Tucked behind Harper Hills Common business center close to Harris Teeter. The restaurant is decorated beautifully and it is very clean. They have Malaysian food and a specialty menu for khmer food. Khmer food is not knowned much in the east but its beginning to be more learned about and popular. There food is rich in flavor and there cuisine is mostly known for there use of fresh herbs, coconut milk and aromatic spice paste;known as kroeung(lemon grass paste). I decided to try some entrees from the Khmer menu. I tryed the Malaysian Roti appetizer with side curry. It is so so delicous. The curry is tasty too but a little too sweet for my taste. Main entrees I tryed was the chicken kroeung (sour lemongrass soup) and the braised pork meat on bone cooked in soy sauce( Malaysian style but Khmer people have a similar dish). The chicken kroeung is soup for the soul, filled with alot of green veggies and best eaten with white rice. The braised pork meat is great too. Cooked just right and seasoned good. Its not sweet or salty. Usually I would try braised meat in soy at other restaurants either it would be way too sweet or salty but they made theres just right. Now the Southeastern asian cooking is not for everybody or those who have only tried chinese or japanese food. If you'd like to try something different but oh sooo delicous,khmer cusine is for you!! He mentioned he also have a donut shop called Intown donuts and Boba tea..down the road on Jonestown Road. Will definitely dine here again and try there other menu items. I went with cousin for lunch to try it out since never been there. We were there at 12:30 and were the only ones for lunch. Wait staff was great. Noticed restaurant got a 99 health rating. Congrats. Appetizer shared Malaysia Shrimp Summer Roll. It was very good where could have eaten another one! My lunch choice Salt & Pepper Calamari with steamed rice. It was good but not spicy. On my latest visit, I wanted to try yet another item on the Khmer Menu (Cambodia dishes for the most part) - it was listed and pictured as Peking Duck. But when I ordered it the manager,Tony Tan, said the dish was actually 1/2 Roasted Duck! I went with the duck(which includes steamed rice), and added Baby Bok Choy, a nicely stir-fried dish that goes very well as a side item with a great many Asian entrees! These items made up a very nice meal. The duck is chopped into chunks with bone in, and is plated with a nice amount of rich broth, with just a hint of sweetness. The chunked up approach for the duck does result in some small pieces of bone to be picked through, in some cases fairly carefully. The picking through the bones was definitely worth it. Very nice clean restaurant! I met a friend here for lunch and we had the loat cha with beef and the mee ka thang with seafood. We were delighted to find this restaurant still open at this hour. We noted that it was nicely decorated and had a peaceful atmosphere as we walked in. When we arrived at 8:30pm we were the only ones eating. It was a perfect time. It's quiet, I can hear the water fountain feature flowing. They have an extensive menu so it took a little time to decide what dish to try. From what I have heard, Malaysian food is primarily all about noodles of all kinds, ramen, Lo mein, udon etc that can come fried, boiled, in pho, Singapore dishes, whole fish dishes and offering your choice of protein in a plethora of sauce choices. I ordered a pretty tasty dish called Malaysian Mee Goreng w beef. It was very delish and had a nice sauce w the customary lo mein style noodles and veggies complimenting the beef and sauce. I did notice it was missing the bean sprouts but the food was still on par otherwise. The 2 men that served and ran the kitchen were quite happy to accommodate us without a rush to get us out the door as it was getting to be close to closing time. We appreciated that. Such a pleasant experience. Came 1 hour before closing on a Sunday night. We ended up being the only customers at that hour and felt like the place was ours and the staff were so attentive pleasants and great communicators. They explained their options and how they could tailor and they had market price stuff like snapper which could feed four people they say and lobster so they already have plenty of offerings some of it seems to be Chinese also but you can definitely get what you want there. My best Curry dish was reminiscence of Thai food and just hit the spot as Thai food is about my favorite food. Sandy's noodles where similar lo mein but with some kick to it and I would say the taste is addictive. According to Sandy the sake had a little sweetness to it and she enjoyed that difference a lot. I am glad to have found this place. New owner same name, food is similar to Cambodians. Met the owner himself, I am very happy to see him run this restaurant, The food was great, we killed everything we ordered, we ate family style! It was my fiance soon to be wife bday and he offered free plate and cheese cake. The ambiance is nice a relaxing and he mention