In an effort to eat some vegetables on our trip, I picked sweetgreen for lunch on Sunday. The Autumn Harvest bowl fit the bill with plenty of chopped kale, roasted sweet potatoes, and crisp apple. The roasted chicken, crunchy wild rice and almonds, plus the balsamic vinaigrette made for a tasty lunch. However, the bowl is quite generous and probably could have been split into two meals. Hubby is not a kale fan so he chose Romaine lettuce instead, left out the sweet potatoes and ordered Caesar dressing. The rosemary focaccia that we split was fluffy and flavorful, but again the portion was generous and I had some leftover. This location just opened near my office, so my coworker and I decided to stop by for lunch. I've been to some of the other sweetgreens around Chicago, and continue to sample the menu to find something I like that's worth the price tag. If you're not familiar - this is a casual chain that offers healthy salads and bowls with organic, locally sourced ingredients. This time, I opted for the chicken + brussels bowl ($13.50). Even though it was a great portion size, I still felt like it was expensive for a casual lunch. I also wasn't really feelin the flavors - particularly the dressing. To date, the best thing I've ordered at sweetgreen has been the harvest bowl. But this location had quick and friendly service, with a dedicated takeout section because there's limited seating. If you do dine in, just note the entrance currently has automated doors, so in the winter there is a very cold draft that comes through. Easy fix though if they can get a winter door set up. Overall, this is a good spot for those looking for a quick and casual meal that don't mind paying a bit more for "feel good" food. read more

Oh boy. I was so let down by this experience. I looked online for something close & healthy while I was staying at the Hyatt Regency. The photos of the buffalo chicken salad looked amazing so I decided that was the lunch for me. The first thing I noticed about my salad was how little chicken was included. Then I poured on the dressing and noticed it had a watery consistency. After I tossed the salad I noticed that the dressing tasted incredibly watered down, an experience I haven't had with a salad in my 35 years. There's a first time for everything I suppose. Overall I was very underwhelmed by this salad and frustrated that I had spent so much money at a salad that tasted like something I bought from a gas station. Marketed as a vegetarian restaurant..it was a little bit strange that most of the options contained meat (easily removable but not listed as such on the menu). I ordered the curry chicken bowl (sub tofu for chicken) and got the medium amount of dressing. It was very filling and definitely unique. Not what i had expected to order, but it felt nice ordering something that had a large portion but was very good for me. The juices were good but needed some sugar. I've recently listened to a podcast from the founder of sweetgreen and thought their mission to source directly from farmer's to be a noble task and something I should check out. sweetgreen is popping up all over Chicago, so I figure while I'm trying to eat healthier, this might be a good option to checkout. This location right by Millennium Park is a beautiful airy space to dine. Not too many seats judging by the setup, but definitely not busy when I stopped in. I ordered a Harvest bowl and had to modify 2 ingredients which they easily substituted with any items in their section of the salad tray. Choices of low, medium or heavy dressing was offered and it was mixed and stored in a plastic bowl. While a salad +$10, I felt they gave you a nice portion and the vegetables were fresh and delicious. There's also self serve drinks available to drink to your heart's content. read more

My friend just introduced me to sweet green on a Friday afternoon for lunch around 12:15PM. We had some work to finish so we arrived a bit later than when he usually comes. Apparently if you go around 11:30, the line isn't too bad. The line when we got there wrapped all the way around the cash register and to the doors, resulting in a good 20-30 minute wait to order. Sweetgreen is like a Chipotle-style salad place, however they do have some pre-put together options. I decided to try the Harvest Bowl. I'm not a huge fan of goat cheese so I decided to sub it out for avocado. They ask you if you want light, medium, or heavy dressing - I decided to try medium. It has been A LONG time since I've enjoyed a salad, but Sweetgreen has won the prize. Bye Freshii! See you never. Sweet green is fresh and delicious. I've never had kale taste so good! The apples were crunchy and sweet, the sweet potato was well seasoned and tasty, and the portion size was very reasonable. They give you a piece of bread as well, which tastes fresh and has that crispy crust on the outside and soft yummy inside. Don't forget to download the app for rewards! I did after today since I know I'll be back. Price wise you're looking at ~$10 for the salad or more (if you add on extras). Considering the amount of food I got, I'm okay with that. The salad was surprisingly filling! I usually get hungry towards the end of the day, but the salad held me down until past 6:30PM - a first for me. Stop by and give it a try!
