The black cod was buttery and then soy sauce miso glaze was delicious compliment to enhance the delicate cod. The teriyaki chicken was tender and very flavorful. The fried silken tofu was gentle and crunchy, and perfect side. The sushi roll was well prepared too. I truly enjoyed my bento box. I'm driving for my lunch break and I called into the location to pick up two lobster the receptionist stated "put your order in online" and mind you I'm driving to the location so my food wait would be shorter. I asked do you take orders over the phone. She stated "have a good day" and hung up on me. This is an incredibly beautiful restaurant. The decor and subsequent lighting makes you want to stay there and take your time. I met up with a friend at Kata Robata because of it's reputation and I will say this visit did not disappoint. The second I walked in I was greeted and promptly sat, even though I did not have a reservation. Started dinner with a few pieces of sashimi- I took the waiters advice and grabbed some hamachi with a quail egg (this turned out to be my favorite piece of sushi this entire night!), peppercorn tuna, and salmon. The presentation for all of this was gorgeous and the flavor was spot on. I realized that peppercorn was not my favorite style of tuna, but this was not on the restaurant- purely a matter of my own taste. For dinner I tried the Texas Hamachi roll. Honestly, I loved it and wished I got more. It was perfectly bright and balanced with a crunch (from the tempura) but it all worked together really well. While I didn't finish it, I ended the night by ordering the Spicy Soy Ramen. The broth was incredibly flavorful and I can't complain. 10/10 read more

Probably one of my favorite places in Houston to eat at every time I visit. Have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. They do take reservations, but the last two times I did walk-in and was once seated immediately and the other only about a 10-15min wait. I mostly stick to their heavy hitters and they absolutely do not disappoint. This most recent visit we got the following: - Rising Sun Roll: Pretty yummy roll. Enjoyed the truffle flavor. - Foie Gras & Duck Cold Soba Noodle: An absolute staple item. There is wasabi vinaigrette in it so it does offer a little kick. But really enjoy the richness of it. - Kakuni Pork Belly: Super rich pork belly with a great sauce. The egg could've been a bit more cooked, but otherwise worked well imo. - Texas Kobe Beef Skewer: Sous-vides do wonders and this is no exception. Super juicy beef cubes that melt in your mouth. - Green Tea Soufflé: Really light and yummy dessert to end the meal on since the items I usually get are fairly heavy. Have also gotten the lobster mac and cheese and that's also great albeit heavily. Kata Robata is definitely one of those must-try spots in Houston if you're going to be there for more than a few days. Service is super friendly every time I've dined and I enjoy the wooden decor. Mid to upscale Japanese-inspired spot with friendly service, great for taking family, clients, or otherwise, maybe for occasions. It is not cheap, but the flavors are truly excellent. I think Kata rivals some of the much more upscale Japanese restaurants. Hamachi and Jalapeno--is a direct competitor to a very similar dish from Nobu. Delightfully chewy, delicate, with a strong sour kick. It's not very much food, but is a great sensory experience if you like more delicate/sour flavors. Has nice presentation. Amberjack w/ Foie gras--Might just be my favorite with its combination of creaminess, richness, and texture with the hazelnut. It really is quite complex and I think anyone trying Kata should order this. It is also not that much food, but makes up for it in richness. Miso Lobster Mac-- order this last, as it's pretty heavy. You can also take it to go. Strong crust up top, with creamy cheeses paired with creamier lobster. Very rich/heavy dish. Kakuni Pork Belly-- great texture, cubed pork belly. Very umami, and on the heavier side for your appetite. Less complex than the cold dishes in flavor, however. Sushis were great too, had the Longhorn and Tropical spicy tuna. Both were fresh, had great texture, and would not change anything with them. Overall Kata is a mid to up-scale elevated Japanese spot that punches above its weight. Strong and rich umami flavors, but the dishes are portioned well so you aren't overly stuffed. Definitely on my shortlist for Japanese dining in Houston. read more

