    Beef and shrimp lo mein
    Erik S.

Been a long time since my original review, so I just wanted to do an update to say that all is well here. Located where it is, I don't get the chance to just swing by often, but it's an excellent place to meet someone when in the mood for delicious Asian goodies in Winston-Salem. I recently got to catch up with a fellow Yelp Elite here (Fred B) and give him some well earned Yelpies awards I had been holding for him... including honors for his 1000th and 2000th lifetime review, and the Yelptime Achievement Award. Congrats Fred. Anyhow, our lunch did not disappoint. I was in the mood for dumplings and a pile of noodles, so we went with the pork soup dumplings and I got a beef and shrimp lo mein. My friend had I believe Dan Dan noodles. Orders were taken promptly, and the food came out in about 20 minutes piping hot and fresh, presented nicely. The dumplings were substantial, a little on the doughy side like I like them, and biting into them was a burst of flavor, broth and tender pork. My lo mein was a very good size portion with plenty of protein, and the same could be said for his Dan Dan noodles. Somehow managed to finish everything, thinking that I should not wait as long to return to this gem.

New Sichuan is truly a little hidden gem for authentic Chinese cuisine. From the moment you walk in, you can tell this place focuses on quality and tradition. The flavors are bold, fresh, and taste like they're made to order every single time. And the prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes and overall experience. The menu options are honestly endless. Whether you're a meat lover or a non-meat eater, there are so many choices to pick from. I especially appreciate that they offer plenty of vegetarian options, making it a great place for everyone at the table. One small detail I love is that the tablecloths are disposable, which I think it adds an extra sense of cleanliness. The service is consistently great, the staff is attentive, and the food always arrives promptly, hot, and freshly made. I personally always go back for their Sichuan wontons drizzled in their hot chili oil as they are absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. If you enjoy authentic dishes with a little kick, this is definitely a spot worth trying. I'll keep coming back!

Food galore!!! My family ordered New Sichuan for our early Christmas meal, and the overall consensus was that the food was very good. Personally, I ordered the Dan Dan noodles and the Sichuan wontons. I thought both were very tasty! Great flavor and well-cooked. My husband got General Tso's chicken, and while it wasn't spicy, the breading on the chicken was yummy, and the chicken itself was nice and meaty. It's also a huge plus when there aren't any weird chewy pieces of chicken! My other family members had a variety of orders with varying reviews ... mostly good though. Overall, it feels good to have a go-to Chinese spot in Winston now. I will definitely be returning and recommending to others! The inside of the restaurant looked nice and cozy. The employees were kind, and they had our takeout order ready as soon as we walked in!

Service was fast and easy. I ordered a soy milk, the minces pork with chick peas noodles. The spicy was on point! Came with some bok choy. I love every bite of it! Had a side of the shrimp dumplings, yummy. Hubby had the intestines noodles, added a fried egg. He was very impressed and finish his whole bowl. This is for sure a authentic Chinese restaurant! So glad we decided to stop by after shopping at Hanes Mall. Plenty of parking as well. We will definitely be back!

Though I've been to this excellent Sichuan restaurant dozens of times, I'm still exploring the menu. On my latest visit, I chose the Singapore Mei Fun, an interesting and a very busy dish. This is a stir fried curry based, noodle dish that originated in Hong Kong in the A 1950's, and has become popular in the US and the UK. Thin rice noodles (vermicelli or angel hair) are usually contained in this dish, combined with a sauce that is anchored by yellow curry powder along with soy sauce, oyster sauce, and perhaps Sharon's wine, and combined with several sources of protein (shrimp, chicken, char siu, egg) and a nice amount of crunchy vegetables - carrot, celery, scallions, bean sprouts, Napa cabbage, etc. This is a nice dish, but varies from the traditional versions, and from others I've had in the area, such as at Jade Garden. This is a very mild version, and if there was any curry powder in it, I did not find it. There were some small amount of dried red pepper. The noodles were vermicell rice noodles with very, very little sauce. The protein was limited to shrimp and very thin pieces of marinated chicken - no egg, no char siu. The noodles were nicely cooked with great taste and texture. The tasty vegetables were cabbage, carrot, celery, and scallions. I ordered a side dish of Baby Bok Choy, and folded plenty of that into the noodle mixture along with soy sauce and some healthy dashes of chili oil. With those addition we had ourselves a spicy, crunchy chow mei fun.

