My only possible concern is the total bill of $900++ for the visit( our first experience with the company). we expected about $400 of it but $500+ of it was for refrigerant which I did not expect. I'm not saying it wasn't legit but it gave me a little nagging thing . We'll see how things go in the future. read more

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE FOR DUCT CLEANING! THEY WILL DESTROY YOUR HVAC SYSTEM!!! They go through your air intakes and destroy the coils causing major damage. I had to have my system replaced ($10k) because of their incompetence. And when I reached out, they could have cared less totally blew me off! Go somewhere else! read more

We had our unit installed some 15 years ago by Howells and have had to replace the A coil 3 times or more since. Lately we have been having issues with one room being 5-6 degrees hotter consistently than the rest of the house and have been told it was a dirty filter and possibly the ducts need to be cleaned. Neither of these 2 items are the cause of the issue. A couple years ago we had to replace a capacitor to the tune of $400. Quality is lacking overall I beleive. We also pay for annual check ups and they dont include filters in the cost. I have to purchase them and then usually have to remind them to change the filter. We paid for what we thought was a top of the line system and overall have been dissapointed in what we paid for. read more

Howell's Heating and Air Conditioning seemed like a good company but after replacing an outdoor AC coils the tech had promised to replace and cover the coils with some new insulation to prevent further damage to the coils. After the work was finished he had only put some sort of white tape around the broken insulation instead of replacing it. When I asked him about that he said he didn't have it in stock and will come back to replace it. After contacting Matt twice, he finally came today in our absence to replace the insulation on one of the coils but unfortunately only did half of the coil while the rest of it is still covered with some white tape and the old broken insulation. We paid in full, exactly what they had asked for and would like to get the job done right as well. We would appreciate if you can send someone to take care of it and cover the entire pipe or coil with a proper, complete insulation. Update: Be aware that they don't really have a yearly service agreement. I initially signed up for what I thought was a yearly agreement but it's actually a prepaid furnace checkup in the winter and an AC checkup in the spring. Be careful to schedule these appropriately if you plan on renewing this each year. It turned out my 2 furnace checks were within 9 months of each other so I don't consider this to be a yearly check up. I believe the company should explain this service better. Also I was supposed to receive emails with work summaries and schedule reminders. I never received any because they misspelled my email address. There should be a way to confirm email addresses to assure a customer is receiving the proper communicated information. read more

Chris and Cardell came over to take a second look at the install and corrected every concern I had in my previous reviews. These guys were super friendly and seemed knowledgeable. The system now looks good and I trust, as much as possible, that it is now installed correctly. IMHO, I probably would have rated Howell's 4 stars if these guys had installed the system the first time and I didn't have to deal with the stress of a new HVAC breaking down and seemingly poor workmanship. Maybe my install experience was a rare occurrence, but maybe not! YMMV. read more

Highway robbery! My AC stopped working so they came out and told me I need a new capacitor and some refrigerant. Paid over $700 for the service and you guessed it, AC stopped working 3 days later. Had another rep come out who told me the new capacitor blew the fan motor and wants to charge me over $700 more to fix when there was no mention of the fan motor in the initial report. Tony is my service guy. He always comes on time when he says he will. Courteous, professional, and takes the time to explain everything I need to know about my system. He went above and beyond to help me with testing a gas fireplace and told me how to maintain it. He didn't have to go above and beyond, he just does. They could not have been more responsive! I called on an extremely hot Friday evening at 4:50 pm because my home temp would not cool below 80. Technician was out in less than an hour & performed a full evaluation. I was not surprised to learn I needed to replace the unit as it was over 20 years old. Howell's provided us with a portable unit and brought it out that evening Since it would be the following week before a new unit could be ordered and installed. I have used Howells in three different homes and I've always been pleased with their service. They go above and beyond to accommodate. I recommend having a maintenance contract to prolong the life of the equipment and save money along the way with unexpected emergencies such as this one. read more

We have been very satisfied with their service - they are prompt and clean and their twice a year maintenance has been great. The monthly payment option is also a easy pay method. No cooling on Sunday 08/12/18. Called emergency and the on call tech was having many calls so he said will email to the service dept. Got a call from service on Monday 08,13 at 7 17 and tech came out at 10 and found out the evaporator coil got leak. Got an email with a quote in the afternoon. Quote approved. Wait for part. Got a call on Tuesday part was in but no time for tech to come out so tech came out at 7 on wed and finished up by 1030. Techs cl Kenney and jack? did a very good job. read more

My unit was not blowing cold air so they came out the next day, replaced a $12 part in about 20 minutes and charged me almost $400. They have lost me as a customer forever. read more

In a nutshell, we are long time customers of Howell's. The most recent experience says it all. Email to website at 11:30pm on the first frigid night-Help! Heat no working correctly! Return call from office at 7:15am. Technician at 8:30am. Toasty warm by 10:00am. Kind & professional employees. There is no room on our go-to list for anyone but Howell's. Howell's was recommended to me by my contractor ~4years ago. They replace a perfectly functioning HVAC system which was too small to support the size of the house. As such, I had an entire new ~$30k system installed by Howell's. The installers, service staff and switchboard lady (Nancy) have all been nice throughout. That said, I have had a several issues with the system which have caused a lot of grief over the years. Being a new system and being serviced semi-annually one would expect the system to work well (ideally perfect). No. After 4 years we have finally solved one puzzle which cost additional $$$. I don't have so much a gripe having to pay as to the fact that it took 4 years to solve. Second issue: Due to an issue with the ductwork my ceiling was damaged. I thought it was a roof problem but when the roof was replace the issue persisted. It was finally determined to be a duct issue. Six month later I am still waiting for reimbursement (check in the mail!). Third. There is a recurring issue of the air-conditioning not working - usually during a heat wave. I estimate this occurring a handful of times per air-conditioning season. So far this season - twice already. No fix yet. One would think that an established company like Howell would want to stand behind the quality of their product & services and avoid this kind of scenario. read more
