The better-half and I were looking for new flooring after we ran into some problems with the flooring that was already there and wanted to change out the old tile and have a more modern look to our place. After we went to some other places, we heard good things about Kahala Floors. We called and made an appointment to come down. This place is located on S. King Street and there is free parking in their private parking lot that they share with a couple of other businesses. As we entered and started walking up tue stairs, we noticed a very nice reception area where we were greeted by Shirley and another worker. Shirley started the process of if we knew what we were looking for, what kind of area we wanted to cover, etc. We told her we were looking for LVP. She took us through her showroom which looks like they have over a couple hundred different varieties of flooring and types of flooring from real hardwood, manufactured hardwood, all the way to LVP. She showed ius ones that they had in stock to ones we have to order. Shirley has been in the industry for around 18 years and her experience sure showed when we had questions to stairs and different transitions. Her recommendations made sense and she had different levels of solutions to doing certain things. I can't say enough of her professionalism and the quality of work from her workers. 5 star experience through and through. No job is top big or too small for them to handle. read more

It was presented by its President and CEO, Shirley Pai Hilton at its comfortable showroom on King Street in downtown Honolulu. She reviewed the vast variety of floorings that included wood, stone, tile, and carpeting. So comprehensive and informative! We enjoyed light refreshments, viewed a multitude of product samples and made an appointment for a free estimate at our home. I received many estimates on flooring for my condo, and chose Kahala floors because of the quality of the product, their Kahala engineered wood, the advice provided, and their professional and efficient communication. I am picky about installation and their workers were meticulous, not only in laying an even pattern on the floor, but also with the baseboards, and finishing. The homeowners association had to approve the product and company, and they were impressed at the price, as it was not much more than the base companies and big box stores and the quality was so much better. Wow. You better make sure you read the fine print, and make NO mistakes when you purchase from Kahala Floors. Bought a small 20 sq foot run of oak flooring from this company. Turns out it is the wrong size, 2 1/4 wide where our existing flooring is 2 1/2. We picked up the flooring from their warehouse. They sent us an invoice. Now they are charging us 30% of the order to return it. Almost $60! This was not a special order but an item they say they regularly stock. They knew I was ambivalent about purchasing because the sales person Jo-Lin refused to tell us what the length of the planks were, only that lengths "varied". She was pretty rude about it actually. But I couldn't find anyone else carrying oak flooring in town and needed to fill in a bare area of our existing 70 year old oak flooring. Well it didn't fit, and for some reason they feel entitled to collect $60 just for processing our return. Never heard of such a thing. Had to trade in some tile as well and the tile company assessed no such "processing" fee. $60 to type up an invoice?? read more

Alas, almost a year later, after Kahala installed our bamboo floor, the new floor became soaked from a roof leak which evolved into minor disaster. We had to work really quickly after we found the rain soaked through our beautiful Kahala floor. Shirley sent her crew to replace it after remediation. They are outstanding! read more

My husband & I are so very happy w/ our new flooring! Best decision made was choosing Kahala Pacific to do the job! My husband attended free seminar about a year ago & was very impressed w/ Shirley's knowledge of all the different flooring options. We were able to get "seminar pkg pricing" even though a year had passed since attending seminar. We did get one other quote from another company and although we received quote much faster it was not detailed like what Shirley provided us w/ & it was significantly higher too. The other company's quote was just total cost, nothing was itemized like Shirley's quote. We were able to clearly see what each & everything cost! Reviewing as a new customer who is in the process of conceptualizing renovation plans for a new home. I was in the area shopping at a nearby showroom when Kahala Pacific Floors caught my eye. The store was full of fresh ideas to appeal to many different aesthetics. There were shelves full of books which contained modern, sleek and classy options for flooring and wall tiling. After spending a few hours, I set up an appointment for Shirley to stop by my place and have a look. Kahala Pacific Floors goes beyond basic carpet and tile options and features many which are agreeable to even the most discerning customers. There are several sample books dedicated to modern, high fashion themed spaces both light and dark. The owner Shirley is very kind and sincere. Although the renovation process can be somewhat daunting and inaccessible to first timers, Shirley has a way of putting you at ease. I really appreciate her attentiveness, and customer-focused approach to making suggestions on how to maximize