A lot of my friends call Kata Robata the best sushi around. That was not my experience, unfortunately. To be fair, I am not a fan of expensive sushi. I make the occasional exception for date nights. The dishes we tried were okay, but didn't blow me away. After a very long wait, we asked our waiter for his recommendations after our first two dishes didnt impress(not mentioned of course) and he really didn't give us anything spectacular to convince us to keep spending money...so we left and picked up tacos on the way home. I do believe we tried the wrong dishes for our tastes, so hopefully when I hear my friends talking about it I hear about a dish that will bring me back! read more

Came with a girlfriend on Friday night with a 6:30 reservation. Upon arrival they tried to seat us on the patio which I wasn't thrilled about but when asked they were able to put us inside. Our waiter took our drink order and then came back for our food order. He was perfectly nice but seemed impatient to place our order and at one point when I was trying to decide between two dishes he just left the table and didn't come back until everything else we had ordered had already come out. The service was incredibly rushed and it felt like they were just trying to flip the table as quickly as possible. With regard to the food, I thought the hamachi lacked spice and I wish they didn't de-seed the jalapeños. Vegan soba salad and the dumplings were fine. I came here for lunch with some co-workers for a birthday dinner and it was great! We definitely enjoyed the lunch specials and I felt that the lunch portion was very filling and enough food for 1 person! I ordered the bento box which was very good! We also shared an appetizer between the 3 of us as well. I had come here once for dinner with a group of 4 and we ordered practically everything. Dreamy + perfectly balanced flavors, incredible quality, and great prices. I dream about the wagyu sando and duck cold soba with foie gras (the wasabi vinaigrette is truly special). Their wagyu stone bowl special is another standout. The warm blueberry cake with lemon earl grey ice cream might be my favorite dessert ever. We always make at least two trips here whenever we're in Houston. Atmosphere is cozy but a bit upscale, never too loud, perfect service. All-around amazing. We stopped by Kata Robata for dinner on a Friday night. I'm glad we had reservations because it was pretty packed and we actually had to wait a bit to get seated even with reservations. We were seated in a table by the back of the restaurant. It was insanely loud that night for some reason so even though our waiter was really attentive, it was a little hard to get refills on drinks or order more dishes just because it was hard to get his attention with such a loud environment. We ordered the madai crudo, the Caribbean maki, and the green tea dessert. We also got the Wagyu Robata, which was the best thing we ordered. It was so tender and the flavor was amazing. Everything was really fresh and the plating was beautiful, but this place is also a bit more pricey than other sushi restaurants of the same caliber, at least for dinner. I think they have a lunch special menu that is a bit more affordable and I think that would be more worth it than the dinner menu prices. read more

