I really love the light flavor and the service was very quick, however I don't like how drinks are provided without a top and set out to the public. So we grabbed a table in front of the huge round window. The atmosphere is always bright fresh and inviting. It is always clean and comfortable. I love the large marble sinks to wash your hands before your meal. Our meals were all hot and delicious. The variety of options is endless. I will return soon. read more

Met a friend here for happy hour after work. It's inside a higher end mall sort of similar to water tower place. I really liked this spot and the concept they've got going on. I wanna say there's about 10-15 different spots you can try, all in one space. The happy hour stuff is pretty good and reasonably priced, food items and certain drinks/cocktails as well. This place feels fancy and has plenty of seating for all sorts of groups (it's on the top level) or even if you want to get some work done. You order the food and they bring it to you. They have kiosk you can order from if you're trying to grab and go. I can't say everything I got but I definitely enjoyed the sushi and the pizza with pepperoni I got. Only thing I wouldn't recommend is the Chicago dog, it was mid. Definitely will be back, then I'll go to the Gucci store after. Haha read more

I went with a group here and it was so nice to cater to everyone's varying food preferences! I opted for a salmon poké bowl from Aster Sushi. It was delicious! My only complaint is that I wanted sriracha and they wouldn't provide any despite having bottles of it in their kitchen. The food hall has digital screens to order from which made it super easy to see all of the food options. I wish there was a bar with the food to be able to enjoy a cocktail with your meal. This was such a cool concept and it made it so easy with 5 of us that all wanted to eat something different. You order at a kiosk and you get a text from each place when your food is ready and your receipt tells you which window to go to. They had such a variety of options that everyone could easily find something they wanted. The sinks/soap in the dining area was very convenient but there wasn't paper towel left which left my hands soaked. I believe there was also a bar on the floor above us but we didn't realize that until after we ordered. The food was surprisingly good. The salad was massive and the rest of our dinners were the perfect size for the price. No one in our group complained about any of their choices, even our 3 year old loved the mac and cheese. We were walking around enjoying the Christmas decorations and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat and had seen this food hall before but had never tried it. We walked around to get an idea of what we wanted before heading to a kiosk to order. Ordering is at the kiosks only and it seems you need a physical credit card as it wasn't taking Apple pay so I had to dig out a card. Beverages aren't available from any of the food establishments' sections on the touchscreen which is a little annoying; I learned later you have to place a second order with the chocolate shop to get a cup for fountain drinks. I didn't figure that out before closing out my order and leaving the kiosk, so figured I'd just grab a cup of water but they were out of water cups...and no humans to ask...long lines to get back on a kiosk and then my food was ready so ended up with no beverage. The food was good though! I enjoyed my falafel salad which was fresh and the falafel was crispy. The garlic sauce was a nice touch. Other options looked good as well; I definitely recommend checking out both sides of the food hall to see all the options. Seating is limited so be prepared to potentially walk to another area of the mall to sit and eat if you aren't doing takeout. Not a bad option if you're looking for a quick bite in the Michigan Avenue shopping area. I'd recommend bringing a water bottle from home to avoid the beverage challenges I encountered. read more

