The brunch is boo-boo if you don't drink alcohol. Brunch for $40 per person is steep. Especially for the bland food they were serving. The food was just not good. We really struggled to find good food at the buffet. And we tried basically everything, that they had. Some of the trays were empty though. The brunch includes bottomless mimosas or micheladas. That would make it worth it, I guess. Drinks are expensive. But my partner is in an alcoholic in recovery, and I am sober to support him. So, we both don't drink alcohol. The food was not worth the price for the buffet. I could go by each item and tell you why it all sucked, but I'll save you the time. It all was mediocre. Go to El Torito if you want a good buffet breakfast. Come here for the brunch buffet, if you want the bottomless mimosas and micheladas. My partner didn't like the vibe of this place at all. The obnoxiously loud music, bright lights and night club/ bar feel. He didn't like it at all. I get it. It's not for everyone. I do like the day of the dead decor though. read more

Started off on a bad note, did take about 5 mins to even get a server to our table. But finally Victoria introduced herself and really made up for it with her service! We though the food was great. Hands down one of the best pastors I've had. I was a bit disappointed that Taco Tuesday rule wasnt explained to us until the bill came. We saw the promo and had no fine print regarding that this didnt apply to the tacos in the menu (thats super misleading by the way). We came here to dine on a budget and ended up spending more than $60. The server was nice but she made it seem like we were supposed to know what taco Tuesday meant in this restaurant. Tried a new (old established) Mexican restaurant ~ and glad we did. Food 4/5: We ordered birrio queso crispy/dorado tacos, carnitas soft tacos, rice and beans. The tacos come 3 to an order and were both very good. *The meat quality was very good. Their yellow salsa was spicy with a hint of mango. I can't put my finger on it, but the beans were odd. A little too salty, yet bland, and too thin ~ seemed watered down. And though the rice had a little bit of vegetables in it, it was very bland too. Service 4/5: Not quite as attentive as I would have liked; though knowledgeable, efficient, quick, accommodating, and reasonably friendly. Ambience 3-4/5: Kalavera's is a lively, active, colorful restaurant, and bar. I asked the waitress if they move tables away and create a dancing floor in the evening, because that's what it seemed like. She said that it's a family restaurant and that sometimes people dance near their tables, but they don't turn it into a full-blown bar. We had a big lovely booth and I was fine, but do note that it's definitely not a quiet place. Rate at 3.5, but will have to choose ~ so 3 for now. Wanted Mexican food, so found this place not too far from our place. We've driven by many times, but I never really paid attention. Took 3 grandkids, one for his Birthday. We made reservations and I requested a both. Our server Amy was great, but then after a while we did to see her. Others helped up with more drinks etc. Turns out she was on break. Usually the server tells us, hey we are taking our break. My husband and I had the carnitas dinner, very good, a little different than most Mexican restaurants. Came with pork rind, which I do not care for. I have leftovers my husband does not. My 17 year old had the Quesadilla Birria tacos plus rice and bean,s she ate it all. Other granddaughter had the child's quesadilla, leftovers. My grandson had the Kassie burrito and he had leftovers. My grandson received ice cream, whip cream and a churro for his BD desert. Oh I had a Cadillac Margarita, it was a little different but good. They have lots of Tequila drinks to choose from. It was $16 a little high, but all the kids drinks were veery reasonable. In the area on a Saturday evening and decided to check out this Kalveras. I normally go to the one in Bellflower. This location is definitely bigger and well run! They offer free valet but I was allowed to park my own car. We were seated immediately. The ambiance was lively and inviting, perfect for a casual night out with friends. Music is loud but it was expected. Server was very nice and attentive. We ordered their chaymoda margarita (the only margarita I ordered) and it did not disappoint! The balance of tequila, lime, and sweetness was spot on! As my friend and I were conversing, I saw a table order shots which they lit the board at the table. I inquired about the shots and was informed it was not on the menu. Since when did Kalveras have a secret menu?! Welp, we ordered their watermelon candy shots (have several flavors at $10 per shot) which were good. I love the candy they put on top. Was feeling nostalgic because it reminded me of my middle school days. Food was good. I ordered carna asada tacos a la carte and my friend ordered steak and shrimp fajitas. Tacos and fajitas were bursting with flavor, with fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned meats. We devoured our food! Long story short, drinks arrived within minutes, food arrived within 10 minutes, and the bill arrived within minutes when we asked for it. Very fast and efficient with everything. Happy hour is amazing! Greatly priced and served pretty decently in a timely manner. You are greeted by the host upon coming in and then seated. The staff are always joyful and very professional! They are knowledgable of their items on the menu and answer all of our questions. The establishment inside is nicely decorated and always has great Latin beats playing. Kavaleras is a trendy and tasty spot. I went here for a quick lunch during a workday. It was quick, yummy, and had a cool ambience. The interior looks really cool with bright lights, music, and cool "graffiti" style artwork. The portions are good sizes and very good. Would recommend the wet burrito (with green sauce) or the enchiladas suizas. You can tell the meats and ingredients are high quality here as it definitely a step up from other Mexican food chains. I'd imagine it's more of a bar/going out scene during the evening given the bright lights and music so something to keep in mind if you're into that or not. read more
