The tofu was in good shape. Weirdly sour baby corn, though. The eggplant was not entirely soft, but I knew what I was getting into. The plentiful sauce is great to spread to more food. I had leftovers mixed with fresh tofu. When you microwave leftover eggplant in sauce it gets a bit softer ;) And to be fair, different dishes had different sauces, which beats some other low-price takeout places. This has been my go to Chinese take out spot since I was little. Always has consistent quality and super fast service. I grew up right around the corner so we came here very often and still do! Our go to orders are the crab Rangoon, egg rolls, shrimp fried rice with extra shrimp and some duck sauce and...of course some fortune cookies. They have some seating inside if you'd like to eat there but I'd definitely say this is more of an east rock takeout staple. Super lovely family and good portion sizes! Can't go wrong! read more

To be completely honest, I came here with incredibly low expectations, just looking for quick and flavorful Chinese food to satiate my cravings. I live near the area, and often walk past the bright yellow awnings of Blessings II Go, not really giving it a second thought. I ordered their chicken fried rice and their hot and sour soup with wonton noodles via Snackpass, and picked up my order in-store. I knew it was going to be delicious just from smelling the fragrant fried rice in the bag - the aroma instantly took me back to China, not inauthentic Americanized Chinese food (okay, maybe a little). The pint-size of fried rice is way more than one person could reasonably eat in one sitting, and is packed to the brim. There is something deeply addicting about their rice! The yellow color threw me off at first, but it was just as tasty, or even tastier than normal jasmine rice. With the chicken fried rice comes chicken (obviously), onions, and scallions. It is on the oilier side, but that's just a tradeoff that comes with eating delicious, cheat-meal food. Their hot and sour soup is zesty and spicy, and comes with a packet of wonton crispy noodles that add to the diversity of textures in the soup! I love how the soup is not too gooey or starchy, like some Chinese hot and sour soups tend to taste. In the soup are the standard tofu, bamboo shoots, goodies, etc that you'll usually find in hot and sour soup. Obviously you should not come in here expecting Phillippe Chow NYC quality and atmosphere - but for the price, convenience, and deliciousness, I think I just found an East Rock gem! As others have said, this place is MY GO TO when it comes to those quick and dirty nighttime Chinese food cravings. Without fail, I get the Genera Tso's combo, which comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll for $10.50, not a steal per say but a decent value nonetheless. At first I was going to give a poor rating for their shrimp fried rice, but as I was typing this I added some soy sauce to it and it is pretty good. They used yellow rice which I wasn't too crazy about (I prefer white rice) The fried dumplings were meh. Nothing to get excited about. They seemed more like steamed dumplings. Chinese-American comfort food, so the goal is to settle on a short list of menu items that you love, then order those whenever you're feeling stressed and you don't want pizza. My personal obsession is the shrimp egg foo yung, because B2G does the flat kind of egg foo yung that's almost frittata, fills it generously with shrimp, and accompanies it with the gloppy yellow sauce. If you prefer your egg foo with shrimp outside the foo and semi-transparent brown sauce, this will not send you into the paroxysms of egg foo ecstasy that it sends me. Conversely, one of the other reviewers loves their Singapore chow mai fun, and I found it so boring that I didn't finish my order. My view is that the disappointments are worth it because the items I like, I like with a mad passion of "nobody does it better." If I place an online order, it's usually ready for pick-up in about 15 minutes, which is awesome. The fried chicken was surprisingly good (4/5), the general tso's chicken was par for the course (4/5), the fried rice didn't have as many veggies and was more yellow than I expected (3/5), the shrimp rolls and fried spring rolls were fine (3/5), but I also ordered shrimp chow mein and was given some kind of shrimp and veggies in a broth (no noodles). Outside of that blunder on my order, I was pleased overall. It won't blow your mind, but it won't disappoint either. Lets break this down: The wonton soup was terrible. The broth was disappointing and flavourless - It tasted like warmed canned chicken broth. The dumplings were described by another reviewer as slightly thicker than usual - No, these were WAY thicker than standard. Do yourself a favour, just bypass this soup. The chicken with Chinese vegetables were 'Meh' - unfortunately, there isn't much more to say about it. While I liked the vegetables they used, the sauce didn't have much flavour. Three