A multi generation business, they have resurfaced and laid the grounds for a substantial amount of homes in the Kahala/Waialae Iki/Hawaii Loa Ridge/Diamond Head area. Their prices are very reasonable and they do price match if you have competing estimates from other vendors. But what really made me believe was their incredible attention to detail. After years of trying to clean up after my 3 cats, we finally decided to rip out the old, stained carpets and install laminate flooring. Chris Brenna and his brother did an excellent job of installation. They moved all the heavy furniture and even left some sort of thingies on the bottom to avoid scratching the floor. When I found they had neglected to put the laminate on the risers between floor levels, and they came back to fix it with no problem. In fact, Chris was really great in keeping us informed about all aspects of the job. They were careful to clean up after themselves, too. Great group to work with. EXTREMELY happy with the job just executed by Chris (project manager/owner) and Carl (job foreman) with the replacement of poor quality laminate flooring for real solid 3/4" oak flooring that we have been planning to accomplish for a long time, but finally got it done. We finally have had time to work on the house since retirement and the fact that we are pretty much stuck at home now since the pandemic (leisure travels anyone? I say not... and so says most of the world these days). The work that Carl performed was exceptional in every way; a particular standout was the undercutting which eliminated the need for double trim/baseboards which existed prior to the new floors. The cutting of flooring around support posts and treads on the stairs was so accurate that no trim was required whatsoever. Another stand out was the two tone nosing on the stairs that was hand made by Chris; exceptionally beautiful and practical so people have no excuse for missing a step. We shopped around and these folks were selected as they had very reasonable prices and we were very impressed at the first meeting regarding their knowledge and can-do attitude. Plus, all the 5 star Yelp reviews didn't hurt either :-) PS- The work only took one month from signing the contract, shipping the materials from the mainland, and complete installation (took only 6 days to install) ! We strongly recommend the Flooring Specialists! Chris Brenna, Jason and Alex did outstanding work on our extensive flooring project. We recently bought in an area of the island that receives a lot of rainfall. Under some old carpet and peel and stick tile were about 1000 sq ft of aged hardwood floors that were originally built with the home. After removing the carpet and tile on our own, we asked Chris to take a look at them and let us know if they could be refinished into good shape. He said yes and was willing to work on a room with a lot of sticky adhesive on top of the wood (from the peel and stick tile) and several rooms with paint on top of the wood. We also had one addition that did not have hardwood floor under the carpet, but rather plywood. We asked Chris to install wood in this room that would match the rest of the house. The last big challenge was that with the addition the hallway had been extended, so we actually had 2 types of flooring in the hallway (oak and Douglas fir) and a small, but noticeable step between the addition and the hallway floor. Chris and team took all of these challenges in stride. Very quickly after agreeing on the project (i.e. within a day or two), Chris dropped off the oak that would be used for the back room (this was to allow it to acclimate due to the wetness in our area). He *already* had enough of our desired type of hardwood in stock, which saved us weeks of having to wait for a new shipment. Once that was dropped off and acclimating, Jason and Alex came and began preparing the hallway and the refinish of the main house. They expertly removed the Douglas fir in the hallway and interlaced the existing oak section of our hallway with new oak and added a slight incline to make the point where the hallway and addition met be hardly noticeable. They then moved on to sanding and preparing the floors throughout the main part of the house. We couldn't believe how cleanly the floors turned out. They had been hidden beneath carpet for years and were revived by the sanding. There was some bruising on floors that had Douglas fir and Jason and Alex worked to replace a few sections using wood that they had removed and salvaged from the hallway. It turned out great. Then, Jason and Alex laid the new oak flooring in the addition and sanded it. It came out beautifully. After doing all of this and preparing the house, we then waited for a couple of weeks for the floors to acclimate some more. Then, Jason and Alex returned to seal the floors. This process took several days and they used a water-based seal. The floors throughout the house looked *amazing* following the application of the seal. There were a few odds and ends that needed to be completed to finish the job and Chris came at the end to finalize those. All in all, we asked them to do a *lot* of work on our floors and they consistently came through to exceed our expectations. Take a look at the before and after photos I've attached here to get a sense of the incredible work they did. They *transformed* the house. Two other key points are worth noting: (1) Chris, Jason and Alex were highly communicative and were a pleasure to work with throughout the project; and (2) the cost of the job was exactly what was quoted. I am thrilled with my new floor and refinishing of my pre-existing floor (Brazilian cherry) for almost our entire house while living at home. Chris (owner/president) is extremely knowledgeable, experienced, super hard working, honest, sincere, straightforward guy. He replies almost immediately to every single question I asked. He was very easy to work with and fast! Job was done on time! The job was overseen by Jason (foreman) and his crew. Their impeccable craftsmanship, work ethic, politeness, positive attitude, attention to details is paralleled only, I believe, by the best Japanese carpenters (I'm from Japan, so I know I'm biased). It was a joy to come home every day to see the beautiful progress they made! By the way, Jason is extremely neat and organized. I secretly took a picture of how he neatly lined up his equipment at the end of the day! Jason and his crew neatly packed all our furniture in one area of the house, and they helped move us as they did the floors in phases. They took off our old baseboards and installed beautiful new ones. Chris knew how to install floor heating under our wood floors--it's a nice thing to have in upper Nuuanu. (I already had heated floors in our bathroom