Good indian food at a very reasonable price. Most of my experience here is with the lunch buffet, which is a great deal at only $8.50. I'm in no way an expert on indian food, but it does have some of the better chicken tikka masala that I've had. If you're short on time they also offer the buffet to go. It's still only $8.50, instead of charging by weight like most places, and they always offer a big portion on naan at no additional charge. I definitely recommend giving them a try! read more

I was in Towson for a conference, and sick to death of mediocre conference food, and wanted something more interesting for a quiet dinner while I caught up on some work. This place hit the spot. The servers were attentive yet unobtrusive, and able to make helpful suggestions. Though I don't recall the names of my dishes, I ordered one lamb dish and an okra dish. Both were incredible. The lamb was tender and flavorful (and even held up to reheating the following morning). Okra, while renown for being slimy, has a delicate flavor that was highlighted in this preparation. The "slimy" quality was integrated into the dish, and simply thickened it instead of creating an unpleasant mouthfeel. Portion sizes were enormous, otherwise I could have eating that okra all night! Due to the success of my solo dinner, I insisted my coworkers return with me for lunch the following day. Like me, they were enchanted by the atmosphere and thrilled by the food. Gotta say, when it's late in the semester and I am completely stressed out, Kathmandu has never let me down. There's something about their food that is so satisfying. I can't say it's the best Indian food I've ever had (that would be a hole in the wall place in London) but it's consistently good and has become practically a staple of my college diet. It's pretty standard pricing for Indian food so I can't complain about that too much. I usually get the chicken and the meat quality is good. They also definitely don't skimp on the sauce. I love dining on Indian food, which I cannot prepare. They deliver to my home and the delivery employees are very friendly. I usually order Saag Paneer, which they deliver perfectly. My son loves Chicken Rogan Josh (his name is in the entree), and my husband orders a chicken dish. I miss working near this location since they had an exceptional lunch buffet for a very reasonable price. The Indian food is very authentic and I can enjoy it in my home (saving on beverage/soda/iced tea prices). The lunch buffet was exceptional, with many dishes available, salad available, and my favorite, the rice/saffron/nut pudding. My husband deemed the location the "restaurant of death" since he worked at Donna's there in 1992. Towson lacks free parking and the suburbs benefit. To trust or not to trust the range of Yelp reviews? That was the question on a typical work week at Baltimore. The menu seemed promising on paper - a great assortment of the traditional Indian dishes and some increasingly familiar Nepalese staples. The place looked clean and cozy but my coworker who placed his trust in me ( and Yelp!) and me were the only souls at Kathmandu Kitchen, when we went in to try a takeout. Fast forward to my room -- and it was a score! My kashmiri nan hit the spot and the Allo Bodi ( I am starting to realize this combination is known by many a name!) was really good too. It was time to put them to a second, more rigorous test - delivery! My order was almost canceled, the driver almost left without delivering the food, but my vegetable biryani was totally worth the comedy of errors - so will be giving the service another try. They've upped their game!! We had delivery last night, and I swear they must have sent a spy up to Cafe Spice, because it was almost a carbon copy of meals we've had there. Food was the best we have ever had from here!! Our usuals- saag paneer, chana masala, some roti to go with. Spice flavors were full-forward and nicely layered; LOVED the whole slivered ginger on the saag!! Nice bit of heat, sweet-citrusy ginger, eathy-sweet tang of fried garlic infused each bite; saag thick and creamy; chana lightly yet tastily sauced. Food was very good before-- 4 stars-- but as of yesterday it was EXCELLENT!!!! They just went that extra bit more to jazz things up, and it worked wonderfully!! read more

