I don't know how I've not been to this establishment sooner. I came today for brunch and it must've been my lucky day cause they partnered with Panecito who were giving away free roscas to the first 100 people. For brunch my foodie partner and I got a Paloma with Don Julio to start. Their chips and salsa were also top notch. For the main courses we got the chile divorciado and the chilaquiles adding al pastor with the eggs sunny side up. Both were so delicious. I like that their portions are perfectly sized. No excess amount of chips or rice/beans. Service from Alejandro was excellent which made the whole brunch experience that much better. The interior is small and dimly lit, but the acoustics are great so the Latin music that was playing is heard very well and kept the place lively. I'll definitely be back to try their lunch/dinner options.

March 16, 2025 | Late Night Sunday | Spicy Fish Tacos | De La Baja Fish Tacos | Absolutely delicious!!!

March 16, 2025 | Downtown Santa Ana: What a delicious find & festive place! After skating w/friends, I looked on Yelp for a nearby place for us to grab late night dinner & discovered Amor y Tequila! De La Baja Fish Tacos ($22): Yes, please! Easily goes on my list of some of the best fish tacos I've ever had, hearty too, hands down, absolutely delicious!! Also, though our amazing server warned that they were super spicy, no worries, I can definitely handle the heat, and I did while enjoying every single bite, with a smile! Haha! I took the other taco to go & happily enjoyed it for breakfast the next morning!! Customer Service: Top-of-the-line, attentive & then some! Also, thanks to our phenomenal server for helping me decide on what to order! You were absolutely correct!!! Parking lot: Across the street! Vibe: Incredibly upbeat & festive! Loved the fun music! In between every delicious bite of one of the tacos, I danced a little bit in my seat while talking to friends! Hahaha! There is no way I was staying still in such an upbeat atmosphere! Overall: This was my first time in Santa Ana, & Amor y Tequila alone will have me coming back for more whenever I'm in the area! My mouth was watering as I was writing the review! I may be going back sooner than later!! Thanks for an amazing experience!!

Came for a 7:15AM clasico and it was packed! Loved the look of the place and the attention to detail. Server made I sure I was always topped off and the food was delectable! Only downside is that my Madrid lost I would totally come back though! Hala Madrid y Nada Mas!!!!!

I had a small intimate rehearsal dinner with my family here. The drinks were amazing. Our server was awesome, and the food was delicious. I would definitely come here again just to eat and enjoy the vibes.

Quesadilla and Ceviche

So good:) I had the quesadilla and ceviche so bomb. The ribeye tacos were bomb too. Server super nice, good music not crowded which I hear is not the norm so maybe other times can be crowded.

Shrimp Tacos

Pretty strong drinks (also pretty overpriced), free chips & salsa and they play loud Spanish music so if that's the vibe then come here if you're in downtown Santa Ana. We got 2 specialty/flavored margaritas, ribeye tacos & shrimp tacos. I got the passion fruit margarita and it was okay. It was more sour/lime forward than passion fruit tasting to me. I wish I got more of the passion fruit flavor but it was strong. The shrimp tacos were a pretty big portion - they said this is one of their most popular items. It's fried shrimp with slaw, pico de gallo, pickled onions & chipotle sauce. They overdid the chipotle sauce a bit. The tacos were pretty good though but I wouldn't say they were worth the price tag they came with. The ribeye tacos came with beans and rice. The rice was a bit dry and the beans were okay. The ribeye was cooked well but the mushroom component was unnecessary and kind of threw it off. Overall, this place was decent but not worth what they're charging.

Watermelon margarita
Mari B.

The fried calamari was probably the best thing out of the night, I went for a watermelon margarita and it was too sweet (the girl even recommended it) ugh. The restroom only has one stall, I'm sure when it turns into a club there's a line for the restroom. We left around 10:30 when the DJ started playing really loud music. I mean the music is great but we wanted to walk and check out other bars. We went to vacation bar after this which was more of a chill, relaxed vibe ambiance and the drinks were way better here. Will come back to amor y tequila for brunch and have a taste of their brunch menu, maybe their bottomless mimosas will be good. Also, I'll definitely come back for the fried calamari because it was just that good.

