Feasting on delicious Pork Katsu Curry and Tempura Sets at Kaneko Hannosuke! Don't miss the passion fruit drink! My favourite tempura spot has come out with their new pork Katsu curry . I love how flavourful and crispy their tempura and pork Katsu were. Their passion fruit drink was delicious and refreshing. Their dishes are family friendly and make for the perfect lunch or casual dinner. Good service and food freshly prepared... worth the 10 minutes wait. We are here on a Thursday evening to have a quick dinner before going for the movie. We both like the Tendon set- the special with white fish and my husband has the oyster set. Love to come back again. They claim the food is prepared with no MSG.

This is a joke..... secretly put half bowl split here to make u think it's worth the portion. Taste very bad. Please don't come

Kaneko Hannosuke serves Japanese style Tempura rice bowls known as Tendon in the TABLES food court at the Amazing Brentwood. I ordered the Oyster Tendon for lunch. The tempura was lightly battered and not very greasy. Tempura is excellent here.  While the food here was superb, I was a bit disappointed with the way they served the rice. Everything came in a large bowl which upon first glance gives the appearance of having a lot of rice in it. However, it turned out that there was a shallow plastic tray sitting on top of the bowl, and the food was placed inside this shallow tray. This meant that there was actually a lot of empty, wasted space in the bowl and really not as much rice in the dish as it first seemed. I don't have a very large appetite so the rice was still a sufficient amount for me. In principal though, it does seem misleading as well as wasteful to be using those big bowls, when the food isn't even sitting in those bowls; rather the food is sitting in smaller plastic trays on top of the bowls. It seems to me that they could do a bit of rethinking about how they package and serve their food to people. We wanted to try this restaurant in downtown Vancouver the day before but it was closed due to a power outage. I found that there was a second location so we decided to go to the Burnaby location. This branch was actually located inside the food court in the Brentwood mall in Burnaby. The food court looked really pretty and modern. The place had different varieties of tendon so I opted for the premium tendon. It consisted of a rice bowl with conger eel, shrimp, kakiage, soft boiled egg, seaweed, and green beans. It took them about 15-20 minutes for them to make the tempura. The rice bowl also came with a side of miso soup and pickled ginger. The tempura was light and crispy. The conger eel was huge and juicy. I liked the fried soft boiled egg with a runny yolk. However, I thought they gave too much rice and not enough sauce. Otherwise, it was a good tempura meal.

I really want to like this place as I have waited a while for it to open. I had high hopes. I hardly order tempura now as I do not really eat deep fried food (exception is fried chicken, who can resist fried chicken?). My experience with the other tempura place (Tendon Kohaku) just a couple blocks away from here was so positive and I thought Hannosuke would make a great addition to this food court since both are from Japan. I came here twice over two days. Once in the morning and once in the evening. Do not come here hungry or if you are in a hurry. Generally it will take around 20-30 minutes for the food to be ready. I was first in line and it still took 15 minutes. The selection here is a bit wider with scallop and oyster tempura in the menu. I like the oyster tempura and this will be the only reason if I do come back again. The premium tempura comes with conger eel and this is where it fails. I find the eel has quite a heavy taste to it, add the tempura batter and deep fried, it becomes very rich. It has an oily aftertaste and sits uncomfortably on the stomach. You will need Chinese tea or green tea to get rid of the greasy feeling. Unfortunately I do not think any of the stalls sell such tea. Your best bet in a pinch would be to go buy a box of tea from London Drugs and ask for hot water to brew your own. The ginger which came with the meal helps a little. I had to have pu-er tea when I got home. The other thing which seems tricky is that there is a plastic container occupying half the paper bowl and your entire meal is in that plastic container. If you are a big eater or very hungry, you will feel cheated. The portion is actually ok for me and I have to struggle to finish it. The dishes here are quite dear as it starts from $16.95 to $19.95. Maybe they factor in the miso soup which comes with it. Another reason why this place is not that great is that the tendon is not crispy nor does it have an airy batter to it. It is a bit soggy plus the sauce is quite typical.

So with the whole tempura bowl hype around town, the latest addition has opened at the new Brentwood food court. Parking is available on the W and N sides of the mall, as well as a paid underground lot. Maybe I came in with expectations that were too high, but honestly I was disappointed. First, the pricing is steep. This is a food court, but the pricing is similar to a sit down restarant nearby that serves the same type of food (Tendon Kohaku). Second, the wait time is long. The food takes 20-30 minutes after placing the order. To be honest this alone makes this place a bad choice for a food court. Luckily my friends and I weren't in a rush, but this would be a showstopper if we were. I imagine most people who eat in food courts are on the go and don't have this kind of time to spare. The tempura isn't bad. There is a decent amount of battered goodies in the premium bowl, including a prawn, some scallop, and a nice large piece of eel. However, everything here is really greasy. They don't do a good job removing the grease. It's a lot heavier than the competition. Oh yeah, the combos also come with a miso soup. Yay! The kicker though? The container is 2/3 freaking AIR. Don't let the pretty photos fool you. I didn't realize it until I stabbed the bowl with my chopsticks and heard a hollow thud. Huh? Turns out they serve a shallow "bowl" (more like a plate) that fits inside the deep paper bowl. See photos. My friends and I were all WTF. This might work once per customer, but honestly these guys are shooting themselves in the foot if they think they're pulling a fast one. Guess who went home and told all his friends not to eat here? Then there's also my friend who I can confirm was puking in the washroom after eating her food. (hint - see the 1 star review). I know times are hard during the pandemic, but this is not the way to build customer loyalty. Yikes. Not recommended. Go to Tendon Kohaku instead.

