    Alex M. ..

Kind of bougie upscale Mexican that's more common these days. Service was really good especially before and after a Mexico World Cup game. Dishes were all fine, nothing spectacular but at that high of a price point it just didn't seem worth it. - Shrimp tacos: tender shrimp and very nicely assembled. Best thing all night - Guacamole: Solid and a decent portion. - Esquite: very bland and had almost no cotija on top. Really disappointing especially since it's $17. You'd expect a premier appetizer. Willing to give one more shot since the service was good and the tacos actually hit.

Lots of trash on the patio ground.

It was an interesting experience at Perla Mexican Cuisine from the moment we arrived. We got there at lunch time on a Sunday and stood at the host booth. There was a waitress there but she didn't acknowledge us, and eventually she walked away. 4-5 waiters kept walking by us as we stood there and we felt pretty foolish. The thought crossed my mind "if they keep ignoring us, we'll just find somewhere else to eat.." It was about 5 more minutes of standing there before the original lady came back and said "Okay, sorry for the wait, did you have a reservation?" We ended up sitting outside on the patio since it was a beautiful day. It was nice and shady, but the patio was really dirty, there was crumpled trash and litter I assume from brunch all over the ground. I snapped a photo and attached. My fiancé ordered the Hibiscus Margarita and she said it was tasty. They didn't, however give us any napkins with our drinks. We figured they would come with our food when it was brought out. Unfortunately, when the food arrived we still had to place settings, utensils or napkins. If you see our photos, it's just food with no napkins or settings at all. We had to wait for the waiter to return and ask for utensils so we could eat our food. A bit disappointing.. Once we were able to eat however I was very happy with the enchiladas. Their chicken was delicious and the sauce was really wonderful. The sauce all around the plate was excellent and they were very generous with the cheese. I did find myself wishing there was some rice and beans to go along with the enchiladas and for the price point, I think you might expect it, but what can you do? The ceviche didn't have as much lime, not very tangy at all, at least not what we're used to, and we have lots of Mexican ceviche. This ceviche was more peppery, and heavy on the seasoning, was it Masala? Not sure but it reminded us more of Indian food. Not saying it was bad, just wasn't what we were expecting. Again, the service was lacking throughout the meal and that continued until the end. Our regular server took so long to return, we had to ask a different server for our check. She went and got our regular server who brought our check. I don't know if there was a party or something going on, but it looked like most of the servers were preoccupied talking and hanging out inside the main restaurant area, whether that was with clients or each other, I have no clue. We probably won't be back, to be honest.

This place has a great ambiance. The waitress was very nice and helpful they have great lunch specials.l that are $12.99 My margarita was $17 which to me is a bit expensive for a small restaurant. Also the 3 filet mignon tacos are $32. That seems really expensive!!! My chimichanga was very good. The margarita was good but nothing special.

Food is great here, I've tried both Mole and Suizas enchiladas. Perla Palmoa was made perfectly Bartender was very welcoming and nice. It was our first spot we tried after we moved downtown and he recommend alot of places to also checkout around Santa Ana to explore and eat. Will definitely be back for more food and cocktails to try!

Honestly , one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in OC, the service is phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Our server Karina was amazing and made some fantastic recommendations. I got the short rib tacos and they were so tender and juicy and cheesy, paired with the Guavandia Margita. Everything with so fresh with high quality ingredients. Me and my boyfriend will definitely be back!!!

This is a lovely place nestled in downtown Santa Ana. The staff is wonderful and attentive. They were also great at giving recommendations. We ended up getting queso fundido, seasoned fries, flautas, and mango ceviche. Queso Fundido- The melted oaxaca cheese was light and creamy. The chorizo was savory and incorporated into the dish beautifully. Seasoned Fries- These were served piping hot and perfectly crispy. The seasoning is flavorful. Flautas- The tortilla had a wonderful crisp and the beef filling was juicy and perfectly seasoned. Served with a nice, smoky salsa. Mango Ceviche- This was a delightful citrusy dish! The mango was the right amount of ripeness and the shrimp was fresh. Served with crispy tortillas.

Perla Mexican Cuisine Receives positive reviews for its food, service, and atmosphere. It is a women-owned and family-operated Mexican restaurant located in a historic district. I like their steak tacos, appetizers and street corn.

    Enchiladas Michoacanas

I came here during brunch hours and had the enchiladas Michoacanas and they were delicious. The service was great. Our server Vanessa was very friendly and attentive. I want to come back and try more plates on the menu!

