Went here for Houston restaurant week to try their lunch. For the first course I got the miso soup, it was as a bit lukewarm and had a subtle umami flavor. The second course I received the nigiri and Handroll set. It came with a spicy salmon and spicy tuna Handroll. The Handrolls were filling. The fish didn't have much flavor and some pieces were a bit chewy probably from the muscle of the fish. The last course I received the mango panna cotta. They also let you have the lunch or dinner at anytime for the Houston restaraunt week. Service was great! Danielle was friendly. Ambiance was a casually upscale.

Visited Aburi Sushi for Houston Restaurant Week and it was a great experience. The restaurant is a modern Japanese cuisine known for a clean, contemporary aesthetic, and spacious interior. However, it is cluster into a small dining area to the point where you can hear almost everyone else conversation. The service was kind, attentive, and very minimal communication. While the food was well presented aesthetically, you could taste the good quality of the ingredients. Highly recommend trying the restaurant with a great dining experience. But do expect not interacting with the servers oddly.

This is our family's favorite sushi place! They have a great happy hour (M-F 3-7, & Sat 3-6), & the hh menu has a great selection. My kids have their favorite items that they order everytime. My daughter gets the shaggy roll & my son likes the simple salmon roll. I love their lychee martini & haven't had anything I didn't like. During the school year, this is our "good report card reward dinner" choice. It's great motivation for the kiddos.

Enjoyed our Houston restaurant week lunch. We had two of us, and tried the chicken satay (tender, delish), turmeric salad (with nice bits of apricot), poke (good portion, Japanese plum was a nice surprise), nigiri and hand roll (well made, smaller portion), Oreo mousse. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. The dining space is beautifully lit and decorated.

Kicking myself for waiting this long to check this place out! ‍ Met up with a friend to try the HRW menu but end up ordering from their Seasonal Lunch Menu because it had more selections of entrees and each entree came with an appetizer (miso soup or salad) and dessert (mango panna cotta or oreo chocolate mousse)! Great price! And the food was DELISH!! EVERYTHING was amazing!

Uptown sushi spot next to the famous mega church. The interior is more spacious than it looks and service and fish quality seem fairly tip top. The nigiri (unagi, chopped scallop, Uni) were fairly solid and comparable to a Kata, Katami, Uchiko type restaurant. Their scallop and foie combo nigiri was excellent. Our staff went all out about their specials and World Cup events that they're promoting. The fish quality seems good and it's definitely worth a try.

First time coming to try and half of our group tried the HRW dinner set and the rest ordered off the menu. Overall, I think the Houston restaurant week dinner set was such a good deal to try out their stuff food and was honestly a lot of food! We ordered the truffle fries and edamame as appetizers on the side and the fries were so good we ended up ordering more. I really like the shape of them! The fish was so fresh and my brother said it was super buttery and some of the best cuts he's had in a while!! The toro crispy rice was really good and I think the fish to rice ratio was great. The food took a little long to come out but nothing crazy. The servers were really nice and attentive and always around if we needed anything. Everyone was super nice and friendly. It's a really nice place. A dim, ambient space, good for like a nicer meal or more casual meals w friends. I would definitely like to come again!

HRW 2026! We arrived a little early for our reservation but they accommodated us easily and we were early enough to enjoy their happy hour menu as we took in the clean, modern aesthetic. We had the truffle fries and the Orange roll. Of the two, the truffle fries were my favorite: perfect thickness, crispy, and the truffle didn't overpower the other flavors as truffle tends to do. As for our HRW selections, we appreciated being able to explore their menu. I will dream about the divinity of the Hamachi 'Ota 'Ika: the exploration of flavors continue to roll over the tongue as you enjoy this delight. My hubs got the Honey Ginger Brussel Sprouts which were also absolutely wonderful. For our second courses, I got the Omakase Plate; he went with the Massaman Salmon. Both were enjoyable and the portions on the Omasake were generous, but the Nigiri offering doesn't merit a return visit...much like the Sara Lee pound cake Aburi attempted to pass off as "butter cake"--fancy presentation, unremarkable courses.

1st time was when I went during their soft opening and it was ok. Service was a little slow (but it was soft opening so understandable) and the omakase menu that we got had a lot going on but nothing stood out tbh. 2nd time I came back with a friend for a quick dinner and I do think the service and quality have changed since the opening. Service was great, we didn't have to wait too long in between orders for our waiter to assist us and the sushi quality has increased imo. The atmosphere was cute and it wasn't loud so we were able to hear each other talk across the table. Our nigiri tasted fresh and yummy, and the drinks were also good! It was a bonus that they got a table for us so quickly since we walked in on Saturday evening (6:30PM). We saw waves of big parties coming in a few minutes after we sat, so maybe we just got lucky. It was a fun and good dinner experience so I'd come by again to re-try the omakase and explore more of the menu!

