I'm gon stray away from my usual review style and instead tell a story that sums up the kind of place Kareem's is. So I walk into what looks like a cute little garden patio/kitchen and I'm stuck between sauteed steak with onion and tomato (galaya i assume?) and the shakshuka (eggs into tomato sauce). I asked if the tomato sauces were similar to which the nice lady at the counter confirmed. So then I asked for the sauteed steak but with a side of 2 eggs. She looked confused at first, saying they never done that but will try and asked how would I like my eggs. I got them both sunny side up and it tasted exactly how I imagined it to. The perfect, protein heavy, arab steak and eggs with the tomato sauce. Halfway through my meal, she even stopped by to check if everything was to my liking and expectations. "Did we do that right? Is that how you wanted?" Just goes to show the level of care and hospitality they have for the guest. Kareems is a small mom and pop shop located in Anaheim. Their space is decently sized with three two seater tables indoors and a nice patio area for larger parties. They have an extensive menu between platters, wraps and bowls. I ended up a grabbing a plate with steak, along with a side of hummus and chickpea salad. I also ordered the 96' Falafel Wrap to try. Both were delicious and the wrap was packed with greens all around. Definitely recommend the 96' wrap if you're craving a salad without wanting to eat a salad. The plate however offered substantial flavors but definitely best eaten all together versus individual pieces. The combination of salad, hummus, meat and lavash was delicious and unbeatable. Im definitely excited to have found a great mediterranean place near Disneyland if Im ever around SoCal again. Last but not least service. We were met with utmost hospitality and kindness. The woman running the register felt like an older grandma and the gentleman who turned on our space heater was super kind. It can't get any better than that. What a terrific find! I know Kareem's has been around awhile but, I just discovered it and, I have a lot of catching-up to do! Though it's located in a strip mall, Kareem's is an absolute oasis; a bright and happy setting with a few tables inside and many more in its very nice garden patio. Everyone who worked there was efficient, friendly and helpful. They had a wide variety of wraps, bowls and salads, but I went with my tried-and-true kufta plate. The plates come with pita bread, garlic or tahini sauce, and two sides. For the sides, I chose the babaganoush and the always refreshing cucumber yogurt. My table also ordered a side of the restaurant's namesake falafel; it was some of the best I've had in years. Every part of my meal was delicious, from the perfectly cooked meat to the grilled onions that topped it. Although I would definitely order this again, there's so much more on the menu that I'll explore in future visits. I'm counting the days to next weekend, and my next visit to Kareem's! read more

They are famous for their falafels and vegan dishes but I wanted to try something with meat so settled on a chicken bowl. All the food sold here is HALAL. Chicken bowl ($14.50) - This came with lettuce, rice, a choice of spread, pickled onions, cucumbers, tomatoes, cabbage, pita crisps, feta cheese, cilantro, yellow peppers and a choice of sauce. I went with hummus as my spread and garlic as my sauce. The bowl had fresh ingredients and the grilled chicken meat was similar to how I prepare it (I use a marinade of lemon, smoked paprika, garlic, yogurt sauce). Overall, it's not a bad value, but taste wise I do prefer nearby Sababa Falafel. They have patio seating which looked very tranquil and peaceful and I was happy to see that they sell Palestinian goods, including olive oil. read more

A side of falafel was also ordered since they had a huge freezer with bags of them and just looked amazing! First of all, their plates are so pretty to look at. Just stopped at Kareem's Falafel to grab some falafel, lol. I found it a bit pricey, slightly over $1 per piece--though maybe that's because I'm used to Middle Eastern prices, having been to many countries where this dish originated and enjoyed falafel for just a fraction of the cost. In general, it's definitely overpriced in America for falafel. That being said, I paid about $17 for 15 pieces. The falafel was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, which is exactly how I like it. I'd rate it a solid 8/10--pretty good compared to a lot of other places around here. While visiting my aunt in Anaheim, we decide to have Mediterranean for dinner. I found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to check it out. The restaurant looked closed but, you have to open the white gate to enter the premises. I