Pleasantly surprised to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in the heart of Winston-Salem. Good service and great food! Plenty of parking outside...restaurant is big enough to hold 60+ people. Cozy and clean. We had some popular dishes like chicken with string beans, ma pou tofu and sesame chicken...I think they are as good as those from metropolitan areas like DC. Definitely will visit again.

I have always gotten this place to go and I have loved it, but I went in to sit down this past time and oh man, it's great! Clean atmosphere, wait staff is right to the point and efficient. The atmosphere was nice and inviting, bright and open. My hubs got some soup & I did not get a photo of it before he dug in! He said it was spicy and delicious. I got beef with string bean and the beef was velvety smooth, the beans were tender and honestly my favorite! We also ordered pork soup dumplings and I really enjoyed those too, I will try to get photos next time I go back and update this review. You will see the beef and string beans here.

I had a quick lunch today at New Sichuan, having only one order of their pork soup dumplings. The venue is pretty small but clean and the service was prompt and friendly. The dumplings arrived fast, and piping hot- at first impression, they're small for soup dumplings. You get six, they're not particularly big and also unfortunately they were less "soup dumplings" and more "wet dumplings" like, regular dumplings but juicier. There was no traditional spoonful of broth to pour from each dumpling after biting- maybe a scant teaspoon or so would pour out.. but, the flavor was very good. I'll give it four stars for flavor but the portion size and scant broth make me unlikely to return to this venue for this particular item.

I came here for dinner. I got the fish. It wasn't bad but I was hoping for more than a spicy flavor profile. I was hoping for to some garlic or sweetness. This was my first time have Sichuan food so maybe this is customary. There were many options to choose from. I asked my waiter for some honey. He never came back with any or told me that it was unavailable. I wouldn't be in a hurry to come back but my friend enjoyed her food.

I went in with a very narrow time window to eat between appointments -- plenty of time to get real food rather than just fast food but I was really hoping things would run smoothly. And it was just about perfect! I admit when I saw that the Dan Dan Noodles I was wanting had a 3-pepper rating I thought about asking the kitchen to dial it down, but either my tolerance is up, or else they did the perfect job of reading the room, because it would not have been better suited for me had I made it in my own kitchen. I'll be back, and often.

Best of the best and the only option in Winston for authentic Chinese. Quality has been fantastic every time I've been here and I've never been disappointed! Pleased to say that "real" plates and culinary are back - so long paper plates and disposable silverware! Great prices for great portions! Would recommend the classics to anybody whether you're trying this out for the first-time or grew up on these dishes!

I came here on a Friday as a party of 1. There was a decent crowd, but I was still able to be sat down right away. The place is small so if things do get busy, it will fill up fast. The tables come with paper on top which was I thought was interesting. I ordered a sweet tea, crab rangoon and the sesame chicken. When they brought me my sweet tea, they also brought napkins and chopsticks. The sweet tea has more of a tea flavor and I personally prefer it sweeter to dull the tea flavor more. I placed my order around 12pm and it took less than 5 minutes for my appetizer of crab rangoon to come out. It was fresh and hot. It came with 8 crab rangoons and they were okay. I have had others that I prefer over these ones. My chicken and white rice came out in about 6 minutes. I was very impressed with the timeliness. The chicken was good and I did like the pieces were not large. The white rice was average and I would have preferred sticky rice. I will say that I went with food that I am familiar with and would be open to come back and try something on the menu I have not had before. Overall a positive experience and I had leftovers to bring home to eat later.

