I've been here twice and I'm really impressed by the quality of ingredients. I've had the bowls (both types of noodles are good) with the pork, which is a generous quantity of shredded, juicy goodness. The stars of the meal are the veggies- fresh, crisp, some pickled- that you pile on. The bowls are satisfying and the price is fair for the quality. I love the jasmine iced tea as well. Very authentic tasting Northern chinese cuisine-- you can trust me on that. Big portions and unique product following the Chipotle assembly line. This isn't your typical psuedo American-Chinese food establishment. They also bring a lot to the local community-- they host Late Night food with specialty food only served during weekend late nights. One of my criticisms is that their late night noodle dish is just packaged ramen. I hope they can expand their menu even more. read more

Man, do I wish that Junzi was around when I was an undergrad at Yale. I would've eaten here all the time. I love the trend of chipotle style assembly line restaurants, and Junzi is the first restaurant I've visited that does it with noodle bowls. Although its a simple menu, the assembly line style allows for a variety of different options of delicious creations to eat. It is perfect! The vegetarian tofu/mushroom noodle bowl I had was incredibly delicious and a decent size portion for the price. Cheap, good food is my favorite type of food, and Junzi did not disappoint. Overall, eating at Junzi was a fantastic experience, and I will definitely be stopping by next time I am visiting Yale. read more

Any place that uses sesame paste as the main ingredient of sauces understands the essence of authentic northern China food. I truly love this place. Braised beef and pork leg meat are top quality, easily beat any other Chinese restaurant in the US for sure. Knife noodles remind me of hometown cooking. I was so curious about this place when I saw construction starting a few years ago - they had some sweet art pieces outside. No idea what to expect, and then, lo! One day, there stood an amazing, funky little bing place pushing out the most delicious little wraps and noodle bowls. The sliced potatoes, tofu, pork, black chive, superb sauces, etc. -- wrap all of these ingredients together and you get some awesome umami-filled food for an awesome price. Such a good deal. The foundation is good and delicious food, which they've nailed. BUT, beyond their restaurant, they also are very invested in the New Haven food scene and work to collaborate with many other local businesses. You'll see them host a little pop-up booth in the Broadway median and bring in new chefs to make these "night lunches." We definitely need more of this in New Haven! What a really cool idea and place. It's a noodle soup place, and an Asian burrito type thing. I love it. Get a type of meat (or non meat) and then add some veggies and sauce and put it in a wrap. Junzi has become a problem for me... because I can't stop eating there. Its seriously one of my favorite places to eat in all of New Haven... Connecticut really. The fresh ingredients and friendly staff make the experience even better. I love both the chung bing and the noodle bowls and enjoy the seasonal veggies that they rotate through. New restaurant in New Haven but definitely worth going to. Their food is great, but the one thing on the menu that you absolutely must try is their tea. It's the most expensive one ($3.50 I believe) but it is so so so so SO worth it. It is literally the best tea I have ever had. read more

It feels healthier than a lot of other fast food choices out there (but doesn't have to be). Their night lunches are hit or miss (it's good that they try different things) and usually crowded, but the regular fare is pretty good and definitely feels novel. Word to the wise though, unlike a burrito, you actually have to think about what you want to add to your dish. A lot of flavors don't really go together, which to me is a sign of a good menu, but it does require some diligence on the part of the customer. read more

I'm new to the town and went in to get some noodles. There were five of us. We all wanted noodles. There were two girls working at the time. No welcome whatsoever and the moment I ordered, the girl said what is #2? I had to read out the ingredients even though the pictures were posted on wall with #'s. After ordering two different orders of noodle, I was ordering the third one for me and the lady rudely asked me "do you want rice"? I told her I wanted noodles and she said I don't have noodles. Now we only have two orders of noodle for 5 of us. I could have ordered something else but the lady was extremely rude. My fried on the other side was checking out a juice and she yelled out are you getting that? My friend told her that it's expiring. The lady said you have to buy it because you already touch it! While paying for the two noodles and the juice, she said you are done, BYE out so loud and rudely! At this point, we just took the two noodles and the juice and left the store. It's like we had no choice but to buy it. The customer service is 0. They need to do better job. read more

A unique "customize-it" answer to Asian noodles. Chipotle style, you order what base sauce, noodle type, toppings, etc. you add and come together with a wonderfully "you" dish to enjoy. As always, I was overwhelmed by the freedom of choice and just picked an amalgamation of ingredients that individually sounded delicious, without much thought to whether it'd taste good together. Went to Junzi today and got a spring noodle bowl with tofu and mushrooms, and sesame sauce. The sesame sauce is amazing, the veggie topping options are tasty as well: kale, cucumber, cabbage, bamboo I only wish Junzi had a few more spicy options. I am not generally a big fan of spice, but I could have gone for a little spicy sauce on top of the noodle bowl. I did get a side of sweet chili tofu, which had a kick of spice and was delicious. read more

Walking down the street, I stumbled on this shop. It's located behind a bus stop (?) so keep your eyes open. It was not crowded at 2:30, and the staff was really helpful. My friend and I came here because it's Chinese and nearby. Unfortunately it was disappointing. We ordered the noodle bowl with knife noodle and sesame sauce and hoped for something similar to Xi'an famous food. The idea was great but the food was mediocre - the noodles are too dry, the add-ons are not flavored enough, and most importantly, the ingredients just don't really go with each other. My go-to for a quick meal in New Haven. Fresh ingredients, Chipotle-style Asian food at a relatively affordable price. Chun-bings are delicious as are their noodle bowls. I tend to get the sesame sauce for the knife noodles although Jaja vegetable seems to be quite popular as well. All protein options are good although I tend to get chicken or pork. For the chun-bings I recommend a tiny bit of chili oil if you like spice in addition to sesame sauce. Staff is always friendly. Seating is limited so not the best to dine-in at especially with large groups; I usually order to go. Overall a great addition to the New Haven food options! read more
