I had called China Garden one month ago to reserve 3 tables for lunch on a Sunday. The woman answered the phone told me I could have a corner table since they did not have private rooms. Once I got there I was shown 3 tables but not at a corner. I asked the manager (owner?) that I requested a corner and he answered, "Yes, that's the corner, by the wall" Just ludicrous. Apparently he gave the corner tables away for someone else. Dimsum was so so, nothing great. All in all, it was really bad quality dim sum and food. There was no service, no one came by to refill water, (we ordered so many dishes that wasn't room for water pitcher), no one asked us to order tea. When the bill arrives, they charged us 3 chrysethemum tea for each table at $45. When I mentioned our table didn't get tea, he deducted $20. He counted tea as a head count, we had 30 people. Also charged 18% gratuity on top of tea money. In the past, tea money was considered part of gratuity and there shouldn't be a 18% gratuity at dim sum because there was no service. Bill was almost $800. Not going back again.

Had dinner here on Saturday for dinner. Dim dum carts that go around during the daytime were not around for the evening. However individual dim sum plates can be ordered on the menu. The rest of the menu was eclectic and diverse, with many traditional dishes like chow fun and lobster Cantonese as well as unique choices like Beef Sauteed W Agrocybe. We had fish filet with vegetables, sizzling tofu casserole and mapo tofu. All entrees were generously portioned and arrived piping hot. Fish was tender and sautéed with ginger and yu choy. The tofu casserole was fried tofu wedges with shiitake mushrooms, black fungus, bean sprouts, yu choy and snow peas in a savory brown sauce. Everything went well together. The mapo tofu was not too spicy but still has a good kick of chili. Service was attentive and polite. Dining area was spacious. Will be back.

AMAZING dim sum, love every dish! I also love going for dinner because you can still order dim sum. The staff are busy but are still attentive to you. The space inside is big, like a traditional dim sum restaurant.

Been here before for dimsum and dinner and it's been touch and go, but I was really craving crispy pork belly and their fried donut wrapped in rice noodle. Well, the restaurant definitely needs to update their online menu because they don't offer the fried donut wrapped in tice noodle anymore. Anyways, I ended up getting the roast pork (and double checked that it will come with the crispy bits) and the crispy beef lunch combo. The pork belly (roast pork woth crispy skin) was warm and super tasty that I didn't need the hoisin sauce. The lunch combo is HUGE for one person! It came with a soup of your choice (I chose the wonton soup which is made out of pork), the entree, and a sesame ball (which was stuffed woth lotus root). Overall, it was a great meal - I was stuffed and service was great, but really disappointed they didn't have the one thing I was really craving. Don't forget the restaurant offers complimentary parking actoss the street with a validated ticket.

Came here for a late lunch on Sunday with my family, and we got seated right away. We opted for their dim sum menu. I guess they only have the dim sum carts in the morning which I didn't mind. We ordered the dumplings, shu mai, shrimp rice rolls, steamed and roast pork buns, Singapore noodles, peking duck, and chicken feet. The food took a little bit more time to come out, but I like how we could just keep ordering more food without waiting for carts to come by. Also the food was fresh. I really liked the shrimp rice rolls, shu mai and pork buns. Sooo good. Also, the pineapple bun. Loved how it was not too sweet. I'm giving it a 4 though because I think some of the dishes were a little bland like the noodles. The service is amazing though! Our server was really nice and attentive throughout the entire meal. I would come back here again.

If you want real Cantonese Chinese food- this is the place. During the week dim sum is ordered via menu vs cart. Weekends have the cart delivery with a large assortment of dim sum. Today I was craving duck and the duck here is 5/5 stars. Hands down for taste, meat quality and portion. The chow fun - dry- cooked perfectly with tender beef. The fried rice had a nice toasty flavor if the seasoned wok and Chinese sausage made it more delicious. The Szechuan string beans had just the right crunch and salty and spice. Service was quick and friendly. The dining room is roomy with a stage for private events. I will be back again when I come to visit DC area.