and love it!) Jason disassembled some of our furniture and removed our doors carefully and put them all back together. Aloha! Working at a Real Estate Office/Property Management Company, we've had the privilege of working with Flooring Specialists for about 6 years now. Our experiences with them have always been pleasant and professional. The various crews (depending on the scope of work) always arrive promptly and are ready to start the job as planned. As our tenant's leases expire and if they vacate, we generally refurbish the unit before selling it or re-renting it. Chris and his teams are always spot on. They come in, remove the old carpeting and tile, usually in one day, then perform any preparation or leveling on the slab (if necessary). After the leveling dries, they return to start the underlayment and wood flooring. In some instances, Chris's team has gone above and beyond in performing tasks that aren't always in their scope of work, but are willing to please. In most of our instances, the entire process is completed within about a week. In few cases, we've had minor damage to the new floors due to accidental plumbing issues or a tenant scratching or gouging the floor during their move in or move out. We call Flooring Specialists to come in, evaluate the extent of the damage, then replace the damaged planks effortlessly, leaving the floor looking brand new once again... I have hired Chris Brennan of Flooring Specialists to install engineered wood flooring in two different homes over the past 5 years. First, he starts off with a quick visit to do measurements and get an overview of what you want done. We purchased the engineered wood flooring panels directly from Pacific American Lumber on Sand Island Rd. (see Janice at Pacific American Lumber. She is very knowledgable.). He is very easy to work with, and provides great costumer service. Scheduling the installation work to coincide with your household's schedule is also a breeze. Chris's crew work very efficiently and completed the jobs relatively quickly. The quality of their work is excellent with the flooring panels, stairway risers & bull nosing, and baseboard installation all showing first-class fitment and finish work. A section of our concrete slab was uneven, and Chris was able to bring in some special fill material which basically evened out the slab so that the wood flooring would sit perfectly. I highly recommend Chris for his excellent quality work, quick and efficient installation time, and all at a reasonable rate! read more

I rarely give reviews; however, our experience with all aspects of Flooring Specialists was so profoundly positive that it was just the right things to do. To begin with, the company allowed us to bring sample home to see exactly how the products would look in our house - not 4"x4" squares like other places - but actual planks. What an incredible difference that made. And, as we were replacing four main floors due to water damage, not having to imagine what the floor would look like took an enormous amount of stress out of the process. We were allowed to take samples home no less than three times (maybe more) for a total of at least ten samples. Olivia, was especially generous with her time. Yet, all of the sales people could not possibly have been more helpful or more gracious. Then, Ricky, the owner himself, came to our house to do the measuring. Once we chose our flooring, we waited only two weeks for installation, most of that time waiting for the flooring to arrive. Dale and Chad were our installers; and while three days were allowed for completion, it took only a day and a-half. Both men were extremely professional and respectful - not only of us - but also of all our belongings they had to move. They did an amazing job and even cleaned up as they went! Our floors are absolutely beautiful and so well-done. The company even sent a supervisor the same day the work was finished to make sure the installation went well and that we were happy with everything. We love our floors so much and our experience with Flooring Specialists was so incredibly positive that we are already planning to have Flooring Specialists replace the other floors in our home. Chris and his team comprised of Kale and his wife did an excellent job. He was able to come out very quickly after contacting him via Yelp to measure the house. Not long after, we received a detailed quote and he advised that we could either purchase our own flooring or his (we went with his after first thinking we would go with a Lowes option. Glad we did!). They helped a great deal with moving the furniture for the second move from bedrooms to living room (although myself and my friends moved it there in the first place and back. What a workout! Haha) and I was able to leave the bigger pieces like my bed and a heavy desk in place. If I had a criticism, it would be attention to detail. The flooring wasn't edged correctly behind my fridge, and the caps went missing on one of my toilets. There were also a number of paint dings on my kitchen cabinets and doors but Chris reimbursed me for having my painter come out to do repairs. Flooring Specialists were able to demolish our tough Saltillo tile floor in a very timely manner. They were extremely patient with us regarding multiple reschedulings due to issues with our contractors and cabinet makers. Once the installation began, we encountered some problems with the floor not being level. Kale, the installer, was very patient and willing to undo some of the flooring to re-level the section. At all times he was courteous and helpful. We ran into another snag, but when I contacted Chris, the owner, he got back to me immediately and offered to remedy the situation, stating he just wanted me to be happy with the job. We worked with Chris Brenna on a remodel for the upstairs of our Kahala house - 3 bedrooms plus an Ohana Suite with a full kitchen and bathroom. It was important to us to find a crew that did very good finish work - it's a nice home - and complete the project in a tight time frame since we were moving in! Work included a completely new kitchen (with associated electrical and plumbing work), one new bathroom (replace tub with walk in, new tile, fixtures, cabinets), new flooring throughout + baseboards. Patrick laid the bathroom tile himself. David was always on site and did a great job with the cabinet installations. I think from start to finish they completed the project in roughly 2 weeks which included the demo and prep. As always with a remodel, there's a punch list at the end for a few minor things but they were very few and Chris' guys came in quickly to finish it off. Project came in on time and on budget! Can't say that about too many remodels - would highly recommend them. read more
