Stopped by for dinner and it was very yummy. Noted that there was only one server working the entire restaurant - he was nice and quick though. You use the iPad to order and ask for refills and the bill. For $2.99 extra you can get unlimited miso soup and salad. Sashimi was fresh today and tempura was crispy. They also have specials for members too / I got a free ice cream!

New summer special: Flame grilled steak

A bit ashamed to say that it took a lot of convincing from my wife to give this place a try at first. Who wants to eat a n entire meal of tempura? Won't that be too oily and heavy? Turns out the answers are: me, no and no. This place has a relatively small menu but none of the options miss. Every piece of tempura here is so incredibly delicate and delicious, from kobucha pumpkin to a tempura egg. My personal favourite is the Kohaku Tendon which gives a good variety, but the Anago Tendon comes with a MASSIVE piece of eel if you're into that. They also have a summer special right now including flame grilled steak pieces. Ambiance is nice and quiet with soft piano music often playing. Service is always extremely quick, and they've recently installed ipads at the tables you can place your order on. Be sure to sign up for their membership for free items and access to the daily special

I love the ambiance of this location. Definitely is very pretty. The food itself is worth the price I got the classic tendon kohaku and it was only $16 after tip! The water was also very nice when we asked about the $1 tea for signing up with their rewards program.

My go to here is always the Sashimi Aimori Tendon. It's a bit on the pricey side (~$20) for just some tempura but it's fried really nicely! I find that they're also consistently good as I've visited a few times so it's definitely a place I see myself going back to often. They have several locations across Vancouver. The one I visited was a short walk away from Brentwood mall so very easily accessible via public transit! The interior of this location is absolutely beautiful. They have dim lighting with a lot of soft wood and soft colours all around. It's very pretty inside.

An absolute gem to have in the Burnaby neighbourhood - we are truly blessed to have amazing eateries without having to hike "far". Again - I am a huge fan of the staff and their kind customer interactions. The only thing I would add is when you're in the "L" nook of the restaurant it can be sometimes hard to get staff attention (they are usually attentive but obviously sometimes people eat faster than normal, or need more items, etc and just my general feedback from dining here so often and viewing others). The tempura is perfect. It so light and crispy and never leaves you feeling oily or heavy (as it shouldn't). You can certainly taste elevated quality in their tempura. My favourite is the unagi (eel) and their soft boiled egg. I ask for the sauce on the side so I can control how much I want for each bite. They have regular and spicy or a spicy powder (in a cute wooden box) you can also add for more heat. I'm not sure about the tempura udon (as I think that was seasonal when I last went) but if it's still on the menu I'd also recommend ordering it! It's a comforting bowl of goodness and great for warming up. Their chirashi is great for an alternative if you don't feel like tempura. It is also perfectly seasoned and very light. They have a bowl of half tempura and half chirashi if you're wanting the best of both worlds. The Nagoya chicken wings are to die for. The sauce is a great mixture of sweet, salt and spice (again can opt for regular or spicy sauce). They're loaded with flavour and are a perfect appy to add to your table. We had also ordered the kabocha salad which is very hearty and denser than I'd prefer. It isn't my personal favourite but to each their own!

Who doesn't love tempura? With three locations, Tendon Kohaku is dishing up some crispy deliciousness! Tendon = tempura + Don (over rice). So its a bowl of lightly fried vegetables and/or proteins usually fried to order as soon as you order it. Served with a sauce over top all of it or on the side. Tendon Kohaku has a variety different bowls that can satisfy everyone's craving. I had ordered the Anago Tendon ($22.95) which includes; eel, prawns, chicken, French beans, shiitake mushroom, lotus root and a soft boiled egg all over a bed of rice. You can choose regular or spicy. It also comes with miso soup which was nice way to start the meal. As well as pickled ginger to refresh the pallet. The Anago Tendon was filling and great for sharing. If you or someone in your party isn't feel like tempura, no worries. They have Kaisen don (seafood on rice). It looks like poke to me, but don't take my word on it. They're also have a lunch special from Monday - Friday between 11:30AM - 2:30PM. They have a couple options like the Ebi Tendon for $14.95. Or the Ebi Udon $15.95. Saving you a couple bucks. The wait staff are great and attentive and the esthetic of the restaurant is so pretty. Felt just like the first time I experienced this in Nara, Japan. Do give them a try. It helps that there's free parking.

Tendon Kohaku, located inside of Madison Square, was on the recommendation list from of Airbnb host and it is definitely a great choice. The restaurant is very chic with simple yet classy decors. The most interesting decors was the barley/wheat dangling from the ceiling. The ambiance is very serene. The background music is very therapeutic in a calming manner. The service is fast. The server is very friendly and understanding with our group's hangry manner. The menu is clean, simple, and very straightforward with nice pictures. The foods are very appealing. The tempura was crispy but not over oily. The seasoning is very flavorful

I have been visiting this location a few times and find that they are consistent with food quality and service The tempura is crispy every time and the rice is perfect My go-to has to be the Kohaku with rice and chawanmushi combo. The chawanmushi is flavorful and smooth. I really enjoy the different elements in this bowl, the crispy chicken, mushroom and squid are my favorites! I also like the spicy sauce on the side. It's nice that the non spicy soy sauce is available on each table so it allows diners to adjust the spice level of their dish. The iced milk tea is not too strong tasting but really helps mellow the spicy sauce and hot crispy tempura Don't forget to get the ice cream cone for dessert. This is a must try! I would come back and try their chicken wings!