Love the food here. Even the simpke ones like kung pao, chicken and shrimp, taste amazing. My daughter tried their intestine noodles and loved it.

We wanted sushi and red curry and they delivered us some excellent eats. Service was awesome and the manager still always comes by to ask if everything is ok. Love that. Probably at some point will need a Reno as they have been open awhile but nothing looked bad nice busy atmosphere and lots of customers which is nice to see. We ordered a standard vodka soda from the drink menu. They have drink specials every day as well. Then we tried the sweet heat roll which was so pretty ! Delicious with all the sushi elements. Yum. Then we tried the poke bowl with ahi tuna. Wow so big! Rice, seaweed salad and lots of Veggies and a yummy soy wasabi vinaigrette. The tuna sashimi was so fresh. Then the red curry with chicken. We asked for extra Thai spicy and it was just the perfect heat. Served with white rice this was a huge portion honestly could have served 3 people. We still had a lot left over . They were also great about giving us another bowl of rice which is also a nice touch . The sauce here for this red curry is amazing. I will be back to buy it as we asked if they sell it and our server said yes . It is one of the best I've ever had. We were somewhat totally full !! Haha! Such a fun night here eating all this amazing Great food . I need to make sure I come back sooner than a few years! If your red curry fan definitely come here!

Our soups and appetizer were the absolute best thing we ate. Our entrees were okay. My husband got the beef bulgogi and it needed something. The beef was well cooked but didn't seem to have any salt, soy sauce, or anything like that. It was a 5 out of 10.

It is a family operation, as most Chinese restaurants in the USA are. This place is very much like New Sichuan in Winston, in fact I don't know which is better, they are both consistently great! We grabbed a nice array of dishes to go as we had several mouths to feed. We chose a bunch of favorite dishes - starting of course with Dan Dan Noodles, Cucumber in Garlic Sauce, Wontons in Red Chile Oil, Sour Potatoes, Tri-Pepper Chicken, Scallion Chicken, and Beef in Spicy Sauce! Every single item was excellent, and the potatoes and the cucumber were a nice, cool offset to the other spicy dishes.

One of the biggest positives here is consistency of flavor, something that's been surprisingly hard to find with a lot of Chinese takeout spots we've tried in the area. The only real miss for us is that egg foo young isn't on the menu, which my wife loves and always hopes to find. That aside, this is a super solid takeout option for flavorful, authentic, and fresh Chinese food.

They have Malaysian food and a specialty menu for khmer food. Khmer food is not knowned much in the east but its beginning to be more learned about and popular. There food is rich in flavor and there cuisine is mostly known for there use of fresh herbs, coconut milk and aromatic spice paste;known as kroeung(lemon grass paste). I decided to try some entrees from the Khmer menu. I tryed the Malaysian Roti appetizer with side curry. It is so so delicous. The curry is tasty too but a little too sweet for my taste. Main entrees I tryed was the chicken kroeung (sour lemongrass soup) and the braised pork meat on bone cooked in soy sauce( Malaysian style but Khmer people have a similar dish). The chicken kroeung is soup for the soul, filled with alot of green veggies and best eaten with white rice. The braised pork meat is great too. Cooked just right and seasoned good. Its not sweet or salty. Usually I would try braised meat in soy at other restaurants either it would be way too sweet or salty but they made theres just right. Now the Southeastern asian cooking is not for everybody or those who have only tried chinese or japanese food. If you'd like to try something different but oh sooo delicous, khmer cusine is for you!! These items made up a very nice meal. The duck is chopped into chunks with bone in, and is plated with a nice amount of rich broth, with just a hint of sweetness. The chunked up approach for the duck does result in some small pieces of bone to be picked through, in some cases fairly carefully. The picking through the bones was definitely worth it. I'm looking forward to trying additional Cambodian dishes.