Let me break it down: Drinks: They have one of the best tiki menus around, with really cool tiki mugs and some of the most well-balanced cocktails I've had. What I really appreciate is the consistency, every time we come in, our drinks taste just as good as the last time. Our favorites are the Zombie and the Singapore Sling. Food: I absolutely love the Spam Musubi and their fries. They're great bar bites whether you're actually hungry and need something substantial or just want a little snack to go with your drinks. The vibe: The bartenders are always super friendly, attentive, and genuinely seem like they're having a good time doing what they do. That makes a huge difference and really adds to the experience. The only knock I can think of is that I wish the music was a little louder and more upbeat. I know tiki bars are designed for conversation, and I appreciate that, but sometimes the quieter atmosphere can make you a little sleepy. Overall, Stowaway is our go-to tiki bar in OC. Great drinks, good food, awesome bartenders, and a fun atmosphere. We'll definitely keep coming back.

The shareable small bites were incredible--the Poke Bombs were indeed da bomb (pun intended), and the Tempura-battered Spam Musubi served with a sweet teriyaki-esque glaze and sriracha-mayo is an absolute must-order. Both items were so good that we ended up ordering them again. The drinks were great -- Three Dots and a Dash, Smoking Rita and the Lava Flow instantly transported me right back to Hawaii. Huge shoutout to Michelle and David for providing such warm, friendly, and attentive service. We will definitely be back!

Our server was friendly and knowledgeable and gave great advice about which dishes to order and whether each would be enough for four. Everything was excellent. In particular we enjoyed the pork belly, the seafood cocktail, and the chicken skewers. We also had the Little Gem salad, the sourdough, and the bone marrow onigiri. We all agreed: "Not a bad bite in the bunch." The cocktails were creative and the wine selection was good, too. Music was good. It wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk. After dinner, they brought a scoop of matcha ice cream with a candle in it for me and there was enough for all of us to have a bite or two. The only drawback was that from my seat, I could see into the kitchen hallway, which wasn't very attractive. They need a noren to block the view. Minor detail, though, and I suppose that would probably make it more difficult to bring food through. Highly recommend.

I ordered the Zombie, which was really good and came with a cool zombie hand. We also had a nice time talking with the bartenders. Unfortunately, the air conditioning wasn't working that night, and it was really hot inside. We sat in the corner at the bar, and one of the bartenders was nice enough to turn the fan on the bar toward us. I appreciated the effort, but at that point it was basically just moving warm air around. We also ordered French fries, but they never came. We asked about them and were told the kitchen might be backed up. After we finished our drinks, we were ready to leave because of the heat, so we asked about the fries again. They went to check, but there still wasn't an answer as to when they'd arrive, so we canceled the order. I don't want to be too hard on the place because the drinks were good, the bartenders were friendly, and the broken AC may have just been an unfortunate situation that night. We actually went to Twisted Tiki because Mission Control wasn't quite what we remembered, so I'm not sure I would make a special trip just for Twisted Tiki based on this visit. That said, we're fans of tiki bars, so if we're in the area again, we'll definitely give it another try. Hopefully the AC is working and the French fries make it to the table next time!