small details kept my Blessings II Go rating at 2.5: 1) The rice was good, 2) The price is wallet-friendly (although similar to other similar local restaurants), 3) Open late. Recommendations: -Resist getting the wonton soup -Start small: For your first order try the small size of your favourite item and then decide if you would return. Blessings 2 Go is one of those that the food is worth the price, considering that it's cost is below average. They have recommended general Taos chicken for my first visit and I had rice noodles on my second visit. Both of them are above average in terms of flavor and efficiency. And they are friendly and quick at their delivery, which makes it a huge plus for me when I am seeking for quick Asian food to cure my demanding stomach. To be very honest this was "decent" it's passable for someone who isn't from new haven and is going to the first Chinese place they see, anyways point is one thing about CT we have bomb ass pizza and amazing Chinese food and this wasn't it. The crab "meat" stick tasted like frozen fish sticks that have been sitting in the back of the freezer ar your grandmothers house for a couple of years they give you the red sauce to mask the freezer burn flavor not pleasurable, 2/10.... The pineapple chicken had great flavor BUT the chicken was not well done like I asked looks like they were either frozen pre-made or it didn't cook long enough in the deep fryer or pan however they prepared these, I'll give this a 7/10 because the vegetables were really yummy and the sauce was super sweet and Sticky. As for the egg roll I threw it out before I could even take a picture it was complete ass and was very oily &soggy we are not gunna even speak on that do better on that account -0/10. They have their own delivery service and are super fast. The only place in CT that cooks Egg Foo Young to perfection. The Won Ton soup= immaculate. If you're dining with naysayers of the Americanized Chinese food, theres plenty of dishes like the Fried Mini Shrimp Special & the Curry Chicken that are sure to reel them in. We went down here for takeout tonight for the first time. I think I'll do a two part review. First of all, the little Asian fish/food market attached to the restaurant is fantastic for tough to find Asian foods. They have excellent, fresh rice noodles, wonton sheets, spices, and that impossible to find, spicy brown dumpling dipping sauce. The fresh fish selection is also excellent, and they will gladly fillet the whole fish for you. On to the takeout. The crab rangoons were so/so. The wonton-egg drop soup was delicious, full of wontons and a little thicker than I'm used to. The egg rolls were best I've had in a long time. The General Tso's and Garlic Chicken were both above average for takeout Chinese. The four stars are not for an amazing, authentic Chinese restaurant, but for stellar Americanized Chinese food. Blessings is a generic, run of the mill Chinese food place. The selection on the menu is a carbon copy of every other Chinese food place you've ever encountered. I'm sure that there is only one actual menu and every place just changes the name that's printed on it. So, the plus is, you know what to expect, the minus is that there's nothing special about the place. The quality of the food is so-so. Pretty much any combo platter is going to be greasy. When you're done, there will be a small puddle on the bottom of the container making you question the decisions you've made in life that led to this point. Does it taste good? Sure, but for me, I feel like I've eaten a brick a short time later. Delivery. They deliver, and they're usually pretty quick about it, so that's a plus. I mean, if you consider getting mediocre food faster a plus. Cost. Yeah, they're cheaper than most other places. They better be. It would be a crime against food if they charged more. Conclusion. Just your average greasy Chinese take-out joint. I thought they might be a notch above because they claim to have brown rice, but that's misleading (read on). I got a variety mixed vegetable ($4.35 for a small) and a large Kung Pao tofu ($6.55 for a large). I also asked for brown rice. First, the brown rice is not brown rice. It's actually white rice colored yellow (with turmeric? egg yolk? not sure), but it's definitely not any type of brown rice. So that sucked. And if the rice is made with egg yolk, then it's not vegan either. The variety mixed vegetable was greasy and gooey with a think brown sauce loaded with cornstarch. The dish had little flavor and the portion size was really small. The Kung Pao tofu, on the other hand, was a huge portion and wasn't that bad. It wasn't great, either. I liked that they fried the tofu and put the peanuts on the side. They could have used a lot less celery and a lot more dice water chestnuts and bell peppers. All in all, Blessings II Go isn't worth a visit. I would recommend Hunan Cafe in downtown New Haven if you're looking for cheap, but high-grade, Chinese food. read more
