I found this place by going on the New Haven subreddit page and searching the words "chinese food.' Reddit is a place where people go to either be gross n weird or to be upset about the conservatives in their city. If you are looking for the inverse, facebook is it. This is the greatest Chinese take out restaurant available in CT. I won't say in ALL of CT history because do you guys remember House of Chao (RIP). But the past is the past and SING Hee is the present. Sing Hee is delicious and reliable and the people working there seem INTENSE and work hard. You can see straight back into the kitchen they are working like no other. Young kids at the front counter askin me if Kirby want sauce, i'm like all I needs is hot MUSTARD packets. Bro gives me a grin like we're in Ocean's 11 and loads me up w like 15 mustards, ya boi stocked for LIFE. I get extra egg rolls because egg roll for breakfast microwave for like 30 seconds and DOUSED in hot mustard is the breakfast you wish you could have everyday but you can't because u have a heart attack or something. Most important is the Lo Mein is perfect, not too saucy, not too dry, not too oily. It's like the Lord himself made this Lo Mein. anything w broccoli is also delicious. Kirby LOaf needs broccoli like Trump needs a wellness check read more

Best sweet & sour chicken. Love their egg rolls and fried rice. My son loves their vegetables.

Found them on yelp wanted a quick dinner while visiting mom. Once we finally found it (Tucked behind other buildings and we are from out of town) it was great! I had orange beef which was good. My mom just had spring rolls and my husband egg rolls. Everyone reported good food. Place was extremely busy (it might be takeout only? Not sure I didn't go in) but great for a quick meal. read more

This place is amazing. Nice little place for takeout. General sales was great white rice out of this world egg roll is amazing. Person at the front was nice. I could see the kitchen when I walk in. They are working hard Will come back again. read more

This is a great stop for good quality, tasty Chinese American food. They offer typical Chinese American dishes but with an elevated attention to quality, detail and flavor. They are difficult to find but don't give up; you'll be quite pleased with this little off the grid hidden restaurant gem. read more

Great Chinese takeout worth a trip from Branford! Food is always great, and they always get the order correct.

for years this was my absolute go to place and would drive from two towns away for the best chinese takeout around HOWEVER, last night's order; something was off, i think they changed food distribution or something because the look and taste was different and just like every other corner place. SAD, the end of an era. RIP read more

Really delicious Chinese food, great selection, fast takeout. Lunch specials are generously portioned. Everything I've ordered has been solidly good. read more

So this is a bit of a cry for help--we love this place and I'm ashamed we haven't reviewed it prior. Pros: Open kitchen Hot, fresh, efficient Friendly staff Cooked to order Cons: Has significantly declined in the past 6 mos No pork in "pork fried rice" Questionable chicken parts Bottom line, this was the best Chinese take out in New Haven county but they really need to step up their game to keep that crown. Lots of corners have been cut in the recent months. read more

I really like this place. This stems from them actually following any requests you make. I like my General Tso's chicken super spicy hot. So when I ask this place to make it this way, they actually do it- unlike most other places The fried rice is a bit plainer in spice than other places I eat, but it's passable. My ONLY complaint is it's wicked hard to find! Their building seems to be hiding behind others and their signage doesn't help to point to it. You just can't see it from the main road. Maybe that helps to keep it a hidden treasure tho. read more

This place is in walking distance to me. It was pretty good. I really like the pork fried rice.

Our regular Chinese restaurant has been falling short as of late, so we decided to give Sing Hee another try. The last time we ordered was during the height of the pandemic and it was crazy busy and the family was split over whether we liked it or not. I was really hoping to het a good egg roll so we gave it another try and it did not disappoint! I also thoroughly enjoyed my shrimp in garlic sauce. Ingredients were very fresh and the shrimp was a good size. It was so nice to actually get a fried rice that has egg and veggies in it. The house special fried rice with a mix of proteins was very good. It would have been a home run if my husband enjoyed his spare ribs, but neither of us cared for the flavor of them. Looking forward to our next visit to Sing Hee. read more

Wow. I've never been to such a clean Chinese restaurant and felt super reassured by the A+ rating in the window. This place is a little hard to find, it's behind the abandoned pharmacy. Just a pro tip! We opted for takeout. I had Hunan Chicken because I'm a spicy gal and my fiance had his usual sweet and sour chicken. The order took no time to be ready and the food was delicious and you can tell a lot of love went into the ingredients and overall quality of the dishes. Happy a solid Chinese spot in the area especially after our loved place in Branford closed. read more