It is the perfect spot for a date night out, especially in the summer. We ordered carne crudo, castacan, cochinita pibil, and beignets for dessert. For a drink I got a pineapple tamarind agua fresca that was a perfect combination. I really enjoyed everything we ate here. 3 dishes was enough to feed 2. The standout was the cochinita pibil. I do wish we got a little variety and picked a different dish instead of getting 2 pork dishes but both the cochnita pibil and castacan were highly recommended by a friend. The beignets and the dipping sauces were delicious . The dough was so fluffy. The service was great and we sat right next to the kitchen. The atmosphere is beautiful, it feels like you're dining in a cozy house/patio. Our server was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Guava Brava - Such a refreshing and delicious cocktail. I would definitely order this again. Almejas al Vapor Picantes - The avocado clam sauce was incredible, especially paired with the focaccia bread for dipping. Pulpo al Guajillo - One of my favorite dishes of the night. Perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Empanadas - Really good! We all loved these. Salbute Pato Ahumado - Tasty, but it wasn't one of my favorites compared to the other dishes. Poc Chuc - I'd probably skip this next time. The flavor was good, but the meat wasn't as tender as I expected and was a bit tough to chew. Beignets - So delicious! They come with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces, and they were the perfect way to end the meal. Our server even brought us a side of vanilla ice cream to enjoy with them, which turned out to be an amazing combination. Overall, we had a wonderful birthday dinner here. My friends and I had plans to go to ZAMA and found out it was closed so we had to find a new place…read more We ended up here just based off the pictures. Let's start with the margarita I got, I did not taste any alcohol in it (and I cannot have strong drinks! So that can tell you a lot) not worth $18. We basically paid for an expensive agua fresca! Then I ordered the carne asada skewers. The first bite was okay, not very flavorful, but I thought I could just finish it. As I go through the meat, I notice so much fat and very little meat. I grab another piece and bite into it, I start chewing and realize that it tasted like raw meat (with a hint taste of raw meat that spent too much time in the fridge) I immediately got nauseous and spit it out on a napkin. I told our server and he asked me what else I would like. I then ordered the fish tacos, he brought it out in less than 5 minutes (kind of fast if you ask me) I try a small piece of the fish and it wasn't bad, I give a piece to my friend and she only got fat. Why is there fat in my fish tacos! I tried to pick through it so I could atleast get full, but I couldn't do it. The server came to pick up our plates and asked me if I didn't like the tacos, I said no but that's okay don't worry about it. I was so disappointed because I was starving. My friend ordered the rib eye tacos and had to pick through it too because most of it was fat. The only good thing that happened was that our server did not charge me for the two plates that I didn't eat. We thanked him, paid the check and left. Unfortunately, this was not the best food and we were excited to eat and celebrate my birthday.

Both were good but we both preferred the white. Queso fundido was good but didn't come with chips so we ordered chips and salsa. Mole tostadidas were delightful, full of flavor. Esquites: the bomb. Super flavorful and we cleaned the plate. Churrosnwere good, but the dipping sauces left something to be desired. A little runny and preferred the hot churro on its own. The cons: the only thing that was a little disappointing was the fact that they served us the end of a bag of chips. While the chips were fine, it was surprising that at a michelin star restaurant they didn't serve homemade chips. Worse still, we got the tail end of the bag of chips. In my opinion, the restaurant should just be called "Gabbi's Kitchen," because that would be more appropriate. This is the type of "Mexican" restaurant that Mexicans don't actually go to. Basic concepts and dishes that are either done incorrectly or have way too much going on. We ordered the Al Pastor Gordita, and it was easily the worst gordita I've ever had. The meat wasn't traditionally seasoned the way you'd expect al pastor to be, which could be fine, except it was overwhelmed by the taste of either cinnamon, allspice, or some other seasoning I couldn't identify. It was distracting and unpleasant. Then there was an overwhelming amount of pineapple. There shouldn't even be pineapple in a gordita, but if there is, it shouldn't be the main ingredient. Instead of lettuce, there were one or two spinach leaves, and no beans. We also ordered the Arrachera, which was basically carne asada on corn and nopal. This was the most expensive dish, yet while the cheaper dishes came with sides, this was mainly just a piece of meat on a small mountain of corn. No beans, rice, or salsa. I asked for salsa and received an overly sweet, somehow-not-spicy habanero salsa that they charged $4 for. And if you're used to going to literally any authentic Mexican restaurant and getting complimentary chips and salsa, don't expect that here. They offer it to you like it's free, but it's not. I wanted to try something new, and the hostess at the front said the food was "really good" (not her fault), but unfortunately, it's just another Americanized Mexican restaurant that makes you regret not going to a place you already know and trust.
