Just Salad, and Just Average tbh. I was in Chicago for work, and I appreciate how this is a healthier option that's right in the loop. I ordered online from my hotel, and popped over. Ok this is the part to perk up to, the important part of my review: THIS SPOT IS INSIDE AN OFFICE BUILDING on the first floor. I had no idea, and walked around aimlessly until I saw another gentleman walking with his 'Just Salad' reusable bowl and asked him where it is. From there, I popped in and grabbed it, easy enough. The salad was just fine. I ate it all, I just didn't enjoy it that much. Lots of lettuce to chicken ratio, and just overall kinda meh. Price was fair for being a lunch option in the city (clocking around $15) but again the salad was just OK. I'd explore another option next time I'm in the area, but your mileage may vary. read more

Actually, not "just salad" - they also have soups, wraps, smoothies, and avocado toast. Located in the Illinois Center, I would say this spot caters to the business lunch crowd. Similar to Sweetgreen, you order up at the counter/customize and pay before either taking to go or eating in at one of a few tables. They also have a designated section for pick-up if you've ordered ahead online. Decor is clean & minimalistic. I usually opt for a salad, but have tried their wraps as well. Pretty good in a pinch, but like everywhere else, their prices have gone up and my last visit I walked out with a $15 salad. Personally, I think Sweetgreen has higher quality ingredients for the same price but I do appreciate Just Salad's sustainability initiatives. No complaints on service - usually pretty friendly and efficient. Solid 3.5 stars. read more

This is apparently a chain that has several locations in the downtown area. This one is in Illinois Center and I stumbled upon it while working at a conference in the Hyatt and taking the pedway to go get lunch. They have wraps, smoothies, soup and several types of salads which you can customize, or create your own (you order and they make it). Loved this. So many choices, just a bit pricey...but it is downtown. I didn't get a lot of protein in my selection of the food but I think it was was a good choice and I would come back to try other salad options. read more

Came late in afternoon. Employees were hanging out at the customer tables, then made me wait till they provided 2 employees with their food, heaping amounts. This took about 20minutes among all the chatting they were having. I received some food that was supposed to be a warm bowl, nothing was warm and it was super dry (chicken & lentils were hard and cold, as an example). Given it was not warm at all, threw out to avoid potential food poisoning. Might be good spot, but not later in day. This is specific to 111 location. Other locations are not like this. Update: Definitely surprised by routine answer from Just Salad on something so significant as improper food temperatures. read more

Nice overpriced salad place that serves a variety of pre-ingredient-selected salads and lets you customize to your heart's content. Sweetgreens does it better, but the folks working at Just Salad were super friendly, even though they close after the lunch rush and were a bit hurried to run me out of there by 3pm. Like Sweetgreens, the decor is somewhere between stockroom chic and interrogation room minimalism. Unlike Sweetgreens, Just Salad's ingredients aren't 97% greens. The ratio of greens to actual fun stuff changes from pre-mixed salad to salad, but the Just Salad maker was pleasant when I asked for a few additional things and didn't charge me. Asking for actual free tap water seemed to befuddle them, though; they would prefer you buy their bottled stuff and not ask for too many other highfalutin things. read more