We tried a Premium Japanese Tendon (Tempura Rice Bowl) from 金子半之助. This bowl has conger eel, shrimp, assorted seafood tempura, soft-boiled egg , seaweed, green bean, special sauce, and rice. The tempura was decent, but it would be better if they were not that greasy. The tempura seems different than the Downtown location. The food was lack of the bright golden battered tempura, and they were in a darker colour. I will not go back to Hannosuke Tempura. There are a few reasons to this. They charge $21 for the premium bowl and it is not as good quality and fresh compared to its competitor Tendon Kohaku. They used oil that have been used multiple times. If you look at the fried tempura, you can see that the color is darker (dark brown color) instead of a light golden color. I got sick from the eating the Premium Tempura Tendon Bowl. After eating it, I started to feel bloated and then after sitting for a while, I started to feel very unease. I ended up in the bathroom throwing up. I didn't get the entire thing out of my system but I would say 25% of it. I did end up constantly going to the bathroom after that. I believe it had something to do with the oil. The oil was not fresh and the food was too greasy. I do not believe my stomach was able to handle that much grease. Hannosuke Tempura Tendon Tokyo just opened May 17, 2022 and they were offering 50% off to the first 50 customers every day till May 19, 2022. I went with other Yelpers who wanted to try the food on May 18 after 5 pm. We didn't get the discount but I believe they must got a lot of customers in the morning. I do not think they have changed the oil since they first opened. Also after ordering, I realized the wait was around 30 mins to get our food. They had 15 people working in the stand and it still took that long. They are located in a food court and in American culture, food court food are supposed to be fast. The taste of the premium bowl or the tempura also left a very strange after taste. Their tempura was not crispy. Rice was that great. Also you do need an iron stomach to be able to handle the food here. I have worked in fast food when I was younger, they should have changed the oil in between or filter the oil when needed. Also their food portion is somewhat deceiving. The food is served in a container in a bowl. But again the portion size of the premium tempura tendon was more than enough of me. I will not be back after not feeling well or recommend trying the food.

New tempura only eatery popped up in the Amazing Brentwood other Yelpers had wanted to try. There are perhaps 10-12 versions of tempura on rice combos to be had. Their prices range from 17-20$ per bowl at the time of writing May 18, 2022. Being where we are and the time we are in, we expected to be gouged. Well kiddos, you are in for a shock. The clever paper bowl the food is presented in has in fact a plastic shelf making the presented content 1/2 of the actual food. Not saying this is bad, just slightly scammy. Ok very scammy. On to the food, it is okay. Nothing special. So then why come here? Is it worth it? Nahhhhh. I doubt any Yelpers will review this kind of practice as value proposition -not worth it.

Dinner @kanekohannosuke.vancouver @the.amazing.brentwood Wow, Hannosuke Tempura Tendon Tokyo is Open in the TABLES food court. They have pretty much the same tempura bowl menu as the Kohaku Tendon restaurant @ Madison Centre. Oyster Tempura Bowl is the only item that is not served at the restaurant. I ordered it To-Go. The paper bento box has a paper tray inside the paper box. All the ingredients including two huge deep fried oysters, two , seaweed, bean, egg, and squid bits, are nicely packed in the box. The tempura sauce is in a squeezed bottle. The soft boiled egg is a bit disappointed because it should be deep dried tempura egg compared to the Kohaku Tendon Taste: 3.8/5 I just took a picture of someone's dine-in Ebi Tempura Bowl. If you have those food court coupons from the mail, now you can use it and save $3 off. I opted for the Sea Scallop don and the rice was cooked perfectly. The scallops were also so plump and tender, and even slightly sweet!! I've been here before and just got the basic shrimp bowl and this scallop one blows it out of the water. The seafood tempura piece was so good too. The squid/cuttlefish (I'm bad at this lol) bits were very tasty with just enough chew. Not tough at all. Shrimp tempura was solid. There are definitely places that serve it with a crispier crust but it was still good. Egg was slightly more done and not super runny, but rather an interesting jammy texture that actually mixed well with the rice. The sauce I found less salty than other competitors and with a yuzu after taste which could get a little strong if you didn't mix your sauce properly. Also love the cute little bottle it comes in!! The fruit tea was refreshing and fruity, leaned very 'not sweet'. I kind of wish I could open up the top and scoop out the fruit slices! All in all a very nice meal, as a small eater I also had some leftovers to take home for the next day. Thank you again to the team at Kaneko Hannosuke for the hospitality!

Finally open guys!! Come!!! So i came to try again from last time the other branch. I hope i could get something better for my 2nd experience well unfortunately I regretted it again maybe i shouldnt come back anymore. Small portion and rice wasnt as good as tendon kohaku. Tendon kohaku has spicy sauce too. Nevertheless, someone in my party had food poisoning too ouch. I hope you guys all the best though and would keep on moving forward! Cheers! P.S. ask for extra tempura sauce!!

    Premium tempura bowl. Loved this!

The highlight for me was the black truffle dynamite roll, it's taste was perfect. The right amount of truffle used and not over powering like I've had at so many other venues. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and I would go back for special occasions.

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close.