space and visual impact. She's down to earth and will entertain any questions you have, even if you're in the same boat as me as a complete newbie to the renovation process. When we decided to replace our carpet with vinyl plank flooring, we knew it would be costly. We researched online, trying to get the basic knowledge of wear layers and padding. We watched tons of videos and thought we'd save a lot of money by doing the installation ourselves. Over the course of 3 weeks we visited about 5 different flooring company's as well as Home Depot and Lowe's. Then our Sunday paper arrived and we found an article showcasing Kahala Pacific Flooring and decided to check it out. Upon our first visit on Tuesday, we met Jolin, she listened to our wish list and was able to help us narrow down our choices and provided us with sample planks so we could lay it out at home. She also informed us the owner can come to our home measure the square footage and provide a free estimate. After laying out the plank at home, we were ready to make the commitment. We returned on Thursday confident in our decision and shared it with Jolin. We discussed the pricing and learned if we use their company for the installation, the planks would be $.10/sq ft cheaper. There were additional discounts offered if we attended in the online seminar hosted by the owner Shirley. So we signed up and scheduled an appointment for the estimate on Friday. Shirley arrived on time, was professional and patient with answering our questions. She measured the square footage and advised she would have a quote to us by Monday. We watched the online seminar on Saturday, where we learned the layered breakdown of the vinyl plank, beveled edge and how to take care of the flooring. Shirley emailed us our estimate on Monday, including the discounts for attending the seminar, using their in-house installers and paying by cash or check. I'll be honest, seeing the cost for installation was a shocker, but after thinking about it we decided to use professionals. If your spending thousands of dollars on material, you want to make sure it's installed correctly! We went in on Monday to make the payment and schedule the installation. We asked if it couldn't be installed before December 1st, could we schedule it for next year, because we didn't want to disrupt our holiday. Shirley, said she would try and move things around and see if they could accommodate us. Luckily, they would be able to begin the installation that Thursday. (Panicking) . We rushed to move all of our furniture to the back patio and were ready for installation! Installation began Thursday and was finished on Wednesday (no work on weekends). The installers were very polite, respectful and worked hard. Watching them tear out the carpet, level the ground, sand it, install the planks and baseboards convinced us we made the right decision using Kahala Pacific Flooring. If we had done the installations it would've taken us longer and quiet possibly having lot of arguments. From start to finish, it was a great experience. FRUSTRATED, ANNOYED, AND DISAPPOINTED!! My husband & I went to the store and spoke with Shirley. We fell in love with Tigerwood-Engineering Flooring. She advised we could get a better price if we attended her seminar which we did. The following week Shirley came out to measure. I allowed 2 weeks for an estimate. Received nothing. I called numerous times with no call back. Once Jolin advised our file was on top so I thought I would receive an estimate soon. NOTHING! Estimate was finally done 4 weeks later. My first exposure to Kahala Floors was at the Saturday seminar given (for Free) by Shirley. It was extremely informative and helpful in deciding what to do about my damaged floor. She talked about the differences in flooring quality, engineered wood, all wood and non-wood/vinyl floors. Up until that seminar, I had only considered a direct replacement of my damaged Anderson floor. After the seminar I could not help but see all the differences she talked about and how "inadequate" the flooring is at the big box stores. Also, after looking at all the sample floors laid down in her showroom, I couldn't help but coming back to the Tigerwood floors. I considered Ipe and several other exotic woods but kept coming back to Tigerwood. When comparing the quality of Kahala's Tigerwood to other manufacturers, the luster, depth and richness of Kahala's Tigerwood was noticeably better. Shirley and her staff was pretty good about keeping us informed; particularly because she had to have the Tigerwood engineered planks made and then again when we had to delay the installation because of visitors. Once the installation started I could not have asked for more professional craftsmen. Brandon, Kevin and Korea were always on time, very accommodating to our wishes for what we wanted beyond the basic installation, and were very polite and courteous. I cannot emphasize the term "Craftsmen" enough. Our original floor was Anderson pecan engineered wood that had significant water and sun damage. Kevin, Brandon and Korea made sure everything was smooth and level despite the damage. Intersections between the new planks are even with no highspots. When installing planks that intersected older flooring parts - like existing cabinet or door molding - they skillfully undercut the molding to leave the smallest joint line. They even cut a stair riser around some decorative baseboard we had to leave installed for our stair railing. If