We had the replaced a water heater and they never tightened the gas line. They charged $4500 for the water heater and we went months trying to figure out what that smell was. They came out for a check for plumbing and said it smelled like gas. They tried to charge us to repair it at first but ultimately gave in and fixed it free of charge. Then we scheduled for them to do a maintenance check on our hvac, green checks all around... but strangely the AC broke the next week. To my understanding though, that would include looking and checking the actual unit, which clearly they did not. We had them come out again and the tech didn't give any real answer. Said it could be a compressor, there is a leak (without ever going into the crawlspace mind you), and it will be close to $6000 to replace a line and to find the location of the leak. The tech continued to say the would need to put solution in the line so they could identify were the leak is and that takes a whole week. Also, there was something wrong with the compensator and connector were broken. This HVAC IS 4 years old! We had another company come out, they identified the leak and wouldn't you know..connector was fine, compressor was fine, compensator was fine. They noted the HVAC is new and there is nothing wrong with it, aside from that tiny leak. With that, the company who came out to repair what FH Furr tried to charge us thousands for was a much better service. They didn't try to upscale us either, which was a breath of fresh air since we were new customers to them. FH Furr, I truly wish you would provide adequate service and not nickel and dime. Not everything is about a buck. To keep and retain your customers, you need to meet them more than half way. read more

Technicians Gabriel, Nico and Jimmy are rockstars. I should know, I spent over $25k to have a whole house generator, a frost free outdoor spigot, an outdoor power drop, and two Nelson heated automatic horse waters installed on my small horse farm. They worked in snow and mud. They stayed late. They were kind and courteous, with great communication. They loaned me water hoses and electrical cords to keep my water trough functioning in the snow storm while installation was ongoing. They asked me where I wanted the extra dirt from the trenches dug for the electric/water lines, and spread it nicely. They navigated my work schedule to obtain signatures they needed. They asked for nothing up front, and gave me a fixed price. They even played with my dog! I couldn't ask for more. I'm a customer for life! read more

Beware!! Anyone that has plumbing problems do NOT use Furr Plumbing !! My friend had a back up they charged her 1500 and did not clean up behind themselves. After they quoted her $1000 they still couldn't get the clog out so they told her that they had to cut a pipe underneath the house. They provided her additional paperwork with another $500 to cut the pipe. She is a senior and the print was very small and I guess in the fine print it says that they do not clean up any debris left underneath there,It was her responsibility. It has been three days and they never even bothered to call her back. She had to call another company to come out and they contacted them to find out what was going on.This was never explained to her before doing the work. This company's been around for a long time they do all of her work AC ,water heater, etc. she has warrantees with it all. She spends a lot of money with them every year. I just wanna make sure everyone's aware if they're doing any business with them. read more

We have a maintenance contract with FHFurr. I set up an appointment with them for our fall maintenance service this morning (before noon) and I get a text from them at 12:21pm apologizing for not being able to come out because of "unexpected " issues. Also, rather than having the courtesy of calling me they instructed me to call them to reschedule. They have canceled on me several times and I am getting tired of it. They have no regard for my time. I cannot recommend this company and suggest you take your business somewhere where they appreciate their customers. read more

Called FH Furr to have them look at our furnace that would not turn on. Technician arrived a little late, but not the issue. She looked at unit, took lots of pictures and determined that the heat exchanger had cracks and needed to be replaced. Quoted $10,000 to replace entire unit due to age and $4,000 to replace the heat exchanger. Pushed hard to have me make a decision then. Spoke to a few friends and called another company. The unit is now working after a one-hour repair of the condensation pump. They also removed the heat exchanger and could not find any cracks, rust or any issues. Clearly, this is a complete misdiagnosis by FH Furr or an intentional plan to create additional unnecessary repairs. Will never call FH Furr again. read more

Never ever use F H Furr for plumbing! They take advantage of older folks who don't know better, when they charged almost $700 for a PVC Valve that cost less than $10 at Lowes and Homedepot, which they also charged 2 hours of labor. That is fraud!!! So be ware and watch out. read more

