I decided to eat here on a whim, and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Kebab Cafe! My waitress was extremely friendly and attentive, and made me feel welcome despite the restaurant being busy. I wish I had tried this place out sooner! If you are looking for good Mediterranean food in Humboldt County, this is it. I enjoyed a lamb/beef gyro and enjoyed a cup of Turkish coffee - both were delightful, and portioned just right. I was also pleased with the beautiful decor and the cleanliness of the restaurant. I noticed that each table was wiped down immediately after a guest left. I'm looking forward to eating here again! I'm so glad that the Kebab Cafe is now on my radar. It is now on my list of favorite places to eat in Arcata. read more

Absolutely outstanding Gyro! Packed with beef and lamb in pita One of the best Gyros I've ever had. Seriously! I wasn't crazy about the heavy cumin in their hummus but that may be personal preference. Also grabbed some Turkish meatballs... they were fine. Not bad. Son and husband talked me into this place while visiting. I haven't had food that I've loved at Greek restaurants but......as soon as we entered we were greeted with a smiling lady. Food smelled delightful and tasted even better! Excellent ice tea is always a plus. Delicious and priced very reasonably. They even offered some yummy homemade sauces. I know some not very nice lady left a horrible review about the restaurant being filthy. It is an older shopping center but I didn't see anything that looked dirty or unsanitary inside. read more

Very popular with locals -- but we couldn't figure out why. We were there on "flag day" (June 14th), and not all of the tables were full, but it took quite a while to receive our order. Sadly, after reading the reviews, we were quite disappointed. Everything seemed substantially overcooked (or not fresh, or both -- we decided it was merely overcooked). The prices were higher than expected for what is barely above fast (though not really) food. Staff members were quite friendly and seemed to have no clue that what they were serving (at least to us) was of comparatively poor quality. Our party (of 4) ordered several appetizers, mains, and some sweets, for afterward, but all agreed that we should have gone somewhere else. Dried out. Nearly flavorless. The worst middle eastern food I've ever eaten. The baba ghanoush was $4.50 for this little container- I normally get 8oz for the same price at other restaurants. It tasted like they whipped it with water. The pita was dry. The dolmas were hard and dry. Never again. read more

This restaurant is located by a selection of hotels and is not indicative of the food quality in Arcata where there are some superb restaurants. First the positive; the staff was really lovely. This restaurant has a nice vibe and the people working in it were helpful, pleasant, and seemed to enjoy their work. The restaurant is located in an aging strip mall area. They have vegan options, but be aware that the grill did not appear to be well separated between vegetables and meat. The food portions (especially the hummus I ordered) were quite small for the price. That would have been fine if the food had been good. Unfortunately it wasn't. The falafel I received was burned, and not well seasoned. I love Mediterranean cuisine, have eaten at many establishments, and prepare it for myself and others sometimes. In all fairness, this falafel was less appetizing than some I have had out of a box - and it was badly burnt. The hummus was surprisingly bland (I was left wondering what brand of tahini they are using), and lacked any fresh lemon or garlic kick. The ingredients may have been in there, but the ratios just tasted off and not pleasant. I love hummus! This was literally some of the poorest I've ever had. The side salad veggies with my falafel plate were dominated by a pile of raw onions; which was a bit strange. I wanted to love this place. I wondered if they might be cutting corners on ingredients to save money or something. The restaurant was busy, but again it is sitting by a row of hotels. Maybe they should bring in a professional restaurateur to evaluate and update their recipes - there is a ton of potential here and a really nice staff at the time I visited - but this was some of the worst take-out I have purchased in a long time. read more

I've been coming here since I was in high school and the service and food have always been really good. Unfortunately, the last few times I've been have left me feeling a bit disappointed. I Placed an order tonight on the phone for pickup for a gyro, a gyro burger, hummus and soup. When we got the order home, we realized they had given us a falafel burger instead. When we called to report the error, the same girl who had taken the order (and repeated it back to me) claimed that we ordered the falafel burger. I know mistakes happen and I am certainly not perfect, but even the friends I had over agreed that I sad gyro and not falafel. She offered to remake it but we would have to pay. I am never one to try and get anything for free but I just feel like that's not the best customer service. I love supporting local businesses and I do enjoy the food but the last time we ordered a gyro burger they forgot to leave off the Mayo and then the time before that, the soup was inedible. I'm sure we will be back eventually but just really disappointed in our last few experiences. read more

Kebab is amazing! You can phone in your order or place it curbside and wait. If your passing through Humboldt you must try this hole in the wall. Recommendation: Gyro Burger or Double Gyro is my favorite. The atomic mushrooms are also very good but... spicy as heck. These ladies are kicking ass and taking names. Have you ever been to Arcata? Well, this was my first visit and while I was expecting some beautiful scenery, I was not expecting to find some great Mediterranean food. Ordered the Mediterranean chicken salad, dolma, tzatziki, hummus and baba ghannouj. Salad was fresh and chicken did not seem previously frozen. Unfortunately, the portions of our additional sides were on the smaller side. The hummus could have used a bit more flavor; perhaps more garlic like the tzatziki. We loved this place. They serve a good variety of very flavorful kebabs. We got mushroom, veggie and shrimp. The place is rather popular and for good reason. It's divey but the food didn't disappoint. I am grateful for vegan options. I was staying in a hotel across the road and was looking for a local restaurant takeaway. I love chicken kebabs I read the reviews that said they were dry and had no flavor, I was hungry and thought how bad can it be? Any Greek restaurant knows how to cook chicken kebabs. Turns out they where worse then the reviews. Calling them kebabs is totally misleading they are strips of chicken that have been put on the grill. There is no seasoning there is no flavor I fed them to my dogs. I have never written a negative review. read more

I eat here regularly. Everything I have tried has been excellent. I enjoy the chicken plate and gyro plate and will have to try the beef plate (I think they have that). The fries have a nice seasoning, and the rice is also delicious. The plates come with a vegetable salad and dressing. The dressing is great. The chicken is seasoned and cooked well. It tastes great. Very Americanized Mediterranean food. Service was good. Dolmas & fried cheese app was good, but the dinner plates & kabobs were very bland and low quality. Popped in after seeing it mentioned on social media - the menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. I AM SO GLAD WE DID! Nondescript from the outside but nice inside. The staff was welcoming and friendly and the food was OUTSTANDING!! We shared a few apps - the dolmas were fresh and flavorful. Hummus was nicely spiced and the pita was warm and soft. The fried halloumi was TO DIE FOR! I highly recommend dipping it in the house made mango hot sauce. Hubby also got the atomic hot mushrooms - I didn't try them be he said they were wonderful. Entrees were kebabs - hubby got one lamb and one vegetable. I got one shrimp and one mushroom. Everything was thoughtfully seasoned and grilled to perfection. Portions were small enough so we didn't regret ordering so much but generous enough to be satisfying. And the prices were so reasonable.