you've ever done woodworking you know that we often cover our faults with caulk - like gaps in our joinery, too wide a kerf, etc. Much of the joints didn't even need caulking because of the precision used. I've done some woodworking and furniture building so I was extremely impressed with their joinery. After the completion of our floor, Shirley and Monica followed up to ensure all was well and made reconcilliation of our final bill easy. Kahala Floor is highly recommended. We highly recommend Kahala Pacific Floors and their installation contractors; and we would definitely use them again after replacing all the old carpeting and linoleum in our house with new hardwood floors (1100sf), tile (400sf), slate (35sf), and carpeting (650sf) at a final cost of $24,000. We just purchased a 20 year old home, and all the flooring needed replacement. I got quotes from 4 large reputable companies on Oahu and Kahala Pacific Floors was the most competitive on price and quality of product. We contracted with Kahala Pacific shortly after receiving the initial quote and received a 4% early bird discount, and also received lower than outlet store prices by attending a short instructional seminar at the store on a Saturday morning. They conduct the workshop about once a month, and it was well worth the time to understand how the company purchases their products, and to meet the contractors and all the support staff that took care of us through the whole evolution. Shirley, the owner, came to our house on very short notice and took extra time to determine our needs, helping us to find just the right hardwood, tile, slate, and carpets that struck just the right balance between quality, durability for the family, and expense. They delivered all the wood material early for the required week or two of acclimation. To save $1000, we were allowed to remove the carpeting ourselves, which was not an allowable option by the other companies. We also saved $300 by removing and installing toilets ourselves. The dustiest work was completed first: removing and installing the kitchen, bathrooms, and front entry tile and slate. The job took a week using one skilled installer, Chris, who had a very good eye and made recommendations/adjustments that worked out great. The house was built on a concrete slab, so it required additional prep work to level the floors for the wood -- several days work with two installers, Tim and Chad. A moisture test also revealed that we had additional moisture levels coming up through the floor -- not bad, but right on the cusp of decision to add additional sealant. Though we could have opted out of the sealants which added $1500 to the total cost, Shirley and Allen helped us by offering lots of advice and innovative ways to lay down the sealant which used fewer pails and saved several hundred dollars. It also made the floor softer. If we chose not to add the sealant, they would have used another layer of poly as a solution for additional barrier. Tim and Chad were always on time, worked hard, and were a model of professionalism. With house guests coming in and out they remained accommodating and respectful. For us, they are the new standard for workmen in the house. They were true craftsman and I marvel everyday at the perfect installation in the places I didn't expect it -- like on the stairs and all the moulding at joints and ends. We used the hardwood quarter round throughout the house and each end piece is tapered and transitions perfectly. The stairs purposely have no moulding and look like original installation. It's all beautiful. Post installation they even came back for a day to correct a squeak that had developed at the back door and go over the floor one last time for any stray glue, etc. I looked all over Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot for felt tabs to put under the furniture on the new floor, and could only find very expensive small packages. I called Jaymie at the office and left a message on the machine that I needed help. The very next morning they delivered 2 large and comprehensive packages of felt (about 400 pieces) right to the house -- and it was about the same price as about 40 low quality pads from the other shops. I wish I'd called them first! The carpets were installed in half a day by Alex. It was very well done and we're very happy. At the beginning of the project we were going with regular rebound padding to keep costs down, but we requested to upgrade to the best available padding. It added $200, but provided more noticeable cushion, and moisture barrier, too. Since we only ordered from local stock on the island to facilitate a quick install, we we did run into a snag in the last few days when the carpet we ordered had run out of stock. With Shirley's advice we did find a suitable replacement which was the same patterned carpet in a different color -- today we like it just as much as the first choice. We did make several adjustments throughout the month-long process, and the team at the office kept up with every change request. A couple weeks after the conclusion of the whole project, we even got a check back from the office after all the reconciled changes showed an overpayment. The only thing Kahala about Kahala Pacific Floors is the price. We requested a quote from Shirley to do our floors, wood and tile, but not only were her prices higher, she did not have the material in stock. So we went with a wood flooring installer that had the material and requested that Shirley install our tile in our master bathroom. She agreed and informed us that she will be away for 10 days. 12 days past and we decided to reach out to her knowing that she was on vacation and probably has a lot of catching up to do. She then responds that she thought we chose someone else and informs us that she needs to redo the quote... I'm guessing so she can charge us more. The entire process was a waste of time. Not only did we turn down other quotes, our renovation was on pause for her. We are ordinary working local people and not wealthy Kahala residents. If you're not a wealthy Kahala resident where money is no object, than I would continue looking at other flooring installers. read more