Terrible upsells tried to tell me 18-25K for an American standard 3.5 ton unit. Even the most top of the line system with all the bells and whistles will not cost that much. Avoid these scammers at F.H Furr at all cost and Benjamin Dugan is a liar and con man. He was like a pushy timeshare salesman and when I told him I was getting other estimates he was visually upset. He kept trying to lock me in to 15 year financing at 13% interest. The company uses pressure tactics like efficiency discount where if you lock it in on the spot during a consultation they will give you a "discount". Do not fall for this. read more

Loved the service I got from Short Pump Heating & Air, so I called this joint to schedule for routine maintenance. The call was forwarded to the "overflow" line and a message was left. Two weeks later and still having not received a reply to my call, I contacted The Plumbing Officials to do the maintenance for me. (Sorry but I'm not hounding any company to take my money.) Not only did they respond straight away on a Saturday, but they also offered to do the job over the weekend. Looking at reviews from people who were unfortunate to have FH FURR respond, I'm kinda glad they ghosted me. One thing FH Furr will do is prohibit you from unsubcribing from their email entirely.While it will allow you to unsubscribe from marketing, it will not allow you to totally unsubscribe. Called for service in the morning and was told that they would have a plumber come between 12 and 4 pm. They stated that they would contact me an hour before the plumber would come over but when I asked at 3 pm I was told that he was going to be late. I left it at that but when 4 pm came and went I called them and asked them to see where the plumber was at that time and they said they no longer had a plumber available so it would be tomorrow before they would be able to send someone. They lied to me up front and again later when I questioned if they were going to keep the appointment. Don't use this company!! read more

I requested a quote and diagnostic review to/repair a dual gas ac/heat system for the 1st floor of my 3 story home. The unit is a Goodman. I was told it was not repairable and that replacement cost for a comparable unit was $23,500. Another company's technician came out 2 hours after the FH Furr technician and charged me $300 to replace the igniter to the unit. I am outraged at the discrepancy. Never use this company. They sent a technician to my house to repair an upstairs AC unit. The technician didn't really have any answers and in fact, I heard him on a cell phone asking someone for advice. Every 10 minutes he would come to me with another option to pay more money but couldn't provide any details (kept saying it could be a lot of things). He eventually put coolant fluid, cleaned and a few other things for $1800. he said it might leak again but wasn't 100% sure. After 5 days, it started to leak so bad it was 'raining' in my house through the drywall. I called a competitor and within 15 minutes at being at my house diagnosed the problem and provided options. They also fixed the problem that FH Furr could have fixed. The other kicker, the other company only charged me $350 to correct the problem. All they care about is selling you something new. The summary of my recent HVAC service experience could be described as: Dangerous, Incompetent, and Lazy. I was having an issue where my gas furnace was short-cycling and turning off before the thermostat temperature was met. I had several companies come out to diagnose and none could identify or fix the problem. This speaks loudly about the competence level of many so-called "reputable" HVAC companies in the Richmond metro area. F.H. Furr takes the prize and is the epitome of Dangerous, Incompetent, and Lazy. I was met by a service tech sent by the company to diagnose and repair the issue. Although the tech was friendly, he was far too confident in his abilities and knowledge of HVAC systems. When discovering the furnace was a 2009 model, he immediately went into the mode of making a case for a $14,000!!!! replacement. Context- this is a 80K BTU, 90% gas furnace for a 1600 sg ft space. STRIKE #1! He then proceeded to take a series of photos showing some discoloration on the heat exchanger. He claimed the system has a crack in the heat exchanger but, had to evidence to prove that claim. Those photos don't provide the evidence. STRIKE #2! When asked how much it would cost to replace the heat exchanger he stated it would be about $11,000 and would not make much sense when a new system would be $14,000. When challenged about the outrageous cost estimates, he started in with the sales propaganda about warranties and the reputation of F.H. Furr. STRIKE #3! And here comes the final strike- He condemns the furnace, disconnects the gas and power to it and fails to reinstall the component parts he disconnected while inspecting it. STRIKE #4! This technician is Dangerous to the reputation of F.H. Furr, he didn't properly diagnose the real issue with the furnace- earning him a badge of Incompetence and he was Lazy by not completing a process of vacuuming out the drain lines to unblock a potential clog in the line. I had another technician scheduled in about 45 minutes to inspect the furnace and did the hard work to discover that the drain line was blocked and caused the system to short-cycle on and off without reaching the desired temperature. The system has now been running perfectly for days in this 15 degree temperatures we're facing in Richmond. I can't imagine how many customers are duped and scared into thinking they must replace their furnace when it's 15 degrees outside. And, hopefully, this company is not training their technicians to employ these sleazy sales tactics. I've used F.H. Furr a few times before and have been satisfied. However, after this exchange, I will never use them again. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones to be guilty of rendering really bad service. The range of prices quoted to repair this issue was $14,000, $1,098, $589 and $99 (this was the amount spent to fix the issue by a competent and qualified technician. Very sad, but true. F.H. Furr- hopefully the owner will sit down with this technician and have a come to Jesus moment with him. Overzealousness combined with lazy incompetence is dangerous to the organization. read more