The way I had this restaurant hyped up in my mind is probably what set me up for disappointment. The Ramen and the sushi I had were prepared well however the flavor of the dishes were not particularly spectacular or unique. I've done it. I've downloaded an app just to leave a negative review. I hate the idea of leaving negative reviews because of how it could affect a business but Kata Robata is quite popular and no one will probably see this anyway. Since I have nothing else to do as I lay here at 2:30 am in fetal position waiting for the next wave of diarrhea to come out of me, I figured now's a good time to start reviewing. Food: the food was overall mediocre. I've been once before a few years ago but maybe because it was my first real experience with "higher" quality sushi, I remember it being quite good. I took my wife on a date this time and it was very mediocre. The sushi pieces were very average and the Nagasaki ramen was incredibly bland. The wagyu sando was very average as well. Not the biggest deal but definitely not enjoyable with the price we paid. Service: there were multiple staff members who came by to clean up plates and refill water often which is why I'm leaving 2 stars instead of 1. The only person who we had to constantly wait on was our waiter. Eventually I got tired of waiting and asked the hostess to ask our waiter to bring the bill. I think after he took our order (which took about 15-20 mins after we sat down) he didn't check on us once. He was overall very nice though and was probably really busy but would've appreciated at least one drop by. Now the only reason I'm writing a review in the first place, I got food poisoning. Been a while since this has happened and I'm sure it is just a thing that just happens every once in a while but it just sucks when I was looking forward to this as a fun date with my wife. Especially when it is unexpected from a "fancier" restaurant. I'm 99% sure it is from here because I didn't eat anything the entire day. I'm quite unhappy with the fact that I'm laying here in fetal position after a literal waterfall came out of me. I apologize for the imagery. Luckily my wife is fine but we did have quite a different set of food ordered so perhaps something of mine was contaminated. The house salad was my first order with the wagu sandwhich kabobs. I don't even eat steak but they did look amazing. My date was more than thrilled by the kabobs saying they were the best steak he has ever tasted. The salad was delicious , perfectly dressed and just the right amount of substance. Next we had two sushi rolls, one with tempura shrimp and another with tuna . Both excellent. My date enjoyed the wagu skewers so much he actually ordered another round. First time I came around I felt like Kata Robata was too hyped up for me. The prices for the items were expensive and the rolls were mediocre for this Southern California gal who just moved to Houston. I went a second time with a bigger group and got to try so many more things, and WOW. I am so so happy I got to experience Kata Robata again! This is an upscale restaurant that knows they will be serving high quality items. During weekdays lots of workers come here for meals and on weekends it's a place for special events and date nights. Parking is never really an issue because the parking lot is large, but I can imagine the weekends can get a bit packed. Trying everything during my second visit, everything was AMAZING. Got the shu mai, kobe beef skewers, wagyu sandos, sashimi bowl, foie gras with amberjack (?), and all the desserts. Friend got the Soy ramen. I avoided the sushi rolls since I feel like I wasn't wowed the last time. The sashimi was so fresh and tasted delicious. I am still so impressed by the presentation. My go to is the Chirashi bowl during the lunch menu, which offers a good selection of different fish and seafood along with a nice bowl of rice for a very reasonable price. The other appetizers are also delicious, but is a little bit more pricy for the amount of food, though I feel like this speaks more about the value of Chirashi bowl. That said, the Miso eggplant is absolutely delicious. I devoured the dish wayyyy too quickly to get a photo, but its composed with triangle blocks of grilled rice and two-bite size blocks of eggplant paired with a miso sauce. It offers an awesome intro to the meal, though let me hoping the dish is just a little larger. The Wagyu sando is also super delicious. But this may be a little personal preference, but there the sauce is a little too strong and covers the natural taste of the wagyu itself, but I would still strongly recommend you giving it a try, because it will be one of the most tender bites you will ever have! read more

I had the tropical spicy tuna, green tea soufflé cheesecake and a glass of Riesling. The sushi had mango inside the roll and salmon and avocado on top. Delicious! The green tea soufflé cheesecake was also great! My only complaint is that I wanted more lol My friend and I stayed way past when our meal was complete and they continued to fill our water glasses, even though we already paid. You can tell that the staff is trained to pay attention to details and is customer focused. I had a great experience here and will definitely be back! Been coming here for about 7 or 8 years by now and I can't remember a single time the service and food were less than amazing. Last night we went to celebrate a birthday and we ordered the uni cold soba noodles, which were incredible, got some sushi, and had the lobster Mac and cheese, which although sounds cliche, is incredibly good and definitely a must try. At the end of the meal we got the matcha shaved ice, which was amazing as always. OK so the Pros: Food came out pretty quickly Wagyu skewers were so delicious I needed to add another order Black Cod was one of the best I've had Allowing me to order King Crab rolls even though they aren't on the menu Pork Belly was phenomenal Cons: Drinks weren't that good for the price. If I'm paying 16-20 for a drink it should be delicious, but these were just ok. Chu-Toro and Salmon weren't fresh, Idk if it's because I came in on the wrong day or wrong time but I didn't get the best Sushi experience like everyone else did that wrote great reviews. This restaurant is easily 5 stars if the sushi was fresh, but sadly it wasn't. Called ahead for a 9pm reservation for 7 people. They seated us right away as soon as half of our party was here. Service was truly amazing. They have multiple people serving you to clear the empty plates, refill waters, and even got us new plates halfway through our meal. Our main server was Khai, and he was wonderful! It was my first time here and I'd definitely come back. Everything here is flavorful and amazing. My top favorite dishes were the foie gras and duck soba noodles and the uni spoons. The pork belly was MELT IN YOUR MOUTH. It was so soft and yummy! Ordered the a few rolls and nigiri pieces but I liked the Texas Hamachi roll the best. Honestly for how busy they were and how large our table was, the food came out so fast. Not much else to say other than I had a great experience. I'd recommend Kata to about anyone after that dinner.