Love this practically brand new, bright and shiny Just Salad inside the pedway (Illinois Center building). I have been to the location in the Shops at North Bridge and enjoyed my experience. I like the fact that JS is more than just a one-note salad chain and also offers sandwiches/wraps, warm bowls, toasts, soup, and smoothies. Now that the all-clear has been sounded (for now) on romaine lettuce, I opted for the Caesar salad.The bread that came with the salad was delicious, almost like a seeded rosemary. The portion is generous and I appreciated that chicken is included w/out an upcharge. The ingredients were fresh and lively. Would def order again as this is one of my go-to salads. Since I had braved the cold air, I decided to treat myself to a cup of the pumpkin bisque. It was a little under seasoned, but the flavors came through and there were even bits of pureed pumpkin in the soup, lending taste and texture. The portion was just right--so often restaurants get it wrong, interpreting 'cup' to mean variously 'thimble' or 'bathtub'. Though the spot was not very crowded around 2 pm when I came in for a late lunch, I am sure it gets packed earlier in the day. There was only one other customer ahead of me, and two that came in after me. The salad artist was polite and professional, and the cashier appeared overwhelmed, although she might have been a new employee. Most people were picking up their orders to go, which is probably the wise decision as the music seemed overbearing. At a couple of points I felt like I was shouting at the people behind the counter just to be heard over the sound system :(. After my positive experience here, I might decide to spring for one of the reusable salad bowls (although not sure how that works...I saw the rubberized bowls sitting out in stacks, and would probably feel better taking it home to wash first, then bringing it back on a future visit... LOL). I am holding out hope that I win one of Just Salad's VIP black bowls that will allow me to bypass the line and allow me to assume my rightful position as the Sultan of Salad, if only in my own mind. read more

Brand new, inside the Illinois Center - this little salad spot is a fun addition. Although salads are their specialty, they also carry sandwiches/toast, wraps, soup, and smoothies. They offer a lot of "build your own" options, and carry ten different types of proteins - including 3 vegetarian options (egg, egg whites, and tofu.) Just Salad is also known for their reusable containers, which if you purchase, you'll get FREE toppings (like avocado) with each use! Plus they say the bowls save like 75K in plastic salad bowls each year, so you can feel like a good person when you are carrying it around. It is hard to say how the service will be, since today was just opening day - but so far, all the employees were friendly and I was in and out fast. Oh PS - they have baked protein treats by the registers. Do yourself a favor and grab one! So tasty! read more

I decided to check out this spot since I saw it on Ritual and I'm glad I did! I didn't have the full in-store experience, but my meal was delicious and ready within the 10-15 minutes promised by the app. I ordered the California salad, but subbed out the romaine with super food greens which consisted of kale, spinach, and cabbage. Everything tasted super fresh, and I was so full by the end of my meal. I think this might be my new go-to salad place - i love that there are so many customization options and they have the eco-friendly reusable bowl option ($1). The salad is kind of pricey ($10-11 after taxes), but the portions are huge, so I think it is definitely worth it! read more

I used to love coming here for lunch. Would come about once a week. For awhile it was good, clean food at reasonable prices. But the past THREE times I have gone I have gotten sick from the food. Each time I have ordered something different from the menu, and same result. I know it gets busy in there, but I think the employees need to start slowing down and focusing more on adhering to proper food handling standards so this doesn't continue. read more

I had salad here using Ritual, and my first impression was nice - tha place is clean and neat, the portion is of decent size, and they offer reusable bowl for free topping anytime afterwards. But when I got home and opened my salad, it turned out that is is 80% kale, and the rest -- chicken, apples, cheese - are just couple pieces each! They politely and professionally walked me through my options and helped me decide on the Barbacoa bowl. It was DELICIOUS!!! Just how they described it. Bummed about this. I have eaten here about 3 times a week since they opened, and it has gone completely downhill. Months ago, I created one of the best salads I've ever had, so I decided to make that my go-to. As time has passed (I have never changed anything about the salad), it has gotten worse and worse. Each day is a gamble, you never know if it'll be a good day or bad day. The inconsistency is astounding. One day I will order the salad and it will be amazing, and the very next day I can go back and order the exact same thing and it could be absolutely disgusting. Dependent on the days (avoid Mondays and Tuesdays at all costs), the chicken tastes like it had been sitting in a freezer for 7 years. The ingredients will taste anything but fresh, but then on other days, everything is perfect. They clearly use ingredients from the previous week and just store them over the weekend or until they are out. Not worth spending $13 regularly on, when you never know what you're going to get. Every other the time I order from here, I end up tossing all of the chicken and other ingredients out of my salad and just end up eating the lettuce as my meal. Such a bummer, I am no longer going to frequent here. read more
