Kalaveras - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Simi Valley, California

Horrible absolutely horrible, horrible food, tourist trap, native LA people don't come here. these tacos are werid, very sketchy meat, threw it up. The service was something, but people are always nice read more

Literally gross.... We came for dinner and started with appetizers...(wings & nachos) which were basically inedible. The wings tasted frozen like they were just defrosted and thrown on a plate with some sauce... so gross. Don't get me started on the nachos that literally had NO cheese. It looked like a pile of nachos that just got run over and someone plated it and gave it to us. The manager was the worst part about this place. She was so unprofessional and rude, literally no customer service whatsoever!! She took no accountability and told us that we didn't know good food and we were the only ones who have complained. Who the heck talks like that?? We didn't even end up ordering dinner because we were so mortified. Paid for those sorry appetizers and ran the hell out of there. So disgusting all around will never return and will be telling everyone how awful it was. read more

Sunday brunch. We showed up first timers and were seated. We were not told it was a buffet only. We were not told how much the buffet was, it's on us in part for not asking. Nowhere was the price advertised. Turns out it was $50 per person!!! That's a high quality sit down meal. So what if the mimosas are free. Am I out of touch with current price trends? I will give them credit for good quality food and good service. My beef is with the high price and not being informed upon arrival....no notice anywhere at the restaurant read more

I love the atmosphere here and Edgar the manager is awesome. We will be definitely coming back for Happy hour. Staff is attentive and fast service. Thanks Edgar read more

A good time if you are with the right guests. I would suspect target audience is 20-35. I came here on a Friday night with my teenaged daughter and I had a couple of observations. 1). Be ready for a loud fiesta. It is literally a party in there. Very Loud music, videos, but too loud to have a conversation. 2) music videos can be offensive if you are dining with your teenaged daughter. Mostly Latin Reggaeton and gangsta rap. Tons of bootie shaking videos and drug/gangsta themes. I wasn't prepared for that. 3). Drinks were week. Taste like they blend 5 gallon buckets of margaritas and dispense from that. Wasn't fresh. 4). Great party atmosphere if that is what you are after. 5) food was pretty good. 7/10. Anyway. Was not the right place or atmosphere for me at that time. Now I know. read more

Fun but loud, cool atmosphere but only ok food. Sub-par service. We had to go to the bar to get our water, ask more than once for chips at the table, and half our orders came out wrong. The kitchen, servers and bussing staff are not listening to one another and seem to lump up to try to make sense of what's going on instead of talking to their guests. I give this place less than 1 year before Simi kills yet another newly opened restaurant. Ah well. read more

The food is bland very under seasoned. The guacamole was 13$ and was not worth 5$ .... Um my stomach was upset the rest of the evening. Service was ok but I did feel rushed when they wanted to start removing plates off my stable that still had food . Cool ambiance but nothing espectacular. Wouldn't go back any time soon . read more

We just finished having dinner here. The food was luke warm when brought to the table. It is more a night club environment than a date night location. It took asking twice for a second basket of chips, that were stale when they were finally delivered. The prices are way too high for the quality of luke warm food that was served. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

2nd time coming on Sunday for brunch to eat food with bottomless mimosas , which was great up until the waiters and waitress come around hyped up going to different tables saying shots, shots, shots , shots like if they were giving them tequila shots away for free to their customers. Well let me tell you they don't tell you it's $15.00 per shot at the time for you to say yes or no. So when I seen my waitress and those shots to my bill I was oh Hell No!!! They are scamming people with not telling them up front they cost $15 each. I was pretty upset when they did that to me and my guest. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. I am also a business owner and do not like how they can do that to their paying customers. So people please be aware of what they may offer you it's not free!!! Ruined my whole dining experience and also my date. And to the management sham on you! read more

Dinner, drinks and service was great. Our server Olivia did an amazing job, she recognized we were celebrating a birthday and had her entire team come out to do a birthday shoutout, we loved it. read more

