Aka sushi is located on W.Alabama in a strip center right after you cross Shepard drive on the right.. And it is so affordable and good considering its prime location! Me and my best friend stopped by on this Saturday night and sat at the sushi bar and needed no reservations, and this was around 7:15! Sushi was fresh, hot saki was on point , and our waitress Julie was very attentive, in a good way! If you want affordable, budget friendly GOOD sushi , this place has it!!

the ambiance is my favorite part of this restaurant. the decor inside is great and i loved seeing the egl lolita on the wall! japanese street fashion for sure. the service was fine, the waiter was friendly and attentive. i was disappointed with the rolls i had, they left me feeling empty and not flavored. the takoyaki had way to much sauce on it and it tasted bland. overall i was disappointed as i've been meaning to go to this place for awhile. it left me thinking of other places i've been to that i could've went to instead.

Found this place randomly. Service was very good but the food not so. It wasn't bad but i sure had better sushi in Houston area than this.

This sushi house has a great atmosphere. The interior is well decorated, the layout makes sense, and it's an overall good time The menu is solid. They have a variety of sushi dishes as well as other Asian dishes to choose from. Their cocktail menu has plenty of delicious cocktails to choose from as well The staff was friendly and the meal and drinks came out in a timely manner Some tips: The parking situation is somewhat limited. They share a narrow parking lot with other businesses, so, it can fill up quickly. Also, it's a popular spot, so, you may have to wait a bit. Consider sitting at the bar, and you'll still have a waiter and excellent service. Lastly, if you are looking for a place that is open past 10 on a Sunday, look no further. They close at 10:30pm Cheers!!

Hey I came here with my son . I had a medical emergency and had to leave . The food seemed good but not all that fresh as I expected. I got the California roll and a shrimp tempura hand roll . It was cool but I couldn't bite it lol . It was super tough . Service was good. Ambiance is nice as well .

I LOVE THIS PLACE. the sushi is so fresh. My favorite roll is the Louisiana Roll. I also love the house salad with the creamy ginger dressing. Drinks are great also! Service is great and the ambiance is perfect. I like sitting in the darker lit booths. Found this place on Christmas, it was the only place opened in my area.

Overall had a bad time!! Service was good but the food was bad and there was a bad restroom smell in the entire restaurant. Used to be a great place so this was a huge bummer. I went in on Sunday at 12 to catch their happy hour and was surprised to find the place nearly empty - it used to be so crowded on happy hour days!! The nigiri and sashimi quality was atrocious and the salmon had a very fishy flavor. Could not eat. Spicy salmon roll was insanely fishy. Could not eat. Pork belly skewers were completely flavorless. Eel roll was good but that's simply because the avocado was perfectly ripe. Spicy basil wings were fine...I prefer wings too to these. The tempura was good! But that's the only good park. Overall - never going back!

Aka is one of the few restaurants with a weekend happy hour which is what drew me to dine here. No wait to be seated either. The quality of the fish was decent, and we left satisfied. The servings are on the smaller side for the value. however. It was not too expensive for a weekend dinner, but there are high end sushi restaurants with better portions and pricing during regular weekday happy hours.

This place has happy hour most of the time which how I'm rating this review, so it's a fun spot to grab a few small bites. I did get some sushi but I liked the apps better. The service is super quick however I was there to chill at the sushi bar and journal. Both the sunomono and the squid salad were fresh and pretty to look at!

Came for their happy hour which had good small bites but didn't feel like the sushi rolls were anything special Stuffed mushrooms -5/5 would definitely get this again, creamy with bits of tempura on top Calamari - 3/5, no real flavor, the tempura was falling off the calamari Salmon roll: 4/5 good quality of salmon Spicy tuna: 3.5/5 California roll: 3.5/5 Overall nothing really stood out to me and their happy hour deal doesn't include the sushi rolls. I felt that service was a little pushy, asking repeatedly to take our plates and it took a while before anything came out. The inside was decently decorated.

Ever since we discovered their happy hour (3-7pm) and reverse happy hour (after 9pm I believe) sushi, this place became our go to place for happy hour sushi. Their sushi is not the best but it's good. For $9.50, my favorite is the shrimp crunch roll. We also ordered the hamachi sampler which I thought was okay. The cajun and dynamite roll and the agadashi tofu were good also. The total for 3 sushi rolls, 1 hamachi sampler, and an agadashi tofu was $6. My husband and I came here on a Wednesday night after 9pm and there were still a good amount of people but we were seated right away and we didn't have to wait. They have a small parking lot but I can see parking may be challenging if they are busy. The service was fast which was great. Overall, I recommend this place especially for happy hour sushi.

All day happy hour on the weekends !? YES PLEASE. The fish is so fresh and the prices you cannot beat! The servers were quick and made sure we did not wait long to have the food on our table. The place is small but there is enough space that it doesn't feel crowded.

Aka is by far the undisputed reverse happy hour sushi in town. Let me explain. Aka has been here forever. Way before the hand roll, high end omakase and fancy sushi places popped up all over Houston. Their sushi is good to enjoy regular price, but I enjoy coming here the most for HH or reverse HH for cheap good sushi. Can't go wrong with any of the rolls they offer. I like the smoked hamachi, crunchy shrimp roll and of spicy tuna roll. They also have deals on yakitori and appetizers - can't go wrong with the agedashi tofu. They also have decent HH drink prices. Service is always great, and the restaurant has decent decor and relaxing lighting. Aka is really the first place that comes to my mind when talking good and cheap HH and reverse HH sushi dining. Check this place out if you've never been!