China Garden Han Gong is one of the very few Cantonese restaurants in Rockville. Five of us came here for dinner a couple Sundays ago. We were also here the same time as a wedding event that was happening. Unfortunately, we were able to hear everything due to the lack of sound proof walls and the sound system set up. We ordered a couple dim sums and three entrees to share. Side note, if you want tea here, they charge 1.50 per person. The chrysanthemum tea we got was a bit weak. A7 蠔皇叉燒飽 STEAMED ROAST PORK BUN - 5.50 Each order comes with three buns. The buns were steamed pretty well and we thought it had a good ratio of roast pork and bun. The roast pork was pretty flavorful. C1 原隻大蝦腸 STEAMED SHRIMP RICE CREPE - 6.50 Each order comes with three shrimp crepes cut into halves. The soy sauce they used was well soaked up by the crepes which were thin and slightly chewy. Shrimp was fine. G1 蠔油中芥蘭 CHINESE BROCCOLI WITH OYSTER SAUCE - 15.75 The portions were pretty sizable and the Chinese broccoli was fresh. I thought the oyster sauce was really watery. Either way, this was a good vegetable option if you aren't feeling the string beans or pea shoots. F3 幹炒河粉 (牛) BEEF DRY CHOW FOON - 16.95 Very classic option for dinner if you don't want to venture out. I found this to be pretty bland -- at least it's not too greasy. Lots of wide noodles but not a whole lot of beef. I have had better elsewhere. R11 荔蓉香酥鴨 STUFFED CRISPY DUCK WITH MASHED TARO - 29.75 Each order comes with 12 pieces of duck. This takes a bit to prepare (20-30 minutes) but it was pretty worth it. Each piece of duck was coated with mashed taro and deep fried with a delicate, crispy layer. Each piece is pretty dense/rich from the taro and the fatty skin of the duck. I was not able to eat more than 2-3 pieces myself, so definitely a great sharable if you are eating with a bigger group. Overall, the food was not bad and the service is decent if you speak Cantonese or Taishanese.

Great DimSum all around. Everything is always fresh and delicious. the servers are always friendly, and check up on you often. It can be a little noise when it's busy, but it still provides a great atmosphere. The Young Chow fried rice is a must order! The roasted pig is also so perfectly done every time. This place has one of the best wonton soups IMHO, simple and delicious. The only reason I do not give it a 5 star is because of the timing of the food. Sometimes, the larger dishes can take a while to come out while the dimsum comes out much faster.

A healthy dish. A bit of weird smell from the cured fish but savory taste. Be careful, the dish is hot. Mix with rice and a bit of pepper sauce decreases temperature increases taste. Price of the restaurant is reasonable. Thought price would be higher because the restaurant is big. Found the price is the same as another small Chinese restaurant.

$136 for four adults and two children is what I'd call a pretty good lunch. We had the usual picks: chicken feet, shrimp shumai, pork buns, pork ribs, red bean pastry, pork char siu, veggies, and a couple of others. The food in general was good. I wouldn't say the dim sums would blow your mind away but they would satisfy your dim sum cravings. The environment is definitely loud. If you want a relaxing or quiet place to eat, then please avoid this restaurant. The service was great. The waiters were always around with the carts which meant that the dim sums were always fresh.

8.1.23 Love that this restaurant has patrons select items off the dim sum menu versus pushing around the cart so the food can stay hot. Food came out fast and everything I ordered was delicious. I ordered five "tapas" and was only able to eat half. I brought the leftovers to have for lunch tomorrow. Our server was fine, but didn't really check on us once the food was brought out to us. My friend had to flag him down to ask for our tab and boxes. Parking is available in the lot across the street, which says $7 and can be validated. I did not know and we parked in the garage, which is free for the first two hours. The garage on level 2 looked sketchy. Carts are abandoned there and it looked creepy. I would not feel safe parking there at night even though it's in Bethesda. This may just be my new fav dim sum spot in Maryland. Just wish their dim sum menu was more extensive.

I went to Dim Sum on a Sunday early afternoon, and my party and I were met with a ton of people crowding in the restaurant entrance. Once you enter, you let the host know how many people are in your party, and they text you once the table is ready. It was actually a rather short wait, no more than 10 minutes. I guess having all those tables inside helps!!! Our experience was pretty good. All the food is delicious, no doubt about that. None of the dishes particularly surprised me or were more amazing than a dim sum restaurant I've been to before except for the juk (rice porridge). Their rice porridge is delicious and salty, and also has some pieces of century egg!! Some of the dishes, like the shu mai, shrimp crepe, did not come very hot. They were kept warm on the carts but didn't taste super fresh. Many of the same carts kept coming around, so after we were there for about 20 minutes, we saw all the options that were being offered at the time. We didn't receive any menus, and we didn't end up ordering anything a la carte. I think the latter two aspects would be the only feedback that bumped it to a 4 rather than 5 star experience, but it was still a fantastic Dim Sum brunch!