I've only ever eaten there during weekend lunch buffets. I've never had a bad meal. The trick is to go early (before 1:30) because they are a little slow to replenish the food items. I go for the lamb curry which seems to be a buffet staple on the weekend, but they tend to change some of the other dishes, which I like. The rice pudding is usually cold and super sweet with cardamum-the way it "should" be. I've only had Indian food one other time in my life. The place was in Virginia, and it was right before I saw The Dark Knight at the Smithsonian IMAX theater. Possibly the best experience of my life. Anyhow. I ate here last week with my best friend and one of her friends. She's a big fan of Indian food, so I took her word. I tried to Alu Tama Bodi, and it was *delicious*. My father lives in Towson, and this is his favorite restaurant to order his favorite dish: Chicken Tikka Masala! I live in Los Angeles, CA and for my dad's birthday, I wanted to order him his favorite dish for his birthday. I called Kathmandu Kitchen and explained that I would love to place an order for delivery later that day for my dad, and that I was calling from the West Coast and could they help me make sure that the dinner arrived right on time, later that evening. They were SO helpful and even gave me a promo code to save 15% off! But the BEST part, was that they made him a card, with a note from me and also with a lovely message of gratitude and best wishes from them to my dad to drop off with the delivery. They even sent me a photo of it so that I could see what they had done for him. And then, one of the owners made the delivery, just to make sure that everything was perfect and to say "happy birthday." Customer service of this level is exceptional no matter what, but during COVID19 when restaurants are suffering and my dad is living in quarantine alone with me 3,000 miles away, Kathmandu Kitchen brought so much love, light and tastiness into our lives. Reading the other reviews makes me wonder if I went to the same restaurant. The food was possibly the worst I've ever eaten. We had lentils and a tandoori grill platter. The lentils had no salt and no readily detectable taste..the tandoori platter dry and tasteless as well. We were starving but honestly, we left wishing we hadn't eaten. The service was decent and the wait staff attentive. But I am used to good Indian food and this wasn't even close. Maybe the Nepali food is more flavorful and I will defer to someone else's opinion on that. But the Indian offerings need some serious advice and re-working, and since this is a nice location, Kathmandu Kitchen should look into upping their game if they want to successfully serve the discriminating Towson population. read more

Had a father / daughter date day with my 8yr old princess and her good friend. Although they have never sampled Indian cuisine as a father and fine dining chef, its my job to expose my daughters to new things. We had chicken samosa filled great with spice &chicken. Tandori chicken lil on dry side, but the kids loved it. But I also ordered chicken biryani that was very tasty. All the accompanying sauces were bold flavors and receiced rave reviews. The decor was beautiful and impressed the young diners. Bathrooms were very clean and appealing. Overall a satisfactory experience for my girls. We will definition come back again. read more

Decided to order delivery from here based on the good Yelp reviews and very convenient online ordering option. We ordered veg tandoori, the house special, khasi ko masu, which was described as containing "boneless" goat meat, veg samosa, and naan. It was rather expensive at $33 (before tip) but the ordering process was seamless and all seemed well until the food arrived. Fast forward 30 minutes: food arrives, delivery guy leaves, we realized right away that they forgot the samosas. We weren't going to bother calling, but realized there might not be enough food so called to request the missing samosa. The lady on the phone took my name, asked what was missing, and said it would be delivered. No problem. While we're starting to eat and waiting for our samosa we look at the take out menu they put in the delivery bag and see the price of the samosa listed as $2.95.... Apparently we overpaid online where we were charged $4.95. I was truly enjoying the flavors in my veg tandoori until I uncovered a gray and black hair. I'm 28 and so is my boyfriend- no gray hairs here. Gross. I obviously was not about to finish this food. My boyfriend's house special "boneless" goat meat entree also turned out to be the very opposite- containing far more bone than meat- a laborious task to eat and little return for a $14. He definitely would not have ordered it if he knew it wasn't boneless. Pretty disappointing again. It has been 15-20 minutes and we are basically done eating at this point when my phone rings. I've been to Kathamandu Kitchen a couple of times over the years. If you can't find street parking (it's always a mess trying to find parking by this area), it might be worth parking by the Trader Joes/ Barnes and Noble and walking down the two blocks to get here. Kathmandu's menu isn't exactly cheap. To get the best bang out of your buck, come here for the lunch buffet- it ends up being $8 or $9 before tax and tip per person and you get to sample a lot of different food. There are a little over a dozen options to choose from, plenty of naan and rice and they do change cycle out their dishes time to time. Lots of chicken and vegetarian dishes. I thought the chicken tikka masala was good and there were a couple of vegetarian paneer dishes that I also thought were yummy. Service was fine. Food was great! Definitely give this place a go if you're in the area! read more