Signed up online for a simple hvac service call. An appointment date and time (12p to whenever) is set then. The day before the appointment, the texts and calls start coming. They want to confirm, over and over and over. The appointment is made. What more is necessary? I reply to the text, YES I want you to honor the appointment you agreed to. Of course. I am trying to work and these people seem to think I have nothing else to do but confirm, again and again. This tells me that they are accustomed to dealing with a certain low level of people and do not know proper business behavior with regards to appointments. So, the 12noon appointment I confirmed several times has now passed, it's 12:05pm and no sign of the expected work crew. I have never seen another hvac company do this before. My advice is do not waste your time dealing with these people. Any other company would be a much better bet. Follow up later - they did show up 20 minutes late. Long story short, had to call the office to verify the price, which turns out to be the third price between the website and the phone call. The guy on the line was not really sure about the price. :) And the $75 new customer discount does not apply because apparently an inspection is not service. So that's bs. Any judge in town would call that false advertisement, and using the USPS to send it made it a Federal offense. Yep, that's real. I just scheduled James River at more than twice the highest price these people quoted. They may be overpriced, but at least I have a reasonable expectation that they will show up on time and do the work correctly at the quoted price. read more

Jimmy Nguyen performed the annual maintenance on my Generac generator this morning. He arrived on time with a smile on his face. I showed him the location of the generator, and I had quite a few questions regarding my system-36kw Generac. Jimmy had no problems answering my numerous questions before he began working, then, upon completion, he took me back to the generator and showed me the work he'd done. Again, Jimmy was very patient in answering even more of my questions regarding potential work that should be done in the future. I'm one of those pain in the butt customers who ask an abundance of questions that take far more time to answer than the company has given their employee to complete each job. At no time did Jimmy get irritated, annoyed or frustrated due to all my questions. Jimmy is a knowledgeable technician and truly an asset to your company. Please convey my comments to Jimmy, whomever manages him, as well as the owner of F.H. Furr. Also, I ask that you put a copy of my review in his employee file so that the positive comments that I've shared with you will result in an appropriate annual raise, as well as merit raise because he deserves it. From my experiences, this is not the company you want if you are counting on responsiveness. I previously wrote a review on three consecutive substandard experiences with FH Furr. As a follow up, I have been attempting to get pictures of the air handler units which the technician took and told me he would send. I called the Richmond, VA office for the second time requesting them. They acknowledged they sent a previous message to the technician to send them (evidently fell on deaf ears). I also called a higher up supervisor who I had called previously and once again got the voice message asking to leave my number and he would "call right back." "Right back" did not happen yesterday and has not happened again today. I am not holding my breath. read more