If you enjoy the nightclub scene while eating this is your place. The music is so loud it offends your senses. No variety in music same regatón beat for the two and half hours (my ears were ringing) I was hoping for some rachearas at least, cumbia, or Selena. Very disappointed. Latin music has variety. I had a sugary cocktail with no depth or balance, tasted like pure lemon juice with a simple syrup that they boiled with hibiscus flower. The food was not exceptional but Instagram worthy. Green salsa bland. Habanero salsa bland. Rice/beans no flavor. This place needs work, all hype. Pricy but not exceptional. read more

The food is pretty good. However, we can't go back. We've been there three times, and the music is SO loud that ruins the experience. We can't even hear each other at the table. read more

Were from the Yay Area.. came down to do the Socal thing.. Universal...tacos... tu saves. So we came up on this spot and they have several locations. Went to the valley location with the fam. Well we hit the jackpot! The service is excellent, very attentive ,0 attitude. So we thought man is this one of those places where staff is nice cause food no bueno. Wrong I was! Food was delicious! Everything we got was amazing! We had the carne asada plate, birria taco plate and guacMole. They bring out fresh chips and salsa. Drinks are strong and tasty. We also had this churro cake and the apple chimichanga i think its called. Delirious!!! Man i tell you this place is deff worth a try. It can get very festive here.. not a quiet, secluded place. Its jumpin! The shrimp dance on your plate.... Theyre so happy cause they taste yummy yummy in my tummy lol The manager was extremely nice and checked on us make sure food was ok... very nice of him. Well were going to have our last meal before heading back here again. I hope its consistent.. will update. read more

Food was great! Service was terrible. We arrived at 5:30 on a Thursday. Very few costumers at that point. No one came to get an order until I asked the host. Very slow to get drinks. Had to ask for chips and salsa 2x. Saw servers standing around while we had empty drinks. We will not return. read more

Food was awful in comparison to other options here in Simi. The guacamole seemed store bought and disgusting. Everything is way overpriced and the margaritas come in a tiny glass for the price. When will Simi get better restaurants? read more

Went for the Sunday brunch buffet. Holy cow, they had a huge variety of food. You would have to go there several times to taste everything. Last time I reviewed Urbana Kalaveras I was very impressed with the service, food and obvious "FUN" vibe at this place. So, this time it was a large party of us for a post artist event and the service was fast a great with the exception that it was loud and the server could not speak loud enough and the guests could not hear what plates the server had? So, one of the Abondagas soups did not arrive and a slight mix up on credit card charges. I tried different items: a Whiskey drink called Kopa de Frida that was better than expected and empanadas in three different ways. They were all great! The main dish was Barbacoa that was very tender and flavorful. My wife had the Ceviche again and it was just as good as last time. I again would definitely pick this spot for a birthday (Several were celebrated each time I have been), and any other party atmosphere desired. This is NOT the place for older folks that want peace and quiet! Prices are fair although one of my friends that doesn't dine often thought $13 for a drink was too expensive! Reality check! Have fun...this place is a party! read more

Service is very slow and food is meh. For a Mexican food place, all theirs salsas are trash.

Jair was the best. He was on top of everything and we all enjoyed his humor. The food was excellent and the drinks where right on. We were there for birthday celebration which we were treated to the great birthday wishes which involved sparklers. We will go again. Thanks to the whole staff for a fun time. read more

I went for cinco de Mayo / 5th of may and I've been busy to write this but Our service was great the servers were all nice but what ruined everything was the manger or owner whatever he is I should of checked his name Were their having a good time spending money and he rushed us out like we were nothing he kept trying to rush us out because other people were waiting to be seated We spent about 200 dollars in such a short time just to be kicked out He snatched the check from our hand in a very rude way and I hope our server received our tip but I think he took that as well I'll never go back again due to his poor manners I wish I could give this even half a star or less Also keep in mind when your order food they don't tell you side of rice or beans is 5-8 dollars extra kinda dumb when it shows it's all together in the menu They should let the people know that Not a big thing but just want people to know read more

The food tastes great. The service is great. O stall ambiance... A little too dark and the music a tad too loud. I ordered albondigas to go, R U KIDDING ME! $12. The amount was equal that of a regular sized can of soup, one serving. $12!!! read more

Good food, good drinks. I think it used to be an Islands and I still got the feel of that inside.