From the specials menu, we started with the spicy garlic coconut milk mussels made with fresh Prince Edward Island/British Columbia mussels in a rich spicy garlic coconut cream sauce, topped with green onions and served with toasted ciabatta bread. The broth was incredible and packed with flavor. As an appetizer, we ordered the Texas Wagyu Hot Stone Bowl -- the only rice item on the menu at the time -- made with rice, egg, kimchi sauce, tawan mushrooms, sesame, and green onion. It was prepared tableside for us, which made the experience even more fun and interactive. We also tried the Spicy Soy Ramen with braised ground pork, chili oil, soy milk broth, soft boiled egg, wakame, green onion, and micro cilantro. The flavors were rich, comforting, and had the perfect amount of spice. The Nagasaki Champon Ramen was another standout with clams, shrimp, cabbage, pork, onion, ginger, and micro cilantro in a flavorful broth that tasted fresh and authentic. The restrooms were very Japanese-inspired and beautifully maintained, adding to the atmosphere of the restaurant. Gabby was an amazing waitress -- attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire dining experience even better. Then there was dessert: Green Tea soufflé and chocolate milk bread pudding! I hope i get a picture of it!!! Service is GREAT! Drinks are filled. Needs are met- and exceeded!!!0 Parking is self parking, but it was worth it. We will definitely be back again to try many more items on the menu! Come early if you want to hear your partner it gets LOUD!

She clearly forgot to ring it in and then brought us the check. We then asked for the glass of wine and she brought it with a revised check. We also never saw a manager during our visit. At the end, we were charged 20% gratuity for a group of 7... seemed strange. Not saying we wouldn't have tipped that but it didn't sit well knowing the service was so bad.

Zach the chef was also very knowledgeable as well and presented each dish beautifully. Started off with the "Alive" cocktail which was a tequila based drink. Pretty strong and refreshing citrus taste! Ordered the the 4 Temaki set which included Hotate, Salmon, Negitoro and Crab. My favorite was deff the crab handroll, had a yummy buttery taste. Extra handrolls we got the Steak & Eggs handrolll (taste just how it sounds and the steak was nice/tender) and an extra Crab Handroll. Also, got 2 diff Donburi's which is the Negitoro Donburi and Bluefin Tuna Donburi (SOOOO worth it, it had Akamai/Chutoro/Otoro and all melted in your mouth and was fresh and paired great with the sauce it came with). The rice overall, was seasoned and cooked great as well. To add on the side, we got their chilli crunch which was a nice topper for our hand rolls. To end the night, we got the Raspberry Kakigori (super soft ice and refreshing). Pretty close to Japan! Seating was a very chill vibe with vinyl players and good music. I ordered the three hand roll set with a maguro hand roll add on. If I had to rank them, it would be: 1. Hotate:The lemon zest pairs incredibly well with the scallop. 2. Salmon: Super creamy thanks to the sauce. 3. Maguro: Also creamy from the avocado. I personally do not prefer avocado in my hand rolls, but it was still good. 4. Negitoro: A little fishy and more plain compared to the others. Overall, the hand rolls were very generous with both rice and fish. I was a bit surprised by the side of pickles since I usually expect ginger and wasabi, but the pickles were a game changer. The hand rolls did not need soy sauce because they were already full of flavor. The service was attentive, and they even offer warm towels at the beginning. Overall, this is definitely a place I will be coming back to regularly.

Opted for the salmon trio sashimi, tontoro skewers, and one of their new appetizers, the yuzu ageimoono (?). The taro potato balls were delicious, smooth with a nice light crispy shell covered in a salty, light yuzu dressing. The tontoro was delicious, well roasted, not too fatty, and tender. The salmon trio was also great, coming with king salmon, regular salmon, and smoked salmon. To be honest, I could tell there was a difference between the king and regular salmon, but I couldn't really tell which one was which. I also had a bite of my friend's tantanmen, which was basically like the Japanese version of dandan noodles and it was delicious, great nutty flavor with a touch of spice. It has a pretty nice menu. While it is a touch higher in price point, it is pretty reasonable for Houston. The quality is pretty equivalent to what I had in Japan, although as expected, more expensive. We arrived around 5:40pm on a Friday night and there was plenty of seating. However, by the time we finished around 6:30pm the restaurant was bustling. The waiter told us he expected a very busy evening. Chicken karaage arrived first and was done very nicely. The exterior was super crispy and the inside juicy and moist. Yum. I was seriously tempted to order another plate since it only came with 6-7 pieces. Next, all the ramens came out. I got the shoyu truffle which I enjoyed a lot. I liked that you can taste the truffle flavor without it being overpowering. Also liked that the broth itself wasn't as salty as some ramen places. Noodles were al dente and all the toppings were tasty! Loved that the char sui actually had a good amount of lean meat versus it being mostly fat. The char grilled bamboo shoots were a nice touch as well. I tried my son's tonkotsu shoyu and enjoyed it too. I think my least favorite was my husband's tonkotsu gachi ramen, but he enjoyed it.
