This place is primarily a take out spot although there are 5 or so small tables for dining in. It is in a strip center that is anchored by Sheetz and Food Lion. The center is one of those twisting/ turning ones that stays busy. There is no table service, you order at the register, pay up, and await your order. The service was ok, but not at all pleasant, no thank you! I ordered an egg roll ($1.75), chicken wings (4 for $7.75) and Mongolian Beef ($10.25). The order took just about 20 minutes. All the items were good to very good. The chicken wings were full wings, well sized, nicely cooked, and full of flavor. At the current prices for this item at most places, this is a bargain, and a tasty one! The egg rolls, there were 2 of them, were small compared with those at other places, but there were 2! The roll was nicely cooked, and had a nice flavor. The Mongolian Beef was a nice version with plenty of tender, sliced beef. The sauce was a bit heavy, but was not totally overpowering. There were a collection of veggies as you see at many places, which is not what the original dish calls for, and seems to make the dish appear larger than it would other wise be. I have been going here for years and the food was always good. However, the original owners sold the business and the the quality of the food has dropped dramatically. Got the shrimp fried rice and was bland, had peas and carrots, and the shrimp were the tiny cocktail shrimp where before, they were very large, fresh shrimp. The crab Rangoon was very Bland and chewy. The beef Egg Foo Young was flat and the sauce was very bland. Their chicken wings, which used to be so good, they were a meal themselves are now not the same. The oil they cooked them in was exhausted and needed to be changed. The bean curd and vegetables was missing seasonings and flat. We tried them twice and both times it was not good. Coming from a restaurant background still in our family, it is quite obvious that the new owners of the China Restaurant have cheapened the menu and need to do better. The restaurant we normally get delivery from is closed on Tuesdays so we called China Restaurant and asked if they delivered. They said yes. We placed our order a little after 7pm and they said 50-60 minutes. At 8:30 we called and were lied to that the driver was right around the corner and would be there any minute. We called back 20 minutes later to complain we still hadn't gotten our food. We found out they use a third party delivery service and our order had been cancelled twice, I guess drivers declined the delivery. We decided to try a new to us place for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner. Masks are required to be worn at all times (both guests and staff) and social distancing is enforced as best as they can with what limited space they have. They are operating as takeout only at this time to ensure the safety of their customers and themselves. China is located in the shopping center where Johnny B's is located on Stratford Road and was crazy busy which to me is always a good sign. We ordered crab rangoon, steamed dumplings, the beef with broccoli combo with white rice (also comes with an egg roll) and the chicken with mixed vegetables combo with white rice (and the egg roll). The crab rangoon was probably the best dish out of everything we ordered and some of the best we've had here in Winston Salem. The steamed dumplings were okay and would probably be better if they were eaten as soon as we picked them up and not after a 10 minute drive. Both entrees were good, however my husband prefers the beef with broccoli at our normal Chinese takeout place. The egg rolls were basic and glad they were part of the entree as it wouldn't be something we would order separately. Hands down our favorite takeout Chinese in Winston because it reminds us of the Chinese from home (NY). We usually get the combo platers, chicken & broccoli with white rice and general tso with fried rice or lo mein. Love that the general tso also has some onion in it! Their boneless spare ribs are amazing, crispy and flavorful! I love the flavor of their soup, but I do wish that their noodle of the dumpling was a little thicker, it's super thin and tends to fall apart. Egg rolls are always a must as well. Some other dishes we've had from here that we love are the pork or chicken moo shu pork and scallion chicken. Great food but entitled mouthy cashiers at the counter. Customers who decide to pick up their food to avoid extra costs shouldn't be shamed for leaving a 10% tip. And with a loud mouth in front of a full restaurant. Honestly, if anything, a tip should go straight to the chef. Handing someone a bag of food doesn't earn a tip in my opinion. That's no great feat. They left a $15.00 order out of our $50+ order last Monday and I called them to fix the problem immediately even though they were 2+ miles away and the sweet lady said "what is your name and phone number and the manager will call you right back and please leave your phone line open." Well I did and no call back ever. So today, in the same shopping we got Subway . Upon entering the "completely empty restaurant" the sweet lady went to the hallway