Well dang, what a surprise this place was! We have a clear cut favorite Chinese take-out place normally, but the rest of Greensboro ALSO has that same favorite (IYKYK) and on peak nights, the wait can sometimes be more than an hour, so we needed a backup. I like a place in Jamestown that is a little closer, but my wife doesn't like their noods quite as much, so I suggested we try this place that was just a little farther. The only negative I have for this place, is it is located in a SKETCHY shopping center. Ever since the Food Lion moved out (there's always a Food Lion), the amount of light in this parking lot is extremely low. At night, it doesn't present well, but really, it's fine. Just stay alert, and with the low amount of cars, you can just pull up in front of the restaurant where it is more well-lit. The food though. YES. Great portions, reasonably priced, and as another reviewer mentioned, you'll find more meat and maybe even better meat, in your orders than at other places for the most part. We kept this first order basic. Orange chicken, beef lo mein, steamed dumplings, and crab rangoons. Kind of our basis for comparison to all other places. The orange chicken, first thing you notice, big pop of zesty orange flavor. Check. Next thing you notice and I would say even makes it better than our favorite... much lighter thinner breading on the chicken chunks. This means more meat, and a more satisfying bite, especially once the chicken gets a little cooler and loses some crispiness. This was a winner. Beef lo mein. Noodles were excellent, amount of beef, also excellent. No toughness or gristle. We were super satisfied with this. Crab rangoons, pretty standard quality. Steamed dumplings, probably not something we would go for again, as these were your basic gyoza. Our fave place on Bridford hand makes their steamed dumplings and that quality shows. Egg rolls, were good enough to order again, but nothing amazing. Accoutrements like crispy noodles and white rice, all good. Even the fortune cookies, NOT STALE! This was a treat, and a tough thing to find. It's clear to me why this place can continue to do well even with the shopping center losing that grocery store anchor. The Black Pepper Chicken and the Mongolian Beef are awesome - fresh tasting meat, vegetables limited to what is in the classical versions, not over-sauced at all, a reasonable amount of heat, outstanding portions, making great value. This is my go to Chinese place...I've given it great reviews for the last few years, however some things have changed, and not for the better.. We ordered the steamed dumplings, which are one of my favorites, and I ordered them almost every time.. The dumplings looked too perfect, not the usual minor imperfections of the handmade dumpling..the filling was pale and flavorless, much like the frozen ones we've bought from the market...(not good) I won't order them again.. The crab rangoon, another favorite, this time the dough was different, the filling was similar but the dough was thick and yellow, not the light crispy ones I'm used to getting here, I won't order these again, either. We also ordered the wonton soup, and the hot and sour soup, the hot and sour soup, could have had more heat, but otherwise the soups were good.. I really like their food, I think they use better cuts of meat than other Chinese restaurants. But last night I noticed that the amount they charged my credit card was 4% more than the amount on the receipt. Maybe they were charging a credit card fee, but they certainly didn't make that clear which I don't like. Most people pay with credit cards, so if that's the case, they should just raise their prices. It is a real hole in the wall, takeout place, but that doesn't bother me. We are extremely leery of Chinese food. However, some family was adamant that we had to try the chicken wings from this place while visiting them. They ordered a 50 piece. Ok driving from Greensboro to Charlotte and making a quick stop. I order 2 chicken lo mein & human beef with crab Rangoon. Family meal alright... it was 945 pm. This place was in a dark parking lot place. Not sure what the daylight looks like, might b busy but it was scary at night so my kids n I did not stay n eat in there. Took the food to go n ate in the car. Hunan beef is ok. The lo Mein had no taste, bland but the crab Rangoon was super good. I don't eat Rangoon often but this was actually really good! I have been coming here for the past 5 years and since it went under new management things have changed.....not for the better......the dumplings are no longer homemade. I can tell they are like the ones I have bought from Sam's Club. The lo mein is using a completely different noodle and the garlic w/chicken has different ingredients. Never had a problem with the food when I'm in town, was a go to spot. After several attempts of calling in orders, being told 10 minutes and arriving 20 minutes later or no sooner than 15 minutes, driving to give them more time to have it ready. I'm still being told once I get there, 10 minutes. They're just taken the chicken out of the frig. I like the spot. But if they're not going to cook my order like they state on the phone, just be honest. I know it's a concept for people, but I would respect that more than a lie regardless of how the food is. Ate there a few days ago. The food was okay, nothing I would go out of my way for. I was traveling from out of state, saw this restaurant and thought I would give it a try. This is basically a take out joint. There are no salt and pepper shakers or sauces...everything is geared towards takeout. The few tables that were in there were mismatched. Good spot, it's a sleeper due to you really can't see it in the strip center. The winner here is they have a good consistent taste. I've ordered several times and each time like the first. The small things matter, who gives out free tea. More of a lemon rather than a sweet, sugar southern tea. Only down fall, whenever I call an order in. I still end up waiting 10 minutes or so for them to prepare it. What's the point of telling me ready in 10 minutes and having me get there in 15 waiting another 10 for them to do what they said they would do earlier?