You wouldn't expect much from a food court at a mall but Hogsalt (think Au Cheval, Galit, or Ciccio Mio) took this to the next level. The atmosphere harkens back to an earlier time in Chicago while the food is more modern. We ordered the Half Rotisserie Chicken from The Rotisserie and the Chicken Shawarma Hummus Bowl from Fresko. I would order both again. I don't know what they are feeding chickens nowadays but the Rotisserie Chicken was HUGE and succulent - all for $12.50. The sauce is also delicious as well, we had the honey mustard. The Chicken Shawarma Hummus Bowl was great too. The chicken was well seasoned and the hummus was creamy. I also appreciated the staff who was calling out order numbers and checking receipts. Last time we came he was able to restore order to the huge crowd gathered around Au Cheval. I finally decided to try Aster Hall on the 5th floor of the Shops at 900 North after coming to this shopping mall for years. It's one of my favorite mall in Chicago since it has a great atmosphere and recently added a lot of comfy seating for shoppers and Downtown workers to relax. The food hall looks nice but quality varies depending on where you order from. The pasta I ordered (Cacio e Pepe) one day a few days ago from Lil Boots were great and tasted like they were even freshly made, a good meal for the price since Cacio e Pepe from any restaurant nearby would cost at least $20+ without tax and tip. I decided to try out Lost Lily's today.... the Orange Chicken was rubbery and tasted honestly like it was from a bad Chinese takeout place.... Not worth $15 I paid. I also honestly think the ordering setup here needs to be overhauled and that takes a star off. It's a bit confusing for first timers (95% of the people here) How to order and where to go aren't that clear since I've seen confused customers going up to the pick up windows thinking that's where they order. Where to go to pick up your food isn't that clear either since the orders are said fast in an environment with a lot of background noise. Have also noticed sometimes utensils are completely out and you need to go hunting around for some or ask one of the guys at the pickup windows for them. There also seems to be a lack of training for how to interact with customers/ customer service skills from some of the places in this food hall that I've noticed and experienced on multiple occasions coming here that make me not want to return. They no longer offer free water and you need to buy a pricy beverage or water separately. Something many people don't know when placing their order at the order kiosks. The ordering system is also a bit confusing honestly and I understand people calling out orders are hard working, often under stress to crank out orders coming in and dealing with the general public all day but saying "hellooo" to confused customers wondering which order is theirs like they're stupid, some are tourists for whom English is a second language) and calling people "boss" knocks another star off. I'm not expecting 5 star service since it's a mall food court, but this isn't really a good look considering this is supposed to be an upscale food hall. I also noticed a hot dog tray sitting across from me from a previous customer who didn't clean up after themselves was never picked up or cleared away for a little over the hour that I ate lunch here recently - despite multiple workers walking by it. Including one of the managers (I think he was the manager since he was going around checking on the status of orders) Maybe it's me but while the food offerings are hit or miss I'm not really a fan of the rude attitude that comes with your order if you go to some of the places where you don't know if you're going to get a side of "hey, boss - hellooo." If you don't pick your food up right after it is called out, are unsure where to return your tray (trash cans are weirdly far away from the tables inside where you can sit down), ask for utensils not noticing the condiments niche which aren't that easy to spot (observed 3 people asking the workers for forks and knives when getting their orders), etc... which belongs at greasy spoon diners or Katz Deli instead of the Mag Mle in a luxury shopping center attached to the Four Seasons Hotel..... I kind of regretted not going to a restaurant or Beatrix Market a few blocks away instead for the same price and better service. 3 Greens Coffee on the first floor though is a good spot here every time I've gone. They have good coffee and pastries as well as professional baristas who seem adequately trained with dealing with customers thankfully. read more

A new take on the mall food court. The place is upscale and different from anyplace you're used to for a mall. No Panda Express, no Chipotle, no Sbarro. It's all upscale food ordered from kiosks. There's a coffee bar and salad bar as well. As you can guess, food and beverages are overpriced (you're at the 900 Shops, so you should anticipate that). The seating is spread out over two floors, with multiple specialty bars scattered throughout. A lovely area where you can relax. read more

I love the concept of this high tech food hall and wish there were more of these pre pandemic when I worked downtown. We ended up here because I noticed they had Small Cheval, which I thought my daughter would enjoy for lunch. I didn't realize it was part of Aster Hall, but even better because it meant there were many food options to choose from. We ordered from a kiosk, which took just a few minutes. My daughter, as expected, went w/ a small cheval kids cheeseburger. And I ordered sushi from another food vendor. From there we received a text letting us know what window to go to and when our food would be ready. It was ready within 5 minutes, which was appreciated because we had a lot of shopping to do in a short amount of time frame. The food was tasty. She demolished the cheeseburger within minutes. My veggie sushi roll was larger than I expected so I could have skipped the miso soup i ordered to go along with it, but i enjoyed a few spoonfuls. This place looks like a mall food court and an Apple Store had a love child. It's futuristic-looking, well-lit, and open. The ordering process is seamless. You can pick from many cuisines and can order multiple things to try on a giant tablet. Then you can get texts on your phone when your orders are ready, and it'll tell you which window to go to. There are also sinks and wet wipes to clean your hands without going to the bathroom. Tried a few things among my friends and I. Sushi was a bit dry but flavor was good. Highly recommend the mac and cheese from the pasta place, which was super rich and pure al dente perfection--great portion size and not bland at all. Cacio e pepe had a nice flavor and texture as well. The chicken shawarma bowl was a little salty but had a ton of yummy toppings like tabouleh and pickles. What a cute hidden gem inside 900 Michigan! On floor four, there's a ton of screens to order food from different vendors like small cheval and Ginza ramen. There's ample amount of seating around the floor to happily enjoy your food. If you go up one more floor, it's a perfect place for WFH and grabbing a drink. The whole upstairs has a ton of couch seating and comfortable chair seating that are clearly meant for a sit-back and relax type of vibe. I found myself a round back chair and I got the chai latte which was honestly one of the better chai lattes I have had. The service was easy and painless. I ordered at the bar, paid, and sat back down at my seat where the bartender delivered my drink. I was able to enjoy some chai while peacefully reading my book. Fair warning, I had my headphones and was able to enjoy my own music. They do have their own overhead music playing that is quite loud. Then you head to whatever window is on your ticket (or more than one) and grab your food. This was not only a fun and easy way to get a quality meal in downtown Chicago, but also a delicious one! Aster Hall is on the fifth floor of the Bloomingdale's building, and you can access it to a special express elevator - enter the main Bloomingdale front door and walk down the left-hand walkway and the elevators to all floors will be on the left, and the last elevator in line takes you directly to the food court. They have huge iPad-like ordering stations where you can select a number of dishes from six or seven different restaurants, including Mexican, burgers, and sushi. It isn't a full menu, but it is a very good one. You put in your order and pay at those large iPad stations, and then you get a number, and you are texted when your order is ready and directed to a specific window to pick it up. (You can't really use the system if you don't have a smart phone that can receive text messages, be forewarned.) There is also a salad bar where you can serve yourself, and you don't need to pre-order on the iPads for that - just scoop your choices into a paper box and pay by weight. I think my favorite thing to eat there was the Small Cheval burger. We went here several times and I even tried to go on our last day, but it didn't open until 11 AM and I had to be at the airport by then. Really a nice and unexpected opportunity for a quick lunch! read more