Not impressed with the service. My girlfriends wanted to try this place. I told them let's not go there bad service, but we still did. When we got in and ordered our drinks we ask for water. We all ordered our food and we asked for water again. Drinks came and we asked for water. NO water ever came ! We all got the bowls, they got the vegetable bowls, and I added chicken to mine. They came and it was a salad with rice. No dressing at all. I had to ask a server that was just walking by I told him that we have been asking for water and this is the 4 th time. He came right away with the water. I also asked home for dressing. He got that right away. Music is way to loud and servers keeped on bring us food that did not belong to us. This happened 4 time. We where not the only tables that was getting the wrong food. My girlfriend where not impressed. read more

First and last time eating here! The food was alright. It was hot and quick to be brought to the table. Make sure if you order any adult beverages you order at happy hour. That way after you have 4, it will cost you a little more than 2 at standard price. After 4 happy hour cocktails, you may have consumed about the equivalent of a cocktail at any other eatery. The big kicker, we are sitting with our 2 younger kiddos, a 7 year old and a 9 year old, when the place goes silent. Then, the music comes back on about 4 times louder making it impossible to hear anything but what was being played! The lyrics, which kept repeating at an alarming rate, put your f#ck, put your f#ck, put your f#cking hands up!, It just kept going over and over again as they did their little birthday dance for a party that had a young teenage girl celebrating. Needless to say we asked for the check and left. Only to get out the door and have my 7 year old son start repeating what he heard. Then asking why that was the only thing they kept saying in that song. I know we cannot prevent kiddos from hearing or saying things like that. It is nice to go to dinner and not have to worry about what may be played if someone has a birthday or event. Best part about the experience, the manager tried to tell us the song was saying "shots" in place of the inappropriate word and that they would never play music like that. He also had young kids and would not want them listening to something like that! Funny! I may not have written a review if he hadn't made an attempt to cover up what had happened. Instead he tried to say we misheard the music and didn't fully grasp what was really being said. If you don't have anyone young with you, the food isn't bad, the drinks are more like lime pop than adult cocktails and the wait staff is good. You may have a better experience and a more enjoyable time! read more

Was here late Saturday 3/11 for a bday celebration. Music selection was good but does it really need to be that loud? probably not. Food was pretty good but definitely over priced for the amount provided especially knowing this place is making their nut on alcohol for sure. Food came out very fast which only leads me to believe more people are getting wasted rather than eating. Lol.. I'd only revisit if they offered some type of happy hour deals. read more

Been here four times now and I love it! I appreciate that happy hour is at a reasonable time, 3-7pm, and the specials cover the entire restaurant. I hate when places do HH in the bar only So far the only things I haven't liked are water refills and the empanadas. Empanadas were spicy for no reason. Water, I have to ask my waiter. Which is expected but it sucks when others walk by will and see the empty glass and keep walking or pick up plates see the glass or I ask and they say, let me get your waiter. Ambiance, I noticed the music was turned down a bit, I can talk, listen to the music, do a little dance and not have to yell. Overall, great place! read more

Loved the new Kalaveras in Simi! Fun vibe and atmosphere with friendly staff. Chips and salsa were great. With good margs. . Made it in for happy hour accidentally and margaritas were $5 off and there were discounts on tacos as well. Our server Kevin was amazing super accommodating with great recommendations! Per his rec we tried the ceviche and the guac which is served with pork rinds. Loved both! For my entree I tried the steak Loma saltado served with really good tortillas, it was super tasty and satisfying on a cold rainy day. My husband tried the queso birria tacos which he really liked, my mom had the carnitas, and my son had a wet burrito! Everyone loved! This place was great from start to finish, much thanks to our waiter Kevin!! read more
