I try to stop by the Kebab Cafe whenever I'm passing through. This place never disappoints. If your mouth and taste buds aren't doing back flips after a meal here, you may want to stick to Mac n cheese or Top Ramen. I love the Atomic Mushrooms, Meat Skewers, Baba Ganoush, Hummus and Peta bread. If you like things hot, try the Habanero sauce. One of my favorite places in arcata. Too bad the location is in the strip mall off Giuntoli. Small place with six or so tables and a bar where you can sit and look at yourself in the mirror while you eat. Not good for large groups. Awesome Gyros. Turkish coffee too. There were some hits and misses for me when eating here. It took me a few times to figure out what I liked, but the service was always great so that's why I kept coming back. The good: Gyro with hummus, the service, the fries taste like falafels The not so good: always cold inside, the tables are a little cramped together, and the gyro burger is just all the fixings for a burger with gyro meat instead of a beef patty. I've been on a Mediterranean food kick lately and you knew I would find some AMAZING food while spending the weekend in Arcata?? The place is legitimate! The gyros and falafels are amazing! Had to get two orders of hummus and the baba ghanoush was soooooo smooth. The Turkish coffee is made the modern way (no sugar). Got some take out tonight (Friday night), we just walked in and made an order. They didn't take too long, very reasonable amount of time. The food was really good, we got gyros, taboolie, dolmas and the chicken soup and it was all really good. The gyros had a great flavor and were pretty big, a little messy but I'm not complaining. The dolmas are very good as well, lots of flavor and fit the classic flavor profile for a dolma. All in all very good! We will be coming back for sure! read more

Alley pup is still napping in the car....too much swimming and fishing. Her humans found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It's located in a strip mall but once your inside at a table it's easy to forget. We ordered a gyro burger, fries, falafel (2), baba ghannouji and a pita. The gyro burger looked bomb and I was told it was super tasty. The baba ghannouji was good but entirely too small for the price. It's served in a side cup that should cost a dollar. It was $3.75 which was steep but there is no competition. The falafel was good and not dry at all. The fries were steep as well for the portion. It was small for a large. Overall not bad but we won't go out of our way to come here. The staff were polite. read more

We enjoyed our food (gyro, Mediterranean salad, gyro/rice plate). Everything was tasty, and their outdoor order/takeout setup was pretty good to be able to practice social distancing (clean pen area, etc). There may have been a mixup with our order and we possibly didn't receive part of the order, but we're not sure we were charged and it was bad communication between my husband and I, so I won't hold that against them- do check your order, though. read more

After a long road trip on winding Highway 299, I stopped at Kebab Cafe. I loaded up on the vegetarian dinner plate, mediterranean salad, falafel sandwich and baklava. I've been to a lot of falafel joints over the years and I'm usually satisfied but the food on my plate was just average. The falafel was dry; and, the small salad was nothing more than tomatoes, lettuce and peppers with a sprinkling of feta. The overpriced vege dinner plate was simply lightly charred vegetables on white rice with a side of tzatziki. My meal wasn't bad but there was just not much depth to the ingredients or the preparation. Considering some of the other reviews that praise this place, I hope my experience was just a bad night on the part of the staff. I'd gladly return, though, to try my luck again. read more

This joint opened up a year or so after I graduated and left Humboldt County. I would have so, loved to have frequented this place had it been there in my college years. Inside there are lots of travel posters/photos of Turkey. I went for my standard: falafel wrap. It was pretty dang tasty. First off: Their pita is vegan so almost everything besides meat and cheese is available to vegans. They have everything marked on the menu too. Only complaint is that green = vegetarian and blue = vegan. Kind of similar colors, but it's easy to tell since green is basically just the cheese stuff. Aside from that, this place rocks. I am an omnivore and my wife is vegan and this place works very well for both of us. I was surprised we've been in Humboldt 2 years and haven't heard of it. We stumbled upon it one day while driving around and just now came back... we'll certainly be back often! The falafel was good, the red sauce is vegan and good for my wife, she loved the Mushroom kebab, and my Gyro was quite good. The hummus was some of the best I've ever had. Really, I have no complaints at all. This is my favorite type of Mediterranean food (Casual-ish, not trying to be overly fancy) and can't wait to eat the menu. It seems like Turkish dishes are the main focus, but they also have dolmas and some other Greek dishes. BTW, the Turkish Delight is vegan, and very good! I got the Veggie Kebab Skewer which was a little too salty and the Tabouli Salad which was a bit bland. Wouldn't recommend them. But my dad got the regular size Falafel Sandwich which was huge! It was pretty tasty and little spicy. The pita bread was soft and the falafels had good flavor. Definitely a hole-in-the wall place, which I'm not opposed to. Delicious place. Thick slices of gyro meat. You gave your choice of 2 different sauces. Fresh cucumbers and tomatoes. They also add cabbage which I think is a new healthier trend instead of iceberg lettuce. I wish they added more tzazaki sauce since I thought it was a little dry. Certainly decent quick and humble fare for Arcata with its few options for Middle Eastern food. The one thing I wish they'd improve is the quality of their french fries. This is the "only" Mediterranean food in the region. And it is definitely priced accordingly. This said, it sure isn't too shabby! Ingredients are fresh. The gyro is pretty good. Nice hot sauce! I'm not a fan of the dolmas (they're not quite flavorful enough for me). The falafel I've had here is repeatedly drier than dry (but well dressed... so who really cares?) This isn't the land of low-cost deluxe belly full meals that this cuisine has been for me in urban lands of my yesteryear. It's a higher premium way to scratch an entirely necessary culinary itch. Came in for lunch and it was fairly busy. Clean environment and friendly staff that explained to me their popular items. I ordered a Gyro, extra lamb kebab and falafel. The total came out to $17.xx, which I thought was a little expensive. The falafel came out first and it was mediocre. The texture is what you expect from ground up chickpeas, a bit on the grainy side. There was a dominant flavor of curry, but it might have just been the cumin. The tahini dipping sauce was delightfully creamy and cool. For $1.65, I would not get it again. After a few minutes, my gyro was brought out. The extra lamb kebab was included into the gyro, which made it almost impossible to eat cleanly. The cabbage, tomato and cucumber were all fresh. The meats were perfectly seasoned, but I would have liked the lamb kebab to be served separately. The lamb was obviously the better meat choice and the gyro meat detracted from the lamb. Holding all the ingredients was a perfectly soft and a bit chewy pita bread. They offer two hot sauces, a traditional and mango. The traditional was FIRE! literally. The sauce had a bright flavor, while being on the spicy side. I enjoyed my entire meal and felt the heat for the next 20 minutes going home. We drove up to Arcata to have some redwoods time, someplace that would hopefully have not too many people ( we got lucky, and it was perfect) and the brewpub we planned on was filled with mask-less folks , in the parking lot, so we grabbed some beer at a store and stopped here . SO glad we did!!! The most flavorful falafel that I have had in a very long time. each bite was spiced exquisitely..the sauces were delicious. M my partner loved their Donner wrap ..was sad they missed the turkish meatballs. We came back and had it again for breakfast when we left. Covid safe and friendly and DELICIOUS!