Is this affiliated with the China Garden that was in Rosslyn VA and closed?

    Same owner.

Are they doing dimsum these days?

Yes, they have dim sum for lunch and dinner on weekends.

What's the dim sum hour on Saturday now? Thanks.

Is validated parking located at garage under Whole Foods?

No, it's an outdoor parking lot across the street. Restaurant validates parking.

    Do they have reservations?

Only for groups of 10 or more.

Is this a new management, or same management in a new location?

Some of the management is the same but not all of them.

Is there dim sum (from the menu) in weekdays?

    Yes

Has the new location (Rockville) opened yet?

    Yes

Is this the same restaurant that used to be in VA? (the one close to the rosslyn station)

Yes, it's now in a large fancier location in Rockville. They even brought a lot of the furniture and supplies over from the VA place. But they are in a soft launch transition now so the food may not yet be up to their usual quality yet. But I would… Read more

We arrived right when they opened around 11 AM on a weekend and were seated immediately since it wasn't too busy yet. One thing to note is that the entire party needs to be present before being seated, which they enforce, but it helps keep things moving smoothly once you're inside. The service felt traditional and efficient, with attentive push carts circulating constantly, making it easy to see what's fresh and grab dishes as they come by. The staff were also accommodating with a baby seat, which made the visit comfortable for families. The steamed cart is always my favorite, and Far East does it well. Standouts for me were the shrimp rice crepe (silky and delicate), shrimp dumplings (har gow) with plump, juicy filling, and the steamed ribs, which were tender and flavorful. The chicken feet and tripe were also well prepared -- classic dim sum staples done right. I also loved the sticky rice, which was fragrant and satisfying, along with two must-order bakery items: the pineapple buns and egg tarts. Both were fresh and comforting, with the egg tarts having that perfect balance of flaky crust and smooth custard. Overall, Far East delivers a solid, traditional dim sum experience -- lively carts, reliable favorites, and a welcoming environment for groups and families. Great spot to gather, share dishes, and enjoy a relaxed weekend dim sum meal. Definitely glad to have seating back again.

Far East is a longtime staple in the DMV food scene, having been in operation since 1974. I was a few times a year patron leading up to 2019, and the last time I was there was in 2023. During my 2023 visit, the place was showing it's age with dingy matted carpeting and cramped dining room. Against my better judgement, I made the trek into Rockville to meet up with some folks for Sunday dim sum. IMHO, while it's true at one point, VA dim sum was inferior to it's MD siblings across the river, I'd say there are plenty of comparable if not BETTER places in VA. Our group was large (15), so we had to dine at two tables, as the largest table could only accomodate12. And note, for dim sum, Far East does not seat incomplete parties, so everyone arrive early. Also note, if you do choose to dine here, the parking lot is fairly small - but there is additional parking towards the back past the dumpsters. My recollection from 2023, was the selection of dishes was quite limited, and the 3-4 ladies who were pushing the steam carts, were peddling the same items over and over. That experience has not changed in 3 yrs. Upon sitting, our hungry group ordered dishes of shrimp dumplings (har gow), shumai, tofu rolls, rice rolls w/shrimp and beef, etc. Everything was fine; but nothing really stood out. The items were lukewarm, and cooled within a few minutes of being passed around the Lazy Susan. To me anyway, I found many of the dishes to be underseasoned...and when does a person characterize Chinese food as not being SALTY enough? The table chili oil was also quite bland. There was a good mix of fried chilis combined with oil, but there was just a hint of spice/heat with the predominant flavor being a heavy greasiness. Perhaps the worst part of the experience was the service. Even accepting that Chinese restaurants are notorious for "providing" legendary bad service, Far East exceeded that reputation. I understand that it was Sunday and the place was busy, but it took over 10 minutes for water and tea to arrive. And a few times, I literally had to get up from the table to flag down servers to refill empty water glasses and tea pots. Piles of dirty dishes kept piling up to the point where a few of us, took them to the bussers and food runners ourselves to make space for new dishes at the table. However, the worst incident was at the end when the servers and what I assume was the manager, rushed us to pay the bill since they needed the table, one of the staff was hurriedly cleaning the table, and spilled an entire glass of ice water on my friend's dress! He didn't even apologize, and when she went to complain to the manager, the only thing he said was, "it's only water, it will wash out." Wow! even by Chinese restaurant standards, that's bad!!! When the bill arrived, the total came out to roughly $35/person with tax and tip (gratuity is already included for larger parties, so be sure to double-check the bill). The meal was definitely NOT worth the $35, and for that amount, I could've had a much better and filling meal at Peter Chang Herndon - https://www.yelp.com/biz/peter-chang-herndon?osq=Peter+Chang This will undoubtedly be the last time I travel to Montgomery County for dim sum...and especially to Far East Restaurant.