You will have to go through the main tikibar (Stowaway) and walk to a side door in the back. The theme is along the lines of Pinocchio. After you enter the side door, you will be transported and see a story book. You will walk through a whale's mouth to get to your booth. There is so much to look at all around so take your time admiring the decor while you drink. The tiki drinks are different from Stowaway and are delicious! It's definitely more intimate so you can talk to the bartenders. Though since it's all booths, you won't really see them make the drinks. You actually enter through the mouth of a whale, which immediately sets the tone. The decor and theming are really well done, with plenty of unique details that make the space feel immersive. The atmosphere is more intimate and private compared to the main tiki bar, which makes it a nice change of pace. The food menu is limited, but what we tried was good. The drinks were definitely the highlight. I had the Farewell Jimmy, Smoke the Monster Out, and Geppetto's Last Words--all three were great. Smooth, tropical, flavorful, and definitely potent. Service was okay, but nothing particularly stood out. Overall, The Belly of the Beast is a cool place to check out if you enjoy themed bars and unique experiences. For me, it's probably more of a one-time experience rather than somewhere I'd regularly return to. Still, the creativity, decor, and cocktails make it worth experiencing at least once.

Great Place, but the Vibe Has Changed…read more Oh my God, I used to love this place, and honestly, I still feel a connection to it, but it's definitely changed over the years. When I first came here, the vibe was different, and it had this underground Santa Ana subculture that I really enjoyed. The bar, which was run by Vanessa, felt like a underground haven--slightly rundown with the shoddiest restrooms, but it had that authentic, gritty charm. The pool tables were usually in decent shape, and the bar always had cool, unique brews, including microbrews. The place felt cozy despite being so small, and when it got packed, you were basically sardined into the whole space. They had an adjacent outdoor section that was rarely utilized, but you could tell it had potential. I've lived here for a long time, and I've always appreciated the diversity in Santa Ana. But this bar used to be about that punkish unique underground micro brew vibe culture(my opinion)--it was never overly focused on any one particular ethnicity. It felt like the space catered to a mix of people, but recently, I've noticed it's shifted. The atmosphere has leaned more toward a hyper-Mexican, Banda-style vibe. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about that, but it's definitely a change. In talking to locals, there's been a sense that just because you're from a certain country doesn't mean you want everything around you to be about that. As a Hispanic American, I get that--we don't always want the place we hang out to feel like it's only representing our cultural background. I'm not sure when this shift happened, but it's possible the pandemic played a role in it. Before that, the bar had more of a microbrew, underground beer culture, and now it feels like it's become part of the Santa Ana "Banda" norm. Whether it was the owner's vision or just the pressures of what sells, it's hard to say. But the place has definitely moved away from the punkish / alternative Santa Ana night scene and embraced something new. Now, if you're into Banda music, tacos, and a lot of Mexican-American influence, you'll love it. Again, no hate on that--just pointing out that it's not the underground, microbrew culture that originally drew people in. It's now a whole different vibe.

There used to be an area with around a dozen pinball machines, but that area was completely bare this time. A few of the other games weren't working either, including the air hockey and basketball games. I also noticed there wasn't a DJ that night. That may have been something that simply wasn't scheduled for that evening, so I'm not going to hold that against the place. I'm just mentioning what I experienced. I did get to play Galaga, which was fun, but I was hoping to play Centipede and it wasn't there that night. I ended up playing only two games before heading downstairs to the tiki bar. We were there on Sunday, October 3rd around 3pm. We asked who the owners were because we were really impressed with the place and thought they might be the same owners as another location we had visited. There was absolutely no bad intention behind the question. The male bartender told us that no one name drops anymore. I understood what he was saying and was more than willing to move on. But then I asked him if the bar offered whiskey sours and he responded, "You really don't know what you're doing here and what you want." I was honestly so taken back by that comment. I don't normally stay quiet when someone speaks to me disrespectfully, but I was so caught off guard that I didn't even know what to say. Before that, he had also yelled out to the host that she didn't need to worry because we didn't know the owners and that she could relax. The whole interaction was completely unnecessary and made us feel very uncomfortable. We came in wanting to enjoy the atmosphere and have a good time. Instead, we left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. There is a way to speak to customers, even if you feel they are asking questions you don't like. We did nothing to deserve that kind of attitude. The Blind Rabbit may be a great place, but unfortunately, the way we were treated by this bartender completely ruined the experience for us. Customer service matters, and unfortunately, ours was extremely disappointing.
