    Pork egg rolls and banchan
    Tamiko D.

Looking for a place to grab food near my hotel and this had the best reviews nearby so I figure I would try it out. It's in a little strip mall the inside isn't very large so it wouldn't be ideal for large groups but perfect for a family dinner or like me an individual looking for something authentic and tasty. The waitress was super friendly and checked on me multiple times throughout my meal. Service was definitely awesome. Now there was a lot on their menu that I was interested in, but I decided on Soft Tofu Stew with beef, a two piece pork egg roll, and a milkis to drink (it's a canned Korean soft drink). Now I love spicy food and normally restaurants say something is spicy but then it's very mild this actually had kick to it. I could have eaten it with more spice but it's definitely has a kick. Egg rolls were nice and crunchy with the right amount of flavor. It was the perfect amount of food also served with banchan (Korean side dishes) all well made and flavorful. Wish their kimchi was spicier but that's a personal preference. Overall great place and would definitely come again to try their other menu items.

It is a tiny place with a few tables but has a great atmosphere! I believed it is a family owned restaurant which makes it good coz you know everything that they served is home cook meal in a restaurant. We visit High Point every year and every time we are in town we hit Kaya Restaurant at least 2-3 times before we leave the town. The server is always smiling and very attentive to what costumer's need and all the foods is good especially the bibimbap and seafood soup.

Solid quality Korean & Chinese food, that's really authentic! The hibachi specials at lunch isn't great so just skip it & be adventurous and order a Korean or Chinese dish. Service at dinner time is more of table service but at lunch isn't order at counter then they bring to table service. It's a hidden gem Aince it's in a shopping strip & not along the 68 HWY.

Small mom n pops place in high point. They offer hibachi plates Monday through Friday. I ordered the chicken and shrimp plate. It was delicious. We especially loved the spicy sweet sauce they provide. Service was super and quick. The place is definitely a gem. A must try in high point for a quick meal.

Sesame chicken, "fried Rice", vegatables I think

Not the best quality, the women didn't understand me because of the language barrier and didn't put in the order I wanted.

Kaya is a little spot that packs a big punch with its flavors. If you're searching for authentic Asian cuisine, this place is definitely worth checking out. I recently visited and tried the Stir Fried Spicy Pork and the Beef Chow Fun. My first experience with Beef Chow Fun was a few years back in Chinatown, NY. I've been obsessed ever since and have been on a quest to find a local equivalent, and Kaya's came close. The Stir Fried Spicy Pork was also a winner; spicy enough but balanced with great flavor. Our server was attentive, and happy to answer questions/make recommendations, which was much appreciated!

A friend in Greensboro has been raving about this restaurant in High Point (just minutes from Greensboro) for awhile now...so I finally made plans to visit her and this gem of a restaurant! For starters, I must mention that I found it strange that this restaurant is advertised as Japanese-Korean...given how it's basically a Korean restaurant, with at least 90% Korean specialties. Really, the only Japanese items I saw on their menu were Tonkatsu and Udon. The entire staff seemed to be Korean as well. In any case, this is a completely authentic Korean restaurant...as far as I can see it! Am thinking they added the word Japanese since most folks are more familiar with Japanese foods?? The place was casual, but had a nice, comfy layout and ambiance (complete with K-Pop on screen)...and a super-friendly menu! In fact, they had this pictured menu of all the dishes on the big screen, with price points...many of which I MUST return to try (like their Galbijim, my favorite Korean food of all time!). Anyway, my friend recommended their Tangsuyuk...and she was totally right. It was one of the best I've had in recent years!! They even had this "Jjajang-Tangsuyuk Set" on the menu, which came with a HUGE bowl of Jjajangmyun, a generous portion of Tangsuyuk, Kimchee and Takuan. Jjajangmyun and Tangsuyuk are my favorite Korean food combo...so this set was an obvious choice....and was definitely enough for 2 to share! Jjajangmyun was delicious also, but I thought it could have been spicier. Still, I was impressed with their "meaty" version...with generous chunks of savory beef in them! Although it didn't have that deep, spicy Jjajangmyun flavor, it still had this great, luscious flavor. Still, the Tangsuyuk was stronger of the 2. Overall, this combo meal was a was SUCH a satisfying meal...and all for only 22 bucks!! I just can't believe it took so long for me to take a road trip over to this area (less than 2 hours from where I live). In more ways than one, this trip was so overdue...and well worth it!