he will put up more Cambodians arts up, oh if u didn't know he is Khmer /Cambodian. The name of the store just stay the same till he can get it changed. Very impressed with the cleanliness and decor of the restaurant when I walked in. I loved the wonton soup the most; rich broth and meaty stuffed wonton. I also enjoyed the summer roll; fresh veggies & shrimp in rice paper pared with a great peanut dipping sauce and sweet daikon on the side! It would have been even better if it had more shrimp. Food presentation was 100% !! Portions did seem a little small, but prices were very reasonable. There were only a few people inside, minimal staff, but we were taken care of. I had the feeling the waiter may also be the owner. I am not very familiar with Malaysian cuisine, but the menu had many things I recognized, and many intriguing things I'd like to try. I would describe as Asian fusion, with a lot of noodle options! The only thing that was disappointing was the serving size of chicken and broccoli . There was very little meat. We have ordered this years before and it was much meatier. Also this time it was a little sweeter than average chicken and broccoli, it tasted more like teriyaki to me. I think they had changed the menu since my last visit. This time is quite disappointing when we decided to try the take outs of a few dishes from the Malaysian signature menu. Spicy pork foot noodle soup - taste on sweeter side but overall that is the most satisfying dish along with Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce; the pork stomach - not many pork pieces because it was loaded with preserved mustard stem; fish fillet with soy sauce - if it is the price tag that cause us to have 8 small pieces, I am ok that the owner raised the price tag instead of saying this dish is very good. I wanted to update my review since it was pretty old. The owner was handling the front of house alone during lunch when we are there. He was very efficient and our food came out quickly. We tried the satay and pork dumplings to start. The satay is my favorite appetizer and I love the Malaysian style of this dish. The dumplings were fine bit not special like some of the other dishes. They have a great wonton soup. The wontons are homemade and the broth has a great flavor. I had the curry noodle soup. The broth was sweet, rich, and a little spicy. They give you hot sauce to make it hotter but I am a spice wimp. It is served with plenty of meat; I chose the pork which was very good. There were also fried dumplings and an egg. The service was quick and attentive but I have to give feedback on specific dishes as it was a mixed bag for me. A) We tried the Roti with chicken curry for appetizer and I thought the roti was great but the curry lacked flavor B) Tom Yum soup was delicious.. flavorful and a very generous portion C) I enjoyed the Kung Pao chicken - it wasn't fried, had a light sauce and a nice mix of veggies ( portion was ok .. I would treat it as a light meal) D) Kids tried the lo mein with chicken and General Tso's chicken and they both enjoyed it. We liked that both had a good mix of greens which made for a balanced meal. E) We also tried the shiitake mushrooms with mix veggies, this was disappointing. It was 4 big shiitake mushrooms on bok choy ... no flavor, no salt , no sauce and no mix veg.. "mushrooms on boiled bok choy" would be the correct description!! I really really enjoyed my first visit to this place! Everything was exceptionally flavorful, and the prices were very reasonable. I came in for lunch, and the place was oddly quite empty even though it is located in a busy shopping center... it does seem like a bit more of a dinner joint. Either way, I had to try some of the Roti, and was very glad I did. The pancakes were crisp yet dense and soft. They had a rich buttery flavor and the chicken curry that came with it made a nice pairing both from a flavor and texture perspective. The noodle dish recommended to me by the owner (who also was my waiter) was certainly not disappointing, though right now I cannot remember the name of it. It had a rich stir fry flavor with beef and a touch of sweetness. I always enjoy a good noodle stir fry. It's a definite reorder if I can figure out what it was! Either way.. This is a hidden gem just outside of Winston-Salem. The interior is immediately relaxing. We ordered the steamed dumplings as an appetizer. They were hot and flavorful. I told my husband I wanted Asian food for our anniversary lunch. We chose 18 Malaysia and I whole heartedly regret our decision. These were the smallest portions of food I have ever been served in my entire life. I was also charged twice for a Roti appetizer and found out through yelp that two pieces come in one order. I was charged $12 for two pieces of Roti, instead of $6. The pictures don't match the items that are served and I let the server know that. He told me that I didn't want what was in the picture because it would make me feel heavy and sluggish. No one else was in the establishment and now I