to get the manager Lego was at a desk doing a puzzle. Quick & Cheap that is what sums up China Restaurant. I have been eating here since they first opened, and have ordered via phone, and in person. Typically it takes about 10 minutes or so for your order. I will go in, order, and head next door to the grocery store to pick up drinks or other items, by the time I am back, it is ready. I have ordered an assortment of items from them. My favorite item, no matter what Chinese restaurant is boneless spare ribs. I will typically order them off the appetizer menu from China, as I am not a huge fan of their rice. It is typically dry, and requires WAY too much soy sauce then I think I should put on it. Which to me is really odd, if you order just the Fried Rice by itself, it is a different type of rice entirely, and is VERY good. We like to order the house fried rice, as it has EVERYTHING in it. The Lo Mein is also very good, and again I like to order the house lo mein as it has everything in it as well. I am ultra picky about my egg rolls. Most times I call them cabbage rolls, as that is all they have in them. China egg rolls are very good, and a far from a cabbage roll. The other favorite for my kids is the Sweet and Sour chicken. I typically get the large order, not the meal. They never fit inside the box, and are always busting out. Which makes it VERY hard driving home...they are so hot...and so, so, so good. I am going to burn myself everytime...I don't care! The sauce it comes with is one of the better sweet and sour sauces I have had. The crab rangoon should be cream cheese with scallions as I have a very hard time finding the crab. Which for me is fine as I am not a fan of crab. The dip is the same as the sweet and sour. Lunch time, china is a must, they have a $5.55 menu, which is basically a meat, and pork fried rice, and an ice tea. If you want soda it is .75 more. I typically upcharge it as the tea is not that good. Come early, and plan to eat elsewhere at lunch as it is a busy shop! You get a lot for $5.55. I sent my order along with cash w/ a friend to pick up some dinner. I ordered teriyaki chicken but my friend said they said they didn't have that (? What Chinese restaurant doesnt..!?!?). First, what we ordered... General Tso's Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Chicken Nuggets for our daughter... and of course the free sides of sauce and fortune cookies. Second, the service... a Chinese/Asian lady took my order. She was sweet and spoke good English. For takeout Chinese food I was satisfied with the service. Third, the price... $21.83 after tax. Not what I'd call cheap, but very reasonable for the quantity of food we received. Fourth, and this is where my one star comes from, the food quality and taste... It's pretty bad when the fortune cookie is by far the best part! All three chicken dishes were tough and over cooked... almost inedible. The Pork Fried Rice was yellow, dry, and flavorless. My wife had to find something else to eat entirely. The egg rolls, while obviously cooked fresh, were awful. I don't even know how to describe the odd flavor. If everything else had been spot on I would have said these were a chefs experiment and bad due to my personal taste... I seriously doubt there was anything intentional, experimental, or subjective about them... yuck! I typically don't review restaurants unless they are particularly good or particularly bad. I know everyone can have a bad day/night... but I also know when a chef/owner goes in vacation they have to leave someone in charge to keep things going seamlessly as if they were still there. The egg rolls tend to be the typical restaurant style egg rolls, but the entrees truly never disappoint! "Last Supper At China Restaurant" (10/11/2018 @ 8:45pm) I normally don't write reviews but after today's encounter had to take time to share. We all work too hard for money and with Chinese restaurants and other options available, customer service should be important for customer retainment. I frequent China Restaurant often even though I bypass three Chinese restaurants in my area. One of the things I cannot deny is the great taste which is the reason why I drive to eat here. Today I called in my order and was greeted by a rude lady. This was not the normal experience I have encountered when eating or calling. Once entering to pick up my order did not see the normal lady who typically takes the orders. As I waited for my food heard the same lady taking talk to other customers on the telephone in a rude way. Once my food was ready I provided the lady with 20 dollars. Once she took the money she started to talk in Chinese while rubbing the bill. She called over another worker who told her it was ok as if the money was fake. She did not check the money by a marker like most restaurants when provided, however, made me feel like a criminal. I spoke with the lady who normally takes the orders and informed her of this occurrence. Although the food is good I will not be back to spend another dollar. read more

The soup had no seasoning and wasn't close to hot and the General tso had been reheated. I've tried this place several times since moving nearby.
