Egg roll

First time coming here in over a few years for a lunch date with my wife. Was one of our go to spots for awhile, so it was nice coming back. The foods still pretty good. There's other serviceable Chinese food spots in the area, but they've always been consistent with their lunch service and as a sit down option, we prefer them over almost anyone else in the area. My wife got the General Tsos chicken with fried rice and wonton soup. I got the Szechuan beef with fried rice and it was delicious. Their beef is always cooked very well for thin cuts. Not chewy, very tender and flavorful. The veggies that come with it, the sliced celery, green peppers and carrots were cooked a little under to my liking, but it paired well with the beef flavor and the sauce its prepared in. Didn't get the chance to taste any of my wife's food but she was happy with it. Their food is always prepared very well anyways, so it was no surprise. Wasn't much of a lunchtime crowd, so the setting was quiet and we enjoyed it. I wish they'd bring their Sunday buffet back. Pre covid, we would visit them after church often and got to sample most of everything on their menu, which was also very good as well. That's the only complaint I have I suppose.

Ehh we stopped in for lunch with friends. Service was super slow and the food just wasn't great. It won't be in our rotation.

Kicking off with some free crispy wonton with duck sauce!

It's always a pleasure to come to this hidden gem. It's off the beaten path in a private strip mall. One of those places that are found by word of mouth. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. They play traditional Chinese music in the background which makes it feel like you are overseas. The fish tank and artwork also transports you back to their homeland. Their food is traditional Schezhuan style. All the dishes are amazing and the best part is how affordable they are. The Mon-Sat lunch menu is the best. Plates are just enough to satisfy you and it comes with a cup of your choice of Hot & Sour, Egg Drop or Wonton soup. All 3 are great. My wife got the garlic shrimp with white rice. Shrimp is perfectly cooked, not rubbery and the green peppers, celery & carrots are also soft with a little crunch. I got the Mongolian beef. Tender beef cooked with scallions and onions accompanied by choice of white or fried rice. Make sure to ask for Chili Oil on the side to get that extra kick. It may look spicy but it is not so bring it on. The wait staff is friendly and efficient. Love this place and one of the few in town that has great food with reasonable prices. They don't hit you with extra unnecessary prices!

Szechuan Beef (also Chef's Special) with rice & soup for $7,50 - mild & sweet, with the ubiquitous brown sauce.

I visited this place several times recently to see what their food was like now, had been there several times a few years back. The menu here is rather broad - most of the usual Chinese American items (General Tso Chicken, Mongolian Beef, etc.), a few Hunan and Szechuan dishes, several duck choices, a variety of noodle dishes, a number of Indo-Chinese items (Gobi Manchurian, Hakka Noodles, Darjeeling Noodles etc., for example), and several Thai dishes. I tried the Twice Cooked Pork, and 3 Indo-Chinese dishes - Hakka Noodles, Darjeeling Noodles, and Gobi Manchurian. The pork dish was rather nice with a nice heat level, and still crispy chopped vegetables. The pork was tender and flavorful, though it was not especially plentiful. The lunch special comes with soup and rice. The Gobi Manchurian is a favorite dish of mine and I've eaten it at Curry And Noodle in Winston, Noor in Greensboro, and Salt and Pepper in High Point - all great versions. This, unfortunately, was not anywhere near that level, in fact it was God awful. The cauliflower was covered in a gooey, tasteless batter, and smothered in a thick "gravy"! Darjeeling Noodles originated in the city of Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal, a city renowned for its uniquely favored & expensive tea! This is a rather fiery dish flavored primarily by Dalle Chiles, also called wild cherry chilies, and a variety is available in the USA. This dish also contains Sichuan peppercorns, white peppercorns, garlic, soy sauce, and a touch of tomato - there are a lot of variations with some additional items. This was a solid dish and there was plenty of it, but it was a mild version, lacking the usual red color of the sauce. I don't know what Chiles were used, but apparently there was not a lot of them. I wouldn't go with this dish again. This spot is a decent option for a selection of Asian and Indo-Chinese fare.

Great Service and Great Food! Only reason I gave the establishment a 4 and not a 5 is because the scallion chicken was supposed to be spicy but wasn't really spicy at all. Best egg drop soup I've had. Great place!

Fresh food, unlike the other ones. We go there every other week. General Tsos Chicken is fresh and crunchy and the wait staff are superb.

I keep track of a lot of restaurants on Yelp, even ones that I've had less than stellar experiences…read moreat, which included this spot! I had read a few recent reviews that were quite positive, so I decided to try again. I decided on two dishes - Navratan Korma and the Non-vegetarian Thali (a dish I try whenever I find it, which is not often). The time out of the kitchen was very nice, less than 20 minutes! Thali means plate or tray, it is usually round, and this dish is meant to contain a number of items providing multi flavors and textures. Each region in South Asia and Southeast Asia has its own version, and even within a region there are many variations, as to number of items and the variety of item. The version here is rather simple and small, reducing the variety of flavors and textures which is at the heart of this meal. Here it is served in a compartmentalized, rectangular metal tray. What I was served contained Chicken Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, stewed Black Lentils, Basmati Rice, and plain Naan - there were no dips or sauces - as I said, simple and small! I had no say on what items the Thali contained! While nothing was bad, nothing was OMG either - across the board rather above average items. The Rice Pudding was nice and there was a very good amount. The Navratan Korma was solid, but did not quite rise to the level of that at either Saffron or Curry and Noodle in WS, or Lemon in Greensboro, or Salt and Pepper in High Point. There were plenty of veggies, but the korma sauce lacked substance. I would do this again, and will most likely try the Vegetable Thali.

A chai came in a small size known as a cutting chai, and was strong and not that sweet. I ordered a range of classics and had leftovers for several days. When you order the high spice level here, you do get it. I particularly enjoy a mouthwatering dal with various spice notes, and their aloo tikki chaat was substantial. Their take on okra was a bit oily for me and I would have preferred more paneer in the paneer dish, and in general, the cuisine was a bit on the indulgent side. Given that I needed a lot of vegetarian food in a hurry, this option was successful.

The meal I selected was Butter Chicken. I only have a few experiences with Indian food, and I knew this was a safe bet, and since it is a very popular Indian dish, I figured this would be a good litmus test for the restaurant. I was very pleased with their selection of groceries; they had many WHOLE-grain spices, which is pretty rare, unless you are going to Whole Foods or some ritzy establishment like that. They had so many herbs and ingredients, it was really lovely to see a small business provide a resource for an underserved community in Winston-Salem. I plan to try the Garlic Naan later, I was to hungry to warm it up with my Butter Chicken. Now, onto the food. Unfortunately, I thought it was a little bland. And a bit pricy for what I got. I just got butter chicken and jasmine rice, and it was $16. I think for that price, the portion size might be a little bigger. The dish had spice, it was not devoid of spices, but it was just fairly bland, compared to my few experiences with Indian food before. With that being said, I will try it again. Perhaps it was an off day, or maybe that's not their signature dish. If I had to pinpoint a problem, maybe there was too much cream in it? I think that is the reason for the "bland" and most certainly not a lack of effort or seasonings. I tasted a nice umami flavor, but it was very faint in the sauce. I will give them another shot, and I will report back, everyone has a bad day occasionally.