Kaya is a hidden gem for amazing Chinese-Korean food! The jjajangmyeon is rich and flavorful, and the sweet and sour pork is perfectly crispy and tangy !! It's absolutely delicious. Everything we've tried here has been top-notch. Highly recommend if you're craving comfort food with bold flavors! It seems like it's family owned restaurant and people that worked there seemed pretty authentic! Food came pretty quickly and service was top notch!

    重庆鸡 Chongqing Spicy Chicken

MY FAVORITE MEAL during my trip to NC came from Kaya Restaurant: 重庆鸡 (Chongqing Spicy Chicken). It was SO FLAVORFUL & SPICY! But first, let me explain. After a brief, but pleasant conversation with the order-taker, I asked him: "What do you recommend? Something with chicken & very, very spicy. What do YOU like most?" "How spicy?" he replied & I raised my hand up high & emphatically stated "I like VERY, VERY SPICY!" He told me, "this is what I like" (pointing to the menu) "but it is very spicy and it is Chinese, not Korean." I assured him that that is what I want -I eat very spicy. He then said it would take 30 minutes because they are very busy. "No Problem," I replied & eagerly awaiting my meal. I would guess that in ~15 mins he brought me the most delicious meal I've had this entire trip! 重庆鸡 (Chongqing Spicy Chicken) looks very simple. It's basically fried cubes of chicken. It didn't appear to be battered & there were no signs of dry seasoning. No sauce. Would it be dry? It did contain TONS OF dried red chili peppers. Scary! Yet it ended up being so delicious! The chicken was full of flavor -ginger, garlic, the peppers & who-knows-what! With my chop sticks, I started to avoid the dried peppers & eat only the chicken with the rice. I highly recommend. I want more! The people are super friendly & the restaurant is small but very busy. Y'all know if I'm ever anywhere near this area -I'm coming back!!!

Tasty food at a good price! The ambiance was charming and homely. Service was prompt. The food tasted authentic, side dishes were nice. Portion sizes were very filling as well. I would recommend the oxtail soup!

Fantastic service and exceptional food. The spicy squid and that was the highlight of dinner. Korean and Chinese owners that are delightful to speak to and know how to cook!!! So good!!!

(3.5 stars. Food alone would be a solid 4 stars while overall dine-in experience would be a weak 3.) Located at 3925 Sedgebrook Street in High Point, Kaya offers Korean and Japanese cuisine. Lunch specials are available. Tucked into a shopping center off 68 near the High Point-Greensboro border, Kaya hits a number of hidden gem checkboxes: it's unassuming and easily overlooked, it's family-run and popular among locals, and the food is, by and large, good. That said, I would hesitate to give this place a rave. A no-frills establishment, Kaya is nevertheless quiet and clean. It offers a familiar selection of hibachi dishes, but Korean is the main draw here. A large, pictorial Korean menu greets you upon entry. For those seeking authenticity, dishes like spicy squid or braised pig trotters let you know that you are in the right place. My wife and I opted to split a seafood pancake, a bimimbap, and a spicy pork. As expected, they came with an array of banchan, and portions were plentiful. Though food quality varied, nothing was worse than average. The spicy pork was delicious. It was served hot with onions and slathered in a delectable sauce. The seafood pancake's dough-to-seafood ratio favored the former though it was still quite tasty. That said, the bimimbap was a mixed bag. I appreciated the array of vegetables included though it was fairly light on meat. It also was not served sizzling, but that was my fault for not realizing that I needed to order the dol (stone pot) version. Staff here are polite, but they will leave you alone unless you specifically request something. Chalk it up to custom rather than any kind of intentional indifference. For what Kaya charges (entrees in the teens), the plastic silverware and styrafoam cups felt like penny-pinching. The variety of Kaya's offerings and the quality of the spicy pork alone make me want to give this place another chance, but I would probably opt for takeout rather than dine-in in the future.

