I've been eating at China City for over 20 years, and even briefly worked here delivering when I was in college. While it's a relatively impressive looking storefront in a rundown and half empty shopping center, I have always had great experiences with the food. Items are prepared fast, fresh, and always taste great. From working here, I know that many of the items on the menu are made fresh in a house (eggrolls, chicken teriyaki appetizers, sauces, etc.) and you can tell from the fresh quality. Like many restaurants at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, China City closed their storefront and transitioned to a strictly takeout or delivery model. Granted, before that happened, it was extremely rare to see somebody dine in and there's has always really been a to-go establishment. I recall a time when there used to be a buffet, but it was never busy enough to maintain. Recently, they have reopened the storefront and put out a couple of tables for inside dining and you can actually walk inside to pick up your food from the counter again, and it's nice to have that interaction with the owners which has been missing for years! To get in line with modern times, it would be nice to have online ordering as an option, but I've never had difficulties placing a telephone order and the food is always prepared very quickly. read more

The food is always good and authentic, but they give you too much broccoli and no beef. Whatever you ordered they give you a bunch of noodles and rice to cover for the meat. The service is good. They have good service and you don't have to wait long. it's always a great place to go. It's really safe for the ambience. It's safe and you can take kids there, but they don't give you enough for me and the food. A a lot of noodles and broccoli no meat for the price. read more

I'll never In my life eat here again with their disrespectful asses. I ordered some orange chicken and rice and the chicken was horrible and it was hard and over cooked. I wished y'all could learn how to cook. The manager was very disrespectful that worked on June 15, I ordered about 6 so y'all can know what manager worked that day. These people act like they didn't want to give me another plate so that's why y'all got this bad review. So I advised everyone to go somewhere else. Now with their rude asses have pissed me off. So China City became my favorite Chinese takeout while I was living in Thomasville over the last few years. Their meals were cooked well and consistent; a couple times our egg rolls were overcooked and their dumplings are a bit doughy but other than that, this has been our go to! General Tso's chicken, Happy Family, House Lo Mein, Sesame Chicken and Shrimp with lobster sauce has been our favorites. Our favorite apps and sides were steamed dumplings (the dipping sauce is DELICIOUS), egg rolls, spring rolls, teriyaki chicken on a stick and won ton soup. This place is so racist as they are gross. Last time we ate there there was a fly stuck to one the the pieces of chicken in my general gso combo when I called to inform them of the issue i was called liar. Today I saw the delivery driver deliver to the hotel I'm staying at on n main in high point. And asked him where he was delivering from he told me China city so I called and was lied to and told that they don't deliver that far. You know those little places that are in the darkest, scariest parts of town that always end up having the best food? Yep, this is it. This place is tucked in the corner of a deserted shopping center with a really sketchy Dollar General and a few shopping cart stalls randomly placed in the middle of the parking lot to make you complete the slalom course while trying to go get your take out order. Called for delivery. Ordered The Sesame Chicken combo plate. The chicken was soggy like it was cooked hours earlier and reheated. The pork fried rice tasted old and just had a bad flavor overall. Ordered here for the first time and was very pleased. Not many places deliver where I live, so it was a nice break from pizza. The sesame chicken had very little breading which was great! I've had Crab Rangoon everytime at other chinese resturants and love it so much that I have to have it everytime. However, when I ordered Crab Rangoon from China City, I almost made me throw-up. I called and voice my concern (TONY) the owner and his exact words were, Ok, ok, ok, sorry, and slammed the phone in my ear, I called back to attempt to get my delivery receipt adjusted (at least for the Crap Rangoon (10) and he shouted from the back ground ."We refund NO money"!!!!! Best orange chicken I have had, hands down in a long time, ordered the chefs special orange chicken, large portion easily feeds two, great orange flavor and fresh looking broccoli. I ordered to have my food delivered. I could not understand the woman on the phone and when I gave her my card number she hung up without saying a word. I thought I had been scammed! About hour later I got a phone call and it was a man telling me that my food was at my apartment complex but I had to go get it. I started to do that, wondering what kind of service is this? The man was on his way so I met him half way up my steps and signed for my order. I ordered boneless spare ribs combination, 8 hot wings and the hot and sour soup. They have a $12 minimum and do not mention a $2.00 delivery fee. My food came to $18.09 total. The soup was very sour like sauerkraut (there was cabbage in it) and there was no spice to it for the "hot" part of the soup and it was thick. The egg roll had at first no cabbage but the last bit ha some "traces" of cabbage in it. They did not include any hot mustard sauce which I love on my egg rolls either, just 1 pack of duck sauce and three packs of hot sauce which really was over kill because of the small portion of food. The hot chicken wings were not hot and I think they may have put one squirt of Texas Pete and rolled all 8 of the wings in that because there was some orange color to them but no heat. They did not even include a fortune cookie! One thing I o have to say, although the portion of the boneless ribs was very small and there was mostly fried rice on the plate (still not enough for a descent portion) those boneless ribs were cooked to perfection!!! The fried rice was pretty delicious too! Every other Chinese restaurant deep fries the boneless ribs and drowns them in some super sweet sauce these were roasted and tender and melted in your mouth but I had about 6 small pieces. The rice tasted fresh like I used to get in NYC. I would next time like to go for lunch and eat in so I do not have to spend close to $20 for a portion that I consider a small lunch plate. I am all for the value of a dollar. I hope they keep up the delicious way they make those boneless ribs but please give bigger portions!!! read more