Sing Hee Restaurant - Hunan Chicken - Chinese Near Me - North Haven, Connecticut

So look, there are Chinese restaurants in this country and there are American Chinese restaurants. The cuisines are not the same. Really, what most Americans think of as "Chinese food" is American Chinese food and let's just agree that Chinese American food is DELICIOUS. Sing Hee Restaurant in North Haven, CT is solidly Chinese American. They are also a strictly take out spot and they crank out the food here. The menu is EXTENSIVE. Anything you're thinking you might want in the American Chinese cuisine they probably have at Sing Hee. Plenty of options for the meat eaters and the non eaters. All the choices are here. For Vegan you would have to ask since you know, sauces are the backbone of American Chinese food. You need delicious sauces and fresh ingredients. Sing Hee has both those things. On the menu there the choice of pint or quart sized portions. Being me I thought a pint was just way to small a portion and I ordered quarts of everything for me and my parents. DON'T LISTEN TO ME. I mean unless you want to have plenty of leftovers. Because we did have plenty of leftovers, which I did eat, cold, directly out of the fridge the next day and I'm here to say that Sing Hee's food was just as delicious the next day and cold. Here's what I did: I was driving down from Vermont to my parents in Branford. I pulled off 91 to look at Sing Hee's menu and call in my order: Shrimp Egg Rolls, Pork Egg Rolls, Shrimp Fried Rice, Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables, Vegetable Lo Mein. Pro Tip: when you order over $35 worth of food you get to add an item (there's a list to choose from). I added a pint of Pork Fried Rice for Dad, since I don't eat pork, but he is a SUPER FAN of Pork Fried Rice. Let's review: 3 people and I ordered quarts of Vegetable Lo Mein, Shrimp Fried Rice, Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables, plus 2 shrimp egg rolls, 2 pork egg rolls and the pint of Pork Fried Rice. A stupid quantity of food. For a seriously, reasonable price. Honestly, I hadn't had a shrimp egg roll in years. Legit years. Because I live in Vermont and, somehow, for some bizarre reason, Vermont is an American Chinese Food desert. Well....we do have it, but it's mainly not good. I have to drive an hour for good American Chinese and I have! The Shrimp Egg Rolls from Sing Hee were basically, screaming hot when I picked them up and I ate them both on the drive to my parents' house. They were everything a Shrimp Egg Roll should be: crispy on the outside, hot and flavorful with fully cooked, shredded filling. Would consider picking up some Shrimp Egg Rolls every time I'm driving past on 91... When I got to Sing Hee (I was using Google Maps and I had looked at pics online) I 100% would have driven right past the entrance if I didn't see the little signs for Sing Hee in the ground beside the entrance. Tricky thing is Sing Hee is located behind a deserted/empty/abandoned CVS or Walgreens or something like that. I got it in my head that Sing Hee was INSIDE that shell of a Walgreens and that maybe I was supposed to pull up to the former Pharmacy drive up to get my food...??? HAHAHAHAHAHA Which, frankly, would be an AMAZING approach to Chinese take out! No, Sing Hee is not inside an abandoned CVS. It's behind the abandoned CVS. No drive thru. You park and go in. Once you're in there you can see the entire kitchen, everything, nothing is hidden. Let's all get on the same page about the fact that this is a level of transparency that is not "usual" in the restaurant business. Come on, you know that the vast majority of restaurants hide their kitchens out back behind multiple doors. And you just have to rely on faith when you eat there. Not at Sing Hee, they are preparing everyone's food right where everyone can see it. I love that. The place runs like a well oiled machine. They know what they're doing. It is SMOOTH. I had to wait a few minutes for my order to be ready. Then I put it in my trunk, drove to Branford, carried my stuff in, carried the food in, arranged it on the counter and that food was still so hot we needed to let it cool a few minutes before we could eat it. Everything was really good. Shrimp with Chinese Vegetables had a crazy number of shrimp. Lo Mein was particularly delicious. The next day I mixed the Lo Mein right in the Shrimp and Vegetable sauce. Cold. Delicious. Will be back. read more

Great take out Chinese. We were looking for a new place in our area. Love it. Make sure to call early. They can get very busy especially on the weekends. Food is good! read more

Got my first order and cannot say I'm pleased. The egg rolls were bland and the wonton soup had a dark liquid and no pork or scallions. The beef with broccoli had a peculiar tasting, very liquid sauce. I guess the best way I describe it is to say that it was all just OK. I unfortunately will not be going back. On a side note, I've been living in CT for almost three years now and I have tried at least 15 chinese food restaurants and I haven't found a single one as good as the three or four I often frequented when living in Bergen County NJ. I'll keep searching! read more

I have been a customer for many years as well as my family . I love the food there are plentiful and a great food service business. Fantastic value at this place. I think the amount of food I get for $10 is enough for two meals, depending on what you order