I would give them 41/2 stars were I able. Great company and product. I purchased 600 square feet of tigerwood "Kahala" style engineered wood flooring. I looked at several local competitors, and Pacific International matched the lowest price I found for a similar product. The employees were knowledgeable and offered information and tips for self installation. lastly, they had the product ready for pickup within 72 hours, whereas most competitors wanted 2-6 weeks to import their product. Immediate gratification was indeed gratifying. The Product: The Kahala floor is an engineered wood floor, 5-inch wide with a 4mm thick surface (tigerwood in my case). This means it can be refinished a minimum of 2 times, up to 4 if done with care. This means this is a floor that will likely last the lifetime of your home. Visually, the floor is beautiful. I was happy to learn that the planks were cut to 5 different lengths ahead oif time, which meant a lot less cutting for my chop saw. the only issues i had were the occasional plank that was slightly out of alignment. I placed planks without glue first to ensure they were flush and sanded as necessary to avoid any gaps. I would estimate 1 plank aout of every two 23 sq ft boxes would have a slight issue that required 5 minutes or so to fix, roughly 1 in 50. Pacific also carries, in stock, the finishing pieces needed for transitions and trim. For my part, i used white quarter round from lowes as I found the color transition made my floors "pop" visually. Overall, a great product and we are very happy with our new downstairs. read more

If you get a chance, call to schedule to learn more about flooring. To be honest, I never heard of this company, but I was pleasantly surprised when I entered their showroom. They had everything. I thought it was going to be a boring canned speech, but Shirley made it so entertaining....and we even had coffee and pastries! I learned a lot about flooring that morning....a lot! My wife and I spoke and decided to schedule an appointment. Shirley was on time for our meeting at our home. I say that because so many times I get vendors showing up late or not even showing up....go figure? Shirley is very professional with some small talk, but focused on measuring our rooms and listening to any issues or questions you might have. She asked questions and we questioned her and she was very polite. Wife and I discussed and we decided to proceed with Kahala Pacific. We met with Jo-Lin Hilton and she showed us the various samples. She was very pleasant and very very patient as it was difficult deciding on the right flooring. She even let us take home samples so we could see if our furnishings matched. We decided on two different types of vinyl luxury planks....so beautiful and durable. She explained the differences and the prices and how they would install the products. We had discounts for attending the seminar and more discounts because we decided to do more flooring. Initially we planned on flooring only for our master bedroom, master bathroom, and exercise room, but Shirely said she would discount it we decided to do the other rooms- 3 bedrooms, dining room, and kitchen. The prices were fantabulous compared to other companies. OK--- the installation. I have gone through other companies and the last installer I had was just awful. We ended up in an argument because he was pretty nasty because their work was terrible. Yes, they were cheap, but installation was bad. Because this job was fairly large, Kahala Pacific divided it into 2 different dates, which worked out better. If you do this, you move the furniture into the area not worked on and vice versa. Folks, besides their reasonable price, you want to be sure you get flooring that is properly done and a crew that is easy to work with. I had Ian and Kevin....and they were the best I have ever seen. So professional and always thinking how they can the job done the best and the fastest way for their customer AND of course...... being courteous to their customer. They did it all! Kahala Pacific is the best! And do not let their name "Kahala" fool you. They are not snotty and rich...they are down to earth people trying to sell the best flooring with the best floor installation. If you are looking for hardwood flooring, your search is over! Kahala Pacific Floors is awesome! We highly recommend them. We talked with several other companies, but were not impressed with their customer service. We were looking for a specific color/finish of hardwood flooring for about six months. Kahala Pacific Floors found us exactly what we wanted! We had engineered hardwood installed on our staircase and entire second floor (was previously carpeted). From beginning to end, the project went smoothly. Shirley, the