C unit was not functioning. Service man arrived on time the morning I called for help. He was friendly, informative, and skilled. Explained what he was doing and why. Fixed the A/C unit, recharged the Freon and even gave me a tool to maintain my unit on my own free of charge. Administrative people at the office were friendly and easy to work with. My family chose to use Kelleher for a major HVAC installation (over $20k) NOT because of glowing recommendations (we were advised against using them) or great prices(they are high), but because they were local, lived in the area, and we thought they would know the houses best and we wanted to support a local, family-owned company. Unfortunately things did not go as we had hoped and we are stuck with shoddy, overpriced, ugly, un-thought out work, parts of which we had to pay to get fixed! (Kelleher is aware of our situation - we filed complaints and they followed up) It is really a shame because everyone we have interacted with from the Kelleher family has been wonderful, but it seems their employees are causing their once-great name to crumble. To this day, we are still getting mail with them trying to nickel and dime us. Save yourself time, trouble, and money and avoid Kelleher. read more

Kelleher worked with me on a renovation I did to a large C1926 colonial revival home in the Laburnum Park neighborhood. The house needed a brand new system and all new vent and duct work installed. Two new HVAC heat pumps were installed to the rear of the home in a niche to keep the noise level low. They went the extra mile to make sure the sound coming from the units was quiet and put them on a damped concrete pad, nice work. Because the house had only radiator heat previously, we decided to keep it as a back up system and install heat strips in the new HVAC system. This would provide less expensive electric heat when temperatures were moderate and the gas heat would fire up when it dropped below 32 degrees. Next, they expertly situated and installed the two air handlers. One in a utility room in the basement and the other tucked away in the corner of the walk up attic. They worked very hard to make the installation as unobtrusive as possible and we were able to minimize the robbing of storage space by doing adequate placement planning ahead of time. The job was done in just 3 days. The crew was professional, courteous, and respectful of our home. I would not hesitate to recommend this family owned Richmond business to anyone looking for professional service. read more

The servicemen are very professional and get the job done. I wish I could just hire them without having to go through the billing dept. at the office. They bill for the time the servicemen are there plus a $90 minimum. When my home needed repair to a pipe AND some minor duct repair they sent two different people and billed me the minimum plus time spent for two seperate trips instead of consolidating the work in one trip. Their ability to do it all is certainly true so long as you know you are going to pay for each technician. Caveat Emptor. read more

They kept my old HVAC going for as long as economical and put in the new unit when I needed it. I found them to be very professional, and they turned around the new system quickly. Will respond usually on the same day. Will be good when everything goes good.........However their service led to gallons of water being leaked in my attic resulting in $1300 damage. Instead of standing up and doing the "right" thing, they had me file the claim with my homeowners insurance, knowing full well it would be lost forever in insurance company rumblings. They keep denying the claim stating it was a coincidence that 5 gallons of water leaked from the unit the day after the repair. So not only do I have to pay for their poor workmanship, but i have to pay the $500 deductible on home insurance and have the claim on my record. And if you want reliable service men, just know that there was a fresh cigarette butt left on my attic floor. The office even told me the Tech smoked but shouldn't in the house. Bad and Good both. Good for oil delivery, whereas some places like Southside Fuel and Woodfin close the office early on Saturday and do not have dispatch or an on-call service - - Kelleher does. Not only do they deliver Saturday as late as 5 to 6:30pm, but they take your calls even if the office part is closed already. And someone does call you back, unlike at Southside Fuel, where you can leave 3 messages on Saturday and get a return call Monday at noon if you're lucky. Not only that but occasionally, they have been known to deliver on Sunday if snow is coming and they couldn't squeeze you in on Saturday, they will make it up to you by coming the next morning, and although they don't make it a regular practice, they've made exceptions. However the furnace repair is another story all together. Yes they really know their stuff, I'll give them credit for that and they work on just about every kind of heating system, but the service is lousy as far as being able to get the ball rolling, because of all the hoops you have to jump through. It is a paperwork issue and non-friendly office procedures. They don't want cash or even a cashier check or money order, but only a credit card or debit card, and even with a pre-paid VISA gift card they balked at it and frowned upon it, like somehow I was beneath them to be helped by them, because my GREEN CASH wasn't good enough. I have paid cash before for oil delivery by them and with no problem, but for repairs they have a different set of rules. The girls in the office also put you on hold a lot, like they have to check their script to see what to say, or like they have to run everything through Papa Bear to make sure it's ok. As if they don't know what to do. Then to top if off, I've only gotten 3 hrs a sleep per night for 3 weeks due to "hammer noise", a sound that a boiler makes when it has air in the system, and they weren't even empathetic to my situation. I also explained that I've had 3 other people let me down and although each one has made some progress, the problem still isn't fixed and a new problem was created in the process, but one of the owners/ managers seemed skiddish to help me because 3 other people had, and I guess he didn't want to get involved. That same manager also said he would not help me because I was upset, so he said, "I will not help you today." Yeah I'm upset, because I've had little sleep, and no one has fixed the problem after 3 weeks, which I've paid for 3 times, and now they want to have some deeply involved registration / app process and being difficult to work with and an uncaring attitude. You bet, I'm a little annoyed. The owner/ manager acted like I am somehow beneath him as far as helping me with my problem, and I say he is beneath me for putting me in a position for denying to help me and let me go on with no help, no fix to the situation and still no rest. Instead of saying, . . . gee I see you have had a rough time, let us help you - - but no instead he said he would not help me. Lousy rules, lousy management, and uncaring. And to do this near Christmas (Dec 11) - - won't soon be forgotten. And Merry Xmas to you. Bah-humbug. read more