Great Indian food for a great price. My wife and I are from India and we love this place. The food is authentic and taste very good. We have been to the restaurant and had them deliver and we have at always been satisfied. This is the best restaurant in Towson. All our friends like this restaurant a lot also. This is one of my go-to places for good Indian, especially for take out or their lunch buffet. Always fresh and flavorful, and the staff seem nice and attentive (although I've never gone during regular dinner service). The only thing to be careful of is that it's on the ground floor, and if you have a stroller or someone in a wheelchair, this can be difficult to navigate--luckily though, on my second visit, I discovered the elevator right there in front of me (I went with my sister and niece). What has happened to Indian (Nepali) restaurants in the Baltimore area? Food has gotten blah bland. KK was no different. There was a time when, if you said spicy, you got a hot mix of spices that elated the palate with a good mix of curry leaves, fenugreek, turmeric, coriander, etc. Even if the chilis bounced your tongue into the naan you were thrilled by a good blend of spices. I got tasteless blah. I couldn't even discern other flavors. My dish had a decent creaminess to the cream sauce and well cooked chopped fried veggie balls. The fried onion appetizer was so so, leaned heavily on the oily side. So much for Indian food. read more

Food arrived a little late..with half our order missing. The delivery driver apologized and retrieved our items and brought them back half an hour later. Food was delicious- though light on the meat. Our lamb vindaloo had more potatoes than meat pieces and the chicken tikka masala was mostly sauce. Saag paneer was great, as was the rice (which was topped with caramelized onions). I've walked past Kathmandu Kitchne often, but never stopped for lunch. But I went with my brother on a Friday for the lunch buffet. The selection was small, but all tasted good. I don't like things too spicy and nothing reached my limit. I rarely eat Indian food though, so frankly, I'm not sure what I ate. And that's my biggest problem with the buffet. Each dish is labeled with a name, but no description or indication of spice level or ingredients. There was also no attendant, so I was really at the mercy of my brother's knowledge as to what dishes were about. A card with some information would have been appreciated. At only $10 for lunch, I'll certainly return, though I might want to brush up on my Indian cooking knowledge first. read more

I've been a patron for many years . Until recently this was a 5 star dining experience. The food and service and prices are good. However, the cleanliness of the entire dining experience was a problem. 3 of our 5 menus had crusted dry food on them. The 1st table had a dirty cloth. Our waitress moved us to another table which also had a dirty cloth but we settled for it . Then there is a problem w/ fruit flies. This cloud be easily fixed if you get rid of plants and call an exterminator during closed hours that would be good. The restrooms need cleaning especially when busy. I hope management sees this review and restores it back to normal. read more

The Good: ordered online at 5:24pm, received an email a moment later saying deliver around 6:23pm! The "OK:" at 6:50pm I started to wonder what had happened. No new email or phone call so called the store and ask what was going on. She said 10 mins. 7:15pm rolls around I ask if we should just cancel. "5 minutes." 7:34 and the door bell rings. 2 hours? Really? The Bad: The food was warm, and looked like it had sat for hours. OK, it's delivery food. So, warm it up and we should be good? Right? Chicken Tikka Masala - the famous London dish. Bland, tasteless. The chicken however was actually not bad. Chicken Korma: congealed sauce, chicken was different than the chicken tikka masala. Just an odd flavor. Again, bland. Veggies - salty, but oka. Garlic Nan: fine but at this point, I'm shocked that I'm trying it. Portion Size: We order from the other local Indian joints in the area. I used to rave about this place, and it has just consistently gone down hill over the last year. The flavors of the dishes change almost every time I order. Last time we ordered it the lamb saag, that was just "it" for us. I feel an ingredient was left entirely out, as it tasted overwhelmingly "creamy." Not in a good way. Like sip out of a heavy whipping cream container and there's your saag. It didn't even look to be "overcreamed" either so we we were weirded out. The time before that, I got paneer saag, and the paneer was really weird, really chewy, like overcooked. Chicken momo's were bland AF this time too. The pakoras were off too, they used to be crispy, these were bigger and sort of mushy. Vegetable samosa was on point, hot and crispy. That was the extent of the goodness.