owner, came to our house and gave us an estimate and stopped by several times during the installation. She came up with great ideas for a few "tricky" areas in our home. She is very knowledgeable, helpful and nice! Paulette, our sales rep, found the exact floor we had been searching for. She went the extra mile for us and we truly appreciated her customer service! Also, she kept in touch with us throughout the entire project and was always available via email or phone to answer questions. Kevin and Brandon, the installers, were wonderful. I have been renovating my entire condo; therefore, I have and am still dealing with various contractors. I found Kahala Pacific Floors just by driving by and seeing their sign. As soon as I walked in the door, I was greeted by Jo-Lin, who guided me toward my wants, needs, and price point. I later attended a class held by Kahala Flooring that was extremely informative and helped me make my decision. At no time was any sales pressure applied. I took my time in selecting my floor coverings. Jo-Lin even sent me several samples via email when I was on the mainland. The owner, Shirley, is very honest and down-to-earth. She is willing to work with you to ensure your needs are met. Kahala Flooring did their best to work with me on my time schedule. Shirley personally supervises every job, and the installers are very concientious about their work, ensuring that they do an excellent job and that the customer is happy. I have never seen anything like this, and believe me, I have remodeled several homes. In fact, the entire staff is outstanding, and goes above and beyond to accommodate one's needs. Kahala Flooring has many products to choose from. I have a beautiful Acacia hardwood floor laid on a diagonal pattern that adds outstanding beauty to my home. We had a water damage to our existing wood floors. After the water mitigation company took care of the water damage to dry out and remove the damaged area, we found the replacement floor at Kahala Pacific. They have a wide selection of higher end flooring that we were not able to find at other dealers. Having been through a major home renovation recently, we understood that replacing flooring in a large area with difficult angles and with narrow plank flooring would take time to both order the product, acclimate it, remove the rest of the flooring, level low spots in the existing concrete, and then install. We also had a lot of bulky furniture to move around, so that slowed the install. The install went very well and the floor is beautiful, but did take some time as we expected. I think Kahala can do all types of installs, but they excel on the more difficult installs. read more

My husband and I attended a class held by Kahala Flooring. We scheduled an appointment to get a quote for new flooring. The owner came to our house and measured everything and said she'd get back to us but never did. We tried calling a few times only to be told she was busy and would get back to us. She never did. Poor customer service and what a waste of our time. It would have been better if she just came out and said she wasn't interested or able to help us. Very disappointing! read more

The seminar was extremely informative and well done. It was obvious that Shirley had been in the business a long time and really knew her products well. After the seminar, the staff was very helpful in assisting us as we decided on the Tigerwood engineered wood flooring to replace carpet in our bedrooms. The flooring replacement was part of a larger renovation we were doing on our home and it was at times challenging to coordinate the timing just right. Shirley, Monica and Jo-Lin were all exceptionally understanding and were able to accommodate our install on short notice. The installation was done quickly and and efficiently, despite the fact that the concrete under our carpet had to be leveled out. First I would give 3.5 stars if it was an option. I ordered Ipe flooring back in the summer in preparation for my renovation, my sales associate Paulette was very friendly and helpful she told me how much overage I would need based on my measurements and I could return any unopened boxes with a restocking fee. In the fall I had the flooring delivered and found out Paulette was no long with the company surprisingly the owner Shirley remembered both me and my order from months before. The flooring was delivered on time. There was a few transition pieces that had finish issues and one with a crack. I called and they promptly made replacement pieces. I installed the flooring myself, the owner Shirley was very helpful with tips on installing the flooring and it went down very easily. I am very happy with the quality of the flooring. Due to delays with the renovation it took me about 5 months or so from delivery to get the flooring installed. When I called about returning the overage(I had about 6 boxes of overage), there was very little waste in the flooring. I was told that I could no return the unopened boxes since it was greater than 90 days, of course the sale person who originally told me the amount of overage I needed was no longer there. This was disappointing as it is wasted flooring/money. Overall all I am very happy with he quality of the flooring and how easy it was to install. A few notes. The boards are all 4' and less in length and there did seem higher proportion of short boards(12") that i would expect to the point were some were put aside and not used. read more