Japanese restaurant in the Brentwood area serving tendon (tempura rice bowl). Clean modern interior, mid-small interior space. Went on a weeknight and didn't have to wait for a table, but the place did fill up a little later. Menu is pretty small and mostly consists of different tempura items on a rice bowl. I got the Kohaku Tendon that has two prawns, one chicken and one squid pieces, and some tempura veggies and one soft fried egg. It also comes with a bowl of miso soup. Portion is not that big, which is the usual case for Japanese food. All of the tempura is fried well in light batter, and soft fried egg yolk provides a nice sauce for the rice. I liked the taste. Also go their melon milk for a drink, and it tasted the liquid version of the melon ice cream bars you can buy from Asian supermarkets, which I liked.

My friends in Asia have been raving over Tendon Kohaku for a long time and it is finally here, in Canada. This location is definitely much more convenient as it has free parking in Madison Center itself. It is also a short walk from Brentwood station. I have tried the sashimi aimori tendon and Kohaku tendon. Of the two, I prefer the Kohaku tendon. I found the sashimi a bit fishy and it was only served with wasabi, no soy sauce. I did not ask if they have soy sauce. The fried items were very good. Tasty. The chicken breast was surprisingly moist and tender. None of the food got dried out from the frying. They were not oily either. The fried egg was good even though it broke when I tried to put it on the spoon. Thank you to Yelper Tom W for the tip -- get spicy sauce on the side. I did this and the spicy sauce was a bit spicy for me. Good thing I did not have it drizzled over the food. Regular sauce is yummy on the food and rice. Service was great. I had to rush off on my first visit and so canceled my dessert. The staff was able to get the tendon out in time for me. The dessert was also cheerfully canceled. I finally got to try the strawberry cheesecake on my subsequent visit. No regrets. It was so light and fluffy, like a soufflé. I would order this again. The pink shovel as a spoon was cute too. This is a place I will visit when I want a tempura meal.

Came here for Dineout Vancouver 2022. The menu included a choice between the original Kohaku Tendon bowl or the Ebi one. We opted for the Kohaku Tendon and it came with pickled ginger and a miso soup. The Dineout menu also comes with a lemonade and an ice cream. We ordered a chawanmushi extra on the side (it was nice--smooth and had chunks of seafood in it. For $4 ish, not bad at The rice bowl is quite good! The spicy kohaku tendon sauce is savoury sweet and so perfect with the battered foods. You also get a huge variety of different foods in that bowl. There was even a deep fried battered soft boiled egg! The lemonade was pretty standard-- not amazing but was a nice refreshing part to the meal. The matcha ice cream was super creamy and came in a cone on a stand. Quite a steal for $25 (per person) overall!

My sister and I came here for dinner. We had to put down our name, phone no and number of people on their computer. It was sent a message to us once there was a table. We waited for 25 mins. But it was good that there was Winners in the same complex that we could shop and wait for a table; otherwise we would have to just stand outside the restaurant and wait. We were seated at a bar top table. It was fine as long as we could order food and eat properly. My sister and I ordered a seafood tendon and Kohaku tendon. I added chawanmushi as I love it so much. The portion of chawanmushi was okay. It tastes good. They put a couple of pieces of chicken and a small piece of shrimp. One thing they could improve was the quality of the chicken. The meat texture was very soft and mushy. They could have used better quality of meat. Other than the chawanmushi we were satisfied with the tempura along with rice, miso soup and ginger. The rice and tempera had some special soy sauce that it tasted delicious. The price was reasonable as each dish included 8 or 9 items plus soup and ginger as a set meal. Always eat this fresh. If ordering it as a takeout, the tempera won't be as crispy and fresh. Good thing to dine here is that we can find parking at the Madison building. The parking lot is covered and it has more underground parking. The parking lot is connected with the mall, so even though it was pouring outside, we could just park and walk into the building.

    Sashimi tempura
    Evan C.

This place has lots to like. Atmosphere - beautiful. Enough space between tables for COVID, plenty of space if not busy. Service - food came really quick and wait staff was very courteous. Food: The tempura was very very light but crispy. It's almost like fluffy. No oil taste. The shrimp/Ebi in the tempura was heavenly. Very smooth texture and very succulent. The other tempura - squid, seaweed, veggies - were similarly light yet crispy. Done very well. The chawanmushi is out of this world good and smooth. The only negatives: - I dunno if I'd get the sashimi option again. The pieces were really small, although it's not much more ($1?) than the other options. - the Hokkaido milk tea is more gimmicky than anything special. The hot tea you get with your meal is just as good. Would come back.

The highlight for me was the black truffle dynamite roll, it's taste was perfect. The right amount of truffle used and not over powering like I've had at so many other venues. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted. It was smokey, earthy and tasted wonderful. The miso cheese eggplant was delicious, slightly salty from the miso and wonderfully roasted soft eggplant. The fish colar in broth was light and delicate, beautiful flavor and texture. Chawanmushi was soft and delicate, excellently flavored. The omakase which had fish from Japan was delicious, super fresh and masterfully prepared! The tempura came with a green tea seasalt which was different but very nice. For dessert we had the green tea tiramisu which was very tasty. The restaurant itself is small but cozy and wonderfully decorated. My wife and I had a wonderful meal and I would go back for special occasions.

The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening.
