We recently relocated from Garden Grove to the Santa Ana/Fountain Valley area and have been on the hunt for a Mexican restaurant to fill the void left by our beloved spot in Los Alamitos. Thanks to Restaurant Week, we stumbled upon this gem, and we are so grateful. The hospitality alone would earn five stars. But then came the food. The tacos? Absolutely exceptional. The steak was tender and flavorful in a way that reminded me of eating throughout Mexico, you could actually taste the meat. A light, gentle pickle of vegetables on top, minimal cheese, nothing heavy or greasy. These are not the American-style tacos drowning in a pound of melted cheese. These are the real thing. The beans were lovely, the rice was solid, and my passion fruit winearita drink was genuinely a treat. Restaurant Week gave us the perfect low-pressure reason to try somewhere new, and we walked out with a new favorite. We'll be back for lunch. We'll be back for dinner. With good atmosphere, good service, and OK to great food of mostly decent value, Casa Ramos is a good choice for Mexican type food in the Santa Ana area. We met our family friends closer to their house for a couple of reasons: for them to advise us on possible flooring choices for our kitchen remodel, but mainly to see our daughter while she was in town for a quick visit. We didn't want the visit to end after Floor and Decor, so decided to find a nearby restaurant to hang out. None of us were particularly hungry since all of us had lunch and it was too early for dinner..but the name of this restaurant resonated with us, and with the good reviews, convinced everyone to come. They have a dedicated small parking lot and both cars were able to find spots on a mid-Sunday afternoon. We were greeted warmly and they put together two tables for our party of six. Complementary chips and a good, thin salsa were provided (they kept on replenishing it by request). The chips were freshly fried and delicious. Two wineariatas (mangonada and maracuya=passionfruit) were ordered ($9.36 each) over the rocks and enjoyed. I got a horchata ($4.68) which was refreshing. Mom got a Coke, which ended up being a regular size Mexican Coke in a bottle ($5.20 ... enough for two glasses). We tried to do a lot of sharing: 3 dip sample ($14.56) - guacamole, queso suave, chorizo bean dip. Continued to use the fresh complementary chips. Each dip was really good, would definitely have no problem bringing this to any party needing finger foods. Casa platter ($21.84 for small portions of buffalo wings, nachos, cheese quesadilla, and taquitos) - solid Pork Belly Tacos ($18.72) - 3 street size tacos, each with a slice of deep fried pork belly. This is what they are known for. My daughter really liked it; I thought my meat was way over-fried resulting in some very hard and dry bites. Shrimp Tacos ($19.76) - 3 street size tacos, with small amount of shrimps topped beautifully. The taste was good, just wish there was more meat. The two taco platters came with a very good rendition of Mexican rice, OK frijoles de la oila. The various toppings (crema, salsa, guac) were obviously freshly made and chilled. We finished it off by sharing one fried ice cream ($10.40), covered in corn flakes with a good dense vanilla ice cream in the middle. It was just the right amount for the six of us to taste a sample, and have the ice cream lovers (with enough room in their stomach) to completely finish it. The inside dining area is really nice, with plenty of space between tables, and appropriate background music. Service was great throughout: friendly and attentive. There is either a 4% surcharge or a 3.8% discount (depending on how you look at it) for paying with cash vs credit card. Tax is 9.255% for Santa Ana. I got this food catered to my work. I had high expectations since the reviews are so good! Sadly it was just okay. The dressing on the salad was pretty good and the salad itself was fresh. I came here with my family for my mom's birthday and enjoyed it! I got the margarita flight to start and my girlfriend and I enjoyed all the flavors. The chips and salsa were amazing. We came during happy hour and they had really great deals for happy hour! We tried the taquitos on the happy hour menu which were delicious. We also got the pork belly tacos, but those were not my favorite. The pork belly had too much cartilage in it, and it sadly did not live up to my expectations. The service was great for having a few larger parties in the restaurant. Our server kept our water refilled and cleared any dishes promptly. The one downside would have to be their pork belly tacos. We were pretty excited about those, but the texture wasn't great. First and foremost, they are so very friendly and welcoming as soon as you walk in. We were greeted with such friendly smiles and welcoming voices. We were seated immediately and served chips and salsa. I was with my toddler and 2 friends. I loved that they noticed my toddler was interested in salsa and brought over an additional salsa that wasn't spicy. Our server was Lupita. She provided us with legendary service and went above and beyond in my opinion. She gave us great recommendations. The male server was amazing too! He brought over crackers when he noticed my toddler was impatient and that was so sweet! At the end Lupita brought us complimentary ice cream for my boy. I was like wow! So sweet! We stopped by for a family meal, the first week of May. It was a Sunday afternoon Cinco de Mayo, a little after 4pm. The restaurant was busy but we didn't have to wait to be seated. The staff was really friendly. They had a DJ playing, music was a little loud. I ordered my kiddos the bean burrito with cheese, they all really enjoyed it. My husband and I shared the sampler plate. It comes with a little of everything; quesadillas, bone in wings, small taquitos and nachos. The food was okay, there was no wow about it. The chips and salsa were really good! (Chips and salsa always hit). I asked the server if they could happy birthday to my sister it was her birthday that day! They brought her out a small dessert and sang her happy birthday! We had our baby shower here on Dec 7. For 4 hours, the entire restaurant was closed to the public and had about 85 people attended. The service the staff provided was phenomenal. Our friends and family enjoyed the food and kept asking how we found this restaurant. We had eaten at this restaurant previously and loved the food on their regular menu. We