know why. This restaurant does not take pride in their dishes or their customer service. I haven't written a yelp review in years so yes, I have to be pretty frustrated, alarmed, and disappointed at the overall food and experience to take time to write one. A hidden gem with revealed flavors. It's perfect for a casual lunch or dinner where Malaysian flavors will tickle your taste buds and bring you back for more. The atmosphere is unassumingly charming with a noise level perfect for discussion among your dining partners and dishes that could very well be shared or hoarded all to one's self. The price per plate for the majority of the menu is very affordable which usually leads to us ordering a "bonus" veggie or two to help round out the mains (i highly recommend the baby bok choy with the hint of sesame oil that lets the veggie flavor shine or the water spinach which is not something you'll see on many other WS menus). The roti, served with a chicken curry, is a great way to start the meal, but the curry puffs or the chicken satay are just as wonderful. My go to dish is the chicken with green beans. Epic flavors from the cooking with care that's clear with every dish served. My wife mocks me and the owner already knows what I'm having because I know what I like and I'm never disappointed. I also know I'll get samples of what she orders, so it's a win / win. My wife has enjoyed most of the curries and Malaysian entrees with nary a foul ball among them. They offer beer, wine and sake for those over 21 that want a refreshing pairing to go along with their meal. As a warning - they have one person that is serving the front of house. He is efficient and effective, so this is not an issue unless your a diner that always wants a staff member that's in sight. Stopped by here when driving through Winston as a family friend from the Triangle recommended it. Our waiter was very prompt in servicing us, especially since we came at non lunch hours (~ 3 pm). What I enjoy about this place is how everything is relatively cheap ($3-5 for apps and drinks, $11 for a noodle dish) so you can try out a lot of food hawker style. The roti canai comes with 2(!) rotis and a flavorful dipping sauce that has tender meat and potatoes in it. All the stir fry noodles are also hot and fresh - the char kway teow with chicken (similar to chow fun and pad see ew) has the highly sought after char/wok hei that you can only achieve from a well seasoned wok. The mee goreng was a little too sweet and sour for me (vinegar based) but I liked how you can get roast pork as a meat for the same price as the chicken. Lastly the Malaysian milk tea was delicious - it was refreshing and had hints of malt and nutty flavors. The menu is so expansive and I can't wait to come back and try more. read more

This restaurant is so cute and the food is so good! Authentic menu items, some things you can't really find anywhere else. The Hainanese chicken was really tasty! The sauce they give you just made the dish! My favorite dish was the Malaysia Char Kueh Teow (Fried rice noodles) so much better than your typical pad Thai. And the Green Tea Cheesecake was the icing of the cake. With light flavors, it was the perfect dessert after a full lunch! We came for late lunch and the crowd had just slowed down. Cute little set up inside. I've seen this place every time I'm in this shopping center but then forget ! So for my birthday I decided to check it out. They had my favorite Asian app of roti canai ! Which was fantastic. The sauce was so good and full of flavor and the roti was nice and flaky and crunchy and soft combo. I'm already wanting to go back just to eat that alone !! I ordered the Malaysian chicken curry, you can get with bone or without which was nice to have the option as I'm not a an of bones ! Also the boneless had veggies in it too. Great dish, nice sauce . Plenty of chicken and veggies. Really enjoyed it. Different from other Asian curries I've had before. Other things we got were the special crispy angel hair noodles with chicken which was a huge dish and not as flavorful as the curry but still good. I have never been to Malaysia so I don't have any idea of what authentic Malaysian food is but if the food in Malaysia is like this I Would-be happy to go check it out. I have been here a bunch of times now and I'm surprised I didn't remember to write a review. Every dish that I have had here has been good and I have been trying to sample the menu each time. One fixture in our dining here is to get the roti appetizer, a delicious bread like concoction with bowl of potato curry stew to dip it in. Another favorite of mine was the Malaysian curry soup with pork. My wife is fond of the Malaysian curry with vegetables. I was a big fan of the previous restaurant in this space, which came and unfortunately went. This restaurant has transformed the interior quite dramatically. You don't feel like you are in a strip mall while you're inside. The menu is also very distinctive for Winston-Salem in my view. I hope this one lasts.