When you walk up, it does not even look like a food court!! Instead, it looks like an open and modern study/hang out area. There are many different options for food here - from burgers and fries to sushi and ramen. You order your food from a kiosk which was simple and straightforward to use. You get an automatic text when your food is ready which is nice. That said, I got a text saying my fries were ready, but they were not. Not sure if it was a glitch but it didn't happen to anyone else I was with. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries - from different stations of the food hall. The fries were decent, and the chicken sandwich was good! The garlic aioli on the sandwich was very delicious and I even got more for my fries. Overall, I love the options here, but I wouldn't say the particular food I had was special, but it was good. This review is strictly for their Study Hall lounge bar upstairs at the top floor. I stumbled upon this place once a few years back and honestly saw this as a hidden gem and still do to this day. I almost don't even wanna write a review, because I like it keep it a secret, but I think everyone should know about it. For one, if you're able to grab a chair or lounge seat close to the window, you'll have some nice views, and maybe even catch a glimpse of the lake in the corner area. All of the bartenders/staff here have always been really friendly and bubbly which I appreciate. They have had a happy hour from 4-5pm DAILY, however just recently the changed their menu and the drink options are less appealing. In July of 2023, they had really tasty cocktails for half off and they really did the job. I just came back a few days ago (September 2023) and the drink options were much more limited. I wasn't a fan, but I understand they might not make much money off of the drinks anymore with the rising living costs these days. Aster Hall is a quick, easy spot where everyone can get what they want to eat. Depending on what you get, it's cheaper than a lot of other places in the area. There's also a great lounge above the food court where you can sit and eat, and even get a cocktail if you're feeling in the mood. The ramen, while not the best ramen I have ever had, was good and I appreciated that they packed the broth separately from the goodies so if you did want to take it to the beach or back home it would travel quite nicely. The first four floors are mostly high-end shops but if you go up more you'll find a variety of different restaurants and food options. On the 6th floor there is a bar that gives the feel of a hotel bar and lounge. There's also a study area so it seems you can get some work done if you're so inclined to do so in a shopping mall. They have happy hour every day from 4pm-6pm all throughout Aster Hall on both floors and the options looked pretty good and affordable. If you're looking for more fun on the 7th floor there is Top Golf too. Along with that there were certain sections of the 6th floor lounge that had great views of the Chicago skyline and water if you can find them and are fortunate to snag them. This place was very nice and cool for those hot summer days and was overall a very chill place to hang out for a bit. Aster Hall is such a hidden gem! A friend and I came here to work remotely at Aster Hall's Bar & Study. We ended up grabbing lunch at the food hall, which was delicious and super affordable. You order at the kiosk and pick up your food at the individual windows, so it was super easy to mix and match. I highly recommend the brussel sprouts and mac and cheese. After we picked up our food, we went upstairs to Bar & Study on the 6th floor to get some work done. We scored a booth that had plenty of outlets and the ambience was great. Lots of people were working and studying around us, so it was a motivating atmosphere. The staff were all wonderful and the entire place was chic and spotless. Even the bathrooms were beautiful. Second time dining here, a little tucked away on the top floor. You order from any of the kiosks so you can order a burger from one place and waffle fries from another. Pick up your food at the respective window and dine in the central area. Not enough seating being busy December but we managed to find a shared table.