    Jajang Tangsuyuk Set
    Wan P.

This spot is always good. They have Korean and Japanese food. The Japanese is hibachi. Today I wanted to eat the black beans noodles with fried pork with a sweet sauce. N2- Jajang Tangsuyuk set! Everything is cooked to order and fresh. This dish is $21 but with tax is about $25. But you get a lot of food.

After placing a call to Little Tokyo to confirm they too weren't filled to capacity, we headed there for our sushi fix, and it made me regret not having visited sooner. Little Tokyo boasts a pleasant, relaxing ambiance that made it a welcome refuge from the night's rather intense rain. The menu here is Japanese (sushi, sashimi, hibachi, etc.) albeit with some Korean and Chinese influences. The selection of sushi rolls is extensive, and quite a few of them sounded intriguing. Admittedly, the Italian (a California roll topped with white fish, tomato sauce, and cheese) was a bridge too far even for me. My wife and I came hungry and went with two apps (steamed dumplings and vegetable gyoza), four rolls, and two misos. The food was, across the board, quite good. Whereas some miso can blast you with salt, Little Tokyo's broth benefitted from an underlying richness. Our sushi was beautifully plated and tasted fresh. Of the rolls we tried, the Bulgoki (beef, crab, cucumber, and eel sauce) was my favorite. Prices here are reasonable for the quality of the food (rolls in the low-mid teens, most apps under $10), and severs are polite. The kitchen isn't lightning fast, but we didn't find the wait unreasonable. Based on ratings, I expected "good," and based on hunger levels and a desire to be out of the rain, I would have settled for "OK." Little Tokyo, however, ended up being surprisingly great.

We were heading to AVL for my bachelorette and throughout the weekend we kept going "GOD THAT RAMEN WAS SO GOOD!" We came on a Wednesday evening. They have mens and womens restrooms at this restaurant. And a lot of free parking out front in their parking lot. We started off with an Alaska roll as an appetizer. This was really delicious! We knew we were off to a great start. I got the black garlic ramen and my best friend got the red spicy oil ramen. We were in heaven. This ramen is beyond delicious. He (an African American male) was treated terribly from the moment he went inside. First, the receptionist acted funny toward him and non-friendly, as if he was stealing someone else's order. That was strike number 1. Then, when he got home, we realized our order was absolutely wrong. We were missing the Spider Rolls and the yellow tail. We spent almost $70 so of course, this was irritating. He called the restaurant on his way to get the missing items and once again, the receptionist was rude. She questioned if he knew what yellow tail and spider rolls looked like. Questioning and insulting his intelligence as a grown man. That was strike number 2. He asked to speak to a manager and he said there wasn't one and he would need to come tomorrow to speak to one....yeah ok. He told her that wouldn't be necessary because he was pulling up to the restaurant in about a minute. When he came in she continued to argue with him about his order and told him, he needed to bring it back...why would he bring back the items that were right in the order, when he was there for the MISSING ITEMS?! Not to mention, that's extremely unsanitary! She would not help him but instead argued so badly with him that the chef had to come out of the kitchen. The receptionist spoke to my husband as if he was a child. She talked to him as if he was a thief and a liar. Strike number 3. The chef then told my husband, he would take care of the missing items for him and to not worry. Now, why couldn't the receptions in treat him with the same respect and dignity that the chef did? I'll tell you why. She racially profiled him because of the demographics of the city where the restaurant is located. She treated him as if he was uncultured, ignorant, and a liar. We will never be back and will be sure to write every single person that matters and leave reviews all over the internet exposing this racist establishment. I will be sure that everyone knows exactly what happens when a black person enters the restaurant.