A solid spot for sharing with a group, and I'd happily return to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to love this place. The soup dumplings are among the better ones in the area. While the wrappers aren't as thin or chewy as the very best, you can tell they're handmade, and I'll always appreciate that. I'd recommend sticking with the pork soup dumplings since they were rich, savory, and full of umami. The crab version unfortunately didn't have any noticeable crab flavor and tasted almost identical to the pork. The duck came in a generous portion and is a great choice for anyone who enjoys sweeter flavors. The watercress was fresh and plentiful, but it could have used much more garlic. We ended up adding the wonton chili oil and dipping it for extra flavor. The cucumber was delicious, but the portion was way too small. The bean curd was cooked well, though there wasn't enough pork for a dish that was supposed to feature it. The fish was another highlight with light spice, a crispy exterior, and perfectly cooked, tender meat. Overall, I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. I enjoy the home-style cooking, and it's the kind of restaurant that's especially fun to visit with a larger group so you can sample a variety of dishes.

I've also enjoyed Ma La Er Si (sliced pigs ears with hot and spicy seasoning) and Pi Dan Dou Fu (tofu with Thousand Year Egg) - things I doubt will EVER show up on a menu in my hometown. And the dumplings: oh my. I think I've tried them all, and haven't found one yet I wouldn't order again. The only downside to A&J (besides it being a drive for me) is their cash-only policy. Fortunately there are lots of nearby ATMs, but beware if it's your first visit. Prices are very reasonable and portions are perfect, so overall value is great. If you haven't been, go now, and work your way through the menu. Trust me, you'll thank me!

If you like Taiwanese food, this is your place in Rockville! Back in the day, circa early 2010s,…read morewhen Baltimore did not have much of an Asian food offering, my friends and I would make the long drive to Rockville to have lunch here and do some grocery shopping nearby. I have kept this place in the back of my mind, with fond memories, however, have not visited in some years due to multiple moves around the country. Recently, my friend was organizing a casual gathering for our friend group, and asked ChatGPT if there were any good recommendations for food in the area that was affordable and delicious, and A&J came up as a top choice. So I came back to A&J after almost 10 years, and the food was just as good as I remembered. The decor remained simple and unchanged, but this is very typical of Asian restaurants. The menu was large, and it's easy to order by circling items you want on the paper menu. We had a mix of noodle soup bowls (so many different flavors and styles) and appetizers, and everything we tried was delicious. Our bill came out to less than $25 per person with tip. I could imagine more pretentious Chinese restaurants downtown upcharging a lot more for lower quality Chinese food (Queen's English, for example). It was so good and affordable, that I actually ended up coming back the next day with a different friend. Overall, excellent experience, and I will be back again soon! One interesting tidbit, my coworker who grew up in the Midwest and only eats meat, potatoes, absolutely no vegetables, started going here for lunch and loves it. I think flour-based items (noodles, dumplings, buns) are really the star of the restaurant, and this can be enjoyed across different taste palates! I hope you will give this place a try.

The staff is friendly, the dining room is small and cozy, and it is almost always packed on weekends--so plan accordingly. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are excellent and a must-order. We also enjoyed the fried turnip cakes, duck dishes, rice cakes, and other classic Shanghai specialties. It is a convenient, satisfying spot when you are craving comforting Chinese food with bold, traditional flavors. Bonus: Carman's Ice Cream is just a couple of doors down, making it easy to finish the meal with dessert.

We ordered the soup dumplings along with some other popular dishes we saw other tables get. The soup dumplings had good flavors but the wrapper was not as thin as I would like it. I would rather get their pan fried dumplings which were super juicy and had an amazing crisp bottom layer. The green beans were my absolute favorite as they had a nice snap/crunch while maintaining the spicy/garlicky wok flavor. The scallion noodles were also surprisingly good as they looked bland but actually had lots of flavor from their fragrant scallion oil. Although I would not come back for their soup dumplings, they have other amazing dishes that I would absolutely come back for! Entrees: Pork Soup Dumplings, Pan Fried Soup Dumplings and Scallion Noodles Sides: Stir Fried Green Beans and Bean Curd Salad