love that this restaurant sells some of the items they serve. They offer pickled beets, frozen falafel and their pita chips for sale which I think is great! I ordered the chicken bowl which came with lots of pickled veggies, salad, rice, hummus and tahini. The chicken was slightly dry but, still delicious and everything paired so well. The hummus had great flavor and I love the complimentary infused water they offer. Kareem's! Babe, Kareem's! This was the sounds that broke through the haze of a heavy night of drinking. On this morning sound, not sight, would be the first one to greet me. Had the universe given me a second chance to not repeat the sins and vices I had so happily committed the first time around? No! The universe is not that kind or that cruel. That voice was birthed from the one I call my better half on good days and my roommate on the bad ones. But what the heck did she know about the 'skyhook' or the Laker's legend who has meant so much to those in the southern part of this state? She knows nothing about the aforementioned topics my friends but she knows what her tummy wants and when it wants it. And on this annoyingly bright day she wanted to head to Little Arabia and eat some of the best Mediterranean food Orange County has to offer. Seeing as I had loads of alcohol in my stomach, it just made sense to send down some hot & crispy falafels, kufta, medi churri steak, chicken, tabouli, hummus and of course that delicious garlic sauce to provide some gastric CPR to a very wounded and scared tummy. Voila! It had worked! Once I raised my head from 15-20 minutes of maniacal eating I realized that it had happened. My stomach, my precious stomach, was no longer mad or giving me the non-silent treatment. It had forgiven me for all the harm I sent its way less than 24 hours ago. And although the universe hadn't granted me the much in demand 'second chance,' it did provide me with an inside seat on this hot day. Thus, I was able to enjoy this delicious elixir in the comfort of air conditioning and away from the oppressive sun. Falafel Plate: The five falafels have a crispy golden-brown exterior and a green herby interior. They are like firm croquettes, seasoned nicely with herbs and spices and soft on the inside. Crack them open and dip them in the smoky paprika tahini sauce. The tart and juicy pickles have just enough crunch. You can choose two sides and I couldn't decide between the grape leaves, spicy hummus, and fries. So, I ended up with creamy babaghanoush and rice. Scoop it all up with the warm pita with some tasty chili sauce thrown in. Diving Area: There are five tables indoors and about nine tables in the patio. I'm beyond disappointed with this place. I love Mediterranean food, found this place online, it had great reviews so I decided to order take out for my 3yr old daughter and I. Long story short as I'm eating the cucumber yogurt salad at home I bit into a small, hard solid piece of fragment. I immediately spit it out in disgust, it was a small silver chest-like game piece. My first instinct was to place it on a metal surface and confirmed it was a MAGNET!! I immediately contacted the restaurant spoke to Nora to report this incident (she originally helped me place my order). She apologized and confirmed she knew what I had bit into - apparently they use these magnets to stick the printed orders in the kitchen for the cooks to prepare food. She tried making things right by issuing a store credit (but to be honest I lost complete trust and don't plan on EVER eating here again). She refunded my order instead. I emphasized the serious HEALTH RISK this could have caused if my 3yr old daughter swallowed this magnet! This was also a potential unsanitary risk due - I recall seeing kitchen staff walking in and out of the kitchen opening the door into a room across while we were waiting for our food at the restaurant. This was a very traumatic and concerning experience to say the least. I requested to speak to the manager, Nora shared his name was Mike and he was out of the office the day I reported the incident. I asked her to please relay this experience to him and to please have him call me as this was a very sensitive matter. Until this day, I have NOT heard back at all from manager Mike. I attempted follow up multiple times by calling the restaurant in hopes of getting ahold of the manager but the phone just rang and eventually hung up on its own. I never received a response which I find odd because it was same number I called when I first called to report the incident. As a manager of a restaurant your lack of concern for a dangerous object in food is UNPROFESSIONAL and UNACCEPTABLE. I escalated this to the OC Health Department a week after never hearing back to ensure others are safe. read more