were able to bring in our own desserts for the dessert table -- cupcakes, cookies, and turon. For decorations, we didn't do much. My mom made succulent centerpieces. The restaurant had a black backdrop and we were able to add balloons and a rose gold decoration to it. The backdrop was placed on the stage and made it great to take pictures. There was also room to have some games. We did run across a concern with parking, but the owner quickly mitigated the situation. Initially, we were told our guests would have an area to park in the back within a gated area by a church. On the day of the shower, we found out that there was a small garage sell going on in a small area of the parking lot. The owner of the restaurant was gracious and stayed outside to redirect our guests for parking. Overall, my husband and I were extremely pleased with the outcome of the shower. The timing we booked was perfect, food was great, and any concerns that came up, the staff quickly presented solution to ease our minds. Okay. Can someone please tell me if they are paying for reviews?? Because this food was genuinely so painfully disappointing, and this is coming from someone who was starving after work and waited awhile to get my food (my order was ready for awhile but the waitress forgot to give it to me despite the fact that I was the only customer there) , and my hunger couldn't mask how mid this food was. I ordered the cheese enchilada plate and the mole enchilada plate w an horchata. When I tell you the portions were TINY. Maybe a couple tablespoons of rice , 4 tablespoons of beans and the smallest and driest looking enchiladas I've ever seen. The sauces are literally made out of CANNED sauce (I recognise it) and the beans tasted canned too. They didn't bother adding any flavour to any item. Each plate being $25 each too is actually ridiculous considering the lack of flavour and portion. The horchata ?? Powdered cheap horchata that they didn't even bother to anything in, no sugar, not even a single speck of cinnamon in there. Literally didn't taste like anything. I can't believe the reviews because yall are not being honest about this food. Had my family and I sitting in silence and shaking our heads in disbelief. Upon entering this tidy, family-run restaurant you're greeted by a canvas of well appointed black booths/tables/chairs, gray floors with a rainbow's worth of colorfully hand-cut farolitos. Truly a pleasure to dine in such a well kept, smartly attired venue!! The chips and dip were 5-stars! Medium spicy, piquant salsa that's super fresh, and the chips were thick and warm. Easy to vacuum, er, scarf down two bowls of each! Leti ordered one of her stand-bys- Chicken Fajitas. I went with a four item combo, choosing a pair of crispy tacos (one each of chicken machaca and beef barbacoa) and a duo of enchiladas, one each of cheese and the barbacoa. The chicken machaca was a real revelation!!! Across nearly thirty yrs of eating outstanding Mexican food with my gorgeous Michoacana wifey...and today was the first time I've ever seen machaca ever applied to a protein other than beef!! The tender but mildly crisp tendrils of dark meat chicken were exceptional. Pro tip- Don't ask for sour cream, lest you're fine with them charging you an extortionate $3.10 for 2 tbsp worth of the crema! I would've been fine with PAYING the fee...just was a little blindsided that my server didn't forewarn me, "Be glad to bring it to you but pls be advised that it's an extra $3." Pro tip #2- Do your best to leave room for dessert!! Casa Ramos features some impressive choices including Bunelitos and bread pudding. The service was very good...tho I did experience a little heartburn at the Ninja charge for my sour cream. The restrooms were probably the cleaning, most sparkling I've ever seen in a lifetime of eating out at least once weekly! Parking was a bit hard. Not many spots behind the restaurant. Not a big deal. There was parking on the street with a short walk. Our car wasn't bothered. You walk in the front door and there are plenty of tables and booths. Televisions were everywhere. It was Sunday and is had a few people but seating was more than ample. I ordered a three item combination plate. I did two cheese enchiladas and one chile relleno. The cheese enchiladas were in red sauce and the chile relleno had a slight kick to it. Almost too spicy for me lol I really liked the chips dipped in guacamole! The chips are so good! The rice and beans were just alright. I've had better rice and beans. My partner ordered the four item combination, and a steak quesadilla. He ordered two chile rellenos, one beef enchilada, and a taco. He enjoyed everything he ordered. 8/10 overall. Wow... What an incredible dining experience we had on Saturday night at Casa Ramos restaurant. We in Santa Ana for our son's 7v7 football tournament, and after the game, we did a Yelp search for the best Mexican restaurants in Santa Ana. Casa Ramos was on the the list, came so based upon the four and a half star ratings and wonderful pictures we decided to give it a try. All the food items that we had were stellar!! Everything was well seasoned, and all the flavors were distinct and bold! We tried to order as many different items as possible. That said, we had the chicken mole enchiladas the pork tamale, chicken enchiladas, chicken and potato taquitos, crispy chicken taco, chile relleno and barbacoa enchilada. My son and I kept raving about how tasty the chili relleno, barbacoa enchilada, and crispy chicken taco were. Although we were way too stuffed to eat anything else, we ultimately decided to try the bread pudding for dessert....so glad that we did! The bread pudding we shared was delicious and we completely devoured it!! What we also enjoyed as much as the food was the incredible service that we received!! We had an opportunity to meet the owner, Rudy, who was sooooo personable. He truly made us feel as though we were "VIP" customers, as we talked with him throughout the time that we were there. We also met his wife, Nancy, who was our server, and she was such a pleasure! Since this was our first time at Casa Ramos, she kindly gave us menu recommendations, and pleasantly fulfilled any service requests we made!! They were both so welcoming in a way that you rarely see nowadays when you go out to eat. We live about 30 miles away, and if it weren't for that, we would be regular customers. However, if we're ever in the area we will definitely go back!!