Inside was very clean, staff super attentive, and the meal delicious. While not as popular as they used to be, I still think a teppanyaki table dining experience is super fun. I like the entertainment and theatrics part of it all. This time since we came closer to closing, our foursome got a table to ourselves which is even better. Our Chef was very entertaining, friendly, and presented us with a very generous portion. To start we ordered some bottles of cold, filtered sake to share. For my Hibachi Dinner Entree, I ordered the Scallops and Chicken Combination. For the proteins themselves, I got my scallops first. They were varying sizes, but had a good sear on them all. Super buttery and yummy. Chicken was the last protein prepared but once received it was very tasty. As standard, the meal comes with the Japanese clear/onion soup which has a few mushrooms, broth, and some little noddles in it. I love soup so I am always happy with this starter. It was warm, flavorful, and a larger sized bowl than you get at similar places. Next is the salad, for which I selected the robust ginger dressing. It's a basic green salad, but the robust ginger is supposed to be a bit spicier and has a deeper color. Not sure there a was major difference from typical ginger, but I liked it. Up next is my personal favorite, the fried rice. We were given so much fried rice, wow. I was glad to see they still include egg even with prices going up. The rice was super fluffy and flavorful. The zucchini and onions were sautéed nicely in soy sauce and again a huge portion, which makes you feel a bit better to eat it with more rice. They still do the 2 appetizer shrimps here which was a nice surprise. Finally, the sauces. It might be the best part of these places. I kinda feel bad saying yes to every sauce they offer, but I love them all. Ginger, White, Hot Sauce, Teriyaki, and Hot Mustard. I don't know what Japanese restaurants do when they make their Hot Mustard sauce, but it is far superior to any bottled option I have tried from a Grocery store (they are just too horseradishy it's so much more balanced here). Wish I could buy it by the bottle. I also like to mix Sriracha in the White sauce, it cuts down on the sweetness a bit. I ate so much and still had a full to-go box to take from for another meal (honestly two). So while an entree price in the $30 and above range may seem high, you are getting appetizer, entree cooked to order, and another full meal. It's a great (and delicious) deal. Fire and Stick is a little bit of a drive from home for me, but I was extremely satisfied with my meal and recommend!

Since then, the half price sushi hours are no longer in effect, replaced with more standardized lunch specials and combinations. Three basic rolls for x, two specialty rolls for x, etc... as well as specials on hot food and the like. Due to this, I just haven't found myself there very often, and until my experience last week it had probably been two or three years honestly. We came during lunch hours on a Saturday. The lunch specials are good every day, not just weekdays, so that is a good thing. Ordering was simple enough, still done at the counter, given a number, go have a seat. Drinks still self-serve, no wait staff or the like which is totally fine. We ordered a general tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll, a basic two roll combination of sweet potato tempura and Ro Roll, and a two speciality roll combination that I honestly cannot remember the specific names of. There were also crab rangoons. My first area of dismay, even though we were eating there, everything came in to-go containers creating a ton of trash and waste. Plastic utensils, cups, everything. This was not the case in the past. I guess they've done the financial math that it's cheaper than dishwashing, but it's terrible for our environment. It would have been better if things even came combined on paper plates than this. As to the food, we were disappointed. Nothing other than the sushi and maybe soup appears to be made there, definitely true for all fried things. Rangoons came with plain duck sauce. Egg rolls the size of your index finger. Sushi wise, the sweet potato tempura roll was the best of the bunch. The fish tasted fine, nothing off putting there, but also nothing pleasant. The flavor combos just didn't make me want to eat more... and they were all crammed into to-go sushi trays with dry horseradish ("wasabi") It is not common for me to leave sushi pieces for the trash, but I did this time. Ultimately, the things that used to draw me here just didn't seem to be in place. But the price isn't bad at all.