Hello, I would like to say that sing hee restaurant is a great place to get Chinese food to take home I have been coming to this place for over 30 years and never had a bad meal. Sing Hee Chinese Kitchen is a gourmet Chinese restaurant that opened in North Haven, Connecticut in 1990. The restaurant makes several classic Americanized-Chinese dishes and they prepare everything with fresh ingredients. They also never add MSG to any of their dishes. Over the years, Sing Hee has developed a reputation for cleanliness, fresh ingredients, comfort food and excellent customer service. My wife and I visited Sing Hee for the first time this past Christmas Eve. Our original Christmas Eve plans fell through this year due to COVID concerns. My wife and I are Italian, but we also happen to be Jewish. We decided to make the best of the situation and have a Jewish-American Christmas. We swapped out the Feast of the Seven Fishes for Shrimp Lo Mein and Egg Rolls. We normally go to a different Chinese restaurant that is just a few blocks away from us, but we keep hearing great things about Sing Hee. We decided to give them a try. We looked up the menu online and were very impressed with how extensive it was. When I arrived at the restaurant to pick up the food, the order was already waiting for me. The place smelled great and looked very clean. There are a few tables inside but their business seems to mainly be take-out orders. To start out, we had some delicious Wonton Egg Drop Soup. It was very flavorful and the wontons had perfect texture. For appetizers, we shared Steamed Dumplings, a Roasted Pork Egg Roll, a Shrimp Egg Roll, and a Spring Roll. The dumplings were some of the best we ever had and the egg rolls were perfectly crispy and crunchy. For our main dishes, we shared some White Rice, Brown Rice, Roast Pork Fried Rice, Shrimp Lo Mein, Orange Chicken, Beef with Snow Peas, and Buddhist's Delight (Mixed Vegetables). We had quite a delicious feast! Everything was excellent! We were so full by the end of dinner and still had plenty of food for leftovers. We must also say that Sing Hee's prices were very reasonable. My wife and I both agree that we found our new go-to Chinese restaurant! read more

Very good but not consistent. I get the same dish every time and it is a bit different each. Service is good. Never had a wrong order

This place got my order wrong and gave me two orange chickens. I also ordered the lo mein with extra veggies (at an extra cost) and it barely had any veggies. Overall they hardly serve you any veggies as they prefer to serve a generic version of fried and greasy Americanized Chinese cuisine. read more

Visited Sing Hee after they re-opened during the Covid19 pandemic. I was so happy to have Chinese food again! We ordered a chicken & broccoli combo that comes with rice & an egg roll, a general tso combo, shrimp lo mein, and crab rangoons, everything was hot & tasty. You call in your order and go in one at a time to pay during this time of social distancing. The phone can be busy with many calls since they are one of the few Chinese restaurants around that are open. read more

Delicious! Egg foo young, fried rice, egg rolls best nearby. Prices are reasonable, always clean inside

Great food reasonably priced quick turnaround. Lunch specials are an even better value.

I have lived close to this place for years and never knew it was there. One day at work, my boss, who knows the area asked me if I've ever been to Sing Hee. "What?" "Sing Hee." "Where?" "Behind Rite-Aid." "Where behind Rite-Aid?" Thanks to Google, I finally figured it out. As I pulled in, like some hidden oasis that was there all along if you only know where to look, I found Sing Hee. I walked in, not knowing what to expect because I hadn't called or ordered ahead, but they let me place my order. I ordered General Tso's tofu, my litmus test dish when eating at Chinese restaurants. The wait was less than 15 minutes, during which I noticed that not only do they have hand sanitizer available for customers, plastic sheeting between the kitchen and the front, but also they were all wearing masks and had a sign up for customers. In times like these, Sing Hee is doing everything right. The other thing I noticed is that this place is immaculately clean. Not only clean, but the place looks practically brand new. I've been in Chinese restaurants from Boston to San Francisco, to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and I'm sure I've never seen a nicer, cleaner restaurant. The General Tso's tofu was excellent. They definitely know how to cook tofu right, they magically turn it into little sponges of crispy yumm. Some places don't, and I definitely can't. I need to learn the secret to cooking tofu crispy sponge style. Sing Hee does it right. Before I went here, I hadn't had takeout food from anywhere in nearly 4 months. I was craving General Tso's tofu something fierce. No matter what, this was going to be some of the best General Tso's tofu I've ever had. Which it was. I'll be back. And who knows...maybe I'll order curry tofu next time. read more

I moved to New Haven last year and I've been trying to find a good go-to Chinese place locally, and I think I might have finally found it! Boyfriend and I tried the crab rangoons (called cream cheese wontons), steamed wontons in garlic sauce, vegetable lo mein combo, and the general tao combo. Everything was very good, but I particularly enjoyed the wontons in garlic sauce. The only thing that I found a little bit strange was that they had such a more extensive menu listed online on their website as opposed to their print menu. So if you're planning on ordering from here, I definitely recommend you look online at their website as opposed to anything in print. Definitely looking forward to going back again! read more

It was very good. We usually order appetizers and fried rice. My husband loves the crab rangoons.

I put Chinese food on the back burner many years ago after I developed an affinity for Thai food and sushi. However, now that I've found a couple of decent, authentic Chinese places, I've added it back into my rotation of meals on occasion. Sing Hee is conveniently located to where I live and is the cleanest take out place I've seen. Its spotless and the open kitchen is well maintained as well. The food is really good, consistent on each visit, and always hot and fresh. I have a few regular items I order and everything is always ready in about 15-20 minutes after you call. Most of the staff speak English so I've never had an issue with my order getting messed up. Prices are reasonable but standard compared to any other Chinese take out place. read more