I was warmly greeted by the hostess and bartender Ann-Marie. Aburi has an intimate vibe (dimly lit, EDM music) and would be a good date spot. I started with my usual Old Fashioned along w the Social Hour Gyoza, then the Iris Roll for an entree. Food, drink, and service were fantastic. Co-owner Jim explained the uniqueness of the Japanese Highball, and offered up a sample. It was a light, refreshing drink. Aburi has good energy, and now a repeat guest when I return to the area.

good parking directly in front of restaurant. made reservations by phone and by opentable app, both quick and easy. Once, we were running about 20 minutes late, when I called to let them know, they were courteous and understanding, held the table for us despite being busy. Utmost customer service both times. Servers were patient, attentive, knowledgeable with the menu and gave good recommendations. Raw fish were fresh and thickly cut. Everything was tasteful. Plate presentations were innovative and aesthetically pleasing. I have not ordered anything that I've been disappointed by. While the dishes look compact, portions are sizable. Establishment and restrooms are clean.

Another exceptional dinner experience here! They have a new drink called the Sakura sour which was lovely, a little sweet and tart. Tried a new app this time, the chicken satay- it was very good, meat was tender and the peanut sauce paired nicely with it. Branched out from the social hour usuals. The nigiri is what this place is known for. At the recommendation of our server, I got the nigiri flight (3 pieces) but added a scallop = foie gras. So glad I did this. Each piece was unique and carefully crafted. My favorite from the original flight was the salmon but they were all quite different from each other. The scallop + foie gras was exceptional- chef gave us some huge pieces of foie gras because we waited a bit for the flights to come out. Hands down one of the best things I've eaten, a complete triumph. This will continue to be my go to sushi spot!

Upon arrival, I was told that I could not sit at the sushi bar and eat. If I wanted to order I had to go sit in the common area of this dining hall. After this discussion, I said fine and asked for a menu. They then told me I had to get up and order at the register and view the menu glued to the counter. They took the order of a couple who sat down maybe 2 minutes before me in front of me. I will never come back to this place. They seem to be the last man standing in this dining hall, and with this kind of customer service, they won't last much longer. It's a shame because I love the food and I am a regular at handies and aiko as well. Won't be back to any of them.

The vibe was moody and lightly lit, and the restaurant was busy with people celebrating. I ordered the sunomono, maguro crudo, salmon and king crab hand roll, and signature nigiri. GENERALIZED REVIEW:…read more Came here with a friend from theatre after a full run--he had this place recommended to him by another theatre friend, so we're just passing on the word. The plaza was a bit confusing to navigate, and I'm pretty sure if the place weren't full of Asian parents and their kids, it would've felt like the shadiest place ever because you have to enter from the back. Otherwise, the plaza had a lot of great-looking stores overall. My first go-to: I've loved drinking Kirin Light ever since I discovered it in Chicago. The flavor is literally so light, with a slight acidity that brightens up my meal. The sake here was frankly also delicious. I didn't order it, but my friend did, and they had it warmed. The flavor was soothing and subtle, almost like tea. It was exceptionally easy to drink, and the ocean-themed ceramicware was a beautiful touch. We ordered two rolls: the Shaggy Dog and the Truffalufagus (a fun tongue-twister). I personally chose the Truffalufagus (which is not fun to spell) because it seemed like the most unique dish on the menu, and I enjoyed it very much. What I liked most about it was that it was subtle yet impactful. I also loved the textures--from the internal crunch paired with the fresh jalapeño to the softness of the fish. I'm glad I gave this roll a shot, and I would be excited to try it again anytime. The Shaggy Dog was great, but it appealed less to my flavor profile. It was a little too rich and creamy for me. I recommended this place to my BF as a potential future date spot--I personally think he would like it... if he weren't the type to enjoy AYCE sushi so much. If they had more unique rolls, I would definitely come back just for those. I was tempted to order the Surf and Turf for this round, but I didn't want to seem like a glutton, hahaha.

The Chawanmushi was decent but it was a little different than I expected. It had a little bit more liquid at the top of the egg custard. The flavor was fine nothing overpowered and it was soft and had that gelatin mush to it. The carbonara udon pasta was creamy and tasted exactly how I imagined it would which was smooth and creamy with a little crispiness from the pieces of bacon. Just make sure you mix the egg into the pasta to give it that rich creaminess. The only dish I would say that was underwhelming was the crispy rice. I guess my expectation would be a little less rice and a balance of the crispy rice around it. It reminded me more so of a thick fried outer crust. However, I did like the fish and meat they used on top of the crispy rice. They all had their own flavors. The Handroll tasting is probably the most interesting dish I ordered. It seemed to have a good portion of fish and they try to keep the seaweed nice and crispy by leaving the plastic film over the seaweed. The flavors of the Handrolls were subtle. They did make a nice presentation. The salmon flight was pretty good you definitely could tell from the different cuts and fattiness of the salmon. My favorite was the aburi cheese the scorched cream cheese gave the salmon a melted coating of cheese and made it silky and smooth. The nigiri platter was almost like a flight of nigiri. In the order I ate them they got progressively better. My favorite was the scallop and tuna. The only roll I tried was the royal chutoro. The portion was a good ratio of rice to fish and the tobiko gave it a slight crunch. as service and parking. The parking costs $10 and it's only Valet. If you decide to park on the curb somewhere you will get a parking ticket (I saw a guy placing tickets on cars). The atmosphere was upscale and you can tell they try to emulate Japan with the decor(zen inspired). Overall, the fish was tasted fresh and the vibes were there. However, I do think everything was a bit overpriced compared to competitors.
