Chicken koobideh with lubia polo
Jeremy S.

I wanted to come here with my family during New Year's Eve for Persian food. There's a lot of seating inside, and we didn't have to wait to get a table. It was nice to see different tables with both group and solo diners. We each got rice dishes and shared borani ($8.99), a warm appetizer dip with eggplant and yogurt. We had complimentary pita bread to eat the dip. I got the koobideh combo ($18.99) with lubia polo ($4), a savory rice with beef, green beans, tomatoes, and other spices. While lubia polo has an add-on fee, it makes the dish much better, even when the default basmati rice already tastes good. The beef that comes with the lubia polo is very soft and has a hint of sweetness. The ground chicken and beef were so juicy. As usual, their cooking is very commendable. Also, like always, we had leftovers to take home. Service is good, and the usual staff checked in on us multiple times. The staff here recognize us, and they're friendly. Note that they add 18% gratuity on to your dine-in receipt. Any tips would be on top of the required service charge. Overall, I highly recommend coming here for filling and delicious Persian rice dishes.

When walking into the restaurant, they've got a cute little pool for koi fish, but I hope they may clean it out since it looks murky. Coming inside the restaurant: looks fine! Nothing spectacular, but definitely feels like a family ran restaurant which I love :-)! Service was decent. Had to get up a few times to ask for additional items. Everyone is nice. Food was beyond 10/10! I have been to different persian restaurants, and I might believe this place offers better quality and taste! Definitely coming back! Thank you Hatam.

Food was fine, our beef koobideh was a little rare in the middle and the chicken was over cooked, but the worst part was the forced 18% tip hidden at the bottom of the menu. Staff came around once or twice, after eating behind the counter as they worked. A forced tip is odd for the type of service they give.

18 % will be added to your bill. Foodie beware.

The food gets 4 Stars. Service is 2 Stars. The older lady in the glasses has a bad attitude at times she also added 18% Gratuity to our bill and there wasnt anything stating there would be a "Gratuity" charge added to our bill. If your service was good then I could feel a little better about the charge but it seems a bit excessive. Our $77 bill suddenly jumped to $98. The younger lady is super sweet and attentive so I must shout that out.

There are 2 Hatam Restaurants, with this Anaheim location, situated near the 5 and 91 freeways being the first. Hatam has been around for 30+ years and specializes in Persian fare and all the food served here is HALAL. You'll find great tasting kabobs here (beef/chicken kobbideh, barg (filet mignon), and boneless chicken). They offer a variety of chicken, beef, lamb and trout options. Their salads and appetizers, especially borani (sauteed eggplant, yogurt, onions and garlic) are refreshing. They have several rice options including: regular, dill rice, sour cherry rice and my personal favorite: adas polo (basmati rice mixed with raisins, lentils and dates). Besides their restaurant, they do local catering which I have utilized numerous times. I have referred them to colleagues and friends who have had positive experiences as well. On this particular occasion I utilized them to cater a work event for 75 people. The event took place at Irvine Regional Park for lunch. Our menu consisted of: rice, salad, bademgaan (sauteed eggplant dish), beef koobideh kabobs, boneless chicken kabobs, grilled tomatoes, and pita bread. They provided utensils, napkins, take away boxes and arrived on time for our event. I told them I wanted to serve food at 11:30am, and they made my day by arriving at 11am. I had to attend a prayer service at 1pm, so everything worked out perfectly as I was able to get to my appointment on time. Overall I have always had a positive experience with Hatam. The quality of their food is excellent and the pricing for their catering service as well as customer service is excellent! The owner (Hossein) is a really kind man and was available whenever I needed to get in touch with him to make changes to the catering menu as well as quantity of guests.

It definitely is a requiring taste so if you like Persian food, I will definitely recommend this place. Not only because the customer service is excellent. It's a clean environment, but the ambience is very welcoming and intimate where you feel welcome. The food is great portions and the prices are reasonable. They do have a decent size menu. I got the lamb which I didn't really care for the taste, it was a little bit too gummy for me but the rice of course was absolutely amazing and then the bread with the onion my first time trying it, but definitely will do this at home so overall experience I would definitely give it at eight out of 10 and I definitely would recommend to anyone that wants to try some authentic Persian food

Delicious Persian food. My family has been eating here for years. We always order their food for family parties and everyone loves it. I love their Beef Koobideh and Chicken and their Borani. Definitely a spot worth coming in to try!

