I called in my order and waited about 20 minutes before I walked to pick it up.?This was a Friday and lunch hour so it appears their restaurant gets quite busy. After arriving I had to wait an additional 20 minutes which for next time I'll just wait longer before picking up my order. So let me just be clear to make sure you have cash. This is the only form of payment they take or you will find yourself at an ATM. I ordered fried chicken wings and fried plantains. For my first visit here I can say yes it was well worth the wait. The best thing here is the proximity to YNHH. The fried rice is bland and tasteless, the fried chicken wings are the same. Beef Broccoli was gingery and acceptable. Red sauce with the sweet and sour chicken had low viscosity and even lesser qualities as a sauce. The most average of Chinese foods. They are Cash Only, I mean it, they mean it. I got there at 8:10pm, stood in line for 10min only to discover that it was cash only - written behind the cashier but not at the door where you can see it coming in, surprise! Went to get cash, came back and waited another 10min by the cashier, despite the line being gone by then, because they prioritize orders over the phone instead of customers who walk in. Finally; I made my order 20min after walking in. Had to wait another 40min for a total wait of 1 hour. And then I finally received my 2 low mein orders, 1 chicken and 1 beef, for a total of $26. They were very underwhelming, I barely finished a third of my dish. Overall: Waste of time, money, and calories. read more

I would like to say that I drove all the way from Middlesex County to quench my thirst for Imperial Wok.. Say a lot huh? The food is CONSISTENTLY flavorful, delicious and worth the money. We ordered shrimp fried rice, hubby's fav, sauteed broccoli and carrots and chicken lo mein. After the utter silence through dinner hee, hee, I say thank you Imperial Wok for never dissappointing. I have to say I am there almost weekly to get food it's so delicious! I typically order the garlic chicken and broccoli with white rice. The chicken is tender and juicy, the broccoli is never mushy just perfect texture, and the rice is like a pillow of love. Would highly recommend! Since moving to Connecticut 7 years ago, it's been a STRUGGLE to find good Chinese food. Imperial Wok by far has the best Chinese food I've been able to find in this state. Honestly I was so shocked with the service I received today. I always visited this local restaurant majority of my teen years. I decided to stop by because I was visiting a friend at the hospital. The customer service was inconsistent varying each person & I was overcharged without realizing it. After bringing this up to the cashier, she flung my change and proceeded to finish preparing an order. OK, this place is a best kept secret that you will be very happy you found out about. They do delivery in the downtown area and take out. Very limited bar-style dining in against the windows. My guess is 99.9% of the people that read this will not want to dine in. The neighborhood is not a feel-good suburban They are great for lunch for those near Yale New Haven Hospital. CASH ONLY. They are friendly and the food is the best Chinese takeout in the area. I replaced my first area takeout with a second that was better, but this one beats them all. Their General's Chicken is phenomenal. Forget that fake red sauce everyone else submerges the soggy chicken in. This is a crispy fried chicken in a general's sauce (whatever that is), just like it should be. It is not red sauce like you see elsewhere. And it is delicious. If you go in to pick up your take out you can usually find parking right on Sylvan Ave. Just put your flashers on, or don't chance and use a parking meter. You'll be in and out with your food. The cash only makes this less convenient that those places taking cards, but otherwise, the food is great! read more

I can't believe this place has hardly any reviews. It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside and you need a body guard if you go there once it's dark. But as far as fast food Chinese goes - this place is really so delicious. All their plates are full of flavor and done right - also you don't feel like you had TOO much gross oil in you after most fast food Chinese experiences. They have an appetizer of spicy pan fried dumplings and it's one of my favorite things to eat on the planet. The sauce is so good and the crispyness of the dumplings and evened the pork filling - epic. Pork fried rice and lo-mein is also excellent. You might become a patient in the hospital next door if you eat this more than once every few weeks, but might even be worth the trouble. read more

My client ordered chicken wings and he said they were the best wings he ever ate from a Chinese restaurant and he also got chicken noodle soup which he said was delicious as well he use to order from a place on grand avenue and from another restaurant on exit 8 but could never eat the rice because he said it was always hard but I let him try my rice (I bought) and he said this is the softest fried rice I EVER ate from a Chinese restaurant.Thanks for putting a smile on my clients face. read more

omg!!I have gone to so many Chinese Restaurants but this is by far the best. I It caters mostly to you Yale Hospital employees. I used to work in the area and I'll never forget how wonderful this place is. It is just a take out joint...no sit down...no non sense..they know the names of all their regulars. The only downside is that I always have to wait a long time when I order....but that is because they are contantly swapped with order in person and over the phone...their phone never stops ringing....You see everything they do and they keep the place spotless!!!