I am typically not one to write poor reviews but we had Kelleher come out to fix our air conditioner over the Summer. They said our unit needed more Freon so he added the Freon and our A/C started working again. After having to follow-up with them several times about billing issues, we called several times with the hope of getting to speak with someone or get them to call back, but ultimately ended up just paying them. We recently were having issues with our heat. We had another company come out and to fix the heat, he had to drain the Freon because Kelleher had put too much in. I do not recommend using Kelleher for any services. read more

Awful experience and TERRIBLE customer service with Kelleher. We asked them to come service our HVAC system and asked for an estimate to improve airflow in our attic. We were charged labor for the estimate and we did not authorize any work to be done. When trying to resolve the issue, they refused to speak with us on the phone and would only communicate via email. I am giving 3 stars because I am not certain what, if anything, is going on with this company. We have used them for years, they have installed central air, a new gas furnace, a portable generator connected to fuse box , as well as serviced our plumbing and heating needs for years. The technicians are prompt, curteous, and efficient. They are not the least expensive company, but reliability and efficiency counts for a lot. However this summer, when I called for routine AC checkup, I had to wait 2 hot weeks for the appointment. Now, I am planning to install an automatic standby generator. When I called for estimate appointment, was scheduled five days out. However, three hours before the appointment, the estimator calls to reschedule " because of the weather". This is a rainy week, but I informed him that there is no rain in my area, in fact, it is sunny! Of course no one can promise no rain, but this seems like a flimsy excuse, especially since he could not reschedule until next week, altho today is only Wednesday. Really? Feels like there is little interest in keeping long-standing customers. Reading the Yelp reviews from the past couple years leaves me concerned. I have always trusted them. I am keeping the estimate appointment, but purchase is not the "given" I thought it would be. read more

I would seek the opinions of at least two other companies in Richmond to compare pricing and be sure they stand behind their work. Too many options to settle. J have used Kelleher several times. The last time I used them, I wanted to wire a potable generator to be able to run my entire house. The device that I had purchased would have worked, but the electrician suggested a better alternative. I purchased the new device and had them come back to install it for me. One of the A/C units stopped working. Called and had someone out within 2.5 hours. It did take him a long time to find out what was wrong, but that's probably because a breaker had been chewed up. Overall great service and the technician was friendly and even "tiptoed" as to not wake my sleeping baby! Will use again, although hopefully not for awhile ;) read more

I purchased a water heater in 2010 and I have had problems with it every year since purchase. It was under a warranty and it covered the parts and I had to pay labor costs. The response to service calls was slow. Not happy and would be cautious about doing business with them. read more

** Simple fix ** cost too much $$$$ This company nickel and dimes you for everything and even double bills, which is not right. I had an issue and needed a new heating element, which takes 10 minutes to get the part from the truck and fix. They did not have the part on the truck and had to go get one. Because of this, I was charged a delivery fee $35 and billed more for additional time. Thinking everything was working, the tech left and give me a bill for $290. 10 minutes later I noticed the thermostat flashed and it rebooted. Concerned, I got on the phone and called and left a vm and stated the issue/what was happening on the company's voicemail. I also stated I wanted to make sure this is not another call (billable) since this issue was a result of what the tech did the day before. Next morning they checked it out and said it was because the unit was not put back together correctly. Now, I got another bill which was not actually given to me, but told to me over the phone for another $99. I called in and talked to the company and they stated the 2nd visit was not part of the same problem and was not going to work with me but could help me by lowering the bill from $99 to $62, really!! They billed me for time they didn't spend the day before to test and then billed me again the next day. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!! THIS IS YOUR WARNING!!! Use anyone else!!over charged by $138 read more