My go to place for Persian food. I honestly think it may be the best Persian restaurant in Southern California!

Take a right and right there, on your right is Kabaji Grill, right? Right. Pass through a glassed in patio with many tables from which you can watch the odd scruffy local watching your car. Eventually, the patio will fill with hungry people and a haze of Hookah smoke. I checked in with the Hostee and waited for her to make eye contact. She was polite but flirting with being curt. She looked up from her Cell and waited for me to speak. "I've come to eat here." Without a word she bid me to follow her and I did. She stopped at a table in the rear dining room and her chin motioned me to sit. I sat. "Ready to order?" she asked as soon as my butt nestled onto the chair. "I am waiting for someone." I replied. She nodded and floated back to her podium like a ballerina on skates. A few minutes later she returned. "Are you ready to order?" "I am waiting for someone." Off she sashayed. I inspected my surroundings. The Table cloth had a mosaic of spots where food had landed due to prior enthusiastic dining. Half the spots found the chairs. Okay, four enthusiastic diners. Turning attention to the menu my guest texted "I am hopelessly lost." The menu displayed a note, noting that the Full Menu was in transition and would be available soon, just not for me. But there is plenty to choose from any way. Much of the Menu is written in phonetic Arabic. You might consider a crash Babbel Course to hit the chair "ready to order." A music loop suddenly invaded my harmony. The Middle Eastern music would have been better suited for enhanced interrogation. But then it is a Middle Eastern resto so its appropriate. I embraced the loop which set the tone for dining well in Beirut when Beirut was the Paris of the Middle East. The Staff: Fadwa. Yes, Fadwa. Not to be confused with Fatwa. She was a delight in a spotless Kabaji Grill Tee Shirt. A smile to light up the room. She was helpful, ready with a suggestion, and it was apparent she enjoyed caring for her quests like a mother hen. No one can say Fadwa was a bad Ma. Having her guests enjoy their dinner here was her primary mission. She succeeded. Initially I thought the food was seriously Syrian instead of lovely Lebanese, which it is. The Food: Mumtaz! My guest staggered in with the Hostee who asked, need I say it? "Ready to order?" The first item out of the kitchen was a mound of terrific Taboulleh as large as a football helmet. It was dressed with quality Olive Oil and Lemon. This was easily the best Taboulleh I have ever had and worth having chopped Parsley work it's way between every tooth. A basket of fresh baked Pita showed up shortly and was a perfect platform to enjoy the entire meal. Next came the Shish Tawook (Chicken Kebob) right from the Grill. A roasted Onion, Tomato and a Jalapeno as big as Shaq's thumb graced the plate in addition to excellent Garlic Sauce and Shatta (Hot Sauce). A cup of sliced Cornichon was a welcome addition. Stuff a Pita with everything you can reach. The Pita is sturdy enough to handle it. The Chicken Nuggets were devoid of grease and/or fat. They were all tender, moist, juicy and piquant. What else could you want? Peace in the Levant? How about starting with this Shish Tawook? Peace will come. If everyone involved had this to eat, peace would come quicker. I was truly delicious. So, let's see, oh gee, I'm coming back to Kababji as soon as finish the leftovers I took home.

Each skewer came with decently sized portion, although some of it does shrink when cooking. Depending on which meat you order, some will take a while to cook (i.e chicken skin), so would plan according. Each meal comes with kim chi and radishes which paired well with our skewers. Overall, it was a good meal. Although they primarily specialize in skewers (including lamb, beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and vegetables) there's also main dishes you can order such as dry spicy hot pot, fried rice, and stir fry beef udon. The generally vibe inside probably leans towards large group outings where you order soju or sake with some friends and just have a good time. However, it also a good place to bring family or kids and just enjoying watching the skewers rotate on the grill. The service here was good and the skewers came out pretty quickly. I could see myself coming back here again.
